    8/22 - 3 mi run/2 mi walk/strength and pilates later

    Running Goal: 16 of okay...let's say 25 :)
Non-running goals: Take my strength training more seriously this month/Lose 5lbs (3lbs down!)

I don't think I'm quite ready to get really back into running again but 3 miles felt good this morning, especially at 57 degrees! Woohoo! It was chilly that first 3 mins :-p

My glutes are sore lately. Can I actually be sore from WALKING? I used to walk tons but this year I mostly ran and strength trained and didn't really walk often at all. Until this month, I'm suddenly doing all this walking to make up for not running and my glutes hurt?

    @lporter229 and @mbaker566 Pretty pics :)

@BetterMike Great job on the 8 miles.

@ariceroni Good luck with your mile. I'm trying to ease back into running as well. Ran a little last night testing it out then 3 today, but probably won't run again until Friday. Want to make sure everything is fully rested and not sore before I go again. Unless I do some more intervals???

    @HonuNui Great shirt :-D

i also almost came home from our camping trip with a cat. our friends found a feral on the way up and Cigar was a great fan of my lap and shoulders. He was definitely a feral though. Given the chance, he wedged himself on top of the muffler of their van. Sadly, husband and SD are both allergic. I was going to go for a run but ended up with Cigar instead

Bit behind on my updates been reading the forum when I can everyone is so busy with their runnning.
    08/02 3.4 miles
08/03 2.5 miles Learnt my lesson of listening to my body now the hip is rather painful so a few unplanned days off in my future hoping its only a few days with stretches.
08/09 1 mile test run very slow checking for niggles
08/10 3.1 miles 2nd testing run seeing how the hip is went well.
08/14 3.1 miles holiday run kept it short and sweet
08/18 4.3 miles calves filled with lead seemed to ease up over the course of the run
08/19 4.3 miles much better run
08/21 8.7 miles longest run for a few months hip pain is back, ran walked the last section I'm planning on incorporating a bit more walking into my running for now and ease back into it all.

Switch target down to 60 from 70 after a few days off

@instantmartian how did you get tickets for harry potter? rather jealous I've been after them for months, enjoy it and I hope the good weather carries on over here for you, it's been rather nice over in the UK at the moment (read that as mostly sunny with some rain)
@ariceroni hope your knee clears up before Chicago wishing you all the luck with it
@TattooedDolphinGirl78 Thanks for your concern hip got better, went to the osteopath apparently my hips were out of alignment so I'm hoping it sorts out the problems and the current hip problem is just a bit of leftover from before.

I didn't check the board all weekend, so now I'm several hundred posts behind! I hope to catch up, but in the meantime I'm gonna post my (non) progress

    8/1.....rest day
8/2.....3.25 miles run/ walk on treadmill
    8/3.....weights
8/4.....2.4 miles run/ walk in the park (achy, asthmatic slog in the heat & humidity - bleah)
8/5.....unplanned rest day: not feeling well
8/6.....rest day <--still feeling ill :persevere:
8/7.....yet another rest day, still sick :(
8/8.....walking & bike riding with Pandora
    8/9.....1.34 miles run/ walk on treadmill + 1.7 miles run/ walk/ squirrel chase with Pan ;) = 3.04 total
    8/10...swam 1000 yds
8/11...0.35 mile walk + 1.5 mile run on treadmill (during lunch break - didn't have time to do more) = 1.85 total
    8/12...dog walking
8/13...3.7 miles run/ walk in high humidity & hills (!); also walking to/ from beach, walking swimming, & running at beach (didn't keep track of time/ miles)
    8/14...kayaking 2 hours; walking to/ from beach
8/15...don't remember...so that probably means nothing other than dog walking
8/16...stationary bike & biking with Pan
8/17...3.2 miles run/ walk in the park
8/18...stationary bike & long dog walk
    8/19...stationary bike 1 hour
8/20...stationary bike & biking with Pan
8/21...swimming (lost track of distance) + marathon yard work session

Yesterday was a beautiful day for running: cool with low humidity & passing clouds. So....of course I went for a swim. In an outdoor pool  Wasn't too bad once I got in & got going, but bf commented that my first 50 m looked really fast.

I'm for sure not going to make this month's goal because of the knee pain. Probably no more running for me until I can get in to see the physical therapist, and then I'll find out what they have to say about it. So for now it's biking, swimming, & dog walking for me! The pool at the University where I work is currently closed because it's in between sessions. This is a little frustrating because it's my go-to pool. But they'll be open again next week.

    Goal: 40 miles
17.44 miles done, 22.56 to go

    Upcoming Race(s):
    Stride Against Violence 5K - 10/16/16

@RespectTheKitty nice going! You are really improving well!

Thank you, dear. I do feel like I'm progressing quite nicely. Pretty soon I'll be able to do 10k and won't that be grand.

That will be great! I liked the half marathon I did, but I'm starting to realize that I might like the "shorter" faster races better. 10k is a great distance. You'll love it when you get to it.

Yeah, I agree. I think that I am going to start looking for 10K's. I think that 6.2 miles is my distance.

My knee is much better. No longer having pain when walking up and down stairs. Scheduled to work tonight. I am going to see how I do on my feet x 12 hours.

Going to try a short (1 mile) run this afternoon, after taking 11 (!!!) days off from running! My knee is not back to 100% yet, but with only 7 weeks left until Chicago it is time to at least see where I am recovery-wise. Wish me luck!
Also, sorry I haven't been so active here lately; it honestly is really depressing to not be able to run
Great job on all the races and PRs! And welcome to any new members that I missed :)

Good luck with your knee! I am going to test mine tomorrow morning if all goes well at work. I think that I only have 7 weeks until my half on October 8th.

Any idea why Garmin is suddenly putting "bike cadence" on non-cycling workouts? I just noticed this today and I see it on my recent run, walk, and indoor workouts that I tracked. Odd.

The penultimate week of my C25K started today, no more walking just full on running. That should put my mileage up a fair amount, with much more rest required as well!

I get that as well, I thought it was something to do with my device but I'm not alone it seems

@greenolivetree good question! After I saw your post I went into my Garmin and it's doing it on mine too. Apparently I had a bike cadence of 86 spm on my 11 mile run yesterday, woot! Lol

Well I'm not the only one then! I look at the online/desktop Garmin site a lot vs just my phone and this is definitely new.

    Thank you, @katharmonic.

It was my second HM. I definitely like the experience with my first one better: This race required participants to take a shuttle to the race start. We needed to wake up at crazy 3:30 am to caught the shuttle on time. It also does not have wave start. They did have pace marker behind the start line to “separate” the crowd but apparently everyone thought they could finish in 2 hours or less. Well, I did know about these before I registered, I just didn’t know how much I dislike them  Actually, I thought no-wave start was a good thing: it meant I wouldn’t need to wait half an hour for my wave, but I did not know it would mean people cramped together like sardines.

Having said that, the crowds cheering on the side were still very good and encouraging. There were groups of people would look at the name on our bibs and called us out by name saying “Good Job”. Being surrounded by people like them and runners of different age, shapes and sizes are my favorite part of running a half.

Oh, also, around mile-9, I saw someone dressed up as Pikachu in the race. I took a picture with her and told my kids I caught a Pokemon in the race :) That was fun.
