:flowerforyou: Barbie - I noticed you said you were going away this weekend and will be eating at a Greek restaurant. Don't know if You were concerned about what to eat there or if you were saying you can't wait to eat there! But if it is because you don't know what to eat, I personally love greek food and have hummus (1/4 cup is 150 calories, 7 carbs, 3 protein) which I mix with their veggies and skewered chicken kabobs. The pita bread is the one to watch out for, but you use it to scoop everything together. I only eat half of the pita and I tear that half up into pieces to grab the food with.

The other thing that is yummy is the Greek Gyro sandwich which is made with lamb w/ cucumber yogurt sauce, lettuce, onion and tomatoes nestled in a small pita. (417 calories, 32 carbs and 22 protein). So I make sure I allow for the carbs and the calories, although that really hasn't been my problem. (Can't seem to get enough calories, and have been eating more fruit to make them up) At any rate, the Gyro is very filling and so yummy. Good luck this weekend!

:flowerforyou: Hi I’m back, what a lot of posts to catch up on, I’ve been reading for almost an hour now and still haven‘t caught up with everyone, will have to read the rest later.

:glasses: The weather in Brid was mostly sunny with a cool sea breeze, but it rained most of Wednesday so we spent most of that day playing ten pin bowling and wasting our money in the amusement arcade (me and mum stuck to the 2p slot machines) we then went to a nearby pub and spent a few hours drinking whilst my dad and uncle played pool. When we left the pub, most of the café’s had shut shop because of the rain so we had to scout around for something to eat! :frown: Managed to find a café that was about to close but made a sandwich to take back to eat at our digs. We went out to a pub later that evening and saw most of the Spain v Germany football match on their large screen tv.

:flowerforyou: Denise managed to keep away from the chips but must admit to having a fish, an ice cream and a strawberry waffle. Apart from the cooked breakfast I feel as if I haven‘t eaten proper food just snacks for the whole 3 days . Back to the healthy eating now though. I’m going to Asda later this morning to stock up on fruit/vegies and proper food. Hopefully I’ll soon lose the weight I put on. Goodness knows how much I’d have put on if I’d stayed longer.

:flowerforyou: Ainslieglen I know what you mean about posting, I sometimes feel what I say is boring because I never do anything or go anywhere and others sound to have such interesting lives. As I get to know everyone though, it gets a bit easier to relax and not think so much about what I am writing but just imagine I am talking to friends.

:flowerforyou: Jeanie we have a house cat - one day about 8 years or so ago he went out, ran back inside never to venture out again until recently. He’s now started to sit outside on the patio in the sunshine. Frankie doesn’t bother him but Tara sometimes tries to chase him if she sees him outside. He didn’t come home one night last week and we were very worried about him - he’s getting on a bit now and I was worried he’d forget where he lived, but thankfully he came home the next morning and has been going out most days for a few hours. I do worry though if I can’t see him and DD had a sleepless night while I was in Bridlington as he stayed out all night one night.

:flowerforyou: Kackie what a good saying (I’ve not heard it before) If you fail to plan you plan to fail, pity I didn’t read it before my trip as I didn’t plan anything - if I go again next year I will have to remember to take some health snacks/fruit with me to eat when I get a bit peckish. It's hard to plan what to eat where to eat when you are with others isn't it - my uncle always wanted a big meal of steak pie and chips :noway: I was never that hungry.

Can't believe it's half past eight already, better get changed to go shopping.

Welcome to all the newbies - you'll love it here

Catch up with all again soon

    Good morning ladies.

We're looking at a very warm day today, although it's overcast at present.

I had to send DH out into the garden to remove a stag beetle from my sight. It's silly but they absolutely terrify me. I was once bitten on the big toe by one (it was on my 17th birthday but I will never forget it!) There was no way I'd go into the garden knowing it was about. Hopefully it won't come back for a while. It's bad enough that we've got a bees nest in one of our trees, although I would never remove it.

Kathy, Aunt Sally's Common frog on a leaf is one of my favourites too. DH and I both agree that we love the smaller items that you can handle. Her small bronzes have an extremely tactile quality. Mum-in-law has a bronze copy of a leopard that was originally commissioned by the City of York as a gift for the Queen. The original is in silver. I absolutely love it. She also has a bronze head of a boxer dog which fits comfortably in the hand and I could sit and hold it for ever.

Laura, what news on the baby front?

Faye, well done on the 3lb loss!

Barbiecat, I definitely know about the boy who cried wolf! That's the problem though, I know in the end that the little boy really did need help and I worry that my dad will be the same so I never ignore him.

