Well people eat periods, bull balls, intestines and toss salads so it's not too far fetched. lol0

Substitute the word "poop" for intestinal flora. And yes it is a thing. Which is showing results.

Thank you for posting those articles! Cool stuff I learned...
1) "Documenting such differences does not mean the discrepancies are responsible for obesity, however. To demonstrate cause and effect, Gordon and his colleagues conducted an elegant series of experiments with so-called humanized mice...The mice ate the same diet in equal amounts, yet the animals that received bacteria from an obese twin grew heavier and had more body fat than mice with microbes from a thin twin. As expected, the fat mice also had a less diverse community of microbes in the gut."
2) "then repeated the experiment with one small twist: after giving the baby mice microbes from their respective twins, they moved the animals into a shared cage. This time both groups remained lean. "
Why did they remain lean?
3) "the mice carrying microbes from the obese human had picked up some of their lean roommates' gut bacteria—especially varieties of Bacteroidetes—probably by consuming their feces, a typical, if unappealing, mouse behavior."
Mice are already more advanced than us on this particular medical discovery...0 -

I read a article about it ( was a paper of some sort) it had to do with gut micro biome in rats and fecal transplant. There were human trials where it was found that the fecal transplant of thinner to fatter people ( and it was given in a capsule sanitized etc) it did help to lose weight through their micro biome. However did end up causing other diseases ( I don't remember what tho)0

Wouldn't it be less gross just to eat some yogurt?0

They do have these pills but they are to cure C.Diff....an intestinal infection you can get from long term use of antibiotics. Wouldnt recommend them for any other use.0
-
I bet I would lose weight if I got E. coli from someones poo.0
-
Does this mean that I can maybe make money selling my poop?0

I guess that's an interesting point.
Is a poop pill from a vegan, ok for vegans to take?
Vegans seem to be against eating animals or animal products, but they aren't against babies drinking breast milk etc
So cow milk is a no no but human milk is ok. So is human poop ok also. No cute furry animals were harmed, caged, used, killed.
I guess poop pills would be similar to ice cream made from human breast milk, is that ok for vegans?
How can we be sure that humans aren't being chained to porta-potties for their skinny poo? Factory Farming human poop!0 -
Well people eat periods, bull balls, intestines and toss salads so it's not too far fetched. lol
Placenta too.
I don't have the time nor the energy to read anything related to this, but I suppose I can see where transferring bacteria could be beneficial in some instances.... Why not? I don't see where this would do anything magical for weight loss though.

I would be worried about diseases that can be transmitted via fecal-oral route. Some examples: c. Diff, hepatitis a/e, cholera, typhoid fever, e. Coli, tape worms, the list continues. You can bet a company that is looking to make money from this, is likely not following good screening practices for these diseases.
One of the primary conditions it is being tested to treat is c. diff.0 -

I think it is furthering research from this:

In order to have a fecal transplant, at this point, you have to find your own donor and do much of the work yourself. You have to hope that you just happen to have a friend or family member with the GI microbiome that will cure what ails you (c. diff, diabetes, UC, obesity, etc.)
?? Find your own donor? Not at a good hospital you wouldn't.0 -
Eating poop for weight loss? Whatever happened to doing things just for the romance? Suddenly even hugs and coprophagia have to be about health benefits?0

This is both disgusting and very interesting at the same time. Ok, so even if it is effective, it just seems like there would have to be a better way to get the same results!0 -
I saw someone mention this in another thread and had to search for it. What the....?!? I thought it must have been a joke, but looks like it is real.0

I was in recovery while this was originally posted. I'm glad someone bumped it. XD
It's actually quite fascinating to read up on gut bacteria and how it may or may not affect weight. I normally roll my eyes at people who claim diet soda is bad for you, but when someone mentioned its affect on gut bacteria, it got me curious. (Not curious enough to put down my diet Dr. Pepper).
I'm extremely interested to learn what comes out of this in five years or so.0 -

Dang, mice are freaks. Little furry freaks. Invite some mice to your party if you want it to go off.

So, is it real? Perhaps, Japan made chips out of human poop before and marketed it.
Is it healthy? No, absolutely not.
Well there is a medical treatment called a fecal transplant where the feces from a healthy gut is given to a patient severely lacking.... But these pills are certainly not a medical procedure!0 -

They say the idea is that thin people have different bacteria in their gut than obese people, and therefore obese people could benefit from eating thin people's poop.
Is this for real???? Has anyone else ever heard of this? I can't imagine that anyone would want to do that, but I guess maybe people get desperate and will try anything?
The fact that you have to ask if it's real is rather frightening!
no kidding that is scary

You could lose weight quickly eating just about anyone's poop. It's called E. Coli.0

If losing weight depending on me eating someone's poop I'd just have to be a fatty.... lol0

There is research going into fecal transplants for serious conditions such as C.diff. But, it's very experimental. It has saved some people's lives, but comes with very big risks. So, you would need to be in such a serious condition that the risk would be worth taking. It can cause a thin person to become obese and the other way around (that's one of the side effects). Usually you do not eat the poop because that's even more risky. Usually it goes in the other end with an enema. But, you would be better off trying less invasive things first such as diet changes, lifestyle changes (exercise, reducing stress, etc), probiotics, prebiotics, only taking antibiotics when absolutely necessary. And giving it time to change on it's own. When a person does get a fecal transplant they usually find their own donor (partner or family member).0
