Barbie - great coping with the legs vs weight lifting !!!!
Janetr - yeah, the water issues are very real here - and we are in the 5th year - so new habits and habitats are evolving... so while the flower pictures from my front are lovely, it is spring flowers and in the summer/fall there are some low water shrubs, bark and trees - this only happens because of rain. It's been an education! smiles

OK when I have mint gum in my mouth and sip my glass of lemonade drink (from a mix only 5 calories per 8 oz) it really gives me a suck punch! Like eating sour candy! hahahaha!
OK my husband now has my cold... Feel bad for the guy, but reality happens. I am trying to be supportive, not hover, yet tell him to stop the whining....
Well my turn out on the balcony for my vitamin D treatment.
I had too many nuts for my snack today, so I shall pay for it, with a minimal-istic looking dinner of 4 oz of tilapia and 3 potatoes with some light margarine. I shall steam the fish over the boiling water that holds the potatoes. Lots of spices on the fish is my plan.
Take care and have a nice Saturday!

Hi there. Hope this is how you post in the group! I am pretty new to this, though I have been on Fitness Pal off and on for a couple years. I'm 58 and just can't seem to take off the 15 lbs that appeared between November and January-looking for some motivation!
My April goal are to walk 7,000 steps a day, go to my Bar M class at least 3 times a week, and eat healthier.0 -
Kim it is not new. I am reading her 2014 edition. Not sure what she added to the new edition and what she may have revised.0

Welcome pkotterman- You are one of us now! (scared?) This is a great group of girls, join in whenever you are ready, remember to sign your post with whatever you wish to be addressed by, if pkotterman isn't your choice.
Larisa- Love the brain coasters! I wonder if you drilled a small hole through the center, if it would stop the cold glass glasses from sticking; you know relieve that pressure that the condensation would make... I would also use those coasters as wall art, though.
Heather- I have never tried brain. I am an adventurous eater, but that is something that I have not come across...except in a Hannibal Lecter movie I would try one if the dish/chef were highly rated or recommended.
Larisa, again- I know what you mean about the mfp "god" yelling at you when your don't reach recommended calorie goal. I fasted last year, every Sunday from the beginning of Lent to Thanksgiving, and got tired of getting yelled at, so I quit recording all together...not wise, but I am back.
Got about six inches of snow today. The sun is out now, melting some, but it is supposed to get cold and snow more tomorrow, then warm up a little mid week...to shovel or not to shovel, that is the question.0 -
stats for the day:
jog - 1hr 21min, 40sec, 139ahr, 172mhr, 5.2sp for 1st 2mi, 6.2-7.0sp for next 5mi, 5.2-5.4sp for last mi, 1# ankle weights for 1st 5mi, 10.12ap/min mi, 8mi = 805c
0 -
you know that 8mi that i just did? remember i said i was not going to think about speed, it was a struggle sometimes (the speed part) i only put it up to 8speed for a bit, it's usually the music that makes me want to, BUT i did do over a 10minute mile where i am usually under that so i guess you could say i succeeded0

Bridal shower was fun and they had great choices for eating healthy except the cupcake that I ate. It was wonderful not going to lie. Lol. My daughter and her fiance had a wonderful time and we're so happy.

Kim,the bad thing about a monetary fine for going over the allowed water ration, is that is is terribly punitive for ordinary people who are highly punished by a $100.00 fine and no big deal for the rich people who keep watering their massive lawns and gardens0