Michele, I'm on the hunt for a copy of Lalofit! Mum-in-law is going up in sizes. She is huge compared to a year ago, but can't get out of the wheelchair so gets very little exercise.

Viv, I've only ever been to Bridlington for the day, but I do love that area. We're off up to York next weekend and I really want to visit Castle Howard as I haven't been there for years and years.

I need to do some grocery shopping today. My fridge and freezer are fairly full, but I just don't feel like cooking today. My intention is to buy something which will need minimal preparation. DH would be more than happy with bread and cheese etc, so I may do something like that with a salad for him. I may have edamame and pea salad with mint and humous. Delicious and so easy to throw together.

Maybe I overdid the sit-ups a little the last couple of days! I can really feel it in my (almost non-existent) stomach muscles. I think I will maybe only do half the amount today to try to give my body a bit of time to rest - I don't want to do myself any damage at this stage.

    Time to get moving.

Have a good day, whatever you are up to. Keep up the water intake and be mindful of your eating.

Well, it's off to the shower, and if I hear any strange noises, I will probably think that a giant mouse is coming to attack me in there like some perverted episode of Psycho! Just wanted to give you all your laugh for the day.

Hello everyone and a Happy Friday to all,

Faye - gratz on the 3 pounds!

Greek - I love Greek food. Medditerian food is pretty health as long as you eat Greek portions and not American ones. What gets me is the rice pilaf. Although, I've learned to get the take home box on the way in and divide it up before I eat. We (DD and I) eat a lot of Greek stuff for lunches.

Last night we had Hawaiian chicken kabobs with zuccini, pineapple, onions, peppers and mushrooms. We are just learning to eat mushrooms and I am just learning how to cook them. Everyone liked them on the kabobs, so I guess that will become a standard veggie to have. I love to cookout even in bad weather or during the winter.

Tomorrow we are going white water rafting on the Rio Grande river up by Royal Gorge. It is a halfday course in and out of Santa Fe, so we are saving money by not having to get a hotel. Even hubby and DS are excited about going. It's hard to get them away from their computers. lol Next year I want to do an all day course on the Chama River where you have to carry your stuff and hike out. I bet that will still be pristine as not as many people will want a 2.5 mile hike back to the shuttle bus. We could not afford that one this year as you have to stay over the night before and the night after.

I can only imagine the number of posts that will be waiting for me on Sunday.

I spent most of yesterday surfing the web looking for high fiber low cal lunch ideas for hubby. Then last night I made a grocery store run for ingredients. Today I packed him a sandwich made with multi-grain Sandwich Thins, thinly sliced ham, Laughing Cow Swiss, lettuce, dill relish, and thinly sliced cucumber. It literally cut his usual white bread bologna and cheese by half the calories and fat, not to mention bumping the fiber. Instead of what used to be his usual bag of cheetos, I made a healthier version of my potato salad made from freshly dug new potatoes from my garden and dressed with olive oil instead of salad dressing. Still looking for an alternative for Nutter-butter cookies. So far of all the store bought cookies they seem to be the healthiest. Now he says opening his lunchbox has become an adventure.

All the cat stories made me smile. Violet hasn't brought me any trophies since its been raining so much. Off to walk with Leslie.

Well, they say honesty is the best policy. So, I updated my log in to show that I've actually gained weight.:embarassed: (I was hoping to lose those extra pounds quickly and start back from where I was before.)

I've discovered that burning 300 calories a day takes a lot more focus. Hopefully, this new exercise goal will pay off!:ohwell:

    Hi all,
I went roller skating again yesterday and my hamstrings are really let me know about it. I have to get my workouts in early this morning as I am then off to help my father's girlfriend out in her yard. she has a lovely place overlooking the sound on Cameno Island. It will be good to see them and burn some calories gardening.

No move on the scale. I am officially stuck. Its okay I am maintaining. I am sure that things will break free eventually.

I hop you all have a wonderful day.

   Eli William joined us yesterday at 4:58pm MST weighing in at 7.4 and 19 1/4" long. I was put in charge of getting the computer set up to Skype my son in to the birth and it took us 3 hrs working over the phone with me going everywhere possible to get it to hook up...finally did with 45 min left before Eli was born. He was supposed to be born in a water birth...he was born bath tub! Really cool birth.

More later...I have to get to work.

    Happy Friday to all!

Completely out of touch on all the posts, not even time to log food or exercise...

No surprise that weigh in shows me up 1.1 lb (Robin my .5 comment was wishful thinking... ;} ).

