Hello Breathtaking Babes
The only news today is, they changed my job title. I was a "Workout Specialist II" and now I am a "Mtg. Servicing Specialist III." Of course, it's all meaningless... my income is the same, my duties are the same and my desk is the same... they just changed my title - they are busily "re-aligning" everything round here. I just have to keep my fingers crossed that I don't get re-aligned to the Unemployment line.
The Puffy Princess factor may be receding... yesterday the scale said 249 - today it was back down to 245 - hoping for back to 243 and below, soon. I am sure I probably do need to drink some more water - So I will.

Marcelyn -homemade tortillas = hell disguised as heaven in a nice warm little circle
Joyce - I am with you. I have been in love with Bill Shatner since I was a little girl. He will always be Captain Kirk to me. This young pup is OK - but he will never really be Kirk.
Lenora - Lead by example... but gently. Nobody responds well to too much pressure - and young girls are soooooo sensitive. If your DOGD sees you making sensible choices and being more active, perhaps you will inspire her to make some better choices.
Michele - I strive to be creative in these things.... lol. Glad to keep you amused.
Miriam - I love that area, too. I went to high school in a little town called Joseph, Oregon - in the way NE corner of Oregon - so, I misspent my youth round those parts.
Janet - I could easily pick at least two of those Sisters out of a line-up... lol. My Sisters look very different - each is an individual... the only time you can pick us out, is if you hear us speak... Our voices are shockingly similar.
Katla - I have definitely been following the CICO rule. That's how I KNOW - with 100% certainty - that I am just puffy right now. EVEN if somehow I am missing, or miscalculating my calories in, some, I leave 400-500 in additional exercise calories on the table, every day. I would have to be making some pretty serious errors in calculation and weighing to be over my calories out.
Kim - see - FRUIT - lol. I save up for dessert - or Pizza. Booze doesn't have the same allure for me as a good cheesy slice.
Meg - Yes - one meal - I am a fan of cook once, eat twice... but that only works if DH likes the recipe. I was THRILLED when my curried lentils came out of the crockpot delicious, on Monday. I got a pass on cooking, last night... yesssssss. Tonight it's breakfast for dinner. Hashbrowns, Eggs and toast.
Kay - Preach, Sister! lol. But really, I am spoiled - horribly - so I do better with portion control than I do with any form of abstinence.
Heather - Thanks you... I hear that you need Calcium to process protein - and protein is important to building muscle, which in turn helps you burn more fat... so, I am all over the non-fat, 80 calorie Yogurt. :]
Betty - ((HUGS!!))
KJ - the T-shirts must have made it easier to keep track of all those darlings. Wonderful pics.
Becca - Mahvelous!

As always, these days, I am swamped. Sorry I couldn't respond to everyone. Hello to all you new folk! I hope I have time to chat with all of you, soon.
Hugs for everybody!

Melanie - I have never been diagnosed by a doctor as I hate going there, but I know I have wear and tear, OA, from previous X rays, and all the symptoms of RA, aching thumb joints, hips, wrists etc. Sometimes all over. I just take pain killers when it's bad. It very much comes and goes. I take a pain killer most nights. I don't want another diagnosis to go on my travel insurance and there is no cure. I do take cod liver oil and eat a lot of oily fish, but more for my chloresterol than anything else. Too much alcohol doesn't help! The worst thing is damp weather.
As for the ice cream, I'm very much of the opinion that "a little of what you fancy does you good".
CICO.

Betty - Sweetie, you definitely deserve to go home now. You tell the boss I said you could. For sure angel on your shoulder today. (((Hugs)))

Oh my, I'm old (66, will turn 67 in November) and apparently don't care what people think any more. Good thing my daughters did not go shopping with me for the kettle bell. First off, I did not like the look and/or shape of the adjustable weight kettle bell. It is elongated and I was afraid I might smack the floor with it. My house is entirely ceramic tile. Also the added weight plates seemed to wiggle and for sure turned round and round when moving the kettle bell. So I ended up buying a 25# weight. I stood there in the middle of Dick's Sporting Goods and did a few Russian kettle bell swings to make sure it seemed a good fit. Oh well.

Good for you! That justable one might have drove you nuts if it would have clink every with every swing!1 -
Go Janetr! ! !
KJ - I love your pics and the tale of your outing. You are a very special woman. The outfits are terrific.
My DDIL emails me to tell me that the two night visit of an old friend with two children did not go well. Apparently their parenting styles were completely different. Ooooooops! :ohwell: I remember that situation well. What you thought was a perfectly reasonable person turns out to be an alien.
Just to cheer us all up, yet another pic of Bea.