Kim – What type of plant is around the iris; it doesn’t have the leaves of an iris (which is a fan); and the flowers are in a cluster. Looks like a geranium; but, I don’t think they come in ‘blue’.
kdlmoore216 – WOW! Twins – girls. My DYS got married last May and while we were out there, every night, I dreamed of twins; a girl and a boy. DDnL#2’s gone to a ‘specialist’ because her uterus is tipped and if and when she gets pregnant; they’ll have to put a couple of stitches in her cervix. Oooooh, that sounds painful. She’s a cosmetologist and the medication she took, made her hair start breaking off and falling out; so she stopped taking it. She’s ovulating, that is a proven … he’s been checked; and, they are just waiting before they commit to something as drastic and expensive as in vitro fertilization; and, he told her that he’d have to do some minor procedure (costly) that ‘may’ or ‘may not’ work. Since they have not been married a year – he said they needed to wait until then. We are praying for a pregnancy; but, not necessarily twins. My first friends when I was young were a pair of twins. Our mothers were BFF. They said they were ‘identical’; but, one had blond hair the other had brown hair. They did look like sisters; and, their mother always dressed them alike. About 5th grade; one wanted to dress differently, the other did not. So after the first one got dressed for school, the other one would change her outfit. A lot of people could not tell them apart; but, as a child and as an adult I had/have no problem. They’re still a ‘blond’ and ‘brunette’ and still look like sisters and not twins. Their mother was bigger around her waist than she was tall. She was only about 5-feet tall.
Vickil57 – Probably the most difficult thing is when you change things; there will be some pushback. That is to be expected for so many reasons; but stay your course and they will realize that you are just making their jobs a lot easier. Sounds like your former supervisor did things to try to mess things up to attempt to make himself ‘irreplaceable’. Some people do that sometimes. Hopefully, he won’t be ‘over’ you and not willing to see your changes. I’m sure you’ll do great! My DDnL#1 'thinks' she is 'irreplaceable' ... and with her mouth, one day she's going to get 'fired' for insubordination. She's already been sent home for being on FB during working hours. She 'hates' her job; and her 'bosses'; but, really does not want to have to 'start over at a lower pay scale'.
Barbiecat – Goals and Resolutions. I like the definition of both. Resolutions become a life-style change; goals can be made to be too difficult to obtain, making you feel like you’ve failed before you start.
Betty – Only gains for money or new friends and family.
Beth – Sometimes young men have a goal (or resolution as Barbiecat calls it) and they set them; and, are confident they’ll achieve them. When DSY had to drop out of school for getting caught with an open container violation [because he’d throw them into the bed of his truck] … not necessarily drinking while driving (although I am sure he did it on occasion). He had to come home and stay out of college for a quarter/semester and we made him ‘get a job’ (again - had one in HS to pay for his vehicle). After working for someone on an hourly basis … he decided that he wanted to become a Wildlife Biologist so he could get a job and hunt, fish, and work outside. His boss, another avid hunter/fisher, told him that there were 2 colleges that were the best. Pennsylvania and at Mississippi State; he did not want to go ‘up north’ so he went to MSU. Out-of-state tuition and he had to make all his arrangements for school himself. He matured greatly for that experience. We did help some with his living expenses. He got his first job after going to a ‘job fair’ when he was still a Junior; but, turned it down because he ‘knew we would kill him’ if he ‘dropped out of school getting that far along’. Man told him to come back to the fair the next year and he’d guarantee him a job. Lived in Missouri for a while, then Texas. Back in Missouri and felt like he’d always be an ‘underling’; so boss introduced him to someone in Mississippi; and, he’s been there since; although he doesn’t still work for same boss. But, he’s kept in touch with his professors, his first boss, his last bosses; and now he ‘loves’ his 5 bosses. They treat him very well; and, they all love his ‘new’ wife.
drkatiebug – Glad your program went well. My sister can ‘quote’ just about any verse in the Bible. She has the ‘gift’ of interpretation. When we go to the Women’s Retreat, she can always come up with a reading that is ‘specific’ to what someone has said. She got me to read the Bible (something I had never done in my life); by getting a daily Bible and reading it that way. So much easier to do ‘in spurts’. I've read it through twice. Now, my DH has a Bible that is a ‘teaching’ Bible and I plan to start it when the ‘new’ year starts. I’ve done something on “My Bucket List”. Gives me courage to try other things on my list.
