I did day 2 of week 8 of C25K. I got up extra early with 4 hours of sleep to try and get some running in, glad I was able to complete this day but clearly I won't be hitting near my goal with as busy as we are at the store already and it will get worse. I should at the very least get c25k completed and running a full 5k with no walking. I walked a min or so at the run'ucopia on Thanksgiving so this will be a great way to end the month and to be ready for the New Year and January's challenge.

    Progress toward Goal 34.9 / 50

@kareF : I ran some in college to get ready for military service, then ran as much as required while in the military until 1992 when, on a whim, a small group decided to do the TransMountain HM in El Paso, TX. Most of the area is flat, but this HM was over the mountain that splits the East and West portions of El Paso. We started on the West side and ran over to the East side. I surprised myself by passing most of the group on the way up and finishing ahead of them. Then I went back to running only as much as I had to. When I separated from the Army in 2001, I became a couch potato and gained about 50 pounds. I had no motivation or desire to run until a job change gave me an excuse in 2013. I started back with the Couch to 5k app, then moved up to the 5k to 10k app. I ran a Halloween themed 5k, then a Thanksgiving 5k and decided I needed a new goal and made plans to re-run the HM I had done in El Paso, 22 years later. Starting in 2014, I worked up to running the distance and attempted to prepare myself for the 1/2 up 1/2 down distance. I completed the HM in October 2014, with a combination of running and walking (the incline kicked my butt). After that I went through the post goal let-down, not running as much and gaining back most of the weight I had lost while training. I started running fairly regular again in July 2015, but with no race or distance goal, it was still hit or miss. I found the October challenge and have used the challenges as an accountability check.

Started (treadmill) running again around Thanksgiving! This summer I had a bout of tendinitis that had me down for a bit, but I'm ready to run for the rest of the long Alaska winter!

    @Stoshew71 Happy Birthday!
@kareF Started "running" 1month prior to my 60th birthday. Had been actively losing weight and increasing activity. Started taking walks with the new puppy I got that year, along with the 1 1/2 year old border collie we already had.....and suddenly they wanted to move faster than I ever had before. "Ran" (a relative term when speaking in the company of ohhims and stoshews and mobycarps....) my first mile on my 60th birthday.
@Ohhim Come to Kona and I'll buy the post race beer!

    Upcoming races:
3/20 Big Island International 1/2 marathon

Ticker is my goal for 2015 and accumulation to date:

@Stoshew71: 10K and some change? :P This is what I get for skimming quickly.. I am still dreaming of seeing a split in the 7 minutes..sure couldn’t do it repeatedly for hours. Hats off, sir!

hahaha I am just very fortunate that I can even run 26+ miles. Back when I started running in October 2013, they were talking about the RCM on TV. (RCM is a big deal around here.) It was even more huge that year because our local hero Josh Whitehead won it. I remember reading about it in the paper and watching the news about it on TV and thinking to myself, you would be crazy to think I could do that. Then a year later, I am doing it. And this year was my second try at it.

After I relooked at my data and saw all the sub 8 splits, I was kind of in disbelief. Everything on paper told me that i could achieve it, I just had to go out there and prove it to myself.

    Thanks everyone for the support.

And to those wishing me a Happy Birthday, I do appreciate all the well wishes as well. Thank you everybody.

So far behind on theses posts!

@Elise4270, so sorry to hear about your favorite dog!
@kareF, glad to see your back to running! To answer your question, I started running 7 months ago at the age of 48. Before that the only time I ever ran for the sake of running was in high school when we had to run in football practice. I started running basically on a dare when we planned on walking a 5K but I was goaded in to running it.
@Stoshew71 fantastic job on your race!! Very cool that Skip got to give you your well-deserved medal. Great photos.
@ACSL3 sorry to hear about your fall. You made the right decision.
@5BeautifulDays congrats on your 5k PR!
@juliet3455 the Jingle Jog sounds fun!

I still have more catching up to do, including @Stoshew71's race report.

I'm finally getting back to feeling like I was before my half. I put in 7 miles of trail running with Kody along the Minnesota River on Saturday, followed by 8.5 miles around the 'hood on Sunday. Planning another 8.5 tonight.

To all those on strava. The MFP Long Distance Runners group also has a strava group.
Sign up for either or both. Let me know if you encounter any delays getting into either.

Here's a question for you all : On the running subject - How old were you when you started running? Did you run as a kid and then stop for a few years? Or did you just start up one day and keep going? Maybe someone inspired you?

I started running at 43 years old after the summer of 2014. I wanted to lose weight and figured from here MFP forum that running is still the most time efficient way to burn calories. It was motivated to see how I could do more every week from C25K. But I lost motivation after the first race in Thanksgiving. But by now, my husband got motivated and started C25K. And that got me motivated again. I am not sure if I truly loves running like many others here but I surely got addicted to getting a new race time. And also, I would like to be that mom you described -- encouraging my kids to run. I don't want my kids grow up like I did - not exercising at all. Now, our family run together every weekend with some other families.

    2/12 2k
    3/12 1k
    5/12 7k
    6/12 7k
    7/12 2k
    14/12 2k
    15/12 5k

Never made it to gym in morning, left work 1.5 hours late thinking I was going to buy a bottle of wine. Went to gym and did 5k in decent time for me. Result!
@kareF great questions - everyone has such interesting and varied stories. Really enjoyed the answers.

Been stuck inside for the last 2 days with a wicked case of "the runs." Getting VERY antsy to get on the road. Also a little worried about getting my goal miles....

That's fantastic Stan! Numbers and all are great, but to be doing what seemed impossible is most impressive for sure! Happy birthday too! Hope it's a great day and a great year for ya!

2/1 - 1.6 miles - 3K fun run with my friend John, who just lost almost 100 lbs :sunglasses: Oh yeah I realize 1.6 isn't a 3K but that's what they called it even though my watch said 1.6

    12/3 - 5 miles
    12/4 - no mojo day
    12/5 - 7 miles

    12/7 - 5 miles
    12/8 - 12 - wrist surgery recovery
    12/13 - 4 miles
    12/14 - resting knee