Janetr I think I shall go to Dick's Sporting Goods and emulate you. I, too, am in need of a 25# kettlebell, and do not care what people think. You have inspired me.
Re Hugs back at ya!
Melanie Rheumate is safe. It has 2 kinds of B vitamins and an anti-oxidant in it. I don't know if it will help your arthritis or not...it is really just a vitamin supplement.
KJ You are beautiful and the kids are gorgeous and charming! Thanks for the uplifting photos!
Betty What a wild story! I hope you found the right stone this time!!!
Penny As usual, I savored your posts and will be re-reading them again later. Tender Pork Forehead??? LOL!!! Penny and Heather: Concerning Treasure Hunts, one year the "other grandma" and I put together a neat treasure hunt at the beach for the kids with a treasure chest full of gems and bullion buried in the sand. We convinced them a boat on the horizon was a pirate ship leaving the bay, and "found" a treasure map in a bottle that had "washed up" on the shore (the 3 year old found it). It was a big hit. That was in August. Three months later, in November, my then 6 year old grandson was asked to draw and color a picture of something he was grateful for...so he drew a treasure map and beach scene and asked the teacher to write on it, "I am thankful for treasure hunts on the beach." Made me tear up. I still have his picture on my refrigerator. They remember things like that forever.
@mrspaws91 Congrats! Exciting times!
Meg I will look up that joke, sounds like one I would like! Sorry about your pup and especially sorry about your daughter's friend.
Teri in Tennessee and @evinston Welcome! You found a good group!
Carol I am thinking your modifications on that spinach pie recipe would work fine. Heather???
Mousemom I've heard ToughMudder is fun and challenging - good luck!

Well, we visited another CCRC today. The apartments and cottages are smaller than the last facility we visited, but the assisted living quarters are the same size as the skilled and memory care units and roomier than either of the other two facilities we have visited. The food was good, there were lots of residents out and about, walking their dogs or using the exercise facilities. They have a nice salt water pool and a stocked fishing pond. No bad smells. The residents were very friendly and a few voluntarily told us how happy they were that they had decided to move there. It had a good "feel" to it. Two more to look at, then we will begin narrowing the field. We are just doing homework and plan to get on a waiting list or two so we have our toes in the door if we want to go that route down the road.

Today started off with coming down to my kitchen sink and finding the dish rag bound up in the garbage disposal. Now, my kids are 22 and 25 and neither would own up to it. Oh my goodness I was ticked off. It was stuck in there so well that I couldn't get it to budge. DH and I know WE didn't do it. Arghhhhh. DH got the rag out and the disposal working.
I didn't walk in the morning or at lunch today so I'm terribly behind on my steps for today. Looks like I'll need to hit the treadmill tonight because it's too hot outside. And, I am going to try Day 2 (for the week) of my kettle bell workout. I just might be getting the hang of it. I may be starting out slowly, but I'm definitely feeling the results (if soreness counts, lol). I need to get my measurements so I can really track my progress.
Carrie in SC – Sorry about your down day (couple days back probably by now). Those days are challenging. Hopefully you had a better day yesterday. I’m new to the kettle bell swing, too. Tried with 10 lbs one time last week and I couldn’t continue for a whole week since I was so sore! Tried 5 lb day yesterday, and that was better. I’m going to try 8 lb tonight. I’m using hand weights at this point before I buy a kettle bell.
Katla – Congrats on keeping your weight within your safety zone after your trip to Virginia. That’s quite an accomplishment! I have an upcoming trip, and I hope I’m as successful.
Susan, tonimarsh1, Eava57, frankiesgirl21, Teri in Tennessee and xtrasmallone – Welcome! Glad you found a place to be accountable here with us. I am a newbie, too, and everyone is really helpful and supportive.
Re – Ranting is helpful, lol. I am with you on finding a normal balance. There are so many opinions on what you should/shouldn’t eat. For me…it’s about the long haul...getting back on track at the next meal and not jumping off the cliff when I’ve indulged a bit. It’s taken me a long time to get here (just turned 55). My diet isn’t clean, by any stretch of the imagination. Is eating cleaner or making healthy choices something I try to do? Yes, sure. And I’m successful most days (by my own standards, not anyone else’s by the way). But yesterday I stayed within my calorie goal and ate Long John Silver’s for dinner. That’s probably one of the most sodium laden, non-healthy choices I could have made. End of the world? No. Delay my weight loss? Maybe, we’ll see on Sunday. But sometimes I need something less-than-healthy. I’m determined to lose the weight I’ve gained. I can’t do it by eating like yesterday every day. But once in a while it’s a trade-off I’m willing to make. A few grapes and yogurt? I’d say you shouldn’t worry even a little bit.
Vicki in Grand Island – Congrats on the 2.5 loss!
Becca – Good for you on the tennis. That’s a sport I was never able to do…tried, but my coordination wouldn’t cooperate. Breaks are good! Glad the Bayer does the trick! And congrats on the loss!
Exermom – I meant to ask you about this before. What’s Mexican Train?
Melanie from Baton Rouge – Great job on starting to get back on track. I think starting back is one of the hardest parts.
NYKaren – I wish just one day I would wake up motivated to paint something. Oh my goodness that will never happen!
Betty – How many loose stones are hanging out in your office and where is your office located? I might have to take a road trip. That’s hilarious! I sure hope you find yours!
Heather – Bea is adorable!!

