Kim : Again, Thank you. Words matter.
Katla: German and Japanese Americans, like your family members, served valiantly in WWII.

We all need to correct anyone who uses mental illness diagnoses, political party affiliation, math and science talent, social skills, weight, physical disability, religion, race, ethnicity or national origin or any other difference as a pejorative. We are all old enough to remember learning about Communism or the Holocaust, to have family or friends who lived under (or were killed) by Communists or Nazis, or to have lived under these regimes ourselves.

After World War II, perhaps Rev. Martin Niemoller said it best:
    :
"First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist....
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

    Hi Gals,
Been trying to keep up! Wowza! I haven't posted for over a week but read daily. I had the flue for a week or more and it was REALLY bad. Always complicated by my COPD. Started me mulling over the whole Will I should have already written....how do you handle a built by your father home that's been in the family for seventy years when your two children are beloved but drug and alcohol addicted w no job or minimum wage no drivers license or GED for one and no intention of going to college for the second? I raised them in church, volunteering weekly at each school, took them to lessons of ALL. kinds, counseling when needed. I've been sober since before I had them, they lived in a stable home albeit w grandparents that were suffering from terrible terminal illnesses....but the point is they couldn't care for the house. They can't even pay rent or their phone bills consistently. Uggg.
Anyway. On a more positive note...my boss asked me to apply for the new supervisor position that has opened. Took a couple off days to hem and haw bc there are a lot of candidates...but decided to give it a go and see what happens. Also have Key West to look forward to in 18 days but whose counting? And I am in the two teens! It has happened slowly, only five pounds a month on average but consistent. At this rate I'm hoping to be in one Der land in May or June. VERY happy with that.
I did receive the scale I ordered from the GMA deal someone posted. Nice scale. Scary numbers. Weight 219. Percent fat. 49%! And yes I'm still alive...water weight 25% (vey low compared to the norms in the guide) and bone mass 2.5 %. The norm is 4%. Now osteoporosis runs in the family. I had osteopenia diagnosed six or so years ago but got upgraded out of it a year or so ago...but that umber seems really low. Anybody have a similar scale and would be willing to compare numbers? I'm feeling a little like a Frankenstein but can happily report that my pain levels from arthritis have been low for over a week and I haven't had to take Advil at all even though I worked four nights in a row. I would do a Happy Dance if I could dance!
    Love you all

Sylvia ~ Love the fish platter.

Mindy ~ Congrats on your loss. Love the pics of your pups.

About the slang saying, "I'm Bad." I sometimes say that if I have made what I call a stupid mistake but I would never say it referring to an instance where I may have hurt someone's feeling. It never hurts to let someone know that you have hurt their feelings and ask to be forgiven.

We kept the two grands yesterday afternoon and it was such fun. I do not know how a 4 & 5 yr old can eat so much. I spent more time in the kitchen getting snacks and dinner than actually "playing".

drkatiebug-I love hardwood floors, also, but have never had them in my home. I have the resilient flooring vinyl planking that they sell at Home Depot, Lowes, etc. It is a wood grain and most people coming in can't tell it's vinyl. It is really easy to install and it has held up well. I don't have a dog, but I have six small children in and out of my house every day.

I really wish the weekends were a little longer. Busy, busy, busy with just getting things done, cleaned, and cooked. Had a nice visit with my sister. She has a dog named Leo. He is a MONSTER! A sweet, gentle 150 lb baby. She says he is a Rotty, but because of his size I would think he is a maybe a Rotty and Mastiff mix. Because of my daycare, I don't have a dog. I just can't validate getting a dog and locking him up away from people for 10-12 hours out of the day. But hanging with Leo yesterday, REALLY made me want one, again. He is six years old, huge, but he stays right by my sister's side as she moves through the house. His back is at fingertip height for her. So as she walks, he stays right at her side and if she loses balance or gets a little dizzy he is right there so she can use him to steady herself. He waits outside the shower and if she drops something he will lean in and pick it up and give it to her. This is her first week home after her second brain surgery. They were able to remove 90% of the tumor this time! But her first days home, Leo stayed right by her and if she was in pain or was crying he would whine and cry right along with her. The funny thing is, Leo is not my sister, Denise's dog. Denise has moved in with her best friend, who has a nursing background, and Leo is her friend's dog. Just uncanny how this dog has adopted her and is taking care of her!