Hard to make a fresh start on what is usually "Beer Friday". Sunday I'm on call all day which usually means tied to my pc, no exercise and poor food choices. This time I'll try to have plenty of raw veggies handy to chomp and set a timer to get up and DO something at least a few minutes every hour.

    Wish me success!

    Hugs to all,

Just popped in to cool off, get a drink and change clothes as I am wet from the inside out! Dang Florida is hot! :noway: Helping DH get the garden and yard in shape to leave for a couple weeks. Why oh why do I always leave getting the timers and sprinklers set up to the last minute??? :frown: One works and one doesn't. Bought a new one and I don't think it's working right either. You'd think I would learn...

Laura - Hooray! Glad to hear Eli William has arrived safe and sound!

    Well, back at it.

:flowerforyou: Hi everyone .....and ..... welcome to the world Eli William!! He's going to be spoilt rotten I think!!

:ohwell: Cloudy today but muggy. We don't seem to have your lovely weather Amanda!! I did manage to get mum to the chiropody clinic. she was made up with her outing ...albeit a ten minute wheel up to our small health centre!!

Cats.... when DH and were 1st married we "lived in" in the Hotel de France in St. Helier Jersey C.I. We had a one room bedsit and shared facilities. We had a lovely ginger kitten called "Sausage" who stayed in our room. We used to take him out in the car down to the five mile beach and.. buy him an ice cream! We did let him out in the early morning to negotiate the fire escape and let him come back, leaving the door ajar. One morning I heard this growling noise that cats make when they have a little present in their mouth. Bleary eyed ,I thought he had a baby hedgehog. Ouch! ...mind those prickles eh? Once awake and ready to rescue this innocent prey I had to laugh...Sausage had bought in.... a paintbrush head!!
Another time, having left the cat in our 1st floor room, we arrived back after lunch service to find the cat had gone. Vanished through a locked door. First thoughts were that we'd been burgled but couldn't see anything missing but the cat. We were outside calling "Sausage" ..:embarassed: .how silly did that sound! ... when one of the groundsmen came out and asked if we had a ginger cat. "Yep" we said ...then he told us the cat had been sunbathing on the window sill (We used to leave it open for him) he was lapping up the warmth when he fell asleep, rolled over and fell off. Boy was he surprised when he fell! He scampered into the bushes and did come back when we called him!! ...bless! We really missed him when he got feline leukemia after we came back to UK. He was well travelled as he had a trip to stay with DH's parent when we were in accomodation that couldn't have pets and then back to Jersey.

Scales were the same today ....nearly a whole week at 154lb ...:frown: it's gotta budge sometime surely.

I've had news that my Dad is now in hospital. My stepmum rang and said she had to call an ambulance as his legs wouldn't work! On top of a bad chest infection which hospitalised him a month ago.
So we're awaiting news of heart and neurological tests. Gillam Barrie(Not sure of the name)syndrome/disease. He may have had this 8 years ago when he was very ill. He was on life support with not much of a chance. Kidneys had packed up,bowel perforated . The machines were switched off ....and he's still with us now!! He had some evidence of muscle wasting then and maybe this has reoccurred. Never raining but pouring comes to mind!!

I'm intending to do some drawer tidying tonight ... as a prelude to sorting the cruise clothes out. I think it's time to get the charity bags filled with the "Big" clothes I have. I'd be ashamed to get back to them now ...and I'm not ...am I?? I know it only says 4lb lost on the ticker but I did actually lose some lbs before I found MFP ...honest!!!

    So ...it's BFN
:drinker: Have a great weekend folks .....enjoy but don't lose sight of your goals.
    Jackie
    just a quick post end....

Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my shape to keep.
Please no wrinkles, Please no bags
Please lift my butt before it sags.
Please no age spots, Please no grey
As for my belly, Please take it away.
Keep me healthy, Keep me young,
And thank you Lord, For all you've done.

Just popping by for another quick cat story. When I was a child, we didn't have cats because my dad was not fond of them. They used to sleep with the windows open, and didn't have a screen on one. The neighbor lady had about 6 cats. You guessed it - in the middle of the night, one of the kitties came in the window and got in bed with mom and dad. The hilarious part: My dad, in his underwear, grabbed the cat, went to the neighbor's, rang the doorbell, and when the women answered, handed her the cat, saying "I'll thank you to keep your ***** out of my bed!" as he walked off.

Edit: first time I ever got bleeped. It is a word for cat that starts with p and ends with y. My mother would die if she knew that I was saying things that got censored!

