Tracey in PA - Listen to your hubby regarding coyotoes. We have them here, they are just a natural part of the landscape. Usually one coyote by himself isn't a problem (unless you are walking a small dog that he considers a meal) but they usually run in packs. When there are multiples, they will attack a human if they feel you are in their territory or too close to them. If you walk at night make sure to carry a strong stick or pole that has a spike on it to use as a defensive weapon if you should encounter a coyote pack and they are eyeing you. They will not run away, they are not afraid of humans.

Out here from February to May they are breeding and are particulary aggressive to humans and pets.

Hello ladies..I'm Becky...I am 52...wow..52...fighting menapause and that wonderful weight gain. Does anyone else battle this?

Hi Becky! And yes the battle exists! I had an early menopause. Have been post menopausal for 12 years! I am 57. The weight gain and the inability to lose it is my biggest struggle. Also I continue to have intermittent hot flashes and night sweats. I was on HRT for 6 years as they were so debilitating. I take comfort in the fact that since joining MFP (556 days ago) and finding this wonderful group of women I have focused more on healthy (physical and mental) routines in my life. I am stronger and more confident as a woman both physically and mentally than ever before and if the weight comes off it's a bonus at this point. Hang in there!

Readers: Currently reading Mr Penubra's 24-Hour Bookstore for next months Library Bookclub.

Our son got approved for the apartment I found for him in Houston! He and his dad are now arranging for a mover.

Pip- :) My younger sister has MS. Thanks for your annual commitment to this disease.

    Wishing all a good Tuesday!

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .

    Good Morning Ladies,

KateUK, I love your magnet! Great picture. So nice to see you!

Heather, thank you for my Bea fix. I just want to reach out and hug and kiss her!!!!! Cool playhouse. I’m sure ya’ll were a help!

KarenVA, great pics. Safe travels, my friend.

Cheri, I’m just so excited for you and all that is going on in your life right now. Very proud of you for getting yourself out there and doing things. Keep up the great work.

Katla, I hope you had a great trip to the beach! relaxing-smiley-emoticon.gif

Judi, welcome. Please tell us a bit more about yourself to help us get to know you. Glad you had a good time, “Out of the house”. You’ll have to do it more often.

Tracey, you can call me “girl” any time you want. I feel the same way and always laugh when women are offended by the term. We don’t have any Grands either and I know what you mean. I love seeing the pictures.

Heather, I didn’t’ realize Edie was that young. She just seems older in her pictures for some reason. You can sure tell he love her Grandfather! I’m sure she loves you too but you must be the one taking the pictures because we usually see them together. Your trip to Cambridge sounds like a smart move.

Joyce, I do agree that it was wonderful how united the country was after 9/11. (later) so sorry to hear that the doctor won’t even take time to talk to you to really find out what is going on. grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

KJ, aren’t tears of happiness the absolute best! Not only books but you will get to introduce your “Peanut” to all sorts of things in their life. Great times ahead!

Marcelyn, hopefully you will get great results for the CT scan. Whatever it is, we are here with you. Even without any in the family, I think most of us would worry about cancer any time we get information like that. ((((Hugs))))

MicheleNC, ROFL that Vince will fix something for his convenience. He’s a man, alright. Lol

Kylie, welcome. It sounds like you have done great so just keep it up. Please tell us a bit more about yourself to help us get to know you. This is a great place for support and information so come often.

Kim, I love the idea of that shower for the Grandma and taking children’s books.

Janetr, I can’t believe you’ve waited this long to go to the doctor. I call that a bit more than a rash. (later) Glad you got to the doc and hope it heals quickly! (((Hugs)))

Penny, congrats on fact that it’s raining new clients. Way better than a long term drought. raining-hearts.gif

Maryann, I loved hearing about the young man making such a great recovery from his accident. Thanks for sharing.

Meg, thanks for checking in. You can do this so just start out with smaller steps.

Heather, glad you did some writing. I’m anxious to hear about our experience at the Michelin Star restaurant in Cambridge. Don’t think I’ve ever eaten at one.

Connie, welcome. I know it is very discouraging when we gain back weight. Just start back slowly and work into the new habits of good eating. We are here for you.

