Hi all! Thanks for the suggestions regarding meditation! I have copied down the info and will look up the apps, or try sitting in the dark with no apps at all.
Today was a little trying with a flat tire, lots of driving the daughter to and fro and a few other unplanned events. I was 'supposed' to get adult braces (I had them as a teenager but my teeth have moved alot) but I had to have other prep done today and will get them on in two weeks. I had really psyched myself up for it today, so I was disappointed to have to wait, and of course RELIEVED at the same time.
I only walked a bit on the beach and up and down the beach stairs, and walked my MIL's dog twice. Because of my frustration today, I decided to let myself enjoy a glass of wine, and 3 mini dark chocolate peanut butter cups.
But it was an absolutely glorious day in San Diego and I am counting my blessings!

Mary, Penny, Mia, and Kimses – I have joined the Biggest Loser Challenge. Looking forward to it.
Robin – Welcome. Thank you for sharing. The wildflower pictures you posted on your blog are beautiful. This is a great group to help support you as you work to get back on track. The ladies here are very supportive and have great advice.
Mkramarz, felasou, jeanniehedric, Carol/Maine, dxmcafee and anyone else new that I missed – Welcome, stay awhile, and post when you can. Remember to sign your post so that we know what you want to be called.
Oh Joyce, with all that you have been through over the last several months, I do not think you should beat yourself up about gaining weight. But, now it’s time to start thinking about yourself and doing what you know you need to do to take care of yourself.
Carol/NC – I hope that everything works out for you and the boy child. Have fun on your date!
Pip – Glad to hear that things went well for Bullwinkle today.
I am caught up again. I finished my 3-day detox and was down 3.4 pounds this morning. I exercised this morning, logged all my food, and was under my calorie goal today. Day by day - we can do this!
Linda/IA0 -
Linda - glad to hear that you will be a part of the challenge! Congratulations on your loss!
Katla - I'm happy to hear you enjoyed yoga! I bet you will be in the saddle again very soon. Too bad about your elbow. You wrist probably hurt too much to notice at the time.
Sanfordroberts -beautiful picture. My DH's DD, husband and ex just moved there. If we visit sometime we'll have to meet up.
Mary from Minnesota0 -
To all who are new or wonder if you can join, wonder if it has to be at the beginning of the month. We are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, every single year!
Thanks for the encouragement. When I finally get the courage to weigh here at home it won't be the same weight as at the doctors since here I have just real light PJs on and there I had jeans and t-shirt. Charlie always weighs with winter coat, shoes, everything. Not me. I don't want to give anything up. One of my hips feel better today, not good yet but better. Plus the sleeping pill worked. I jsut don't want to get in a habit of taking a sleeping pill.
Mary, my husband can do all of that to and he is 67 and still a brat sometimes.
Sylvia, I am so glad your son was not as bad as he thought it would be. Maybe this can be an encouragement for him that when he has to go to the hospital he won't feel this pending doom and be afraid to go. So nice of you to give all 4 kids a $5 bill. Yes, that can make a difference to a kid. It can make them feel normal especially if the teenager is going out with friends and they want to stop by some where and get a coke and chips at a gas station. you have a knack of making everyone feel they are important to you.
Michele, I always have to laugh when you are going to Lowes and getting stuff like a Fleets. Our lowes here is the big home improvement chain store. I'm sure they do not sell a Fleet's enema. Hope it works out.
Pip, is that the Bug you are thinking about getting????? That is some retirement car. That is a 'living' car!
Gotta go. Talk at you tomorrow, Joyce, Indiana0 -
Oh, I have to add. I have never bought anything from Groupon but i got an email that they had Fit Bits, the flex for $74.99 and the charge for $79.99. I have no idea how long the offers are for0

joyce- ROFLMAO!!!! You are hilarious! Do you give him treats too?

