Cheri - So glad it's all going well. You have worked hard on your relationship and shown great patience.

D H was very quiet last night and feels as if he has let me down over the cruise, but I am pleased we decided not to go next year.
Penny, who lives in Svalbard, not Iceland, and whom I saw in June, is currently in the USA and hasn't posted for a while.

Off later this morning to my DSIL's M Sc celebration that she worked incredibly hard for.

My son is moving to Brighton /Hove today. I will be thinking of them. I've sent a card for today and flowers for tomorrow. About to send them a text.
I love Brighton. Anyone interested can Google it. The Royal Pavilion is amazing.

    Love Heather xxxxx

Well we got things straightened out for my DFIL ,and I will be there for the move..
whom ever asked about Tom and his dad, he does love him dearly ,they were not a demonstrative family, and he out of the 3 children left, is the only one that does care..with his hours at work very hard for him to do anything physically, but he is there every weekend to feed him breakfast.. he does appreciate all I do for his dad,
gonna be hot and humid on Sunday for the wedding.. but should be beautiful..
tomorrow will be busy, Homer goes to the groomer early and then the move for DFIL , i have found since this last move they dont get him out of bed until after breakfast.. they need a hoyer lift to get him in and out of bed

    morning again,
just back from feeding DFIL. I have told him about the move and he grasps it a little but tomorrow will be tough for him..saw his room yesterday and had a light bulb moment and stopped at the new nursing home today and warned them he always wants to go to work, the room they have him going into is right across from an outside door and he has the first bed, so he can see the door.. just wanted to give them the heads up... met the administrator , told him I remember him when he was a little guy as I worked for his dad... well I am set for work, laundry done

    Good morning all!
We have been back from Florida for just over 2 weeks and I have been struggling to get motivated to do anything.
I have been eating like I should... just not logging my food everyday.
I have also been running in my pool - equivalent of 1500 to 2000 yards or 15 to 20 football fields- and taking McKenzie on walks-about 2 miles total.
My weight is still the same. 218 to 220 no matter what I do or do not eat or how much exercise I get.
Very frustrated as I am sticking to my July goals for food intake and exercise.
I had thought that maybe my measurements would be smaller but, alas, they too are the same.
I will continue to eat healthy and exercise as it can only be good for me and hope it will start to make a difference in how my clothes fit, if not on the scale, soon.
Will try to get caught up a bit with all of your posts today...
Have been getting the last of the college forms and financial aid things taken care of for Xander as we go to Murfreesboro, NC for his freshman orientation this weekend. We will be spending Saturday night with my best friend in New Bern and hopefully Sunday will go to Emerald Isle for a few hours as my husband has never been there.
The medical bills for my dughter having McKenzie have come in and I am in a quandary on how to pay our portion ... which is much more than we were led to expect to pay. I have only just finished paying nearly 4000 for Marina's ACL surgery from 2 years ago and now have over 2000 in bills for her again. On top of college tuitions it is a bit of a juggle to make ends meet without using what is supposed to be my 401k investment money from my injured shoulder settlement I got in April.
Sorry so long and so depressing. I know, this too shall pass, but in the meantime it kinda sucks.
Good news is next weekend is my husband's 50th birthday party- the one he does not want and his mother has turned into a huge thing. He said he's going to make it a surprise party and surprise her by not showing up. I am looking forward to a day spent eating crabs and letting someone else do all the planning and paying for it for a change.

Well, my SIL wants me to go to a new thrift store with her so time to get dressed and head out the door.
Have a lovely wednesday... or Thursday depending on where you are!

Dawn in hazy, hot and humid Maryland... and loving it!

