Re finding the healthy diet that works for you is a process. One of the reasons I keep coming back to this site is we are here for each other and encourage each other to make healthy lifestyle choices. It a marathon and not a sprint.

I've just been looking at videos on Utube about how to choose a kettlebell that is the right weight for you. There are plenty on there. Someone was asking about it. The one made by Mark Riefkind, featuring his wife Tracy, seems to be easily understandable.
DH is home. I have come in under calories by a whisker. :D

Marcelyn - Well done! One of the MOST important skills in life is learning how to say NO. :flowerforyou: Many of our problems would be solved by developing clear boundaries and expecting people to respect them.

Off to bed soon. Love Heather

Miriam, you are my hero. Good luck in taking care of those kids. Sounds like Grandma needs a friend.

Yesterday when we went out we found a mess in the front yard. It looks like some animal got in a fight with a bird and the bird lost. In this small area we have a whole bunch of feathers. At first I thought they were more downy feathers but I looked at it later and there were long mature feathers. I don't see any blood and guys though. So the animal took the whole carcas. I;m glad I didn't have to see the fight. I would have broken it up yet I know that nature takes care of their own and it's survival of the fittest.

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .

    Good Evening Ladies,

Heather, it does sound like you are all set for the sea when you go to Mexico. That was nice of your neighbors and how nice that the construction is over.

KarenBC, tell us more about your trip. Is it for work? How long will you be there?

CarolGA, school started already??? It’s only the First of August, for pete’s sake!

    Lisa, the enchiladas sound yummy!!!!

Janeanne, welcome. I love to cruise and I don’t deprive myself when I go. I just try to eat smart and think about what I’m eating. Have a wonderful time.

Pip, great job. Onward and upward.

Carrie, I do hope that was a joke about wanting to lose 8 pounds in a week??? That is way too much. Where are your cruising from and for how many days?

Beth, I hope all goes well for your DS while he’s away at college.

Leigh, I’m here to tell you that turning 60 actually didn’t hurt a bit. I was actually excited for some of the Senior Discounts I could finally get. I’m now 69 and feel so much better than I did at 60 so just enjoy life, my friend!!!!

Mary, OMG I hope you didn’t break a bone. I hope the pain leaves you quickly.

Susie, welcome. This is a wonderful group of ladies for support and information. Come often and tell us what’s going on with you.

Janetr, glad you had a good trip. Great pic of your sis who looks like you.

Lisa, ewwww I know you get some pretty gruesome stories but that one is way too creepy!!!

Miriam, cute, cute girls. They are so lucky to have you!!!

Feedaike, welcome. Please tell us a little about yourself and sign each post with the name you want to be called.

pretty-pink-welcome-smiley-emoticon.gifto any Newbies that I missed. Come often and join in the chat. This thing works!! Please sign your post with what you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to respond to you. Also a location is great, be it specific or general. We are happy to have you join us.

I had a Women of the Moose meeting last night. Afterwards there was an ice cream social with all kinds of toppings. I helped scoop the ice cream so I stayed busy and not so tempted to eat. I told you a couple of weeks ago about Pepper poodle getting sick and all the vet could find was some parasites in his tummy. We worked hard to get his two different drops in him each day. Today DH took a stool to the vet to be tested and he is free and clear of the little devils. Woo hoo. They had a long article in the local paper about dogs and how the heat affects them. Those of you that take long walks each day please be aware that they can’t take the heat like we can. Just some food for thought. Tomorrow is my 48th wedding Anniversary. OMG that sounds soooo old and I don’t really feel that old at all. Just wiser!  My computer (actually router) has been down all day until now, so I had to read quickly and respond to few. I do wish you all a wonderful August and much success.
Sending love and good thoughts to all of you and I hope you all have a Happy and Healthy Day! rainbow-smiley-emoticon.gif

    Words I live by:
Savor. I have to slow down and savor every bite.
    and
Opportunity. Each day offers new opportunities for good health and happiness if we just look for them and choose them.

Had a nice 3 day weekend. Went by way to fast. Working long shift today and going to be another hot one, so glad to be inside.
Weigh in this morning was a surprise, down 2.5 pounds. Now just to stay with it. DSS started a page on FB to lose weight. He stated his starting weight is 493. I knew he was big, just didn't realize that big. So praying he can stay with it. They live in Iowa so doing support over computer and phone.
Karen--My mom is Shirley Reeder and my Aunt was Elna Rae West. Her children live in Imperial and thier last name is Smith. It was a very large funeral. Your trip with your mom to find the Queen sounds wounderful.
The wedding shower on Sunday for DGD was different. They really wanted you to buy jewery and most of it was over priced and not something I would wear. But I was there and that is the important things.
Heather--Sounds like you had a great time with the DGB's. Thanks for sharing the pictures. love it.
Allie--Sounds like the time with DD and DB is just what you needed. Glad it is going well.
Spikeyhair--Sorry to hear about DGD. Sending hugs and prayers. I do believe prayers work.
Charlene--Beautiful quilt. Good luck at the fair.
Pip--I smiled also when I read about Kriby getting ahead of you. He is one determed man.
    Joyce--Hugs!
Katla--Glad you are home and had a great trip.
Melanie--Happy B-lated birthday. One day at a time.
Barbie--Thanks for keeping us going! Not letting us give up.
    Beth--Hugs!
Well I am up to page 4. Going to have to work harder to keep up. Take care ladies.