Pip, I love hearing about the race and what was going on with you two. You are both superstars to me!!!yellow-star-waves-smiley-emoticon.gif

pretty-pink-welcome-smiley-emoticon.gifto any Newbies that I missed. Come often and join in the chat. This thing works!! Please sign your post with what you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to respond to you. Also a location is great, be it specific or general. We are happy to have you join us.

For some reason I didn’t make time to read yesterday. I had Moose last night and a committee meeting before it. I spent a good bit of the afternoon at the computer preparing for the meeting. It has rained on and off the past few days and rather hard at times. I have two pages to catch up here but need to go get ready for line dancing. Please know I just love all you wonderful ladies and send the best thoughts for each of you.balloon.gif

Savor. I have to slow down and savor every bite.
    and

Barbie: I'm a reader, too. My favorites are usually romances, but not trashy, semi-disguised soft porn. :noway:

Penny Jean: Welcome to a great group. Tell us a bit about yourself. :flowerforyou:

Alison: I love Sleepy Time Vanilla tea.

KJLamore: Trash day at my house, too.

Lillian: I have an idea why work contributes to excessive snacking—stress & chronic fatigue. I gained weight every year that I worked. Congratulations on being retired. :flowerforyou:

Carey: I like the Harry Potter books, too. I've read them all but didn't actually finish the last one. It is still on my bookshelf. It was a bit gritty and I chickened-out. I don't read murder mysteries, either. :ohwell:

DJ: We didn't actually reach the beach when we went to the coast. We went to Sunday Market in Astoria, had lunch at a favorite pub in town and then DH was tired & wanted to come home. We had a good time & we'll make it to the ocean another day.

DH is doing dramatically better than he was, but still has limitations. He has several autoimmune diseases, including diabetes, osteoarthritis, chronic urticaria, and MS. He quit taking one of the MS medications because it was ineffective and had nasty side effects. We notice daily improvement in his ability to walk. We are both feeling blessed by this improvement.

The dog is at the groomer, and I'm going to the groomer, too. I have a haircut scheduled in half an hour and a city committee meeting this evening.

Trying to read everything but have made that a bit difficult on myself as I am trying to not be logged on so much lately -- I took an Internet break for part of the weekend and actually accomplished stuff around the house. Still logging every single day and refuse to stop. Today I feel like I could eat whatever is not pinned down, though...

Barbie, best wishes for your upcoming surgery!!!

Michele, sounds like a wise choice on the scaled back party idea.

Janet, glad the rash is improving -- fungus infections can be pretty bad!

Nancy Drew and Jo March were my favorites as a kid -- I read the older versions where Nancy rode around in a car with a rumble seat and always wanted to do that someday. Alas, I think they mainly exist in museums now.

Pip, your posts are always inspirational but you topped yourself...

    Hello all!

I deserve a o:) today as I managed to add recumbent bike and a bit of rowing to my CO score today, making 500 calories. I normally do 600, but yoga days always throw me out as I only log 238 for the 90 mins. :s I'm glad I pulled myself up to the spare room and did something else. I had the fan blowing and I watched an antiques programme on my tablet. :D

My reading has changed as I've got older. I read less fiction now, which includes my favourite police procedurals, but I mainly read non fiction. Currently I'm on popular science, anthropology, biology, etc. I love biography and history. I do have favourite serious fiction authors like Barbara Kingsolver. Occasionally I delve back into the classics.
Every morning we continue our education by listening to BBC Radio 4 as we exercise. Incredible, informative programmes. I'm always delighted to learn something new! :D<3

Talk of the spiralizer attachment for the KitchenAid sent me off to Amazon, but it was sooooooooooooo expensive! ! ! In the end I bought a cheap little gadget that had good reviews and can go in a drawer. If I end up not using it then I haven't wasted much money. I then got a book for my Kindle called Inspiralizing! Some great ideas in there. Good for gluten free people, vegetarians, and diabetics I think. She labels all the dishes so you can see at a glance. I might use one or two of the desserts for my diabetic 2 brother as there is only a tiny bit of honey in them.