Cheri, so glad you got your house!!!!! I think just the act of packing up my house would keep me from ever moving. I would have to hire some one to organize me and do the keep/donate/throw away thing and then move. But I guess I would have to have some one else to unpack me and decorate. I don't blame you at all in keeping your yarn out. Enjoy your week off. Where in Indiana would you be coming to visit?
    Joyce, Indiana

I think packing up the house with the hubs this time around has made him think we may not move again. As a matter of fact he has mentioned more than once that if the rental home works out he may just remain in said rental. Otherwise this very exact time next year we will be moving again! My daughter is just like you. That is why when she moved to VA in June I went to Chicago and did all the organizing, packing etc. and then stayed in VA at her new rental apt. to get her entirely unpacked and set up otherwise she would still not be unpacked.

Joyce my parents, a brother and a sister live in Fishers. We lived in Carmel from 2004-2013. What is significant is that my husband has been estranged from my family for like ever. That he is willing to go to their home with me is just mind blowing at this point. It has been years (30+) of discord. I really blame it on him and my mother just not hitting off early on and then his Asperger attitude of black and white in all relationships did it all in. My family is dysfunctional (as many are) and I knew/know how to function within that dynamic however he had no tolerance for such relationships. Something clicked with him upon the death of his father 9 months ago about relationships. He has reconciled with his sister and husband after 7 years of silence. I mean like full on back in each other's lives! He suggested we stop on our way home from Chicago in June and have dinner with my family in IN (which by the way is not on the way home to Ohio). We had a wonderful dinner. Then completed our 5 hour drive home arriving after midnight. He has finally expressed his appreciation of all the support my father provides (financially and otherwise) through the years. Maturity. I could never have hoped that something like this would happen. Truly feeling blessed. His kids don't recognize his behavior as they are so used to him being difficult about relationships. Our son Ben might drive down from Chicago and visit with us and his grandparents while we are there.

Heading off to bed. Tomorrow is another day of....whatever you want!

Joyce – I don’t know when waist high jeans/slacks came back ‘in style’; but, here is one woman that is ‘thankful’ they did. I hate having something hanging on my hipbones.

Michele in NC – It’s been quite a while since I have cooked sweet potatoes at home; all I can say is ‘slowly’. Baked potatoes are usually going to be mushy when baked. Maybe not so much if you get the ones that look more like baking potatoes; and could eat the skin. The ones that are pointed at each end have a thicker coast and several layers to them.

    Ingredients

    •Sweet potatoes or yams

    Instructions:

    1. Put baking sheet lined with foil on the lowest rack of your oven. (Don't put the foil directly on the bottom of the oven.) This will catch any of the syrup that may escape from the sweet potatoes. For easy cleanup, simply remove the foil and throw it away after baking the sweet potatoes.

    2. Don't preheat the oven. Prick your sweet potatoes each 2-3 time with a fork, then place them directly on the oven rack in the middle of the oven, above the rack with the foil. Turn the oven on to 425.

    3. Bake for 45 minutes for sweet potatoes/yams that are 2-3 inches in diameter. For sweet potatoes that are up to 4 inches in diameter, bake for an hour. For super large sweet potatoes, bake for an hour and 15 minutes.

    4. After the time has elapsed, don't open the oven but turn it off. Let the sweet potatoes sit in the oven for at least 30 minutes but up to an hour. Remove from the oven and eat immediately.

    Baked Sweet Potato Fries:

    * 2 medium sweet potatoes, peeled (ones that look like baking potatoes (round ends)

    * 2 tablespoons good olive oil

    * 1 tablespoon light brown sugar

    * 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, plus extra for sprinkling

    * 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

(Add Checked Items to Grocery List)

    Directions:

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.

Halve the sweet potatoes lengthwise and cut each half into 3 long spears. Place them on a sheet pan and toss with the olive oil. Spread the potatoes in one layer. Combine the brown sugar, salt, and pepper and sprinkle on the potatoes. Bake for 15 minutes and then turn with a spatula. Bake for another 5 to 10 minutes, until lightly browned. Sprinkle lightly with salt and serve hot.

Remove the skin and store in a container in the fridge.