I love my 2015 ‘new’ Honda Accord. Bought it right before the 2016's came out and got a great deal on it. I did not get the GPS in it because we had it in my 2009 Honda and rarely used it. The prior people ‘must’ have taken it to Utah; no matter what we entered into it, it’d tell us ‘if possible, make a “U” turn at the next left’. It drove me batty; so we did not bother even trying to add anything. I wish I had taken it to the dealership to get them to somehow erase all the others. It did allow me to discover the name of the previous owner and I called and asked about the car and why he traded it. Told me that within a month of buying it, his wife became pregnant and with 2 other children did not have the needed room for baby stuff when traveling. But, I LOVE my new one with the back-up camera, right lane blind spot camera and great mileage. My previous one was a 6-cylindar; but, decided to buy the 4-cylindar because it still had a ‘lot of pep’ and got much better gas mileage. Husband was the first to drive it on a trip. Dealership had filled it up; and we only put another $75 of gas in it to drive to Louisiana and back. DH has ‘forgiven’ me for not buying another 6-cylindar. And it will probably be my ‘last’ vehicle.
You might not have had your Fitbit on; but, you did exercise – so count how long it took you to do so. Don’t be ‘whiny’ … you still have done your walking exercise. Maybe you can put it down if you have been walking the same 3 miles. And regardless of your decisions about your sister – I still ‘like’ you. You have to sometimes say, ‘no, can’t do it at the moment’. Niece (if she is her child) needs to do as much as possible for your sister until you get there without being expected to change YOUR plans.
Heather – I agree that self-respect is a wonderful thing. Just as in other matters of life; you have to think ‘positive’ to ‘get positive’ and especially to ‘stay positive’.
Our Jasmine (yellow flowers) blew over in our last storm a couple of weeks ago; growing over a trellis and is huge (actually 4 plants). Did not break any of them; and DH has a brace tied to it and ratcheted it up using the cedar tree in the yard, not far away.
MightLolo – Ten lbs is a lot heavier than I thought it would be. I’m glad that I am starting off slower and with lighter kettlebell; and, then I can move up.
Brains? I cannot even ‘stomach’ liver. There are a lot of things that I’d have to NOT know I was eating, to eat them. DH’s grandmother used to ‘cook anything they killed’ (except armadillos and rats). What are they ‘called’ in a restaurant so that I won’t ‘think’ it is a ‘new’ dish and decide I want to try it.
Cheri – MFP yells at me most of the time; but, I am on a ‘low caloric intake’ for me to be able to lose weight due to the medications I have to take. High energy level; and, I have been walking 50 minutes with dog. DH finally mowed my ‘paths’. After he mowed them, I realize how high it had gotten and I am thankful that I never ran into any snakes … I would have been ‘walking on the top of the grass’ if I had. They’re just now coming out; weather has a lot to do with it … and massive rain storms as well.
Lilllian in WCS – I ‘face-planted’ myself (like Taylor Swift, only on my side). My wrist got caught by the belt and it rubbed off the top layer of skin on it (on the inside). I’m sure that with the wrist bandage I was wearing – people were trying to ‘guess’ what caused it. Had to keep it bandaged, so it would not scar – Neosporin and gauze around my wrist for 2 weeks. Changing it daily. On my right wrist, so it was a little difficult to bandage left-handed.
Janetr OKC – We have a well; of course, there is a electric pump to it; but water usage is not something we have to deal with; garbage is $125 a year (I still think they are charging us for our son’s garbage can; the rest we burn in a burn pile (old tractor wheel rim). We pay $18 for the pole barn; and about $240 on average for the electricity. That’s the biggest bill we get for utilities. It is highest during August (hottest month) and January or February (usually our coldest one).
Becca – If one of our DGDs gets ‘sick’; not only does it run through their household, it also runs through ours. Mainly, because “Little Bit” comes down here as soon as she ‘feels’ good; not when she is ‘well’ enough. GGGGrrrrr!!!!! Sometimes I just tell her that her Papa is ‘in the shower, and "no" she can’t wait for him to get out’. RITFLMAO – ‘not a dog’ … !!!!!
KJL – Snow today? Where do you live? It’s sunny here, mildly windy; warm enough to walk in short sleeves; we’ve had rain for the last 3 days or more. Ground is soggy! Couldn’t make my trip up and down the gas easement; but, still walked 50 minutes with Cracker. She loves it outside. PetSmart washed her Monday AM with ‘de-skunking shampoo’ and she does not have that ‘sour wet doggie smell’. I think clipping her also helped. Vet told me to keep her clipped to her ‘undercoat’ and we’d probably not have the odor. Normally, she has a wiry broken coat. She checked her for any kind of possible skin issues. That was good, and gave her the 1st of 2 boosters for rattlesnake bites. Cracker now knows she is the "Princess" of the house. She still smells really good as of today and she's been outside running around every day since (except not in the rain).