DJ - The wonderful thing is, he isn't their grandfather, but loved as much as one. He adores them. <3
Thank you all for your input on my reaction to DS and DDIL 's busy lives. I know it's me feeling overwhelmed by it all. I'm a bit of a neat freak and chaos upsets me. Plus they seem to be always spending money, which freaks me out. We were brought up in different times and I've always been an "underspender" on "things". I don't like waste or unecessary clutter. I do spend a lot of money, as you know, on "doings", like holidays etc.

DJ - It's a 2 star called Midsummer House, in Cambridge, if you want to look it up. I haven't actually booked it yet!

Tonight we are having chilli, into which I've secreted hidden carrot and celery to bulk it out. We are having it with roasted butternut squash and cauliflower. Grand total of 350 cals. :D That includes a small blob of half fat creme fraiche.

Love you all, Heather UK xxxxxxx

Hey all! Just popped on for a minute to share a pic of today's kiddos. I have two smaller girls, that aren't pictured, as they were napping at the time of the photo. The two on the ends of the swing are my four year olds and they will both be in full time pre-school beginning next week. They never want help any more. They always tell me "I'll do it myself!" I giggle every time I look at them. BOTH of them have their shoes on the wrong feet! LOL!th7qedtd2q2s.jpg

KJ ~ Love the pic of the kids. I can't figure out the wrong shoe ones though.

Katla ~ Thanks for the laugh.

Today I tried to do 10 swings (kettle bell style) using my very large bottle of Cascade dishwasher det. Think if will probably work pretty well. It weighed 7 lbs. Now, I have to look on You Tube to see about form.

I love all of the book talk! I will have to check out the one that Cheri is reading, Mr. Penubra's 24-hour book store. I can't remember who asked, but the author of Mao's Great Famine is Frank Dikotter (with an umlaut over the o). Another thing, when Steig Larsson passed away after writing the first three "Girl..." books, another author Stephen Lagercrantz (I think that was his name) published a fourth "Girl..." book. He did a great job and he left some unfinished business for the Lisbeth character, so I HOPE he decides to go for a fifth book. Lisbeth Salander is my favorite female character of all time. I want her to have some closure. I need the closure. :p
Katla- Get out that final HP book and read the rest. Not scary. Enlightening. Heartbreaking. If you have seen the movies you probably have some idea of what happens; but as always, SO much is left out of movies. The details. The whys. One character in particular broke my heart to pieces and I have had a soft spot for this character ever since. And the actor who portrayed the character passed away recently, and even though I have seen and loved this actor in many other things, it is always his HP character that reduces me to tears. Ahhh...lump in my throat as I write that.
Heather- I love my little hand spiralizer. Makes it so much easier to add it to things and make a pretty side dish. Your chili and sides sound delish!

Connie- caNwa, do I have the name right?- I have heard of the apple cider vinegar for weight loss. I know it has to have the mothers in it. (If you are not sure about the mothers, most vinegars that contain mothers will say so on their label). Supposedly, it is good for all types of health issues, but I have never tried it for any. My brain tells me, that it may help "clear or cleanse" you out, (like lemon juice) but not sure how much it will really help you lose. If you do decide to try it, let us know.

Recently our TV programme TRUST ME I'M A DOCTOR looked at Apple Cider Vinegar. Wasn't much use. Can help a bit with sweet cravings.
I am doing my hand squeezing exercises they recommended though, Mon, We'd, Fri. (For blood pressure )
Also carrying on practising my balance (highly recommended ) We had a balance test at yoga today. Mine is pretty good for my age, nearly 67. :D

PS Chilli was fabulous. Got 3 more pots all labelled up, ready to go in the freezer. I write the calorie count on them. 556 calories per pot.

I'm new to this thread. I haven't really set any goals for myself up until now. My only goal was to get down to 270lbs. As of today I'm 272.8 so I'm getting close and that is exciting. I use a Garmin to track my steps so I use my step goal each day as a goal too, but I'm thinking that maybe, after reading some of these post, that I would like to make some goals for myself. Thanks for the good ideas! :) Holly in Nashville, TN
PS that is a total of 34.2 pounds!!!

KJ I saw a cute thing on Facebook that suggested cutting smiley face stickers in half and putting them in the kids shoes so the face is complete when the left shoe is on the left and the right shoe is on the right. Not sure if it would work in sneakers, though...

Such a cute bunch of kids!