I guess I am. I have the ability to have a "just a taste" of fudge. The urge is there to wallow in it - but, I can fight that. I would rather have that taste, than have no fudge at all.

And I hope my post didn't come across as "how it should be done." I certainly would never expect anyone to "do it my way" except me. Every one of us must find her own path. That's just the way life is.

Indeed, I had no issue with the advice to reduce fat and sodium - I know I eat too much of both for the best health. My issue was with the severity and the thought that fruit was somehow unhealthy or unacceptable for weight loss.

The one that really got me was the yogurt. Seriously?

That just bugged me.... so I had to rant. I am better now...

    Hugs!

I know of your mother. Your dad must have been Junior Reeder. I know who your aunt was, and I know your cousin Marla Rae. I also know your cousin Lloyd's wife Rhonda (Frosh). And I know your aunt was a Kitt. The Kitt boys dominated the Wauneta basketball, track, and football teams when I was a teen. They were excellent athletes and easy on the eyes. :)

Your aunt helped start POMPOMs in Imperial. My parents were active, and my marching band uniform and scholarships to band camps were provided by that wonderful organization. Some of my fondest memories are of the revues the parents put on to raise money for POMPOMs (Parents of Musicians, Promoters of Music).

Sorry for your loss. Your aunt brought a lot of music and happiness to my little town.

    Happy Tuesday!

My job is helping adults with special needs! We have 2 days we take our groups out into the community! My small group goes out on Tuesday and volunteer at a nursing home! It is a fun day lots of extra moving! After that went for lunch I had forgotten mine at home so I had to buy lunch! Able to get a salad! Went to the Y today to walk the inside track! Only able to do 35 minutes! I was hoping to do more! Now home hanging out with the family had a good dinner but i still feel hungry I am really carving something sweet. I am hoping to get rid of this

Hope everyone has a good day!

evinston: Welcome to a great group of supportive women. This is a good place for encouragement. :flowerforyou:

Iremia: Tell your advisors that the correct answer is CICO--calories in and calories out. You get to decide what the calories come from and how to burn them. That said, some people get water retention from salty or sugary foods and they were probably trying share what works for them. I know I'm making excuses for them. I often try to understand what motivates folks to say the things they do. :ohwell: Barbie is right on target. She is an abstainer because that is what works for her. I'm a moderator, count every calorie, and rely on portion control as my main strategy. Everyone needs to figure out which strategy works best for them.

    DJ: Happy 48th Anniversary! :star::heart: :star::heart: (We're just 3 years behind you.)

tonimarsh: Welcome! Your goals seem doable. Visit often for encouragement and support. :flowerforyou:

We had a good day today, did a little shopping and enjoyed sitting on the deck watching the river. We had good news from DDIL. The company we rented the mobility scooter from finally came and picked it up. YAY!!!! Now she's free to go about her business. Thank you to Joyce for the idea. It was a wonderful asset for DH. He was able to go and do lots of things that he couldn't have even considered without the scooter and we all benefitted because we could have fun together. The only negative was the length of time it took the company to retrieve the scooter when we were done with it. (and then there were the times it rolled over at Montecello.) Crazy driver, I mean DH, at fault there. Nobody was hurt.

    August Resolutions :
    1. Log every bite and swallow.
    2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week. Work on flexibility and back strength.
    3. Have fun every day.
    4. Drink at least three glasses of water daily, preferably more!
    5. Monitor sleep. Try to average 7 or more hours of sleep nightly.

    Hi Gals,

Cheri – great moving log!!! Good job down sizing.

Marcelynh – Great job on saying no to co-signing….

Re – so this is my way…. veggies, fruit, lean protein… save up for dessert and booze! Water always- more if eating something salty, carbs in moderation, save up for carbs not in moderation….

It sounds like you are doing the right things, but with that much puffy-ness you may want to check the sodium, I was able to make some minor changes and help with certain things a lot – a good example is I LOVE BBQ sauce, but in the one I was eating the calories were 200 for 2 tablespoons and the salt was high, so I am trying different ones but all with the calories in the 40-60 for 2 tablespoons range…the perfect one for me is out there…

And while I am not an abstainer, there are things that now I know the calorie count I have decided are not worth that many calories so I do abstain.

