We need to make t-shirts, can you imagine you're walking along and you see MFP Running Challenge t-shirt running in front of you LOL
Congrats to those who have reached goal already!
I'm so jealous of everyone's great Christmas running bling - Skip did buy me a new water bottle since she broke my old one
@9voice9 I use my Garmin to track everything - steps, time, calories, pace and distance
@morningghost14 I'm with you, I HATE the rain and as you all saw from @stoshew71 pictures we are getting too much of it! Pouring most of today too. When the water receded off the greenway it tore places of the pavement up
@snha awesome long run!!!!!
@kristinegift nice bandit look - hey have you ever had a problem wearing your watch on the outside of your jacket sleeve. Last year my iPod and my watch batteries died during a run from the cold. I had both on the outside of my jacket. I was able to replace the watch battery but it killed my iPod for ever. Love the new pictures too!
Saw physical therapist today about the pain in my knee(s), he said the right knee is ITBS. He rolled me all over the table, gave me a bunch of exercises to do, and hooked me up for heat and stimulation. He said I could keep running, but since I start to hurt around mile 3, I can only run 3 to 4 miles and no more. He asked if I sprained my ankle because the right ankle is really tight so we will work on that too. We talked for a long time about trail running that is his passion. He's trying to get me to run a few trail races.

@skippygirlsmom I haven't had issues with my watch outside my jacket (except for having to take it off to roll up sleeves or take it off) but the first day I was back at home, it was ~19 degrees and my iPod shuffle told me it was cold. It lasted 6 miles, but probably shouldn't have taken it out. I've never had issues with the Garmin though!0 -
Found the plan I'm going to follow! Yippee! www.walkjogrun.net Beginner Marathon Training Plan. Instead of demanding certain miles, I have to put in the amount of time, and the number of miles (initially) isn't as important. My first 10 mile long run is 2/20, which is the 10 mile race I signed up for. The first few weeks running is 3x a week then it bumps up to 4x a week. Cross training and rest days built into the schedule which is very helpful to me. It's supposed to start today, but that would hinder me making goal this month, so I'm modifying it just for this week.
I'm glad you found a plan, and that you're wise enough to modify it when appropriate. Just a thought - if what you're already doing is more than the start of the plan, it wouldn't be the worst thing to start at some week of the plan that approximates where your fitness is right now.

Probably not. I have 3 pair of antlers from doing Reindeer Run the past 3 years; any reasonable criterion for the bling would have far more than 3 members of this group qualifying.
2016 miles in 2016 is an interesting concept. [pause to check records] I have 1828.33 miles in so far in 2015, and I project to run about 13 more miles before the end of the year. On the one hand, I'm not particularly close for 2015. On the other hand, I'll be starting 2016 with more miles the first week than my peak week in 2015 and putting in a lot of miles between the start of the year and Patriot Day. And I've already registered and paid for 99.2 miles of races in 2016; more will appear on my calendar as the year progresses.
The gripping hand is, it's one more online site to use to keep track of stuff. I think I'll pass. I already know I'll be time crunched between work and training once 5 day work weeks start back up in January. I can let a few online interactions drop, particularly since I'm more focused on miles per week than miles per month or miles per year.0 -

Doesn't look like I'll be making my goal this month. I was completely on track through Friday. Drove home from my parents house yesterday, so decided to put my long run off until today. Around 3am, I woke up with excruciating pain in my neck and shoulder. I'm on muscle relaxers and ibuprofen. It's helping somewhat, but still can't move my neck much to the left. Barring a miraculous recovery, I won't be able to make my goal. Would have to do 9 tomorrow, 4 Wednesday, and 7 Thursday to make it happen...
So frustrating to be sidelined with a non running injury. All injuries are frustrating, but at least a running injury would make sense...0 -

