Thanks NYKAREN - you will have to share that slow cooker recipe if it turns out well. I also did a bunch of cooking today - mainly cooking up portions of proteins for easy meal prep in the week.

Hello all: Drippy soggy day here so did not get a whole lot done. DD and I pulled blackberry vines out of the front pasture during a lull in the rain. then we went shopping at Ben Franklin. I needed some new crochet hooks in sizes I did not have and DD needed a birthday present for my DGD, her niece. She bought some modeling clay and beginner tools. We will be eating dinner on Tuesday at Olive Garden. That is what DGD picked for her birthday dinner. I bought her a small notebook and a gift certificate to University Bookstore.

Went to a new water exercise class yesterday. It is an hour long instead of 45 minutes and harder. I got a leg cramp doing flutter kick intervals with a kick board but it was definitely a good workout. I will probably attend this one again and maybe do it on a regular basis instead of the arthritis class.

Margaret - Chihuly pictures are great. His sculptures are truly amazing.

Maryann - I had to laugh at your poodle going to visit the other dogs instead of returning to you. My standard poodle did the same thing at her obedience test. She also cannot stand still during the stand for examination. She just gets so excited that someone is going to pet her. Crazy dog. But she is finally getting the idea that she should bark to let us know strangers are driving in the driveway.

Healing angels to all who need them and congratulations to those with victories, Sue in WA

Off today to Brighton/Hove for DGD's 3rd bd party. <3 My ex will be there with wife and two teenagers. ;):*:) Also lots of in laws. The other grandparents will be staying over to babysit for two days as the nanny takes her holiday. (Pre booked before she recently started ) We couldn't because of cricket and yoga on Tuesday. :'(
We are going on to a nice b&b hotel near the sea and will walk round the corner for a "posh" meal. :) Then tomorrow I want to show DH the delights of Brighton. :D The Royal Pavilion is amazing. Margaret, you would love it!

Got to trim and slice the top tier before I freeze it and wrap DGD's presents. (A flowery lined anorak and some toy pans) I remembered just in time that it is DDIL's mother's birthday as well so I have written a card and cellophane wrapped a pot of our homemade apricot jam. :D Nice purple ribbon. It's all about the presentation.
Also must record anything on TV I don't want to miss. :o

Breakfast is coming upstairs and we must get our exercises done. o:)

Felt very happy last night when a friend I find very difficult emailed me from ONE of her houses (in France) and said she had had a mini book club with some friends to read my book WINDOWS I published last year. They sat out on the terrace, drinking wine, and decided that it really should have been published years ago, but was probably "ahead of its time" I know quite a few of you have read and reviewed it, thank you so much. I wrote it in 1983 or 4.
My difficult friend is now my new best friend. >:)

Heather in the UK - isn't it funny how someone who likes your book unexpectedly is such a lift? Had someone I know only a bit stop me in Walmart a couple days back, with my DH, who she also knows. She just had to tell me how much she enjoyed my books, especially This Little Pig. Come to find out she had gone back to the Texas Highway Patrol, which was her old career (I never knew that about her) and she's in the process of getting her license to go back to being a trooper. Since my main character is a female sheriff in East Texas, it really spoke to her, to the point she sent her copy of the book to her mother, told her she had to read it. Thrilling at a lot of levels.

Spent yesterday pretty quietly, except going to the local live music venue that was holding a second birthday celebration for their company, which is also one of the local coffee houses. Had fun, but too much noise and too many people and too stinking hot. Got up to 97 degrees, and after a lovely cool morning yesterday, wasn't ready for it. Came back home, napped on the reclining couch, watched the Minions movie, which was fun--we don't watch many movies, and almost none all the way through. Back to the coffee house for a few more pictures of the bash for the paper, and then back home to snooze in the recliner a bit more. So mostly a restful day.