Fanncy0626 – I once dropped a 24” diameter concrete step on my big toe on my right foot; cracked the toenail in half; went to MD and he looked at it and said, I’d probably lose the entire toenail; but he took off just the front half and left the back half on. It cracked it right down the center, right to left. So I understand you pain. I’ve had mine slip off the stack and hit my foot before, and that hurts!!!

Thanks for the squat exercises using a chair to sit down on so I won’t fall on my @$$. I already know the ‘lower’ chair/seat I can use … My toilet! LOL! Damn thing is so low I usually slide off one side or the other. My other toilet in our ½ bath needs to be replaced because the tank has a crack in it so, it leaks when it is flushed. I want a higher one in our MBR; so maybe he can swap the old one when he replaces the cracked one

Michele – I’m so sore from walking on the beach and going through the Jax Zoo (probably 5+ miles there alone). So I haven’t worried about my CI because my CO have been so high. Now back to my plan and working it. DOGD and her Boyfriend are supposed to pick up “Cracker” from the vet tomorrow. I miss that little girl! Tux (the cat) was glad to see us home. He likes sitting on the top of my car so he can jump over to the railing on the deck.

Heather or anyone – Could you please post the recipe for the crust-less spinach and feta cheese pie (or PM me with it)? I want to try it. I love spinach. Is feta cheese a fairly ‘mild’ cheese or what? Thanks.

Karen – I’m like Michelle – looking forward to being able to drive again after a seizure on 5/12; which means it will be mid-December before I get to do that. It really is so easy to take a whole lot of granted until it is taken away from you. One 'up' side for me is that it teaches my DH how much groceries costs; and, then after I do get where I can drive, he gives me more $$$ for groceries and stops 'whining' about what he has forgotten (usually coffee or sugar or something needed; but, not so much to make a trip into town; one nice thing about have DOS and his family living next door).

Michelle – I’m so sore from walking on the beach and going through the Jax Zoo (probably 5+ miles there alone). So I haven’t worried about my CI because my CO have been so high. Now back to my plan and working it.

I once took my ‘carry-on’ with several others to get on the plane; and, IF it was NOT a laptop; they took it from us and put it in the belly of the plane. I wondered if they were afraid it would flip over the plane. All of us, lost our luggage on that trip. They took it off; and, set it aside; and, within ‘sight’ … I told the person that seemingly was ‘guarding’ it that I knew my luggage was on that truck. But, because none of it had gone through ‘check-in’ and were all in the belly of the plane, none of us got it until they did a thorough check. One man in front of my sister and me told the clerk, “You CAN’T have LOST my luggage, my car keys and house keys are in that bag. My sister said, ‘who the ‘kitten’ puts all their keys in their luggage’? Then she grabbed 2 containers of ‘toiletries’ from the lady and we left. They ‘finally’ delivered it to her condo at 11:30pm. I was livid because my medications were in it. I did NOT want to have to go without it for more than a day.

Home from vacation! Had a lot of fun, girls were good; but, DOGD has gained far more than that "Freshman 15"; I think she has probably put it on every year she's been 'in college'. She can put some food away; but, can't say anything to her (parents don't want us to) because she gets so upset and somewhat defensive. She's strong-willed and opinionated to boot. Found that out, more this time than in other years. DOS was telling DH that my sister had told her that with a Master's degree in Biology/Science ... she could write her own ticket since those teachers are premium. Maybe changing her major from pre-vet to teaching biology/science would be a good thing. She can work on her Master's from home; then her boyfriend can go to school to become a certified PT. She can support them during that time. Maybe they will, at least, get engaged by the time he enters PT school (either in GA or in TN, where he'd like to go). Her cousin has been teaching this last year; husband was an EMT; now that he has been accepted into medical school at University of Florida ... and she is going to support him, since he can't have an 'outside' job while in medical school. Things are working out. Even though she recently found out she is pregnant; baby due around Thanksgiving ... she was still able to get a job 'teaching'. They don't care ... come back after Christmas ... and move on from there. Hoping that DBnL will finally go ahead and moved down with them. DH told his brother that he could be a 'huge' help for them; could buy a duplex; either let them live next door or rent it out for next to nothing for them ... during this time; and, keep the baby when needed. He is so 'tired' of working for DH; and, has been such a PITA for months. Really do not think he will be around by the end of the year. Almost wish he'd go ahead and give it up. Maybe then, DOS can take over the business ... but, he is going to have to find a couple of trustworthy people to do so. DH really wants to slow down to practically little, or nothing, by the first of 2017.

Did 50 minutes of Tracie Longs Longevity Series Defining Shape DVD. It's mostly weights. The plan for tomorrow is to take the deep water class.