Morning ladies~ it was just crazy busy at work and I did real well eating until I got home, will have to go back and change my food diary.. didnt eat the dinner I planned, and broke down and had cookies, and not 1 but 2 tasycake apple pies ;(
didnt feel so hot this morning( gee I wonder why)
made myself oatmeal with walnuts and some freeze dried fruit and a cup of tea, and pulling my big girl pants on and getting back on track... gonna work 7:30-12 and then we shall see what the rest of the day brings0 -
Beth congrats to your son, waiting for auditions are tough, but that is the life of a musician, best of luck to him. I am on the other side now that dd is accepted and set for college next year. On the horizon is prom (yikes), going to be choppy waters in our house, dh is very strict and shelters her, dont know how to compromise on curfew, and all the party nonsense that kids expect along with it.
[bKim[/b] i will never think i am crazy busy again! You are amazing i could never accomplish in one week what you do in one day!
Carol glad to hear that dating is going well and that you are having fun.
Rori happy birthday weekend, hope the weather cooperates in nyc.
Nothing special planned for me this weekend, but plan to exercise both days, take a defensive driving online refresher course (6hours, gulp) and be good to myself, after all who else is going to if I dont!

Yesterday my husband got himself a full year's gym membership, and today he bought some new running shoes. Hooray!

Katla - thank you for the welcome.
I've been trying to get back into the walking routine. I have a pedometer app on my phone but it's too inconvenient to carry that big ol' phone around with me all day. I don't always have a pocket to put it in. So I think I'll get my little Digi-walker pedometer out and start using it today. I know it's not high tech, but it always worked for me. Used to be when I wore it every day, I would log at least 10,000 steps per day.
So today is "catch up" day. You know, I do everything today that I didn't have time for during the week. Going grocery shopping to Sam's Club and stock up on chicken, fish, and veggies. Time to stop fooling around with my health and get back on track!
Have a wonderful day, new found friends!
Donna in Wild, wonderful WV0 -
Never mind, guess it's a closed group. You should really note that somewhere.0
-
sweetnsouth~ not a closed group.. hop on in and tell us a little about yourself.. there has been a flood of new people and it will take time for everyone to get to know each other....
Joyce~ yes those groupon fit bits are refurbished.. if anyone doesn't care about that then they are a great bargain..
all ready for work... not happy about working saterdays but what can you do...
most everyone missed me,as I do the bulk of every cr@p job there. plus assist the dentist.. while I was gone ,on the days we have 2 drs working, there were 3 there and they were assisting each other..
so they were happy to have me back,
of course the troll still her trolly self had nothing but nasty comments..that she had to do everything and couldnt catch up. which she did not, she still does what she does ,does a little work and alot of chatting....
I am hoping once tonight roles around, to park Tom on the couch for some one on one time, to talk about the future with no distractions, except probably the dogs...0 -
I will never go to that vet clinic ever again! I was dissatisfied last time with the lack of compassion from the brown haired lady that took care of my puppy prior to the vet check. This time she was worse. The lady that was going to give her the shot asked her ( brown haired lady)to bring some peanut butter and instead she came in grabbed my puppy by his head and his front legs and just held him didn't even say hi to him or anything. When I was checking out she (Brownhaired lady) was on the computer and another lady there asked if she could hold my puppy from behind the desk and I let her. She was very kind to him and he was happy to be in her arms. Then the lady ( Brown haired lady ) that was checking me out stood up to her and to the other lady and said here let me have him. The lady said oh you want to give him some love to? NO, she grabs him from her holding him with her hands under his front legs from his back side dangling him in the air and literally throws him across the desk at me and says here is your puppy! I was shocked and almost in tears and left.
Mary from Minnesota[/quote]
Mary that's bad on so many levels! I suggest you say something to the vet in charge of the clinic. He needs to know he's losing you as a client and why.

Katla, you have a slob sister in me. It is an ongoing battle. My office area, closet, laundry room, back porch and the kitchen are always a mess. I try to minimize the mess in the other areas.
My girls and the grandkids are waking up so chat with you all later!

