Banana's, Good or Bad?

An average Banana contains around 150 cal and about 30g of sugar (which is the same that's in an average sized mars bar) It doubles the sugar and cal that you find in most other fruits portions.

If you want the Mars bar eat the Mars bar, if you want the banana eat the banana. What i don't suggest is substituting one for the other. *Bananas are all good though, don't sweat the natural sugar content. I've yet to come across a natural source of food which is bad for a fully functioning human body.5

Half a banana is good. Bananas are rich in potassium.3

bananas give me the worst heartburn ever, so I'm going bad on this one.1

Well that's wrong for starters, 100g of banana is 89 calories and 12g of sugar which is way bigger than a mars bar which weighs 51g (in UK) and is 230 calories and 30.5g of sugar, so I would much rather have the banana, or 3 for that matter.
And if you want to talk about the sugar, here's the ingredients of a mars bar
Sugar, Glucose Syrup, Skimmed Milk Powder, Cocoa Butter, Cocoa Mass, Sunflower Oil, Milk Fat, Lactose, Whey Powder (from Milk), Palm Fat, Fat Reduced Cocoa, Barley Malt Extract, Emulsifier (Soya Lecithin), Salt, Egg White Powder, Hydrolysed Milk Protein, Natural Vanilla Extract, Milk Chocolate contains Milk Solids 14% minimum, Milk Chocolate contains Vegetable Fats in addition to Cocoa Butter21 -
My vote is delicious. Unfortunately for me, I don't control my intake of bananas too well, so I tend to buy other fruits and leave the bananas at the store. I see one, and I want one. Doesn't matter if I have just finished a meal.0

Bananas are good if you have the room for it in your food plan.4

Bananas are not good or bad, they are bananas. If it fits in your day calorie and macro-wise, go to town.19

Uh huh... and your point is what exactly? That sugar is evil? Nope. That you should sub bananas with Mars bars based on the sugar content?
Sugar is not evil.
A 58 g Mars bar has 271 calories. A 58 g banana has 52 calories. Bananas have all sorts of additional nutrients that your body needs. A Mars bar has very few. The sugars in bananas are naturally occurring. The Mars bar is added sugar. Am I saying don't eat Mars bars? Not at all. I am saying that subbing Mars bars for bananas is really dumb.9 -
Bananas are just bananas. Whether they're good or bad depends on how many you eat and when. You might want to check these numbers though cause sugar seems too high. Plus you cannot compare sugar from a natural food source as banana is, with a processed food, banana will always win!
For me it's my number pre-run snack on my long run days: half banana and a tsp of peanut butter.6 -
I'm going to go with good at adding carbs and fiber and potassium to your diet, bad at adding fat and protein to your diet.6

No food is good or bad, overall diet can be good or bad but not one food.4

Bananas are awesome pre-workout. Not to mention potassium, which you won't find in that Mars bar.1

Ha, no I was not suggesting replacing a banana for a mars bar! More that there maybe better fruit options than a banana.
The info I stated on a banana was gathered here;

Finally (in my opinion) sugar is a major cause for obesity and the more you can cut out the better2 -
I never really liked them. But they're ok with a lot of ice cream and toppings to cover up the taste of the banana making it a banana split dessert.

I try and eat 1-2 bananas on most days or else I end up cramping at a crucial point of a jui jitsu submission! My friend is the same, they are the best thing for preventing cramps in our calves. For me they are good!!!3

Without context to the entire diet (noun) and activity/lifestyle then saying one food item is good or bad makes no real sense.
The belief that high calorie or calorie dense = "bad" also makes zero sense without context.
A Tour de France cyclist eating 4,000 - 7,000 calories a day in high carb / high sugar foods is "good".
A sedentary office worker eating 4,000 - 7,000 calories of whatever people chose to describe as "good" is likely to have a bad outcome.9 -

The only thing that causes obesity is eating more calories than you burn.8 -

I am glad it is your opinion regarding sugar because overeating and not moving much is the major cause for obesity.6 -
Eating too many calories causes one to become obese. Not sugar.
That said, I'm trying to eat as little added sugar as possible. Only because I can't moderate it, therefore it wipes out my calorie deficit, causing my weight loss to stall.
But I'm fine with all natural occuring sugar. I'm more likely to overeat on cupcakes than bananas. Just my personal experience.6 -

I find that funny since I wasn't fat because of sugar. I got fat because I ate large bags of potato chips (Ruffles, yummy) on a daily basis and sat on my *kitten* doing nothing.7 -

Only if the sugar makes you eat more calories than you burn.
I like bananas. I like chocolate. There are days when I eat both of them.2 -

Bananas supported Hitler during WWII. After WWII many of them fled to South America, where we continue to hunt them down and eat them to this day. I am anti-banana and pleased with the government's actions.20

Wow I didn't know that. I hope you're just proving your point on potassium rather than advocating substituting them.0 -

Good for sure!! I eat tons of bananas!!0

Lost 55 pounds eating a banana or more daily. What'd you ask?4

I usually buy smaller bananas. They are about 90 calories (150 seems like a pretty big one) and 12 grams of sugar. Fruits that I get that often have that much or more sugar in a single fruit or normal-seeming serving are peaches, pears, and melons, among others. Bananas do tend to have slightly more calories on average (the peach with a similar amount of sugar had significantly fewer calories, whereas the pear had more calories but also more sugar and a lot more grams).
Anyway, I don't get why bananas seem to be this hot button thing, either loved or feared. I like them, eat them occasionally (more in the winter when they aren't competing with other fruits I prefer), and for me they are filling for the calories and quite convenient, especially before or after a good long workout. Would I base my diet on them? No, that seems silly to me.0 -
Yes I understand that if you eat more than you consume then you gain weight and vice a versa!! Simple fact is a lot of people, particularly children gain weight by over eating a diet far to high in sugar.