    Mary--

I think you win the prize for hilarious cat stories. It was fortunate I was sitting down when I read both of them!!

    Laura--

Congrats on the new edition to your family. Welcome Eli!!:flowerforyou:

    Jackie--

Your cat story reminds me of "Grady"--a cat that I inherited when I neighbor moved and couldn't take him. This was back about 25 years ago. He was a black and white sweetie with yellow eyes. He was such a mooch he actually had a bed and a food dish at one of my other neighbors as he "visited" there regularly during the day, but always came home to me. He liked to sleep on top of the tv--this was LOONG before flat screens, or there would have been a problem!!

Anyway, he would sleep on the tv while it was turned on, and to keep the spot warm, I had a goose neck lamp that was clamped to the tv stand so it would shine on top of the tv set. He slept up there almost all the time. He was a big boy, so the inevitable happened. One day he rolled over and landed in a heap on the floor. :noway: :noway: He stood up, his whiskers pink with embarrassment, and very regally walked into the bedroom. You could almost hear him saying. "Why are you laughing? I MEANT to do that!!"

His other amazing feat was to creep along a ledge about 3 inches wide and go from patio to patio, until he arrived three doors down--much to the surprise of my neighbor who kept birds in a cage on HER patio!!:noway:  Did I mention, my apartment was on the THIRD FLOOR???:noway:  I installed some wire mesh at the end of the patio where he was making his "escape" --something my neighbor and her birdies greatly appreciated.

    Suzzeque--

Thanks for reminding me about the recipe calculator. I saw something about it but forgot to check it out.

    Barbiecat--

Have a good trip this weekend. It won't be long until you are heading south.

Well, so far, since last Saturday, I have walked 21.5 miles, so I guess summer must be here. Today is grocery shopping day for my mom, and tonight I am supposed to have dinner with my friend Thomy, but I am not sure what time or what I am supposed to bring, so I guess I will have to wing it.

Time to get going. Have a good weekend, everyone.

Hi everyone, great losses listed by some of you in this group. Fantastic jobs.
I'm 58 and just started on this site this week.
I have to find some motivation somewhere and so far this looks like a good place.
My main concern is emotional and boredom eating.
I think if I can get myself on the right path for a week or two it will before easier.
    Thanks for listening.:flowerforyou:

Welcome to the newbies! Peggy emotional eating, especially boredom, is a real problem for many of us. Finding new interests, like posting on this site, gardening, taking a walk, knitting, reading, dancing........anything to fill in the void. I am usually very busy, but I go from being "over the top" busy, to having nothing to do. I also need to find an interest. Let me know your thoughts.
By the way....we are almost neighbors as I live in RI. because on this thread we have women from Canada, England, Greece etc.
One day at a time and track EVERYTHING! You'll be surprised how those little pickings add up!
    Good luck!

    Happy Friday, everyone!

Just got back from a picnic lunch at the beach with 2 neighbors. It is hot and humid again...well it IS July...so we took our chairs, lunch and umbrella and had a nice couple of hours. Ended up staying in the ocean more than in the chairs and it felt so good. It is not far from me...only 6 miles, so I should take more advantage than I do. I usually just jump off our dock into the creek. Still...the beach is nice and the ocean is very soothing.

Laura: Welcome, welcome to cute little Eli William! I hope everyone is doing well. Enjoy this exciting time !
Barbiecat, Faye and Mary: Safe travels and enjoy your time away!
Peggy: WELCOME...you have found a great source of encouragement and friendship on this journey. For motivation, I recommend you reading Suezzque's signature regarding motivation. It has helped me on many occasions.

Chiclet: You made me want to go find some greek food! I too really enjoy it but you gave some great suggestions of healthier choices
Amanda: Good for you for the sit ups. Hope the soreness is leaving. Still....it means you are DOING something good!
Jeannie: Your rafting trip sounds FUN. Have a great outing!
Suezzque: Regarding the lunches for your DH: sounds like you have found some good options. I would also recommend buying the whole wheat Pita pockets as well as the sandwich thins. I often fill them with either some left-over roasted vegies and hummas, a bit of tuna or chicken salad, peanut butter with some thin sliced apple or pear, as well as regular deli meats. They do not get mushy when filled with moist things like salads and the filling doesn't fall out. My DH also enjoyed some pickles & olives for a bit of salty taste instead of chips for a healthier choice. A handful of almonds are also good. A few graham crackers or vanilla wafers filled with peanut butter are sweet but not awful calorie picks for his cookie fix.
Robin: Good for you getting on the skates again. I'll bet you will skate your way off of your plateau SOON!
Auntiebk: Good for you for planning with the raw veggies. When you are so busy that is the very best thing to do. Hope you have a good weekend
Mookiemoomoo: Way to go on the gym! 45 minutes is a lot for the first go!
Jackie: I enjoyed your little ending prayer!