Mindy- Ugh! The flu is the worst! My husband and son got it a week ago, and fingers crossed, I won't get it! I am glad you are feeling better! I agree with the part about needing to rewrite/update Wills. My husband and I need to do that. We haven't updated since our kids were very small and they are in their twenties now. It is hard stuff to figure it all out!

Good morning and the day will be as good as you make it. Mine will be great because I want it to be.

    Sylvia
So you have two houses one happens to be on a lake.
Mine is also on a lake it's not remote it's only 7 miles away from home. But no hydro, no running water, wood stoves. You want to wash you take a sauna and roll in the snow at this time of year that's how my son does it. He comes home to shower once in awhile but not often. His set up is even more remote than mine.

Beautiful dogs some dogs have the life of glory. But a lot are mistreated. If you can't treat them right don't have any.

A good pair of rubber boots will last forever. I call them my barn boots.

Well wii gave a little smile this morning. But my best accomplishment is my b/s at 7.6 that's the best in a long time. Today what to do same as every day get what needs doing done but leave some for tomorrow. Can't and don't want to get it all done in a day LOL.

    See you all lighter

Good morning ladies! We got the wood floor laid up to the kitchen. We will tile the kitchen and entryway. Any place that has the possibility of water damage I would rather have tile or vinyl.

Mindy - your dogs look so comfy!

    Have a great day everyone!

Got most of the prep done for the visitors. DH did all the root veg mashing. :D I'm going to give them the spinach and Feta Pie, cut into bite size pieces and some marinated prawns I bought today while I was out shopping. We will have those on sticks while we are having some sparkling wine in the living room. I'm not doing a starter course.
I've got my bagpipe music ready on my tablet and DH has found the Address to the Haggis. (Burns's poem) The table is laid with tartan.
The only slight problem is my head and sinus are all bunged up and I've got a headache. :'( DH isn't brilliant either. Oh well. In the night I thought I was definitelying getting flu, but I think I can manage with some pills to take the edge off.

We have light oak flooring all through the ground floor. Except in the utility room, which is tiled. It was partly what sold the house to us. Looks lovely and very easy to take care of, but then I don't have pets. We always take our shoes off when we come in and so do our guests. I keep hotel type slippers for those who want them. Most people know and come prepared. We have a very big inset coir mat by the front door, so people can wipe and change footwear easily.

I wish I felt better, but I'm getting excited now. :drinker:

Curious if any of you uses a Nutribullet? If so, have you had success with it? I'm at work and don't have time to go back to page 70 and read everything right now but will hop on tonight and read! Sorry!

    Have a great day ladies!

Carol: My personal kids used the expression "my bad" and so did my students. It meant "my mistake." "I'm bad," meant "I am SO cool..." I don't know whether that has changed since I retired from teaching, or whether it is a regional variation. :flowerforyou:

    Heather: Enjoy Burns night! :flowerforyu:

Tracie: I've never heard of nutribullet. Is it a blender/juicer?

Yoga this morning! I hope DH will come with me. We went out for lunch with family members yesterday & he was sick in the night. I wonder whether it was something he ate. He seems better this morning. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Mindy, my oldest grandson is an addict. I love him to pieces and struggle with guilt that I must have done something wrong in raising him. He has been in and out of rehabs since he was 16. He is working now and smokes pot still. I can understand the hesitation in leaving your home to them. DGS sold his car and anything he owned to get drugs. Know its hard for you. Good luck on the new position at work.

    Mary, how is your toe?

Heather, as always, your get together this evening sounds wonderful. Hope you stay feeling well enough to enjoy it.

Janetr - I think my toe was just badly bruised. I can walk on it without it hurting. Icing it and keeping it elevated right away really helped. Thanks for asking!