Lisa: I hope you like your trip to the big city. The auction didn't sound like it would appeal to me, either. :noway:
Saltymama: Welcome! You have stumbled into a group of women who will support you every step of the way on your journey to better health.
Mighty Lolo: If you lie to your food diary, you are only lying to yourself. You don't have to keep your diary open to others. I have mine set to private. Nobody sees it but me, and I can look back through it and see how my choices are working out. :noway: I have to admit that I don't look back often but I do sometimes and appreciate the ability to see what made me feel good or not so good.
Noreen & KalliZiegler: Welcome! :flowerforyou:
We have a pretty day today, and it has been a good one for me. It started out with my riding lesson this morning, which went well and then morphed into a trail ride with my teacher and another woman she teaches. WAHOO! The woman wanted to trailride to help her get her own horse past nervousness. I got a lovely treat because of it. Three of us going on the trail gave her horse the comfort of two companions and that helped ease the fears of both the horse and student. I got the pleasure of good company and being on the trail on a pretty spring morning.

April Resolutions :
1. Log every bite and swallow.
2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week. Work on flexibility and back strength.
3. Have fun every day.
4. Drink at least three glasses of water daily, preferably more!
5. Monitor sleep. Try to average 7 or more hours of sleep nightly.

Lenora~ Well, I suppose it goes to show you that husband and I have a close relationship, lol! You need to put a huge bottle of disinfectant hand solution by the door and tell her to use it before coming in! My husband grabbed a cute Disney themed mask he told me I should wear... (a bit too late though). Your DGD would probably use it cause its fun to wear and loop around her ears!

Hi gals,
Barbie – you are correct, however the fines continue to grow, they published folks bills with just the city listed in the paper last year and there was one home in a wealthy area with $3K in fines – for one month!!!
Lenora – that is an herb called Borage, the flowers are edible they taste like cucumber, I add them to my salad a cup is only 19 calories – and I only put 1/8 of a cup max.

Thank you ... For all the prayers and good thoughts for son's audition. I got a call afterwards that "it couldn't have gone better." He nailed his pieces and the instrumental sight readings. He was asked, even after explaining his inexperience with singing, to sight read for vocals as well. As expected since he has no vocal training, he did ok with that. Evaluators were enthusiastic in their praise! Told him they would "love" to have him. Now we wait for an acceptance letter and hopefully a scholarship. I am so thankful he was able to perform at his best ... No migraine ... No anxiety ... Nothing to regret!
KJ ... We're getting snow now...
Diary ... I've been guilty of lying to the food diary ... Such a dumb idea ... It's a throwback to childhood sneak-eating. Today I'm going to be under calorie goal and I will have logged everything! And I will be up all night as I drank 8-8oz glasses of water for the first time in a long while....
Measuring food ... Someone ... Becca?? ... Asked how to pack carrots and potatoes into 3/4 cup. I rarely use measuring cups because I can really, really push the bounds of packing ... So I weigh everything! Less room for error.
Heading to bed early tonight ... The worry-dance this afternoon wore me out!

I made it!!! I logged every swallow and came in slightly under the calorie goal. Husband is sitting beside me eating his chips and drinking his pepsi. I am too happy with the feeling of success to feel tempted. (HA! That won't last, but it feels good now.)0
-
Okay I feel like I need to restate/clarify.
I only ate 800 calories yesterday, and was exhausted and just wanted to go to bed and not deal with the message that I hadn't eaten enough. I didn't sneak eat; I didn't lie to myself; I haven't consumed anything since starting MFP, that I haven't logged.
I'm feeling like I should have kept my mouth shut about the whole thing. I was just trying to be honest with you all.

