Katia49 - French Spaniel is not an AKC breed. We got her from Breeder in Quebec. Amazing dog. Looks like cross between a Brittany and English Setter.

Margaretturk- Great garden pics to get us all in the mood for spring, no matter what it may look like outside our window.

DamitJanit - Have fun on your cruise. Our next cruise is in April 2017, out of Galveston Texas and we are going to Belize, Cozumel and Honduras. Really looking forward to it.

Terri -- Good luck to your daughter on the voice.

Sue - I too had a fall on ice many many years ago. Landed on my tailbone! Sat on a blowup donut for about 6 months. Not fun.

CheriGee2 - Yes, my daughter stared working with a nutritionist right after she was diagnosed and went Gluten Free and Dairy Free. While it made her feel amazingly good digestively it did not have any affect on the MS and one year later she had 6 new lesions. Now just starting on new MS medicine and finding good balance with all of it.

KJLaMore – Thanks, yes seeing their face makes everything better some days.

Lenora – thanks for the welcome and the new author to look up.

Just want to say thanks to all the ladies in this group. Very welcoming and I love sitting down and catching up with everyone. Positive thoughts out to everyone!

Drove through downtown Atlanta in the fog at 6 AM yesterday. Since I seldom drive in the dark, it was an experience I don't wish to repeat. My Sis and I had an appointment with a lawyer to see where we stood on the house we have with our Mom (a living estate). Didn't really learn much but did get to see my new niece who is 3 wks old and weighs a little over 5 lbs. So tiny! Turned out this lawyer knew my brother who is the circuit judge for 3 counties.

Rain storms made their way here this morning. It's still raining but should stop soon and then turn very cold again.

DJ ~ Hope you have wonderful weather for your cruise.

Mindy ~ Sorry you didn't get the job you interviewed for but glad your daughter got one.

Beth ~ Hope your son's migraines get better miraculously!

Lenora ~ Love reading about your family and growing up in small town GA.

Miriam ~ That cat is too cute. Is that the one that bit you?

The pictures were from garden tours I went on in summer's past.

It is amazing how much time, effort, and love people put into their gardens. I like to put them on slide show and enjoy the gardens again. No calories.

One of my friends asked what I do to keep from eating. Looking at these gardens is one of them.

    Happy Wednesday ! ! !

Yvonne – At the office where I work, many people have brought in yoga balls. Mine is a little short for working at my desk, but I bounce on it during breaks (which are also taken at my desk, but I rest my brain from most everything that does not require immediate attention). I hope it also improves my posture. // Hugs and prayers for you and your Dad’s situation.

    Becca
    – The banana bread with coconut flour did not get made. I don’t know what I’m thinking trying to do anything “house-wife-ish” during the transition from bowling to baseball season. I just ate the over-ripe bananas with my oatmeal this week instead. But thanks for attempting the kick in the pants that I need. Do you think the pan I bought for making homemade twinkies would make good mini banana breads? // + Miriam – In Winona MN the shelter there schedules their volunteers, and they prefer to limit a person to once per week, so you don’t get burned-out from it. But, that volunteer position includes cleaning and feeding. They prefer to have someone coming twice per day for the cats. We never volunteered for the dogs, but I know they had people who came to walk the dogs.

Katla – I’m in your camp about alcohol. While I like the flavor of beer and wine and pina colada, I don’t like what it does to my brain during and after. Plus, with a non-driving teenage athlete, I just can’t take the chance of getting in the car. And since I rarely drink, it only takes 1 for me. Plus, it just isn’t worth the calories. I respect the decisions of those who do find it worthwhile, and I’m not a complete non-drinker, as I will take full advantage of the free drinks next month in Reno. Mimosa for breakfast? Yes thank you ! I will likely get myself to the gym every day, and DH wants to hit up some Historical tours, or a museum.

Margaret – the faerie garden is adorable. Thanks for sharing ! ! !

    Kim
    – You have the power ! ! !

Pip – congrats on your lifted weight restrictions; good news for Bullwinkle, too ! ! !

DJ – add me to your list of envious of your cruise. I have never been on one, but hear they are amazing and fun ! ! ! Send us Oceanic vibes for peace and warmth as often as possible.

    Lenora
    - what type of aura do you have? I hope you and/or your doc find what is wrong and a painfree solution. One of my cousins had a mesh put in after her second child, and she is very happy with the results.

