Sober since January 2012, except for a very occasional glass of wine, and that's only been recently.

Stopped smoking 12/10/2012. Haven't looked back.

Never did any of the other stuff, personally.

No drinking can be difficult because I feel like I have no friends/fun now but it is SO worth it.
Add me! I don't talk A TON about my sobriety but it does come up on occasion and I am willing and happy to support anyone in any way I can in their own sobriety or fitness!

I just celebrated my 1 year the other day... 7/12/12.

I also want to say congrats to everyone who has taken that step to getting, and staying sober.

Congrats. That 1st year is so weird. Then ya hit it and its like "ow that was easier than I thought"
Thank you. It didn't really even hit me at first, because I never went to AA or NA or had a fancy token to remind me of my sobriety.

kinda the same here, I do go to AA when I feel agitated or if I cant seem to find my inner peace, only because I know Im in a room with ppl who I have at least one common bond with. Im not a very good student, ha so I don't get all cray with the book and sponsorship. I go for the support.
I did get my 1yr coin tho and gave my cake to my lil one. :D
I could never do meetings because I have a lot of social anxiety. I'd love to go and try, but I don't really connect well with others in person, so I just prefer to do things on my own.

    BOOM!

I completely quit drinking (the outrageous bingeing, sloppy, embarrassing, make-big-mistakes, vomit violently and and pass out kind of drinking) four years ago for religious reasons, and never looked back. Never did any other drugs, I never had any inclination to try it.

Edited to clarify: I wasn't/am not an alcoholic. Not that there's anything wrong with being one.

I've just stopped drinking temporarily while I've been working on losing weight (It's been about 3 months since I had a drink), but even though I didn't drink that much before, I'm strongly considering making it permanent. It's funny now how I really thought going out with friends or to weddings or things like that wouldn't be any fun totally sober, but I actually feel better. I've realized the alcohol probably made me tired as much as anything and I feel so much better in the morning, I'm not sure what I was thinking before.

I don't drink alcohol or do any drugs. I got drunk when I was 17 and decided I never wanted to lose my senses like that again. And I never have. (I'm now 30)
I want to say WELL DONE to all of you who have had to fight to stay sober- you are all fighters and strong people, and I admire your courage :)

There is also a lot of alcohol/drug addiction in my family of origin.

My husband has never had any drugs or alcohol.

I was never a heavy drinker and dislike drugs. But, I did drink in high school and a few times in college. It was never a good experience for me. So, I quit from the age of 23 until I was 32.

I would drink only occasionally with friends usually (after age 32). But, I have cut down to just once a month. But, may not drink at all because I don't see it as a benefit to my life, it's not good for health, and it costs money, and my husband doesn't drink. But, since I am not an addict I don't think it is necessary to decide one way or the other to fully abstain.

I have found this website helpful for tracking how often I drink, how many units, how much it costs. Plus some helpful articles for parents. : https://www.drinkaware.co.uk/

Stupid question and please forgive me, but I feel like life would be so boring without alcohol. Whenever I have taken a break from drinking, I get real bored.

It was a week yesterday! Went camping over the weekend instead of getting lushface drunk and ending up in the casino. Feels much more better!

I was sort of worried about that too. It turns out fun can still be had - and I get to remember it the next day!

But if you're enjoying the boozing and it isn't causing any problems then, by all means, keep on drinking! Somebody's gotta do it. :)

In my experience there is a lot more I can do without drinking. Also the sex is better because alcohol makes me feel numb and my senses are dulled. Drinking usually causes me to feel emotional (and causes me to flashback to my past traumas), and my stomach hurts. I don't find that fun. Not everyone has a pleasant reaction to things like alcohol and drugs. I had bad reactions to the drugs at the dentist, even. Being sober just feels better and I can be more productive. If people enjoy it, I see no problem with that. But, why care if others don't enjoy it the same way you do. Once in a while is ok for me. Too frequently and I don't like the way I feel or how it can get in the way of life.

Alcohol and drug free since my birth in 1970.

Sadly not free of being a *kitten*. :(

I hear they have a 12 Step Program for that too, lol!
