People say if there is a god why are so many people in the world suffering still?
I say that's probably down to man being greedy and nothing to do with God
The conflicting drives of greed and cooperation are in our DNA. Those were created by evolution and natural selection. We are what we are. If we recognize that then we can improve ourselves and society within the confines of our humanity. Believing in gods and fate only serve to put us off the track of science and progress and back on the track of superstition.
One of the results of such ignorance is to allow others to manipulate us into thinking there's something better on the other side, so we are willing to sacrifice our lives and efforts for their purposes. After a religious upbringing and years of internal conflict I just do not understand why so many people hold on to these systems of belief for so long. I guess they do give some people hope, but I'd rather see people replace hope and proselytizing with work towards real progress.
In any event, if there is a god (leaving open the possibility for the sake of argument) then one must decide which one to worship and who's interpretation of such god is correct. I don't see anything at all to base such a decision upon, so it's all a leap of blind faith in something unknowable. It seems to me that making that decision to believe and pushing one's beliefs regarding something that cannot be subject to proof are awfully arrogant things to do. I'd rather embrace the limits of my own knowledge (agnosticism) and work within the system of science and technology to the extent of my ability to understand. Those are things that have improved and extended our lives.
^ then again those are the rantings of a middle aged man and WTF do I know . . .7 -
I believe less in the fate of the individual and more the fate of people of a whole, every person's existence weaving together like a... blanket, or something. Blanket destiny? And then there's a small subset of people, inventors of the important *kitten* the rest of us use like computers and immunizations to improve the blanket. I probably sound like a crazy person oh well.1

Anybody else find it a bit odd that we can discuss believing in God or not, but the mere mention of Trump v Hilary and the thread is gone in a flash? Religion = Good, Politics = Bad. Got it!5

Nope, this will be poofed as well now that it's turned to religion as it should be. Someone just had to report it. Not sure why it went from "fate" to "faith".
Politics and religion are both against TOS.3 -

If the thread was titled "God: fact or fiction?" it would be deleted in a second. Since the discussion is buried in a "fate" thread, it will only be locked once someone reports it, or until a mod stumbles upon it. Only a matter of time.0 -
Beginning to wish I'd never started the thread I just thought it was a interesting thing to discuss
I never mentioned religion because I'm not religious

All I know is that the thought that my ideas, opinions and decisions may not be my own or are controlled by some outside source brings me all kinds of anxiety. Thanks OP.0

Some people, erroneously, connect "fate" with God. They are not mutually exclusive. One can feel that the energy of the universe provides a current that they can either flow with or paddle against. In that respect, fate can co-exist along with free will without the existence of a deity. And the existence of a deity could be one that allows total free will, and not predetermination.
So...
yeah.

Well I think your ideas and thoughts are your own but I'd like to think that at times 'fate, the universe or whatever interviens to help you out. Some might call it good luck or good fortune of course bad stuff happens as well but since I'm trying to remain positive I was focussing on the good stuff cos nobody likes bad stuff0 -

We live we die our spirits gets reincarnated into something else with no recollection of its past rinse and repeat the end
That's is one theory ..
I prefer to believe that God is in control of all things and that what is know as fate is his devine providence in our lives. Things happen for a reason and it is more than mere chance.
And you're okay of believing that? That you're God is so awesome and perfect that he created all things including lucifer and man and the tree of whatever it was? Sounds like he's playing you coz according to some Christians God knows all past present and future if that is true why did he create lucifer knowing he'll rebel later and why did he made man knowing they'll screw up later and why did he put the tree there in front of their faces and said don't eat it? that's likes dangling cake I'm front of a fat kid's face. In the end your perfect God isn't so perfect after all creating so much imperfect creation anyway that's my take on that deal
It's funny and sad that someone flagged this.0 -

Damned universe never did anything for me!
Well, except that I was born in an industrialized country to reasonably well educated parents, with a decent brain, and my health . . .
But other than that! I NEED free fries . . .3 -