Did an hour of the Kelly Coffee meyers 30 minutes to fitness DVD (did two workouts). The plan for tomorrow is to do a Bodyflow 63 DVD
Again, I just can't go back to sleep. So I did a little work on the beaded banner, have to add some more thread so I'm waiting for the glue on the knot to dry, so I'm here now.
Noreen - wonderful goal! I was really surprised to find that weight loss is really 80% diet and only 20% exercise. I honestly thought it was higher.
Kalli - welcome!wow - a 15 min mile. And you say that's not fast????
Larisa - how DARE MFP not know how many calories are in pushing a 75lb garden arbor. Well, in their defense, I don't even know what a garden arbor IS.
janetr - thank you for answering Joyce's question on here. I didn't even know that there were different types of Baptists. Then again, I'm Catholic so I don't know much about Baptists.
Alison - I hate to see you in such a relationship. Breaks my heart.
Need to go to AC Moore today. They have a 55% off coupon good only for today. I want to get Jess 2 more boxes of fondant for the wedding cake. If she doesn't use them, I know I can return them. I also would like to get a new bundt cake pan. So Vince will probably go in with me
Sleepyscribbler - welcome! I don't think you're the oldest person here, but we sure enjoy having you. I'm so sorry to hear about your husband and your son.
Made these strawberry bars to take to the lady who is making Jess' dress then I made chocolate cupcakes for Vince. I put silken tofu in place of the oil. Shhh...don't tell Vince or he'll never eat them. I was going to make these zucchini chocolate cupcakes, but I didn't have any zucchini and I knew Vince would never take me to the store to get it, so I made these cupcakes from a box mix (yuk) that I had.
Anne - have fun at the shower. We're going up to VA next weekend for the shower of the girl who I'm making the wedding cake for. Later - glad you had a good time at the shower. It's not something that happens every day.
jodyogrady - welcome! Congrats on the fantastic weight loss so far.
Cheri - yea for you reaching your steps, but what a way to do it!
It's not too windy so I may put down weed killer on our sidewalk to the front. We will need to put down the paversand, but the weeds need killing first, that makes it so much easier to pull them out. I won't need much weed killer. Then I think I'll work on that banner some more (can't go in the pool yet...booo)
Update: Vince decided we'd go to ACMoore. I think he's getting used to the stores and where things are....lol
I have to lector at the church tonight and want to go to Bi-Lo before (or I told Vince we can go tomorrow after I count the collection money, but he wants to go tonight) to get marshmallows (they're on sale and I have a coupon thanks to my going to Food Lion yesterday). Update: I just found out that they don't double competitor's coupons!
KJ - congrats on going back to school. Sounds like something for you. You can keep the snow...thank you very much
Karen in KC - when I wore a pedometer, it used to count a step when I'd pull down my pants to go to the bathroom (and at the rate I drink water, I was constantly in there)
Lenora - I think the main reason I was so bound and determined to be home for my children was because I didn't have anyone home for me.
saltymamma - welcome! you CAN do this
Larisa - my husband has bought lots of things from Think Geek. As I recall, Jess showed us one time about putting a bit of salt under the drink glass and then it didn't stick to the coaster.
pkotterman - welcome! What's a Bar M class like?
Beth - so happy for your son!

If you don't click the green box at the bottom of your food diary that says "Complete this entry", then you won't see the message from MFP that tells you that you've eaten too few calories.0
-
Larisa - sorry we went over board - we all have our own demons about eating and some times we just go off the deep end! it wasn't judging you just us voicing our own worries/ fears....

My response to diary logging was just that ... My response. Sadly, I have lied to myself, I do sneak eat and I have consumed things that I haven't logged. I give you great credit for being honest and disciplined. The MFP message is annoying (although I rarely see it!)
What often happens on this thread is that a subject ... Like the diary ... Elicits all sorts of responses and often gets away from the original poster's intent. Sorry you felt misunderstood.

Thank you for those kind responses. I'm sure my frustration will pass as soon as something shiny catches my eye.
I'm really enjoying this forum so much, and would like to be accountable to you all if that's cool.