I missed a lot I know, but am grateful for each of you and wishing you a good weekend filled with good choices. Take care, Kackie:heart::heart:

So far he'll eat Ezekiel bread as toast with cream cheese or nut butter but not on a sandwich and has discovered he likes the Sandwich thins. I'm so proud of him for taking these baby steps. He's already switched from several regular sodas a day to drinking tea or crystal light. I found a low carb cookie recipe online I plan to try on him this weekend. Will let you know if it passes the hubby test.

I forgot to tell you that I made a lowcarb Impossible Berry Pie this week, and it was pretty tasty at only 180 cals and 19 carbs per serving. I used strawberries and blueberries. I didn't have agave nectar, so I put in a couple of tablespoons of splenda, and it turned out fine. Here is a link to the recipe. Enjoy!

I joined this site a week ago. I'm trying to find some good groups to join, and this sounds like a good one. I will be 53 next month and am determined to lose at least 50 pounds. I, too, have a problem with emotional eating, which is a constant battle because I suffer from depression. It is being treated and I am much better, but I still have those days. :frown: I firmly believe that I am addicted to sugar as well. It seems when I have a spoonful of anything sweet, it leaves me wanting more. I've tried to go without, but end up bingeing after a couple weeks.

Well, just wanted to introduce myself. I have some things to take care of. I'll check back later. Bye!

    :flowerforyou: Welcome Erica-q!

I just joined this site at the beginning of the week and it has the best thing Ii have ever done. I have received a lot of advice and encouragement. This site is perfect for you! I have contributed on things I have experienced or know about and I wanted you to know that I too suffer from depression but it is under control. I have had it all my life and have hit rock bottom numerous times and just 3 years ago was suicidal and hospitalized. After FINALLY finding the correct dosage and medicines working in conjunction with each other, I can honestly say that I can't remember when I was really depressed. I still have low points once in awhile, but everybody does, they are just not like they were before. Besides the medicine, possibly therapy, I think the most important thing that helped me was surrounding myself with positive people. Depressive people can't afford to be around negative people. There were many times when I just wanted to hole up and be alone in the dark for days if I could. Fortunately, the positive friends that knew my situation wouldn't stand for it. I had been literally dragged out of my house to do something with them. Nothing major, getting tea or coffee or yogurt, but spending time talking with them. They always made me feel better and I was always glad I had went with them. I don't know if you have a support system for yourself, but use these women! They are the most cheery people I have ever come accross! Use them when you are feeling down and need to carry on a conversation with them. Someone is always on. Use them for the emotional eating times and have them talk you through it or suggest alternatives. Sorry ladies for volunteering you like I am, but something tells me this would be a piece of cake for you all.

It was no big deal for me to eat an entire double layer white cake with confetti on it. (It had to be this when I was depressed) Sometimes I would plan my depressive weekend that I felt coming up and because it wasn't in stock I would have to order the cake ahead of time. Talk about planning your depression! :noway: I could eat the entire cake on the weekend if I paced myself. :embarassed: I know I could eat the whole thing in one day, I just couldn't get myself to do it and look to piggy to myself. And I am not even going to go to eating in the car and other strange places. I'll skip that part if you don't mind.:ohwell:

What got me out of that vicious circle was joining MFP and doing the food diary. I have entered every day religiously! Sometimes I plan my meals for the next day on it, so all I have to do is bring it up and eat what it says so I don't have to think about it. However when I do have my moments where I WANT something and I have eaten all I am supposed to for the day I will look at the possible choices I have and still put them in my diary. This way whatever shows up with the least calories and/or carbs, I will eat that. The lesser of two evils.
    ,
Usually I go with my old stand by peanut butter and will have 1 teaspoon, BUT, sometimes I have 3 teaspoons cuz I just need to! I will eat 3 teaspoons rather than it's equivalent (1 Tablespoon) because it allows me the indulgence of dipping 3 times. it's all psychological. But my new thing to eat is Yoplait's Thick and Creamy Blueberry Pie. OMG! It is way better than regular yoplait. I feel like I am really eating a friggin blueberry pie. I can't wait to try the other flavors!

So there's my journal for you. Hope it offers some encouragement. You can do it. It's taken me 34 years but I am doing it now. And I feel great!
    Good Luck!
