    Today it was supposed to be a long run but I was feeling tired from yesterday and slept all day so did only around 6 km. Very very slow. Now I go to sleep again.

    Nominal Challenge Goal – 100 miles
    Real Goals: Recover from injury to the point where running feels normal again. Stretch goal, recover to the point where I can run at race pace.

    Today's notes – Got up earlier than my body wanted to get to church, and ended up needing a nap after church. Then as I slowly started getting ready to run, a thunderstorm arrived. Well. Check the weather, and it's a front coming through. Clear behind, then more thundershowers this evening. Okay. Got out to run a bit past 3:30, at a reasonable 70° F (21° C) with an unreasonable level of humidity.

    The plan was to run between 7 and 8 miles, paying attention to how my recovering leg felt. It felt better than it has since Boston. For the first two miles, I had to pay close attention to feel that it wasn't totally normal. The minor sensation in the hip abductor didn't rise to the level of "ache" until 3.4 miles or so. I happened to get to 5 miles right at the top of a hill, and followed my protocol of taking a gel; the consequence of that was I was messing with storing the empty packet on the downhill instead of paying attention to form. My leg let me know that it was *not* totally recovered, and downhill running still requires some care. By the time I hit 6 miles, I knew I was going to go home the most direct way for about 7.4 miles, and not stretch it any closer to 8 miles.

    The good: I was able to run a normal-length Sunday run, after running on Saturday. More of the run felt like normal running than like I was babysitting an injured hip abductor.

    The bad: The leg didn't feel quite as good when I finished as it did yesterday. While I finished, and I was fine after stretching, the idea of running another mile on that leg seemed pretty dubious late in the run.

    It's progress, and I'll take it. Feeling normal for more of the run than not really outweighed the uncomfortable humidity on the scale of enjoyment.

    @louubelle16 - Congratulations on conquering that hill! You can get a better water bottle, you can work on pace control (though some variability is to be expected on a hilly route), and you can do something to deal with the sun; but nothing can change the fact that you ran that hill.

    Don't know what to say about the jerks in the van. There probably isn't a good thing to do to get rid of them, if they don't get bored and stop harassing runners.

    I also made it out between thunderstorms today and ran in not too hot but super humid weather. It was like a rain forest. I ran 5.25 miles at a pretty slow pace. I had to walk up a tough and muddy hill - which reminds me @louubelle congrats on conquering your hill!

    My foot isn't playing fair yet. I think I get some biking in and give it more time to recover. Been a problem since April 24th. :frowning:
    Surgery in 37 days. :scream: I was hoping to capitalize on the time in the heat for cardiovascular gains. I'd like to still have a chance to place in my AG in November with a sub 2 time or least PR, 2:17:28 current.

    Church, light lunch, nap, 7 mile run, 20 min stretching and rolling :smiley:

    Ran a 1.75 mi warmup (10:28 pace including a short walk to start). Started a new activity on my Garmin to mark off 5k for the Batten disease awareness virtual 5k I signed up for. 8:56 pace for the 5k :smiley: Then I refilled my water bottle and ran 2.15 mi cool down (10:48 pace including a little walking and snapping a few pics).

    It was 79 degrees but humidity dropped off to 48%. Still hot but feels different with lower humidity. I drove 15 min to run around a little lake. It's 1.75 miles around and the back half is all shade although the rest is full sun and it was sunny. Wore my hat. I felt well prepared and happy with how I handled the heat again.

    @elise4270 Sorry your foot still isn't right :neutral:

    @louubelle16 Way to go on that hill!

    Regarding family life and running... I was fit when I met my husband but quickly let myself go to pot. Spent 7 years very overweight and out of shape then 5 years ago turned myself back around. For some reason the running bothers my hubby more than anything else. He often praises me but just as often expresses concern and dislike of my running. He feels I'm in a special club that he's not part of. I don't even run that much and run alone. But have family and friends who run. I don't spend much time talking about running outside this forum. But it sure bothers him. He's into golf :wink:
