8/22 - wow, so beautiful and not humid today! Did a nice, easy 2.6 miles

Strava seems to have a weird glitch where it has screwed up the weeks of my training log. It seems to have reversed the order of weeks between Jun 13-19 and last week- so last week's runs are now at the bottom of the page under Jun 13-19?????

Thank you to everyone for your congrats on my 5k. :) I so appreciate the support.

I'm sorry I'm not keeping up very well. Sorry to those of you with knee problems and other injuries. Good luck to those of you finishing up theses. Loved the kitty picture - how content.

I'm having a bit of a rocky time with my dog's cancer and she's not been feeling well. It's so emotionally hard. I'm glad to have running to give me a little escape here and there but I feel like I'm so drained that I'm not able to put in great effort. I'm trying to just go with my coach's philosophy of consistency being more important than anything and just get some kind of run done, even if it's not my best.

Decided to do an easy 7 mile recovery run outside late tonight to verify that I'm not abusing the treadmill too much in Florida, and 20 minutes after finishing and hanging up my clothes, I'm still hearing a continuous drip noise from the sweat falling off my shirt/shorts and onto the floor. For reference, my last indoor run at the same heart rate was 1:35/mile faster and conditions tonight were slightly less humid than usual (125BPM for 9:05/mile @ 72 degrees indoors vs. 10:39/mile @ 84 degrees outdoors w. 75% humidity). Needless to say, I won't be resuming my daily outdoor running until I return to the less humid northeast in another week and a half.

Looking at my outdoor paces up north in 80+ weather, I think I'm reasonably acclimated to the heat, but I guess once the humidity hits a certain point, your body loses its ability to regulate temperature via sweat and trained physical heat adaptations (i.e. wider capillaries, more blood) won't overcome the physics of significantly lower external heat diffusion.

    8/2 - 11 miles (w. 2 at MP)
    8/3 - 4 miles (w. 2 miles near threshold HR)
    8/5 - 12 miles
    8/6 - 11 miles
    8/7 - 20 miles
    8/8 - 7 miles (w. 6 at MP)
    8/9 - 11.5 miles
    8/11 - 10 miles
    8/12 - 20 miles (last 5 at MP)
    8/13 - 2 miles
    8/14 - 6 miles
    8/15 - 10 miles
    8/16 - 9 miles
    8/17 - 3 miles
    8/18 - 6.5 miles (w. 5x1K repeats at HM pace)
    8/21 - 15 miles (w. final 5 miles @ 8 pace)
    8/22 - 7 miles

    Total: 165 miles, 5 session with MP/threshold HR/speedwork running
Goal: 200 miles, 8 faster sessions
Remaining; 35 miles, 3 faster sessions

    2016 Race Schedule:
    Disney Marathon - Jan 6 - 3:29:09
    Gasparilla 15K - Feb 20 - 1:01:59
    Ironman 70.3 Florida - Apr 10 - 5:07:51
    Pittsburgh Marathon - May 1 - 3:08:25
    Ironman 70.3 Augusta - Sep 25
    Chicago Marathon - Oct 9
    Ironman Florida - Nov 5
    Rock 'n Roll Las Vegas 10K - Nov 13

@ariceroni - Good luck with your recovery, and I hope things get back to 100% in time for Chicago. Done with my first two pre-marathon 20 milers, and definitely looking forward to starting my taper in another few weeks.

Good run this morning. Made it out of bed at 5.30am but moved in slo mo so took me until nearer 6 to get out the house - normally takes 10min lol. Might even manage a coffee before work.

    Well done @ariceroni .
@Elise4270 finger firmly crossed but not necessary - you will be back to full strength soon enough. You have quadrupled your walking capacity and doubled your swim time in about 2 weeks. You can do anything with a little time!

Hi everyone - sorry I have been so absent for the last few days. It has been crazy busy at work and at home and then I have had PC connectivity issues and finally have a temporary workaround in place.
There have been almost 300 posts since I last updated so I don't think I will be able to go back and respond to everyone but it looks like everyone is tearing up the trails and pavement this month!

I had the Tiki Beach 10K this weekend with @luluinca who ran her first 5K! It was great to meet her and I am so glad she told me about the race! I ran with my niece and daughter and my daughter did so well dropping 6 minutes off her best time! I was running it as just a normal workout run but my niece stumbled and in catching herself twisted her leg resulting in cramping in her thigh. We ended up alternating walking and running the 2nd half of the race but still had fun. It made me realize that I really should do a few more 10Ks. My focus has been so much on HMs that I haven't thought about the shorter races and it was a lot of fun. May just have to see about meeting up with @luluinca for another one!

I was supposed to be up this morning at 5am for a meeting and then I was going to go for a run. I decided instead to blow off the meeting and sleep in a little resulting in no run because I woke up late to Monday morning craziness. Tomorrow my daughter and niece leave to drive to the niece's college and I will be back to a more normal schedule if work would just quiet down a bit. The 3 of us are going to go out for one more run in the morning before they head out for the 7 hour road trip.

@Elise4270 - I know you will run again. It won't be easy and it probably won't be pretty or feel good initially but you will run again and eventually it will be great again! Hang in there!! I am thinking good thoughts for your appointment on Wednesday!
    @HonuNui - love your shirt!
    @Orphia - you hit 100 miles already!! Way.To.Go!!
@luluinca - just keep running and as your endurance improves you will see those times drop. It will happen just don't rush it too much.
@lporter229 - love the beach pictures! Where is everyone? Our beaches are just packed this time of year.
@k_it_10 - definitely say hello to @PoppetsMaster for us. We miss his witty remarks livening up the discussions here!
@MandaNar - I too have been away with internet issues... congratulations on losing the 5 lbs!! and also that your knee is feeling better!
@katharmonic - I am so sorry about your puppy! I don't know what I would do if mine was very sick. They just have a way of getting into your heart and hanging on there! Take care!

@ohhim - I know what you mean about the sweating from Florida runs. I get home and am sweating SO much it's just dripping on the floor. I thought about buying puppy pads and putting them on the kitchen floor for when I come home, LOL. I usually get home and then change quickly and drink chocolate milk and eat watermelon but I can't sit because I'd ruin the chairs.

Apparently I am still asleep even though I ran 5 miles and drove to work. First I went in to update my ticker and it said 93 miles. I was like ... what? No! So I went to Strava, looked at the miles for the month and updated it to 62.5. Then as I was posting in here I realized I was looking at July's ticker and had pasted in July's runs. So then I went to August's ticker, updated it but I accidentally put my password in instead of the miles. So suddenly I had run thousands of miles.

    8/1 - 5.1 miles
    8/2 - 4.6 miles with intervals
    8/3 - 4.6 miles + Strength Training
    8/4 - 5.67 miles
    8/5 - 5.1 miles + Strength Training
    8/6 - 43 miles biking
    8/7 - 30 miles biking
    8/8 - 3.1 miles
    8/9 - 18 miles biking
    8/10 - strength training
    8/11 - 5.2 miles
    8/12 - 5.3 miles + strength training
    8/13 - 44 miles biking
    8/14 - 44 miles biking
    8/15 - 4.25 miles
    8/16 - 4.6 miles w/Intervals
    8/17 - strength training
    8/18 - 4.5 miles
    8/19 - 5 miles w/ intervals
    8/20 - 44 miles biking
    8/21 - 58 miles biking
8/22 - rest day! I didn’t really want to, of course, but I know I needed sleep!
    8/23 - 5 miles

    Aug 11-4.3 miles easy

    Aug 20-12 miles
    Aug 21-5.7 miles
    Aug 22-5.3 miles

Last night's run was amazing. Finally had a break in the humidity, so the weather was almost fall like. 79F, but only 39% humidity. I was definitely able to see some of those gains from running in the nasty summer weather. My easy pace on relatively flat ground was coming in around an 8:20 min/mile. However, after spending an entire week running on sandy beaches and flat ground, my hamstrings were crying for some hills, so I only did 2 miles on the flat. Overall pace was 8:30 for 5.3 miles with 327 feet of elevation gain. All in all, an awesome run!

@shanaber - That's one of the best things about Isle of Palms. It's not super touristy, so even in the peak beach season of July, the beaches there are never too packed. And in August with the kids back in school and the start of hurricane season, it's practically private. They are beautiful, clean beaches as well. My husband and I plan to move to that area in the next few years.

8/1 - Intended to run 4, but oversleeping and a thunderstorm kept it from happening :-(
8/2 - Bodypump class, followed by Abs/Core class. I may be too uncoordinated for this ab stuff...I feel like a bull in a china shop for sure.
8/3 - 4.11 miles. Cool but foggy/sticky. Felt like running through a shower.
8/4 - 5 miles on treadmill (Trek class). The Y was so humid, kinda felt like I was outside anyway.
    8/5 - Bodypump class.
8/6 - 6.33 miles with HM training group.
    8/7 - Rest Day.
    8/8 - 4.25 miles. Felt good!
8/9 - Unplanned rest day. Some annoying back pain kept me awake all night, so I "overslept" without actually getting any sleep.
    8/10 - 4.3 miles in 75°, 90% humidity...plus, owl.
8/11 - 4.95 miles on treadmill (Trek class). Then, some quick upper body weights. Again, humid.
8/12 - Spin Class...not sure I have ever sweat that much in my life
8/13 - 6 mile group run with HM training group. Nice pace, cooler temp.
8/14 - Rest / housework day. Ended day with an unnecessary trip to the ER for my 10 year old. Even Moms that are Pediatric nurses overreact once in a while
8/15 - Slept in due to that ER visit.
8/16 - Bodypump class, followed by Abs/Core class.
    8/17 - 5.04 miles. Started in a pleasant, light rain...ended in humidity.
8/18 - 4.27 miles. Weather was OK, but felt like a slog. Just one of those days, I guess
8/19 - Spin Class, followed by upper body weights.
8/20 - 6.22 miles. Group run. Light rain at start, pretty cool temperature. Loved it!
8/21 - Yard work / house work / rest day.
    8/22 - 4.0 miles. Cool, comfortable morning.
8/23 - Bodypump class, followed by Abs/Core class (still feel clumsy)

Taking extra rest days was definitely a good idea. I was up til 11 last night reading through my thesis draft, but I still got ~8 hours of sleep! Sleeping in has been wonderful the last two mornings. My calf is feeling much better as well; sleeping in a compression sleeve and icing every couple hours at work is doing the trick, plus probably the added bonus of getting more than 6 hours of sleep per night. We'll see how it feels tomorrow though when I finally run again (I shouldn't say finally; my two days doesn't even come close to @ariceroni's 11 days or @Elise4270's many weeks!). There's no tightness walking around and or going up stairs, and it's only a bit tight driving (I drive a stick and my injured calf is on my clutch leg). I'm going to be cautiously optimistic for tomorrow.

70 days since I've run. *Sadness* Glad that calf is getting better!

@shanaber Internet issues making me angry! LOL It's possibly not being in control or fixing the issue.
And thank you to you and @Orphia Pretty much my whole teen/adult life has been a struggle. So actually seeing the positive change is so helpful knowing my choices are worth it.
I mean I KNOW they are, but to help me keep at it.

Today I once again woke up early and went to the gym before work. I felt like the running dead.

    qnkczick16jo.jpg

It's been a week since the last time I got up early to work out, so my body isn't used to it yet. I'm hoping, after a few bad days, to make this a daily habit, no more excuses, just get my *kitten* up and go. Maybe then I'll get used to it and running won't feel so much like a slog through wet mud.

Managed 5k today, nowhere near PR pace, but put myself officially over my goal for the month. I still have just over 3 miles to make my walking goal. Shouldn't be too hard.