Laundry at the laundromat this morning (*sigh* not my favorite chore) and then just getting ready for the week, I think. Finally got our used car delivered at 7 p.m. Friday night, and my husband will be absorbed getting the few owies fixed on it. It's a sweet little 2008 Mazda 6, and he's very happy with it. I'll keep my pickup, thank-you-very-much. :)

    Happy Sunday, ladies,

Good morning ladies! Posting on far less than eight hours of sleep this morning, due to the ride/sharing our family has been doing. Late night picking up DYS from work, then he had a 6am meeting this morning, so not much sleep for me. I will have to re-read carefully for typos before I post!
Lisa and Heather- as a book lover, my hat is off to you both for achieving such a great thing as writing and being published! I think any recognition of our hard work (whatever that work may be) feels so wonderful.
Heather- Love to hear about the birthday fun; and in my opinion a gift of home made jams is AWESOME!! Perhaps I feel that way, because I often gift the "Miss Kelly Jelly" that I make. But it IS good! Way better than the stuff you get in the store!
Lisa- I, too, have started out my Sunday communing with my laundry. *sigh...not enough hours in the weekend to get everything done.
Joyce-Your story about your avocado appliances had me giggling. When we moved into the house we are in now, it had it's original appliances, that lovely seventies goldenrod color. It took a few years for them to peter out. But now I have all white appliances. Except my tub and toilet in the main bathroom are still that awful goldenrod! Ugh! I did the only thing I could think of and afford; I painted my walls a deep brown and have accessorized to turn it into a "sunflower" bathroom.
ON embracing your age- I have never been one of those ladies who hates getting old. There are things about aging that are not so cool; but for the most part, I just love me now. I love where my head is. Y'know? My older sister is one of those celebrating the 25th anniversary of her 29th birthday ???!!! We talked about this when she was visiting this past summer. Why does she fear/hate aging and I wallow in it (happily, like a pig in mud)? I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that she was the "blond bombshell" in our family. Her nickname was actually, The Blond Bombshell. (I had many less impressive ones, like "cabbage" "bony butt" and "froggy"). Her beauty and vivaciousness was legendary in our family and circle of friends. Maybe because those things fade as time goes on, it is hard for her to accept who she is inside and let that shine? Whereas, I was always just another kid at the reunion, at school etc. I was an ordinary looking person, with an ordinary personality and I had to grow into something more. Each adventure and new thing that happened to me has made me "more". It reminds me of the Lewis Carroll quote:
    Lewis Carroll
“‎You're not the same as you were before," he said. You were much more... muchier... you've lost your muchness.”

― Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass

Here's to finding and holding onto our "muchness"! <3

Karen in VA- Happy to hear your partner is feeling better! It is a good thing when pain subsides or perhaps isn't as bad as what others have led you to believe! Cute pups! And pink appliances? How cute is that?! Although, I have a niece who just purchased some purple appliances. I think those colors are going to get old REALLY fast. I can't even picture purple in my kitchen!

:) I turned 70 this year and except for this pesky thing with my legs (the thing I'm having surgery for), I feel the best I've ever felt.....there are four women who dance in the front row of my line dance class who are in their 80's and their energy level and zest for life tell me that there are a lot of years of good living still to come.

:)Karen in VA, I'm glad your partner is feeling better and how great to have those darling dogs to cheer her on....my doctor told me that recovery is very personal and one person's experience will not be the same as another's.

    B) If I lived alone and had the money to do it, I'd probably have appliances in startling colors....instead I have the appliances that were in the house when we bought and I am grateful every day that they work.

Karen So glad your partner is on the mend Love the cute pups, had to Google Coton as not heard of them before.

Barbie Couldn't agree more about the age thing, I'm 71 and in better shape physically and mentally than when I was younger. I do have a great DH who encourages me to do things for ME

Anyway going out for our regular Sunday drink in town (which I've already logged) Will catch up with posts when I get back

Karen VA ~ Love the pics of the pups. They look adorable.

I read Lisa's book This Little Pig and really enjoyed it. Lisa, have you written a sequel yet?

Our old rental house was built in 1975 and all the kitchen appliances were gold. The carpet in the living room was a shade of dark orange. I replaced the appliances during the last 15 yrs with stainless steel and the carpet has been replaced several times. Our bathtubs were the plastic type ones and they were refinished but now really need to be replaced.

As for age, I am 68 and have to try to remember how old I am at times. It feels strange to think of myself as being this old because I don't feel it. LOL

I am VERY discouraged this morning. I woke up this morning with several breakouts returning on my arms and legs. Inside of my right arm is covered fron my wrist to above the bend in my elbow. A fairly large place on my right hip, and several small places on both legs. I think I may need another round of steroids, ugh.

