    Speaking of Chicago, is anybody else miffed or frustrated about the surprise really early application/registration for next year? I don't think I'm entering into the lottery because of it. I haven't even paid off my speeding ticket I got when I went out for this year's race yet, haha.

    @OSUbuckeye906 Miffed for sure! It's what... 5 months earlier than usual? I had budgeted that race fee for the spring, not November! The registration date barely includes the Philly Marathon -- not even 2 months after Chicago's date! -- where I'm hoping to time qualify for a guaranteed spot. I'm not sure what the rush is, and I wonder if they're going to see a big drop in numbers by switching the dates :/

    @Orphia Congrats on 1st female!! That's awesome. Plus that outfit is perfect for running, it's so cute but also warm and ALSO festive!!

    @Orphia congrats on the Parkrun and fantastic costume........great for a run too as opposed to some costumes.

    Everyone else.............nice work all the way around!

    Still struggling here a bit with what my doc called runner's knee. The problem is it feels fine when I wake up in the morning so I really want to run but the day I tried that, and also the day I walked at a fast pace uphill, both killed me later.

    Yesterday I tried the elliptical for 10 minutes as an experiment and then did my usual strength training workout. It didn't hurt much after the elliptical so I'll try a bit more time tomorrow. Knee feel great again this morning but I'm forcing myself to rest it until next week. Hopefully I'll still be able to run the Turkey Trot, but may have to settle for the 5K instead of the 10 I've been training for. That's okay, I'll work up to it again.

    I'm bummed I missed my mileage goal this month by about 3.5 miles...........uggghhhh

    10/01 – Rest Day
    10/02 – 3.6 mile horse trail run with dog – AVG HR 143, High 159 on hills
    10/03 – Rest Day
    10/04 – 2.1 mile horse trail run with dog – testing out the new Garmin
    10/05 – 3.31 miles horse trail run with dog – looks like Garmin is about 7-8 bbm higher than my Polar
    10/06 – 95 min strength training
    10/07 – 3.6 miles horse trail run with the dog – AVG HR 146
    10/08 – Rest Day
    10/09 – 4.52 miles at the park – longest run yet – AVG HR 147
    10/10 – Another Rest Day……ugggghhhh
    10/11 – 3.1 miles horse trail run – Fastest 5K yet – AVG HR 147
    10/12 – 3.1 miles horse trail run plus a 3 mile walk this morning
    10/13 – 4 mile walk along the river trail
    10/14 – 95 min strength training
    10/15 – Spent the day at the Aquarium of the Pacific………..lots of walking
    10/16 – 4.6 mile horse trail run – AVG HR 143 but I did run one very steep hill and it got up to 160
    10/17 – 100 min strength training
    10/18 – 3.1 mile horse trail run – One big hill – AVG HR 136 a nice recovery zone for me I guess
    10/19 – Rest Day
    10/20 – Another Rest Day……….uggghhhh
    10/21 – 3.1 mile park run after an 80 minute strength training session, trying to make up for the extra rest day
    10/22 – Worst week ever for rest days and changes in plans………..uggghh
    10/23 – 5 mile trail run – Even though I didn’t add up the miles this week I still managed my longest run and fastest 5K within that 5 miles. I’m ecstatic and surprised.
    10/24 – 90 min strength training
    10/25 – 2.5 mile recovery road run – AVG HR 120
    10/26 – Rest day – nursing sore knee
    10/27 – 3.1 mile horse trail walk including the big hill at the park. Not counted in my ticker.
    10/28 – 10 min elliptical and 90 min strength training
    10/29 – Rest day but walking the dog slowly about 2 miles

    11/19 - San Dimas Turkey Trot 10K-looks like I'll be running the 5, if I'm lucky

    Total: 128.97/70 I'm starting to think I set my mileage goal too low...

    Today's notes: RAINY and 45 degrees with a 7mph wind makes for one cold runner when I stop. Despite the rain, I had a good run today. I managed another z2 average, despite maintaining a 10:19 average pace. For me this is a pretty big thing, it shows that I'm improving my cardio. I'm also happy because my average pace was just 1 second off my GMP for June and I'm over 7 months out....Now to just stretch the distance I can manage that pace....