Today's the day!!!! I do have to make the things that I'll take to Mexican Train tonight. I'm going to make these sausage cups. I hope I got enough wonton wrappers, if not, I'll run to WalMart. Oh, how good it is to say that! Well, I guess maybe I can run to Food Lion assuming they carry them. Or maybe I can just use filo cups (I have some in my freezer). Actually, that would probably be easier. I'm thinking that I'll go work on those weeds some this morning, Vince mentioned that he wants to cut the grass in the backyard, I've already finished using the push behind mower and weedwacker so maybe I'll do a bit more on those weeds then come in, take a "get-the-blood off" shower and make what it is I'm going to be taking. I cooked up the sausage the other day. Update: Vince didn't cut the grass, I worked on the weeds, I do think the filo cups worked much much better.

janetr - I can really see the resemblance between you and your sister. Sometimes sisters look nothing alike. Congrats to her making such a milestone!

Exercised and then Vince needed milk so I HAD to go to Food Lion. It isn't very far from the house. I had thought that I might have trouble getting back into driving but I didn't. Then went and worked on the weeds for 3 hours. Now inside for dinner then Mexican Train tonight. Like I said, I think I'm going to skip next month. I'm just not that stimulated for it. and I'm really not crazy about the food that's there.

Cheri - I'm so excited for you. I remember when my in-laws moved to FL, same thing, multiple family's things on one van.

    Susan - welcome! Good goals

xtrasmallone - welcome! Maybe you and Becca could start a singing club!

Re - I always look forward to your introductions! I love my fruit. I know what you mean about grapes going bad quickly. Many times I freeze some. Makes a good snack. this is the second year that I haven't bought any ice cream for myself.

Marcelyn - we had to say "no" to Denise about co-signing for an apartment for her. Really, we were looking for a house, moving to NC, we just couldn't risk our credit. So what happened? Pete's mother co-signed.

Heather - I love the pressure cooker. I wish I could find a cookbook for the pressure cooker that also gives the nutritionals. I usually make my hard boiled eggs in the pressure cooker. I sometimes make meats in it, and they come out so very tender.

Miriam - the girls look like they are just thriving with you! And they're so adorable, too

feedakie - welcome! You're doing great with your goals, don't set them too high at first otherwise you'll get frustrated. I'm with you.

DJ - so glad Pepper is free of those nasty parasites. Good for you keeping busy at the ice cream social. I'm sure that helped immensely. Happy anniversary!!!

Re - I'm the same way, I need at least a taste of something and then I'm fine. But I realize not everyone is like me.

    tonimarsh - welcome!

Lenora - you mean they REALLY took your carry-on luggage from you? That's the first time I've ever heard of something like that being done.

Just came back from Mexican train. Ate too many of the sausage wontons that I brought. Like I said, I don't think I'll go next month, I'll just say that I want to string the popcorn.

Lenora - I'm sure your granddaughter would be defensive if you mentioned her weight. I don't think anyone likes to hear that they are over weight. I would have been furious if anyone had ever mentioned my weight to me. I can see in the mirror. You cannot shame any one into losing weight, or into making any changes in their life, it has to come from within. Just sayin.

    GobletSquat- 3 X 5 X 15
    Russian kettle bell swing- 3 X 15 X 15 (think I need a heavier kettlebell)

I did 60 minutes of my regular weight resistance work after the kettlebell work. Wore me out, didn't do much last week, other than walk, while on vacation.

Janetr, love the picture, so much family resemblance. You can tell your sis is unhappy though. Hers is a fake smile, your though is glorious.

Vickie, I can't imagine a wedding shower being a jewelry sale. That's just mighty preposterous of some one. I do think that showers, gender reveal parties, etc have gotten out of hand though. I'm glad you were there though to show support and have fun. My daughter Michelle and and my sister's daughter got married about one month apart and we had a shower with just our Mom, my sister and I and the two girls. They had other showers with friends but it was fun to have a joint shower with cousins who are just 11 months apart. Her husband is blind and has it's share of hiccups in it, Michelle's ended in divorce once he cheated on her.

We went to movie tonight, first one in many a month. When he had ulcerative colitis it was impossible to go to one. By the time you 'get the urge' you can't get out of your seat and find the bathroom. Then he had the ileostomy and we were almost to the point of going again. We wanted to see Independence Day but then he had the gall bladder emergency. So Independence day is out of the theatre. Hopefully we can get it on Red Box. But we saw the new Star Trek movie. It is still hard for me to get used to hearing another person being Captain Kirk, etc. But it was a good movie, a little slow in starting the plot though. Charlie was a little uncomfortable though. His butt still hurts him. It is even broke down a little bit.

Our school starts August 10th. I can remember starting school the day after Labor day. That was how to judge it.