I had a big NSV last night. I was having trouble staying asleep, and I did NOT eat. I walked slowly around the house and drank water (which then made it impossible to hit the snooze button when it was time to start my day at 3:30am). I tried crochet, and just sitting, in the dark, listening to ocean sounds, nothing was enough, but I wasn’t hungry, so I didn’t eat. Yay ! // I did, however make the conscious decision to have another serving of the cherry torte that a patient brought yesterday. She makes the most amazing treats, and I savored every spoonful.

Thanks, everyone, for the good wishes for DD on Sunday ! ! ! She states that this is step 2 of 4 before hopefully being invited to Hollywood to be on the show. She has natural talent, but hasn't been using it for a few years now. I hope she has a positive experience, regardless of the outcome. Forgive my poor memory, but I think the last performance she had was about 6 years ago, when she was singing the National Anthem at the Semi-pro and University Football Games in Winona. // My Dad and the lady I went to the Wynonna concert with are also going along, because they have never been to Navy Pier.

I still don't have a "date" for the Three Dog Night concert this Friday, so I think I will get a bite to eat after work, then come back and exercise for awhile, then get to the concert exactly on time, and enjoy my alone time. And again I hope the people around me aren't too bothered by my singing, because I plan on having a blast. Maybe I will wear one of my tiaras again, too.

Okay, back to work. It is quiet today, so I should get caught up on my paperwork.

    Hugs for Everyone ! ! !

    Pip You are a powerhouse!
Katla I was thinking about the "right way to fall" last night. A gymnast friend told me to roll up in a ball. Then I started thinking about when I broke my elbow and wrist (separate times) and each time it happened so fast I had no idea what was going on until I was on the ground. Maybe the only solution is to move to Florida. Or, possibly, wrap ourselves in bubble wrap. But I hear you! I'm so afraid of falling. When I go down steep stairs I hold on really tight because it's like I can see what the fall would be like. And ice is the demon.

I slept until 9:30 today because I was still feeling poopy from a cold. I also did it because I can. Into the second week of unemployment and I'm a slug. However, lots of interviews happening so I feel productive.

Today, log the full days food. Yoga and elliptical. Getting a late start, but off I go!

Hello everyone! I have just spent sometime reading all of your February posts. This sounds like a very tight and supportive group. I'm hoping you have room for one more?

Like all of you, I'm trying to make some healthier life style changes, lose some weight, work full time, take care of my husband, my lovely mother-in-law, one bad-*kitten* beagle, and not go screaming into the night during the process.

I received a Fit Bit for Christmas, and have been working towards my 10,000 steps. But I got sidetracked in January. I was out for three weeks with bacterial pneumonia, and really couldn't do anything. Now, I'm ready to work towards my goals. Hopefully with a little support and friendship?

Heather: The Avgolemono sounds wonderful. DH and I both have solar watches and like them very much. He liked his so well that I wanted one too and it was a birthday present. Mine is made by Seiko and I've had no trouble with it. Since it is analog rather than digital I have to adjust the date/day of the week to account for shorter months. I hope your DH likes his as much as we love ours.

Anna LA: DH has MS & treated it solely with acupuncture until I could bully him into getting an appointment at an MS practice in this area that was recommended to me by several people. What a difference! He seems to have stabilized & I only wish I could have persuaded him to get to a specialist & start medicine sooner. His is taken orally and is called Aubagio. I'm glad your daughter is having good results with her medicine. :flowerforyou:

Margaret: There are no garden tours in our community as far as I know but there are several that are open to the public within a reasonable driving distance. :flowerforyou:

Terri in Milwaukee: Enjoy Three Dog NIght! What a treat. I am envious.

DH has an appointment with a new doctor this morning. She will be his GP. The doctor he's been seeing for years has closed his practice to move to CA because his wife, also a doctor, got the chance for a very good position there. I'm trying to decide whether to accompany him or go to yoga. I am leaning toward going with him at this point. He is competent and doesn't need my help, but I like to know who takes care of him. Most of what he needs is a simple meet and greet to see whether she will be a good fit. He doesn't need me for that, but he has an infected spot on his back, and I want to be sure he has it seen.

    February Resolutions :
    1. Log every bite and swallow.
    2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week. Work on flexibility and back strength.
    3. Have fun every day.
    4. Drink at least three glasses of water daily, preferably more!
    5. Monitor sleep. Try to average 7 or more hours of sleep nightly.

    Goals
    1. Find a place I can learn to fall without getting hurt once my doctor says it is ok to try.