Okay, I have been trying to look into as many races/fun runs as I can for next year.. There are a few, though some are too far for me to get to around kids and family commitments. So I'm aiming to do some virtual runs around the races I can get to- to help motivate me (Let's face it.. It's nice to get a medal for the hard work!)
Most races over here don't offer medals, unless you run a HM or Marathon! So.. some medals would be appreciated We usually get a small showbag with some flyers on local businesses, small discounts off running apparel and depending on the race, a tee or singlet to wear (which is only offered at 1 of the major races I'm pretty sure). So.. it would be nice to get a medal!
I've added these three to my list from the U.S. Road Running site:
30/1- New Year Virtual 10K
27/2- Ninja Virtual 10K
31/3- Howl At The Moon Virtual 10K
And just paid for my first race, the New Year Virtual 10k!0 -
Made my goal today!! Yay - super proud of myself! Can't wait to set a higher goal for January

Congrats on reaching your goal, @summerdaze120 !0

12/2 4 miles
12/6 6 miles

12/21 3.5 miles
12/25 3.5 miles
12/26 4 miles (accidentally put 12/16 in the first post)
12/28 4 miles
OK 3.5 miles from my goal of 50. I originally figured I might not make it with the holiday stuff going on, but assuming I don't step off any more sidewalks and injure myself (ha! that's not a safe assumption!), or illness, or emergency, I think I'll manage0 -

@Virkati yea! Glad you found a plan!
Who needs motivation for 2016! I DO! LOL! http://www.runtheyear2016.com/
2016 miles impossible? You can form a team! Wha!! @ACSL3 thanks for sharing this!
Yay. Thanks for sharing I posted it on my newsfeed yesterday but had several pages in here to catch up on. I signed up for it but will be counting both walking and running. I'm not up to running 2016 miles in a year yet My fitbit says I've walked+ran 1700 miles, but it's low since there's a few weeks in there where I'm missing whole data. I figure this will be a good challenge and I'm probably ~200 miles under it this past year. That means adding <1mi/day this year to make the goal0 -
Finally crossed the 200 mile mark for the month on my easy 6 mile run tonight. Knees were still a bit sore after my long/harder run last night, so I'll play my remaining 28 miles by ear.
12/1 - 4 miles
12/2 - 4 miles (hill repeats at a 7 pace)
12/3 - 4 miles
12/5 - 6 miles
12/6 - 4 miles (5k in 19:26 - 2nd/85 runners)
12/7 - 15 miles (w. speedwork session in middle)
12/8 - 6 miles
12/9 - 7.5 miles (w. group tempo run session in middle)
12/10 - 7 miles
12/11 - 3 miles
12/12 - 1 mile (pre lift warmup)
12/13 - 10 miles
12/14 - 20 miles (w. speedwork session in middle)
12/15 - 10 miles
12/16 - 8.5 miles
12/17 - 1 mile (pre lift warmup)
12/18 - 4 miles
12/19 - 6 miles (10k in 40:12 - 2nd age group)
12/20 - 20 miles
12/22 - 13 miles (w. 6 miles of speedwork)
12/23 - 5 miles
12/24 - 10 miles (recovery & speedwork session)
12/25 - 6 miles
12/26 - 6 miles
12/27 - 15 miles (final 8 miles @ 7:45 pace)
12/28 - 6 miles
Total: 202 miles
Goal: 230 miles
Remaining: 28 miles (9.3/day)0 -
I've been hopeless at posting my progress but I'm on 199/200km. Not quite sure why I didn't run a bit extra this morning to meet my goal but it should be good motivation for a final run before the end of the year0

Think I have just broken my little toe by accidentally banging it on a door. Far too painful to walk with trainers on. Gutting I might now not make goal despite walking almost 30k in the last week whilst loaded with cold to keep this goal alive. Any tips on walking with broken toe. (Not going to doctor as I have done this before and when I called they told me they can't do anything - tape your toes together and rest. Their website says the same).

