Last weekend was not our usual weekend full of exercise ... my husband and I organised a hilly, long distance cycling event ... mainly him, but I helped with some of the paperwork, sorting out what food needed to be at which rest stops, shopping for things like 80 bananas, five 15-litre jugs of water, more real Coke than I've had in my house in years, etc. etc..
The event was on Sunday, and my part was to hold down the fort at the finish line. So there I sat for 6 or 7 hours with a massive tray of Subway cookies (and other food) beside me.
Before I had to be at my post, I was able to get in 75 minutes on my trainer, and while there, I managed to walk a total of 3.8 km. My husband was there with me for the first little while and again at the end, so I took a few brisk walks + a whole lot of pacing!
We can breathe a sigh of relief that the event went well, and everyone was in good spirits when they crossed the finish line after 4,460 metres of climbing over the 210 km route.
Dec 9 - 16.5 km (52 min) cycling
Windy, windy day on the 9th (yesterday). That ride was a fight ... I don't have the upper body strength to hang on when 70 km/h gusts take out my front wheel. We were planning to ride further, but decided to call it a day at that point instead.

And a little bit of good news ... I'm down 26 kg/57 lbs. Making improvements on that power-to-weight ratio. It is certainly easy climbing the hills around here in southern Tasmania without that extra 57 lbs.
I'll be taking a little break on the weightloss over Christmas, but back at it again in January. Plus weightlifting, stair climbing, and lots of cycling to improve the power side of the ratio. I'd love to be able to go up hills like all the mountain goats around here who go flying past me like I'm standing still.

Almost done with my monthly goal, and 20 miles away from hitting 5,000 miles for the year.
I was debating between doing a century ride to polish off my monthly/annual target, or a 56 mile group ride with my tri-team this morning as they both met at the same coffee shop at 7AM this morning. Ended up joining the tri-team as I need to get in a long run tonight and figured I'd save my legs a bit as the 25+mph paceliners in the tri group didn't show up today.

Last weekend was not our usual weekend full of exercise ... my husband and I organised a hilly, long distance cycling event ... mainly him, but I helped with some of the paperwork, sorting out what food needed to be at which rest stops, shopping for things like 80 bananas, five 15-litre jugs of water, more real Coke than I've had in my house in years, etc. etc..
The event was on Sunday, and my part was to hold down the fort at the finish line. So there I sat for 6 or 7 hours with a massive tray of Subway cookies (and other food) beside me.
Before I had to be at my post, I was able to get in 75 minutes on my trainer, and while there, I managed to walk a total of 3.8 km. My husband was there with me for the first little while and again at the end, so I took a few brisk walks + a whole lot of pacing!
We can breathe a sigh of relief that the event went well, and everyone was in good spirits when they crossed the finish line after 4,460 metres of climbing over the 210 km route.

Windy, windy day on the 9th (yesterday). That ride was a fight ... I don't have the upper body strength to hang on when 70 km/h gusts take out my front wheel. We were planning to ride further, but decided to call it a day at that point instead.

And a little bit of good news ... I'm down 26 kg/57 lbs. Making improvements on that power-to-weight ratio. It is certainly easy climbing the hills around here in southern Tasmania without that extra 57 lbs.
I'll be taking a little break on the weightloss over Christmas, but back at it again in January. Plus weightlifting, stair climbing, and lots of cycling to improve the power side of the ratio. I'd love to be able to go up hills like all the mountain goats around here who go flying past me like I'm standing still.