Happy Saturday. No sticker on my calendar for me yesterday! Went to my interview (which was an hour drive each way), met a friend for lunch, came home and napped, then went to a post-holiday party and got home around midnight. I have no idea what I ate. Well, I do, but really couldn't account for how many calories. The party was tapas so you never know with those. But it was a fun day.
The interview went very well. I was totally psyched when I left. It's the "in" place to work. But I am very sensitive to the age issue. Everyone was in their 20s and 30s and so full of energy and vigor. It's funny that I was asked twice what my career goals were. Can't very well say "to make it four more years until my son is out of college and then get out of this rat race!". However it turns out, it's all good. Making new connections can never hurt and keeping current and practiced on interview skills will help me if I do find myself out of work suddenly (which seems like it might be a possibility).
When I look for a job now, I scope out their website to see if they have an onsite gym and where wellness fits into their culture. I always think about how I'm going to fit a workout in somewhere in the day...even if it's talking a long walk along the Charles River, which is ok by me!
Plan for today is domestic stuff like cleaning and shopping. I haven't quite let go of the holiday spirit yet.
Workout first though.
Bring the Biggest Loser Challenge on! I'm ready!!

I'm up a bit early so I can walk the dogs and be dressed and ready to leave the house for an all day meeting, I go to these a few times a year and usually the meeting is a two hour drive away so at least this time it's only 30 minutes away. I'll see lots of friends today and have a great time, but sitting all day is a huge challenge for me.
I've been reading marie kondo's book about tidying up, this morning I listened to Gretchen Rubin's podcast about throwing things out, I'm getting the email some of you recommended about tidying up, and so many of you are talking about clearing clutter, so I'm eager to do something but I have four days of meetings, friends from out of town, and two medical procedures for Jake so who knows when I can get all those folders and boxes out and start discarding.

Best wishes to Jake xoxo0

SanfordRobe: What a gorgeous view of the beach and the Pacific! I love where I live, but the beach is my favorite destination. Thanks to you I feel like I've been there this morning. :flowerforyou:
Linda/IA: Congratulations on your success. :flowerforyou:
Joyce: Lowe's around here is also a home improvement place. I'm happy that you're back to work on your own health.
Alison: One day at a time. I hope today is a better day for you.
Donna in WV: I know that Barbie has transformed herself with the help of a pedometer. I just use my watch. Gadgets like Fitbit are not necessary but some people like them. If they help someone be motivated to move more they are a good thing. :flowerforyou::
Sweetnsouth: Alison is right. This is not a closed group although gentlemen have not been warmly welcomed. :flowerforyou:
Miriam: Yay! Another sister!
Barbie: When I am in a lengthy meeting I like to find a seat along the edge or in the back so I can get up and stretch as needed without bothering anyone behind me. I hope you have a good day. I hope Jake's medical procedures go well and you enjoy your friends from out of town. :flowerforyou:
I just read the medical report from my fall and may take it along with me to my next appointment with the orthopedist so that I can ask for explanations and understand it better. I see him again Wednesday afternoon.

Pip VW brought back memories. I took my first driving test in one and learned to drive a stick shift. My brother later had an orange convertible that looked similar to yours.
SanfordRobe: Moment of Zen. Thanks
Going to a tea today with the theme of Christmas Around the world. I plan on taking my Santa Lucia figurines.