Looks like everyone is really embracing it this week and some of you have a little bit of cooler weather. It was actually humid here this morning for us but it won't last!

Got an unscheduled rest day, hip isn't as bad but not up to running tonight so going to go for a swim hoping it'll help strengthen all the muscles round that area a bit.

@instantmartian We've made it into a mini heat wave down in the south east for 3 day temps going over 80F (yes I had to google the conversion from celsius).

Well done on the tickets, persistence really does pay off the play has had such good reviews I'm sure everyone will love it. Sounds like you've got an amazing trip for you and the family planned for when you come over and its all worked out really well. Lets hope the sunshine stays for you :)

I skipped my Sunday long run and yesterday's 3 miler. I did 3 miles on Saturday morning (already logged), then spent the rest of the day building fence for my horse. Thank goodness we opted for electric fencing (internal fence only--the whole property perimeter is fenced in barbed wire), as we were able to complete the entire 1100+ linear feet of fencing in one day. That includes driving corner posts, marking off line post locations, putting in line posts, stretching electric tape, installing the solar charger, installing the electric gate, etc. I ended my day with close to 25K steps. My feet were just sore on Sunday morning, so I decided not to run.

We went to the boarding facility to pick up the horse on Sunday. Spent over 3 hours trying to get her loaded in the trailer, but she steadfastly refused. She was not particularly scared, just being obstinate. We tried everything: offering her food, leading her in gently, putting a rope behind her so she couldn't back up, putting another horse in the trailer to encourage her to go in, lunging her in the round pen to tire her out. No luck. Very frustrating, since I had previously loaded her in the same trailer with no problems. This is what I get for buying a mustang. So stubborn! So, we wasted a whole day and came home empty handed, tired, and sore.

I ended up taking yesterday off work to go make another attempt to load her up. Spent the morning installing more electric fence (a single line inset 5" from the barbed wire perimeter that's on two sides of her pasture--so another 1100+ linear feet, but at least no post driving was involved), then headed back out to try to get her again. She was in the trailer and we were headed home within 30 minutes of getting there (and that includes the time it took me to go find her and lead her back to the trailer). No problems whatsoever, just walked right in. Grrr... Regardless of not running, I finished my day with about 15K steps, so at least I was plenty active.

Horsey is now happy at home in her new pasture and has made friends with the horses in the neighboring pasture. So glad to finally have her home, where I can see her every day. I haven't decided yet if I'm running today or not. Only 12 miles left to meet my monthly goal, so I have plenty of time to get there...

@elise4270 good luck tomorrow at the doctor - you'll be out and running soon. No more swiss balls!
    @greenolivetree thank you!
@shanaber I love the 8K and 10K distances. Congrats to your daughter on her PR, oh your poor niece
@kristinegift glad the calf is feeling better - I grew up just north of Morristown in Parsippany
@ddmom0811 LOL rough morning for sure!
@ohhim had to laugh on the sweating. I came home and then walk the dog for a little bit, gives me a chance to cool down before I try to sit down
@lporter229 39% humidity OMG I don't think we have that in the winter ha ha
@instantmartian it's funny when you hear about someone who hasn't read or seen HP. I started to read the books when a friend's middle school aged daughter recommended it. We were at a Christmas party and she was telling me all about this book, then she said do you want to read it. Well I didn't want to hurt her feelings, thinking hello she's 11 and I'm well older. So I said sure. Her Mom brought me the book and I finished it in one night. I was hooked from there. We have them all at home, but like you Skip is forced to read so much in school she has no desire to read outside of school.
@mandanar 17 to 15 min miles is awesome!!!
@mom3over40 I really wish people would start in a spot at a race that is realistic to their time. I hate going out at the start and within 1/4 mile people need to start to walk, really?? why are you not in the back. Skip is much faster than me, she starts up front I start mid point most of the time. Worse yet are the people who stop in the middle of the road to walk, hello move to the side and start to walk. Great job on your HM.