KJLAMORE - I'm not actually taking drawing classes, it was just a one off. I belong to the Women's Institute who meet once a month and try to find different, enjoyable things for us to do. The woman who was running the session does give classes if anyone got the bug and wanted to join.
The implement was a ballpoint pen. Just to do something different. We also used charcoal and pencil. I enjoyed that exercise where I wasn't allowed to look at the drawing more than anything. :D
I like to get my food prepped early too. Nothing makes me more grumpy than to have to cook from scratch in the evening. I am usually all prepped by early afternoon. If I were at work I would do like you and get a crock pot. Skinnytaste.com recommends a new type that does everything, pressure cooker, slow cooker, keep warmer and makes yoghurt. :noway: I don't need it, but if I were working it would be top of my list.

Karen - one of my younger son's friend's sister committed suicide when he was about 16. I was deeply impressed by the way the group of friends came together and supported their friend through it. They often gathered in my son's small bedroom and it was packed. It must have been a life changing experience for them all. My elder son said it taught him never to kill himself because of the terrible pain it leaves behind. I find that a comfort sometimes when he is severely depressed and I don't hear from him.

PS - the pot is called Instant Pot Duo 7 in 1, 6 litre .

Grits - How did you get to read "Private Rio" already? I love the Private series and went to find it and it isn't out until June 2016 so I pre-ordered it. I assume someone shared the galley with you. Color me jealous.

Katla, sometimes the local garden club will have tours that aren't advertised outside of the club, so you might look in to that as a venue. Another thing is that most gardeners LOVE showing off their gardens, so if you ever see a nice garden and the gardener is working in it, stop and chat- they may very well offer you a tour. Landscape architecture classes may also know of some tours that aren't well publicized. I often give tours of my garden, and have given one to the garden club. I also give tours of my Victorian house to people who happen to stop by and comment on it.

Yesterday I did 25 minutes on the NuStep at the Y while the girls were doing Tae Kwon Do, and then did 30 minutes of calisthenics by the side of their class. Today I did an hour workout in my hot tub. I am on a roll! LOL I logged yesterday, even when I almost didn't because I thought for sure I had gone over. But I did and found out that I was under! That was a nice plus. It will make me more likely to log even if I think I blew the day!

I DID MY WRITING! Go me!
I almost didn't because it had got to 4.15 and that is my slump time, but I had PROMISED you ladies and I could see DJ's boot out of the corner of my eye, so I switched my laptop on and did some. I was writing about the Children's Hour programmes I watched on our 9 inch TV when I was very young.
Thank you for being there. <3

    Hello everyone!

Yesterday was such a lot of fun! Two ladies from my artist co-op group went with me to Springfield to visit an existing art coop. Before we went there, I drug them along with me to the clay supply store south of Springfield and it just happened that the lady working there was one of the artists at the coop that we were going to visit. We spent about 45 minutes with her and she was so nice. She shared how their coop works, what problems they have and things like that. It was all really good information, and most of it lined up perfectly with what we had already planned, so it gave us a lot of confidence that we are on the right path. Then we went to the gallery and spoke with another woman there who gave us even more info, and she called two other artists and they came down to the gallery to visit with us. It could not have been more helpful! Afterwards we went to lunch across the street from the gallery, visited a pottery gallery and a glass gallery, both within a block of the coop gallery. At the glass place we even got to watch a demo where they were blowing a pitcher. It was very mesmerizing to watch. And we hit three thrift stores. Fun! I got the girls each a cute hat. We went to an art supply store and I got the kids all some art things too.

On the way back we stopped at a coop gallery in Joplin and the clerk happened to be one of my pottery friends, so we got a great tour from here there too. I didn't get home till 8:30. Boy, was I tired. I drove, so it felt like I was stuck in the car all day. The highways are hard for me, and the one between Springfield and Joplin is especially full of big trucks. But I did OK and didn't kill us all, although I was talking too much and took two wrong turns. Oh well.

Today I saw through that free Webinar, and it was pretty annoying. It took her 19 minutes to get to the point, she talked about the main topic for about 10 minutes, then spent the last 40 minutes telling us how to buy her "system". So, you really do get what you pay for. I didn't expect much, so I wasn't disappointed. My time could have been better spent, though.

Now I have some drafting to do before I can do anything in the studio. So, I'd better get to it. Have a great day!

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .

    Good Afternoon Ladies,

Katla, it’s probably a good thing that you rarely drink alcohol if it makes your brain go fuzzy. smiley-confused009.gif I have very little to no reaction from alcohol or drugs. My good friend can take a very low dose pain pill and it makes her loopy. Good plan to help with the stew.

