Wahoo sell dual Ant+/bluetooth speed/cadence and HR sensors, but they may need a bluetooth bridge for a laptop, alternatively they also sell an ANT+ dongle for iphones which may work for you if you are after connectivity.

I use a Suunto Ant+ plug in my PC with a mix of Wahoo and Garmin sensors and a kickr which sometimes needs a USB cable attached to get good connectivity but is msmall enough to leave in my laptop full time.

@AmandaDanceMore As far as programs go, Trainerroad or Zwift on PC are pretty good, although TR does require you to buy the videos from the video makers (Sufferfest or Col Collective etc.) or watch TV otherwise you will go mad.

On Apple devices Trainerroad, Fulgaz, Kinotrainer are all pretty good, and the new Sufferfest app seems to be unstable, judging by the Tour of sufferlandria facebook group.

For logging most of the websites (strava/trainingpeaks etc.) will take the data from Garmin's or the programs/apps mentioned above and can calculate distance, but a measure like trainingpeak's TSS is a better tracker as the resistance can be way off what you get on the road. On my kickr I regularly average 50km/h for a 1-2hr workout depending on which gear I use it in, while on the road that is a flat out sprint.

@AmandaDanceMore - when I upgraded on my road bike to apps I took my old wired computer and put the magnet on the rear tire instead of the front. Works great and I'm still able to see all info it does. This helps me adjust the tension so I know the speed and feel of the stroke to get a more outdoor type of workout.

Welcome to all the new comers... happy riding!

One word of caution, Strava's virtual power (VP) estimator can be as good as stab in the dark. For indoors, you cannot select the type of trainer used as some manufacture have published resistance curve(s) that approximate steady state riding using speed as a correlation to power output. For outdoor use, VP can be more than useless depending on the ride's environment (how much of a deviation from the environment, e.g. rider's weight, bike's weight, wind, slope, temperature, road surface, rolling resistance, etc, in which the resistance curve was developed).

Having TSS (training stress score) by itself is a useless construct without knowing your FTP (functional threshold power), chronic training load (CTL), acute training load (ATL), and training stress balance (TSB). Anyone that want to start training with a power meter should read "Training and Racing with a Power Meter" as a starting point. An understanding of Banister's Impulse-Response model (TRIMP) would go a long way also.

    Jan: 864.79 km (537.35 miles) = 65 hours 36 min

February has fewer days to work with, and it looks like it will be a very busy month with events, travelling, and starting my next course at uni, so I'll aim for about 48 hours of exercise. :)
    So far ... no cycling.

I did a 200 km randonnee on Jan 30th and haven't been back on my bicycle since. That's partly because I'm recovering and partly because I've been very busy since then. But I should commence riding again soon. :)

Yes, I'm still here!! But my husband and I have been away so I haven't been entering things. That's us in my avatar. :)

We went to the mainland, to Warrnambool, Victoria. When we lived in Victoria, we visited that area several times and like it, so we decided to take a few days and go back again. :)

    Here's the story:

Make sure you seat height is adjusted correctly. The knees should be slightly bent when the peddle is at the six o'clock position. Avoid platform saddle if possible (find narrower seats), they are not comfortable in the long run as they get in the way/restrict rotation of the hips. As weird as it seems, stiffer saddles provide more support and are more comfortable the longer you stay on the saddle. Avoid rocking of the hips. Keep your shoulders, neck, and hands (play air piano) relaxed. Your arms should not be used to bear much of the weight but used as a stabilizer. Keep the back as straight as possible (not to be confused with the incline slope, bending at the hips). If possible adjust your reach to avoid hitting the knees. Work on being comfortable with high cadences. It's much easier on the knees when exerting higher power output (aka, faster). Try to keep you knee/leg peddling inline and not bowling in/out of the vertical plane. Stay hydrated and get as much air flow across the body as possible. If you are wearing cycling shorts, keep that as the layer that first touches the skin. Have fun and remember "it never get easier, you just go faster."