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .
Good Evening Ladies,
VickiNE, I have tried and tried but can’t figure out who your DSS is that started the FB page? (some kind of son?) Some days I’m just such a blond, it’s just covered by lots of gray. Congrats on the 2 ½ pound loss. I hope you don’t find it again.
Barbie, I know you walk your dogs before the sun comes up, so I sure wasn’t worried about them being out in the heat of the day. LOL
Janetr, what a fantastic picture of you girls. Thank you for sharing. I absolutely love your sister’s red and white polka dotted sweater. Please tell her I’ll gladly take it when she is finished with it.
Eava, welcome. This is a great place for support and motivation. You are welcome to share your weigh-ins any time. We love hearing about successes and we often share our failures. You will get the hang of us quickly if you come every day. Congrats on your loss. You know what it takes. Good luck with your journey.
Heather, so glad you wrote some on your memoir. I know it’s something you have to work up to but I feel like you will have such a sense of accomplishment when you finish.
Tracey, welcome. Please always do sign your posts with your name or I’ll get confused. … not that it takes a lot. There are lots of us that don’t like exercise but I am doing some most of the time. I just know that at my age I need it to stay as healthy as possible. Come here often for support and great ideas.
Melanie, sorry to hear you had a bad night. I do hope you can find what works best for your pain.
Miriam, that cat picture is too funny!
Heather, I love the animals. Sure hope the kids do, too. Hiding them is such a cute idea. (later) It is just such a good thing that SC is so far from England, so I won’t get arrested for Bea-napping. That smile and beautiful face just call to me!!!
Teri TN, welcome. A lot of us have been where you are with one day finally seeing what we’ve become and saying, “This is enough”. You have come to a great place for support and often answers to any questions. We have a ton of experience and expertise on lots of subjects. Just ask.
Meg, that is so sad about the boys and the train.
Katla, I enjoyed your word play with the pot in pots or plants in pots or pot as a potted plant. Enjoy your yoga. Does Heather know that pot is the American term for marijuana?
Penny, so glad you got to “swoop” in as I always enjoy hearing from you. That menu was something else. Sorry about your voice but glad you didn’t feel bad.
NYKaren, good for you on getting the room painted. I’m sure you burned some calories doing that.
Betty, so glad you found a second stone and I hope it’s the real one. I do have my prongs checked at a jeweler’s’ every couple of years just to be safe.
KJ, great pictures and I love the shirts. Smart move.
Janetr, good going on getting the kettle bell. Have fun while you get in tip top shape.
Renee, good for you on your kettle bell workouts. I’d think some soreness means you are doing some good. Keep up the great work.
to any Newbies that I missed. Come often and join in the chat. This thing works!! Please sign your post with what you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to respond to you. Also a location is great, be it specific or general. We are happy to have you join us.
It has rained on and off all day and sometimes rather hard. At least no flooding like some parts of the country. I needed to go work out but the rain slowed me down. It’s our anniversary and DH and I decided to hang close and make it a movie day. We just like being together. He volunteered to take me out to dinner but knows I really prefer to eat in and control what I’m eating. Ladies, I’m sending (((((Hugs))))) to all of you and best wishes for your successes.
Sending love and good thoughts to all of you and I hope you all have a Happy and Healthy Day!
Words I live by:
Savor. I have to slow down and savor every bite.
and
Opportunity. Each day offers new opportunities for good health and happiness if we just look for them and choose them.
I Love you,
DJ

KJ, you have a beautiful family of grandchildren, and I think the crazy yoga pants are kind of cute, too.
And, Heather, I always enjoy seeing Bea. She is such a cutie.
I am procrastinating dealing with the figs on my kitchen counter, but I have to face them soon. I'm going to try my hand at mock strawberry jam.