Margaret, love the pictures. Thanks for always sharing a bright spot in our day.

Kim, you said, “ok I am channeling you all there are 3 loaves of hot homemade bread making my house smell fabulous!!!” and I thought you were going to share them with the first one of us that got there. There isn’t much in this world any better than fresh, hot homemade bread!!! Yum Yum Yum

Pip, sounds like good news all around from your doctor’s appointments. Way to go for both of you!

Barbie, when you first said that you gave the pill with peanut butter, my first thought was, well everyone will need a treat. Aren’t they just like kids? This morning on GMA they had two standard poodles that reminded me of Sasha and Brandy, swinging in swings. They were too cute.

    Miriam, cute garden.

Kay, there is nothing “wimp” about it. You had one heck of a work out so you are entitled to a little pain relief. Otherwise you might not have been able to sleep. Great work out though!!!

Joyce, that is great that your insurance company pays for nonprescription medical needs!! It will be interesting to see how both sizes work out for Charlie.

Sylvia, glad you had a good day in Springfield. Sleep well.

Rori, I feel the same way and you said it so nicely: “I'm humbled and honored to be included in this amazing group.

CheriGee, you are doing this “answering thing” just right. There is no “pretty soon” to it. We’re glad you have joined us.

Allie, just when I thought Tom was acting a little more civil! What good does it do to get mad at someone if you won’t even let them know why? Glad you are going to keep going like nothing is wrong. (((Hugs)))

Heather, glad today is writing day. Go girl!!! I’m laughing too about your DH’s pump switched off…no actually about him being “DIY challenged”, cause my DH is too. Gotta love ‘em though.

KJL, I’m with you this week on wishing it was Friday. That would mean my cruise was tomorrow. :p

Carol GA, thanks, I am crossing my fingers for good weather on the cruise. I can have fun if it’s not, but it’s soooo nice when it is warm and sunny. Year before last, the seas were rough enough that we had to miss one port where they tender you from ship to shore. Thanks to all of you who have sent good wishes for the cruise. I will actually think of you often even though I probably won’t check in.

Anna, I moved to NE La my senior year in high school from south Texas. I couldn’t even understand my teachers as they had such thick southern accents. Then some months later I heard the folks from south LA talk and really couldn’t understand them. It’s hard to believe it’s the same state. Your cruise sounds wonderful. How long is your drive to the Galveston port?

Terri, I’ll send ocean breeze vibes to all of you every day on the cruise. I hope they are having a Super Bowl party Sunday. I’m taking my Carolina Panthers tee shirt to wear. So proud of you for not eating when you were awake during the night.

Lisa, welcome! We always have room for one more person that is interested in a healthy lifestyle. As I’m sure you can see, this is a great place for support and information, so come often.

Katla, I hope your DH likes his new doctor. Well, and you too. Lol

Miriam, good work on the work outs!!! Keep it up.

Heather, good for you on the writing. smiley-angelic005.gif I had put my boots away for the day so I’m extra glad I didn’t have to get them out.

m1277.gifto any Newbies that I missed. Come often and join in the chat. This thing works!! Please sign your post with what you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to respond to you. Also a location is great, be it specific or general. We are happy to have you join us.

It must be the week for bursitis? Mine is really acting up. I didn’t sleep well last night because of it. I’m taking it easy these last three days before the cruise to give my low back and hips a chance to heal. I sure don’t want to be stove up and not able to get around well. Will try on the last few things and prepare them to pack. Everything finally goes in the luggage Friday. Only 3 days, but who’s counting? t57009.gif

I hope all of you have a healthy and happy day. You ladies are great! rose.gif

    Words I live by:
Savor. I have to slow down and savor every bite.
    and
Opportunity. Each day offers new opportunities for good health and happiness if we just look for them and choose them.

Rori thanks for the app information.

KJ thanks for the laugh. I never had a home day care, but I was a nanny for a number of years to three young boys who were dropped off at my house at 6:30am. Reminded me of some of the interesting mornings we had as my two sons were younger then too.

Went to the doctor this morning. While I had fessed up to you all about my creeping weight gain, Doctor hadn't seen me for 6 months ... Well, she knows now.
Back at it. She gave me antibiotics for my crud ... Chronic sinus situation always exasperates the crud.

    Welcome to the new ladies!

    Woot! Woot! Go Heather!

