    There is a Buddhist saying I came across years ago. It goes something like this:
    “Do not mistake the finger pointing at the moon for the moon itself”

    A more poetic way of saying this is:

    A finger
    pointing at the moon
    is not the moon.
    It is a finger...
    pointing at the moon.

    What does that mean? Don't mistake words or teachings or concepts for the thing itself.

    As a lover of science, I am cognizant of what this means in respect to science. For all that science has done for us, it is still only our current understanding of reality. Some people seem to think science is telling them exactly what reality is like, but this is not so.

    In the quote above, I think of Science as the finger and reality as the moon.
    Don't mistake the finger for the moon.

    My older brother tried to explain that to me when I knew addition but not multiplication. He asked what 2 x 3 would be. I said 5. He said, "No, it's 6."     I’ve seen so many videos of kids trying to figure out how to use old rotary phones.

    I was talking to an older woman I had just met at the DMV while getting my license renewed and we got on the subject of kids and phones. I caught my "old" self saying "we never had cell phones in High School and we were just fine" without them. Seeing this toy just brought back a flood of memories and an age jolt too!

    If I died today would people be upset I died because they loved me or because I’m not around to wait on them hand and foot when they need something?

    What an ungrateful little brat I was but when I walked out and saw the Datsun, I had to work hard to not bawl like a baby, it was so ugly.
    Mine looked like the photo but with the addition of a black and white checkered landau roof.