You can find a lot of different recipes on the Internet; some the same, some quite different.

Paula Deen is a good place to find some easy recipes that are good; since she has lost weight; I am pretty sure she has a way to make them low calorie.

I also don’t like the potatoes that have salt on them when baked. Sometimes you can ask the waiter to tell the cook not to put the sale on the outside of the potato; some can or will do it; but, if they do, do not add any salt to them … they’ll be salty enough.

Sounds like you and Vince are estranged from your son for unknown reason. We’ve been estranged from DH’s daughter (now for going on 10 years); but, we think it started when his mother was dying and she did everything to keeps us from seeing her. But, it did not stop us from going down; but, every time we did the A.L.F/nursing home called her and she’d show up and make the trips pretty strained. DMnL is now deceased; and she had gone in and removed approximately $20K out of DFnL’s lock box at the credit union with a POA with Nana right there with her at the time of his death. DH found out that she had gone in and wiped his box out and had gone 4x since the date of his death until the day after his funeral. She had her Daddy and his brother’s signature taken off her bank statements and co-mingled her money with hers. She even got her @$$ on her shoulders when a $3K insurance policy showed up specifically naming them and not her. So part of the estrangement was that she did not get the $1K she thought she was entitled to. She never made it convenient for them to be added as beneficiaries to the MONY mutual funds that they should have been entitled to; and changed the names of who was supposed to receive her jewelry and a picture I painted form my DMnL for a Christmas (the only reason I wanted it back was for me to sign it as the artist) and possibly get it reframed. I would not be surprised if she added her name as the artist and that is why she never sent it to me!

When the guys burn the land off, they use kerosene to do it and set it with the wind and they wet anything they don’t want to burn so it won’t spread. Then they set it up next to where the break in it, so that it burns towards the fire - it will then put ite4lt out! It makes our stand of pines (short needle) look great. They can take the burning a lot better than the long needle ones. It is the county extension office that determine if the weather conditions are right to burn in your area; and, winds can change over a period. You need someone out there and watch it all the time to watch for hot spots. I know several years ago DH and DOS tried to burn under some mixed trees in the back yard and one got to a tree stump that had been knocked over and was 'fire wood' in that it had petrified (good for kindling). It almost got 'out of hand' and I had to go down there with him, we finally got it under control.

My DDnL#2 has planned on getting her eye liner and lips re-tattooed; but DYS does not want her to do so. I asked her what was involved, how much it cost, etc. I’m not sure I would want my eyes my eyelids messed with. She says it last several years and it is great on those days you don’t have any time to put on make-up. I don’t know if she had it done or not. It doesn’t cost nearly as much to have it the 2nd one to be done. It causes a little swelling but it isn’t bad. She has to go out of town to get it done; and, only trusts this one person to do it. I’d love to get my brown done – I have very sparse eyebrows, if I could have them done in a light, light color. I think I would have to have a few drinks before I went.

Looking forward to our beach trips in about 2 ½ weeks with granddaughters. This year, so far, middle DGD has decided she’ll go with us. Last year, at the last moment she decided not the last moment not to go. No reason, so we just left her at home. Nothing worse than a teenager who does not want to go someplace with you. Planning on buying another flamingo to go with my collection of about 75. Hobby Lobby usually has a big selection of them, about this time of the year. I don’t get to see them this year, because I cannot drive. My DOGD made a 98 on one of her tests in 'physics' and the teacher is going to give her an extension to do a homework assignment because the Internet had gone off-line while she was doing it and before she could email it to her. She only made that decision this past week. At first she though that she was stalling; until other students had the same problem She's taking only this one subject during the summer and is at school 9 - 5 every day.