Oh bother. I'm sitting here at work fighting the urge to go raid the vending machine. I got a phone call that my credit card had a possible fraudulent charge on it. I called the company and it was indeed a fraudulent charge. They are taking care of it and have cancelled my card. I should have a new one tomorrow so no big problems over it but now I want chocolate. I know this is stress eating rearing its head and not hunger. Stress eating is a flipping hard habit to break. Must sit at my desk for 15 min. before I give in to the urge to go eat. If I still want food after that I will re-evaluate the situation.

Mia, glad you worked out that it was fraud. That is when I would want to eat, too, but it would be ICE CREAM! My bad gastric reflux cured me from chocolate addiction. For years I was so miserable when I ate it that I just lost the taste, most of the time. A blessing in disguise!

DJ, We will miss you terribly while you are funning and sunning.

Beth, that is basically what I did when I say I had an in home day care- took care of a few other kids. I never had more than about 8 in addition to my three, and that was usually before school, after school or summers. Out in Idaho you don't see the word nanny used much. I had three that lived across the street from us- and they would usually come right back over when their parents took them home. And I had another friend's two, a baby girl and her older brother that everyone said was such a terror. He was fine at my house but I kept the kids busy with crafts, learning activities, hikes, etc. It helped pay the bills but I really didn't make very much.

Sylvia, your outing sounds like so much fun!

    hey peeps, real quick.
the pic of my dog looking over his shoulder smiling at me? that is Rocky, my first. he is in dog heaven... I miss him dearly, he was a therapy dog that I used to take to visit patients at our local hospital. that's why I gave Bullwinkle her name.
I am glad that I'm lifted from weight restriction! now I have stopped using my backpack when riding, and have gone to using panniers, so I can lift the bike and the panniers onto the train.
    have a good one peeps

    Hi gals,

Alison – that DH of yours needs to go back to kindergarten and learn to speak clearly and own his words.

    Lisa in DC – welcome

Heather – Congrats! And thanks for the Avgolemono idea, I have never had it, but had someone ask about greek cooking… and this would be very do-able. I do imagine that really good broth is the ticket to a good soup.

KJL – I smiled at the day care dad story, so did you give that 3 year old a few lollypops to lick and stick on the seats in Daddy’s car???

Good Wednesday from snowy Nebraska. Well yesterday we got about half a block from home and had to walk the rest of the way. Then DH and I went out and moved snow for a couple hours. Got most the driveway and front steps cleaned. Then the neighbor across the street helped DH get the truck unstuck and back in the driveway. This morning he just gave it *** and we got out and to an open road so could get to work. Because of the wind city shut down the plows until this morning. Last I heard we have 18 + inches of snow. Know they have more out East, but this is a record for us and a pain. Good thing is I worked off the extra calories I ate yesterday, I hope. Today most the doctors offices are closed so everyone calls the hospital for everything. Busy!

    Sue--Happy B-lated birthday.

Allison--Glad your kidney report went well. Take care and stay resting until you feel better.

Miriam--Love the kitty dress and what an neat idea. I would think that would be so much more comfortable for them.

Karen & Lenora--Sending prayers and hugs.

Pip--Glad both doctor appointments went well.

Well I am caught up and have a bad headache. I guess I am working tomorrow as the *dear boss* can't get out yet. She lives with her parents and his business is snow removal. What ever. Then I should have Friday off and maybe Saturday. My friend who lost her husband last summer is snowed in and can not even open any of her outside doors. So my DOS was going to go over and see what he can do to dig her out and if he is not all done DH and I will go over when we get off. I am hoping DS gets it all done. Well ladies take care and sorry I am such a WIMP about the snow. I don't mind a little but 18+ inches and drift taller then me I nuts.

Hi, been a few days since I was up here. I have been very good about reading the posts and recording my food/exercise. I had a scare this weekend - was in the hospital for a possible heart attack. Fortunately it was not a heart attack, but found that one of the ventricles is not getting enough oxygen. Cardiologist gave me meds and recommended that I keep working to loose weight. So my February goals are:
    1. record everything that goes into my mouth
    2. to walk on the treadmill everyday and work with the weights twice a week (okay'd with doc to start this on Monday)
    3. drink 10 to 14 glasses of water a day
    4. to reduce caffeine intake

Even with all that has happened I lost an additional 1.8 lbs, now down 7 lbs.

Welcome to all of the newbies... I have only posted a couple of times, but I read this site every day. It does provide lots of inspiration and support to everyone.

    Marti :)