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .
Good Morning Ladies,
Mary, it sounds like Shep is a fast learner for such a young thing. Just remember, “you can’t put an adult’s mind in a child’s body” and he’s still a baby.
Carol NC, so glad you had a good time on your date. I’m so proud of you for venturing out into the world of dating!!!
Sylvia, so glad your pain is gone! I take that same one once a day and hope you get to continue on it. Glad son is doing well. You are always so thoughtful and good to the kids. I want to be like you when I grow up.
Donna, I know you can take the reins, so just do it. We are all here for you and glad to have you join us.
Katla, I hope you are back in the saddle next week, too. Congrats on a successful yoga session.
Linda, congrats on being a loser!
Joyce, glad you slept well. I took a sleeping pill last night too. I always keep them but probably don’t take two a month. Just knowing I have the choice if I can’t sleep is a comfort to me.
PolePenny, you are too smart. I didn’t realize that this was Leap Year. I’d better start practicing my leaping.
Allie, I hope you have a successful talk with Tom. He needs to step up to the plate and decide what he wants to do.
Kimses, I think you need to remember that age is just a number and you are truly as young as you feel. I found over the years that I fit right in with the younger people at work but mainly because I never thought of myself as old. Now I realize that I was, but it sure didn’t slow me down. Lol You just go girl!!!
Barbie, wow it sounds like you are going to be a busy lady for a while. Like I always say, the clutter will wait until you have time to get to it. Glad your meeting today isn’t so far away.
Katla, I love the picture, too. (Where did you get that picture of Me??) Thanks for sharing.
to any Newbies that I missed. Come often and join in the chat. This thing works!! Please sign your post with what you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to respond to you. Also a location is great, be it specific or general. We are happy to have you join us.
WowWee, this is the easiest I’ve read all the posts since the first. I love having all the new ladies but it has been an effort to keep up. I did my movement in place for a little over 11 minutes this morning. I say “in place” but I am actually all over the family room. I do some jogging, some dancing and lots of arm movements with it and it’s getting to be fun. I never thought I’d say any kind of exercise was fun??? Hopefully I can build the time up. Today it’s work on the office some more. Yesterday I took about an inch and a half stack of paper and punched holes in it to put in a binder. I just have a small 3 hold punch so can only do a few pages at a time. It is the legal documents for our HOA so now I have them where I can easily read and put some tabs on it. First I have to hit the Wii so onward and upward.
I hope all of you have a healthy and happy day.
Words I live by:
Savor. I have to slow down and savor every bite.
and
Opportunity. Each day offers new opportunities for good health and happiness if we just look for them and choose them.
I Love you,
DJ

Sylvia ... My mother still sends $5 bills ... In the mail ... To my two sons ages 29 and 18. They love it! Heck ... I would love it! You are one of those rare people who makes a point of making sure everyone feels included and special ...
Becca ... I think many mothers put themselves last. I've done it when it wasn't necessary or expected ... I'm not doing it anymore!
Katla ... Love the photo!
Catch up day for me too ... Off to the laundry pile!

Katla - It's called a RIKA Esprit. It was in the house when we moved in, along with a huge pile of logs. We rarely use it because we are lazy and we just have the central heating on. I have had it on for decoration when visitors come or once when we had a power cut. It only burns wood and it is very exacting in its requirements as to the amount etc. I agree it looks very nice and is always admired. At the moment I have red tissue paper inside it and string lights.
DeeDee - The outfit is a winter white soft sweater with a cardigan over it which is white with little black hearts. I am wearing a glass necklace I bought on the island of Murano in Venice. :flowerforyou:
DJ - I have just taken the Easy Crustless Spinach and Feta Pie out of the oven. Having it for dinner, 2 portions each, with an avocado salad. The last two portions will be lunch tomorrow. Any new people should have a look at skinnytaste.com.
Joyce - until a few years ago restaurants tried to sell you expensive bottled water and it was difficult to get them to supply tap water. Then there was a big campaign against that and now it is standard practice to offer tap water as a choice.
Terrible weather here again. Our local team, that DH goes to see some Saturdays, is the last non league team left in the FA Cup. Today is their big day. Last week a match was cancelled because the ground was waterlogged. Today the big cup match was on a knife edge while 3 referees decided if it could go ahead. At 1pm they said it could. Since then it has been blowing a gale and pouring with rain. Utterly miserable. And dark. Sell out crowd.
Today I heard from my DDIL (not from my son of course who has told me nothing) that my son doesn't have to commute every day to Brighton, but is working from home with meetings twice a week in London or Brighton. Also they don't mind if he catches the train after 9.30. It is a consultancy job for a hotel chain who are thinking of starting their own brewery. His last job was starting up and managing a brewery. He doesn't think it will happen, hence the three month contract.
I find myself continually amazed at the work ethic and competence of my children.
An afternoon snack is calling me.

Kimses... I tell them I'm looking for the last company I will ever want to work for... you can take that two ways, but so far everyone's taken it as a positive.