Only down to DOS’s house to pick up granddaughters when we had a bad storm here a few days ago. Thinking about going to get in the pool early today (before it gets too hot); then home to clean the house. Need to go back in and straighten my Marie Kondo drawers. I got a friend to go buy the “Spark Joy” to work on her house. She said she is in the ‘purge’ state and it has felt so good to throw out a lot of things they haven’t used in years. They have a grown daughter and two grandchildren living with them; and, they are ‘slobs’ as she says. She says that husband has the same trait; but, he got mad at dear daughter for leaving the dishes in the sink the other day. I don’t think they are ‘hoarders’ … maybe her husband is somewhat; but, she says that child and grandchildren are just very messy.

Need to go round up Cracker and go get in pool for my daily exercise. I lost one more pound; which was better than gaining or staying the same. Fat % had gone up; water % had gone down. These next two weeks I am going to try to stay on my plan; but, if we go out for ‘date night’ … I know it will be blown.

I had my eyebrows and eyeliner (both above and below my eyes) done about 6-7 years ago. I LOVE it. And I don't drink alcohol lol. I had a certified makeup Specialist do them, not a regular tatoo artist. There is a big difference.

Greetings to all. It’s actually nice here but we may have storms tonight. I have been so busy with a test bank that I have not gotten out and enjoyed anything this summer. Ugh! I need to consider accepting these things more carefully in the future.

All is quiet at our house. Benny is coughing more so I increased his prednisone. Don’t know if I told you but he had several seizures while we were gone but is now back to baseline except the cough. I increased his prednisone and we’ll see what happens.

Joyce: glad things seem to be going well after Charlie’s surgery. There are tons of choices in ostomy supplies these days.

Re: Wow you have a lot of things to consider! Thank you for sharing.

Cheri: congrats on the rental! You sound like you are a busy gal!

Lenora: well that’s something I hadn’t thought of…taking information off old pill bottles before throwing them away! Great idea!

DJ: Oh my I hope Pepper is better. Our vet is always good about being on time, but when Benny had his first seizure we went to the animal emergency vet and waited 2 hours with a dog that was not neurologically stable. I complained to the owners and the BBB. I’ll never go back there again.

Charleen: I agree…turn off that light!

Janet: I too will be following your monster killing directions!

Well ladies I have been writing this very short post now for over an hour and keep getting interrupted, so I am just going to sign off. I did read everyone’s posts! You all are so accomplished and so motivated it is motivating to me. I can’t seem to accomplish a thing. Take care all meg from Omaha

Happy Wednesday. Another week is flying by. Sounds like we are to get some rain today and that is fine, I am so tried of the heat. Working the 7-3:30 shift today and off tomorrow. DGD will be spending the day with me tomorrow and am looking forward to that.

    Meeting wit
h my boss went well. Talked about my problem person and he said he is going to take care of it, so will see.
Heather--I have an idea what is upsetting me and I am working to make it better. One is the problem at work. I work directly with at least two days a week. She is the one that was supervisor before me that messed things up so bad. She is angry at being made to step down. The other is DD that is staying with us. We have talked to her several times about the way she acts around the younger grandchildren and helping around the house. Not sure why but she just doesn't get it. I really do think she has some metal issues we didn't realize as only saw her a couple times a year at family things. Thanks for your concern and friendship it means so much to me.

My are is healing well and will always have the dent, doctor said because they took out so much soft tissue. I am just glad they got it all.

Becca--I understand about money going so fast. I write out the bills and looks good on paper, then little things come up and I am out of money before out of bills. I do try and make sure everyone gets something every month. I keep telling myself we have a home, food and water, so better off then some people.

Tracie in WI--Sending hugs and prayers. Please take care of you.

Cheri--Congrates on getting things ready for the move. Just remember to take sometime for you. Sounds like DH has had a positive change of heart.

    DJ--Hope Pepper is feeling better.

Well ladies take care and keep taking it One day at at time.

    Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND, NE

Thank you! I normally don't write such long posts either. The hubs has certainly turned a corner in his journey through life with Asperger's. After so many years of angst in our relationship and his with our children and extended family on both sides there has been a huge change for the better.
