Old school here. Slayer and GWAR are my most favourite bands in the world, although a lot has changed over the years. RIP Dave Brockie, Corey Smoot and Jeff Hanneman.

Yeah me too, I got into the hardcore scene when I was like 16 and was like a regular for so many years. But it's not that I outgrew it but I just got older and had different things in mind for my life and shows every weekend just wasn't it for me.

Funny story, back in like 96 or 97 Jamie Jasta used to come to our shows and bring his distro and would try to sell me this tape with like 4 songs, I was always like nah man I'm good. Finally one show he was like come on man 2 bucks, so I bought it and brought it home and listened to it and I was like ummmmmmm why didn't I buy this long ago? Lol it was the first hatebreed ep under the knife, it o my had 4 songs then they released the cd after and it had a few more. But yeah that was my intro to them. Watching them open for local bands and then suddenly blowing up and playing huge venues.

You must be from CT. I am slightly older than them. They started up after I had left the state. Watching some of those older videos of theirs, I see a ton of people I grew up with in them. I still have friends close to Jamie. If I had hung around another couple years, we would have been in the same circles.

Going to see slipknot and Marilyn Manson next weekend.

Your username makes me think of my favorite in flames song. Metaphor. Not super hard but I love it.

I've used this username since highschool -- I used to listen to In Flames religiously haha.

Used to? Never not In Flames, unless listening to Dark Tranquillity. I am convinced that there's something in the water in Sweden that makes awesome musicians. There's no other explanation for the talent per capita that country coughs up.

    This.

Focus Shift came on during my run this morning. It was perfect.

Let's not forget Amon Amarth, The Haunted, At The Gates, Sabaton, I could go on forever.

Hello!! My husband and I have a metal website and do metal radio shows over the Internet. I'm more of a hair/glam metal kind of gal. Seen Motley Crüe 5 times!!

For any true metal heads here, I highly suggest a few shows on KDVS 90.3 FM (KDVS.org). You can either live-stream, view archives, or download the station app (or obviously listen if you're local to NorCal). If you're into amazing metal broken into individual genres of metal, that are not mainstream bs, check out the following (you can view past and current playlists to see if it would be worth your while, all times are PST):

    Unspeakable Cults, Tuesdays @ 2300-0200 https://kdvs.org/past-playlists/4051/

The Mosh Is Primal, Fridays @ 2230-0000 https://kdvs.org/past-playlists/4108/

    Raise The Dead, Saturdays @ 0000-0300 https://kdvs.org/past-playlists/4076/

I'm all for a crazy time signature with heavy guitars.
Lately though, I've been leaning to the proggier side of rock, porcupine tree, karnivool, opeth, tool and such.

Listen to some of it all, but hard rock and metal have been way up at the top of my list for years. Saw Motely Crue at the US Festival that made them big, and have seen loads of others since. Disturbed is this Tuesday here, and we got tickets the day they went on sale.

Though I was only one. Moterhead, Megadeth, Black Sabbath, Danzig, Misfits, Metal Church, Merciful Fate, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, Flotsam Jetsam, ZZ Top, Nine Inch Nails etc ... of yeah Metallica (idiots with a beef with Napster, cry me a river). Yeah I know some of this list is really hard rock, etc. Did I say Moterhead? Any one know where to get the original jacket patch (not the Warpigs one).

Has anyone ever been into the black metal scene? when i was younger i loved Darkthrone and Bathory to name a couple, now i'm in my late 20s its more thrash and old school death metal. Love Satyricon though, been a fan since i was 15! its cool to see other fans here, where i live it's all trance and club music...

Yep. I first heard Darkthrone as a teenager, I think it was Blaze in the Northern Sky. I was into Emperor and Mayhem for a while too. I don't listen to it as much anymore but every now and then I like to hear it for old times sake.

Karnivool is amazing. I was actually turned on to them from random YouTube shuffling after a Tesseract playlist one night.

While I did dabble in the black metal scene a bit (Emperor, Satyricon, and Ulver were by far my favorites) I ended up pretty quickly leaning away from the traditional stuff when Dimmu released Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia. I realized that I really loved the sound that they, Arcturus, and The Kovenant were heading toward. Then Dimmu went to total *kitten*, Arcturus broke up, and I don't even know what the hell happened to Kovenant after SETI.

Though, Arcturus did get back together this past year for a new album (their first since like 2005), it was...weird, to say the least. I think those guys got on all of the drugs. *kitten* stronger than whatever Garm started taking before Ulver released Morpho.

    *horns up*

Am a thrash metal fan at heart first and foremost... Metallica/Megadeth/Anthrax/Testament/Slayer/Exodus etc...

Also dig Pantera.. Lamb of God...Killswitch Engage.. Hatebreed. So I try to mix it up a bit.

I really don't think Dimmu have made a decent album since death cult armageddon in 2003, spiritual black dimensions was a *kitten* of an album though.

By the way if any of you ever get a chance to see Behemoth live do it! theyre an awsome band and the only... you could say modern, black metal band i actually like. Saw them 2 years ago, awsome show.

While I still consider myself a big metal head, I've spent an increasing amount of time listening to non-metal as years go by. Still I consider doom and black metal to be my favorite genres.

Right now, according to my play counts, the metal bands getting heavy play are Sojourner, My Dying Bride, Tempel, Vattnet Viskar, and Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats. The rest of my recent played is all post-rock, retrowave, and jazz.