On the topic of brightly colored kitchen appliances...I am a grumpy pants before my first coffee. I quietly glide into the kitchen in the moring carefully stepping over hungry kitties with my eyes mostly shut. If my appliances were as brightly colored as the ones in the pictures I probably would find myself shocked awake every morning. Yes, I have plain old stainless steel. m1826.gif

The quilter in me thinks the colors are awesome, but will look best in someone else's kitchen.

Karen - So glad to hear your partner's pain is declining. Recovery is very individual and with your help it sounds like the word 'speedy' will be the word before recovery when you both talk about it in the future. Healing thoughts going out your way!!

Janet ~ If you are again experiencing a new outbreak, it must be that you are coming in contact with something in your environment. Did you have this before you started the RV journey (I can't remember)? Until you find the culprit, you may not be able to get rid of it.

Carol in GA where it is misting (Finally). Bad thing is that my DnL has a week off from teaching (they are on the year round system) and they were planning on taking the grands camping for the first time. We have had no rain in 2 mos so this is a dilemma.

Carol I would be interested to hear how the year round school year is working. Don't see how it could work in NY due to lack of air conditioning in most buildings, July and August would be unbearable. but I think it is an interesting scheduling model and wonder if the kids have less "summer slide" and actually maintain more skills and knowledge with a year round approach.

I did make a dent in my to do list starting with the project I least wanted to do--this approach is working for me--tackle the least likable thing on the to do list and other projects on list feel like a reward!!!

I actually rewarded myself with a trip to the gym--that is a new normal for me!!

Heather: I understand difficult friendships changing. I worked with a group of women and one in particular was difficult for me. Now our friendship is well seasoned, and she is someone whose company I enjoy. We have both changed over the years and are more confident in who we are.

Karen in VA: My cousin, also a Karen, has loved Yorkies for many years. She was a breeder for a time. I'm not sure how many she has now. DH would love to have a stove like the purple one because of all the burners and double oven. I don't think he would hate purple, but it wouldn't be his first choice. I like white, personally. Yup, plain vanilla. :ohwell:

KJ: Your comments about your bombshell sister seem quite insightful. My only "sisters" are a group of women I worked with for many years, including the one I mentioned to Heather. I love them all now.

Janetr: I'm so sorry you have broken out. Could you be allergic to something in the RV? Perhaps you need medical attention. I hope you're able to get some relief. DH has urticaria that comes and goes. It is not currently bothering him. When he has a flare up he has a cream to put on it that helps with the discomfort. I think the cream contains steriods. It is called Triamcinolone Acetonide 0.1%. It says RX only on it. :flowerforyou:

When I got home from riding yesterday DH was all set to sell our place here and move to Central Oregon, where he proposed to move someplace horse friendly and buy me a horse. Yikes! He needs access to great medical care and it is available here, but possibly not there. I like riding once or twice a week, but I'm not sure I am ready to take on an animal that needs daily care and lives 30 or more years. My teacher tells me to buy a 17 year old horse in good health. I am still thinking the first step would be a partial lease & I plan to call someone today to discuss the matter. Advice from horse people is welcome and would be appreciated. This issue seems to come up periodically for me & I've probably asked for similar advice a number of times. I hope to benefit for other's wisdom and experience but not to annoy people to death while I dither. :embarassed:

Carol yes I started breaking out two days before I left home. It's not an allergy, its a fungus. I have never stopped using the ointment since seeing the doctor, she warned me to continue using it for a week after being able to see any outbreaks, so I have. I'm going to try calling that clinic. Maybe a second round of steroids would help.

    Thanks ladies :)

NYKaren ~ In my DnL's county teachers go back to school the last week in July. Students start on Aug. 1st. On the 3rd wk in Sept. they get a week off, a wk off at Thanksgiving, two weeks off in Dec., a wk off in Feb. and a wk off in April. School is usually out around June 1st. All depends on if there are days off due to inclement weather.

I think that this is a very similar schedule for most of GA. The last few years I taught we were on that schedule and I liked it a lot.