Mary and Heather, thanks.
Heather, I think you and I are wihin a few weeks the same age. I know your BD is the latter part of October and mine is the 5th of November.
Karen, go for it girl. I stopped two emloyees and asked about the adjustable kettle bells, neither of them knew as much as I do about them which is very little. The first guy said, I didn't even know they made adjustable kettle bells. Ugh

DJ Could DSS be: dear second son or dear stepson or dear second sister or dear sucky spinster or dang spiffy spinner or damned sunk sinner? I dunno either...LOL!
Janetr glad you thought through the adjustable kettle bell idea, I don't want things slipping and clinking about while I'm swinging...
Extra Figs and Tomatoes I have a dehydrator, so when I have extra stuff I just dehydrate it and store it in the freezer in plastic bags until I want it later. Yummy. I am so glad I have a dehydrator but I guess you could do it in the oven or a warming drawer.

KJ love the pictures.
Betty I lost my stone years ago because I did not pay attention to making sure the prongs were secure. I did have to get a new stone. I too had to go through getting it cut off and resized. I did add extra prongs and do take off my ring when I work around the house. Sorry you have to go through the hassle.
Paid for a policeman's lunch today. It was on my list of things I wanted to do to show support for our police force.

I didn't have any defined goals for July, but I do for August:
1)Prepare for a 10k in November.
2)Exercise everyday (some form).
3)Try to figure out a strength training program I can stick to. I'm good at cardio, but I really need to get in some
4) Reach 10k steps on days I don't have "planned" exercise and 15K steps on days that I do exercise.
5) Try to measure/weigh food as much as possible.
6) Log, Log, Log my food! (even if it's bad day).
7)Go "lower carb" - not so much bread, pasta, chips or (gulp) French Fries.
Since I started (really on July 30) I am down 3 pounds, so I know the system works.3 -

I turn 50 on August 21st. Eek!
I just tuned into this thread and just started my journey early in July so my goals for July were mostly just to diet and exercise and do my best. I lost 5.8 pounds and tried a variety of exercises. I liked pool running the best. I have 80 pounds to lose to get to 140 as i'm 5'3" and my doctor says that's what's healthy. I am thrilled with my month, to have made a good start. I've got two tiny wineglasses. One is filled with pearl beads. For each pound i lose i put a bead in the other glass. I have five in there now, all hard won.
My goals for August:
lose another 6 pounds
walk my dog three times a day as our dogpark is temporarily unavailable
strength train twice a week
try cooking some animal proteins [salmon, chicken]
I've read that motivation is what gets us started but habit is what keeps us going.3 -

Thanks Barbie and everyone else sending me good wishes!
Winding down here with the last few packing items. Tomorrow will be hot and busy. Moving van, car transport, giving the house a good vacuum and clean down before hitting the road south. For once in a very long time I am actually feeling some joy as to what it to come in my life. I hold all of you dear to my heart and think of y'all through out my days. Throwing in the last load of laundry and hitting the bed.

I have a horrible confession and just need to share. My niece came over for the night yesterday. To pick up my 25 lb Kettlebell and for me to show her how to use it. She shared news that she just found out that she was 5 weeks pregnant. She just lost 30 lbs by Jillian Michales workout, the 30 day shred and HIIT walk run training. She is 35 and is getting married in Oct. She just shared the news with her DF by sending him a picture of pink camo booties and he sent her the most beautiful message back. This morning she wanted me to show her how to use the Kettlebell. She looked it up on Google and it said it would be safe. I had her work on form without weight and she only swung the Kettlebell a couple of times. She left here and went to my sister in law's where her mother and son were. Not long after she had a miscarriage . Of course I feel responsible.

Mary First, my condolences to you, your niece, and her fiancé on the loss of their baby. As I have mentioned before (and others on this thread have, too) I do understand the grievous loss, having lost my little Joy at 28 weeks' gestation.
10-15% of all pregnancies terminate spontaneously in the first trimester.
The normal uterus (normal shape, cervix, placenta position within the uterus, & hormones) is an incredibly safe environment for a normal fetus (that is, no genetic defects or infections, etc). Women have been in serious motor vehicle accidents, fallen down stairs, etc, and only a tiny percentage of miscarriages occur as a result of even serious accidents, much less swinging a kettlebell. There is nothing about a kettlebell swing that would cause a miscarriage...quite frankly, the butt, pelvis, and thigh tightening during kettlebell swinging is actually similar to intercourse (sorry) which isn't prohibited or discouraged unless the woman has an incompetent cervix.
This was a coincidence. I hope they will have some genetic testing done.
Try, try, try not to link the kettlebell swinging to the miscarriage, Mary, it just isn't a logical conclusion.