Dec 12: 4.72 miles in my new shoes but I kept 'em (mostly) clean
Dec 13: Rest day (intentional..not just being lazy). Still minor hip twinges but I’ve been doing more stretching and that seems to be helping. I probably need to bite the bullet and start doing core muscle building though.

Dec 15: A little cooler this morning and drizzly. 3.07 miles.
Dec 16: Busy until late that night, intended to get run in but sleepy won out.

We had snow/sleet all day yesterday, so this morning was a toss up between the dreadmill and toughing it out outside. I decided to go outside and managed to get my scheduled 4 miles in; had to take it really slow since I didn't want to fall on my butt, and I managed to stay vertical despite some slick over-plowed spots. Overall though, it was a good run. My hamstring wasn't pleased with all the slipping, but it's good practice for what's bound to come (and continue coming) all winter. Hopefully the roads will improve today and my longer runs later this week won't be so trecherous.
And hey! 100 of 100 miles today! Hooray! Taking a week off earlier in December, I wasn't sure I'd make it, but getting back to 30-40 mile weeks the second half of the month helped make up the gap.
Oh and PS! If anyone is looking for more winter gear, I just got a great neck warmer from Amazon. They have women's styles and men's styles, and they're pretty cheap; I wore mine today and it was comfy and warm and didn't get soaked through with sweat in 20 minutes. I wore it around my neck most of the time since I was wearing a crew-cut long-sleeve, but when I ran into the wind, I pulled it over my mouth and nose to keep my lungs from freezing. Highly recommend this or any neck warmer for those who don't have one!

It has been over a week since I have checked in here. I have run a whole 6 miles since then! It's okay. I promised my hubby that I would put running on the back burner the week of Christmas and make friends and family my priority. It's only right, since I spent the better part of 2015 focused on running. And it's amazing to me how you can find time to run when you want/need to, but if it's not your priority, it's easy to let it slide to the back burner. Aside from helping me to remember the importance of family and friends, this week also served as a good reminder of why I run. I feel like a bloated, lazy blob! I am looking forward to getting back out there, although we have dinner plans with friends tonight and tomorrow, so I won't likely hit any significant miles until Thursday. Total for the month so far: 80.3 (42 shy of goal). Looking forward to January!0

@Amandajs232 Sorry to hear about your toe. I had to rest up for three weeks when I broke my second toe, and I was given the same medical advice as you. Tape it up, rest up and take ibuprofen to reduce the swelling. Personally, I found taping it up to hurt more, but I guess it's better than having it heal back wonky in the long term!
@kristinegift Thanks for the tip about the neck warmer. I've been thinking about getting one, not that we really have the cold weather for it in the UK right now as it's more than 10°c warmer than it should be, but if the cold weather does finally hit I may well invest.
1st-18th = Sick
19th = 5km
21st = 2.5km
22nd = 3km +20mins elliptical & strength training
24th = 5km
26th = 5km
29th = 5km
Total month to date: 25.5km. I've given up on my goal, I'm apparently awful at maths and thought there were more days left of the month than there actually are :') But hey, I'm back into the swing of things and being a good girl by following my 6-week 10km training plan, which is what is important right now.
I've gone and registered for all the races I want to do in the New Year, right up until May (thank goodness for payday!) I hope having them all paid for will keep me motivated, as they are now definite goals in my mind not 'maybe's. I'm doing...
Hyde Park 10km - 31st January
Richmond Park 10km - 27th February
Spring Riverside 10km - 19th March
Paddock Wood Half Marathon - 3rd April
Run Hackney Half Marathon - 8th May
I've also started keeping a running diary, on the advice of my PT, who said it will help him to see what I'm doing right/wrong and help to make me more aware of my training and it's impact on my body. Does anyone else keep one? Does it help?0 -
@louubelle16 I've kept a training diary since Feb this year. It helps me stay focused- I hate days with no entry. I haven't had anyone want to look at it, but I do note how I feel and what hurt. I can look back and see how long something bothered me. I also note my max HR and pace.