    Distance: 8.01
    Time: 1:22:40
    Avg. Pace: 10:19
    Avg HR: 153
    Avg HR zone: 2.8

    Now to get some rest before the family wakes up and my in-laws arrive for a 3 night stay.

    Exactly, I hadn't budgeted for a big race fee like that right before the holidays. I think it's their way of earning revenue from two races in one calendar year. There may be a big drop in applicants to the lottery, but I'm sure they'll still have more than enough to fill all the spots. After all, next year is the 40th anniversary. I've run it 3 years in a row and was hoping for 2 more to earn legacy status but I'm going to chalk this up as an opportunity to run some other fall marathons next year. I hope the Philadelphia Marathon works out for you to qualify!

    Did your doctor give you any exercises to do or did he just advise you to rest? I usually have a bit of runner's knee in my right knee but doing the exercises consistently that my PT gave me helps to keep it tolerable.

    Aargh! This sickness has moved into my chest. Only 8 miles left to make my goal of 60. I really don't know how I did it but I'm thrilled to finally be running consistently again even though my furthest distance for the month is 5 miles. Onward and upward! ** crossing fingers **

    @orphia great job! Congrats :)

    @luluinca so sorry but just know that most (all?) Of us miss our goal at some point. Hang in there!

    Family emergency out of state, not able to find a time or place to run for a week...frustrating. Got a little time yesterday (2) 1/4 mi intervals and (1) 1/2 mi interval just so I could get something, then I went to bed.

    Will try to get 8 more miles in in the next 3 days, but may fall short.

    Total/October: 61.6 miles

    Managed to tough it out for 3 miles with my undie elastic pinching me in a most uncomfortable way. Mike came out with me and Fergus again so that was fun. He likes to chat a bit here and there while we run so it makes me focus on my breathing a bit more. Shooting for 5+ miles tomorrow with Fergus. We'll see how that goes.

    I am thinking about doing a 5k or 10k coming up sometime soon here. The ones that I see that I am able to probably do are all on Thanksgiving though and I have to make sure I can get back home in time to get dinner started. I am also a little concerned about my speed. I am pretty slow. My best time has been about a 12:15 mile which I have sustained for 2 miles and I think I can probably hold on to for 3, but I would have to slow it down to last 6 miles. (Today's 3 miles was at about 13 minutes per mile and it was an easy pace for me.) So, I will be at the back of the pack...perhaps even dead last, for sure. Still, I kind of want to do it though. On the fence for now. :)

    @OSUbuckeye906, not yet on the exercises. I'm hoping to get a PT appt next week but may look some up online in the meantime. It's really not that bad unless I run.....LOL

    @greenolivetree yeah I'm not too worried about missing my goal, just that I was so close....lol. I'll try again next month of course.

    Hope all of you racing this weekend get some great times in!

    Ah, this talk of handwarmers and freezing butts! We're hitting 80 here again! Can't wait for the next cool front late next week.

    I wrenched my back this morning. Still hoping to run tonight after it cools down.

    I track my shoes in Garmin. My Ghosts are automatically added and if I run in another pair it's simple to switch it. I just make sure I don't put my shoes away in the closet without logging them in the app. Otherwise I'd forget.

    @skippygirlsmom Sorry your run felt awful :neutral:

    @9voice9 Congrats on the PRs!

    I'm getting close. I hope I can make goal this month. I went over last month, so am wishing I had just carried them over.

    @Ohhim Thanks for the shoe input. I think mine are getting about the same. And good luck!
    @Orphia You look incredible. Congrats on 1st place!
    @kristinegift Bwahaha I had Cold Butt too today, but no group to whine too. I better speed up so I can join one.
    @katharmonic I'm in - I'll pre-order!
    @9voice9 Congratulations!
    @juliet3455 Thanks for the link. I bought this one from MEC, might be a Petzl even, but it seems lame. I went with one of the cheapest ones. Should have done more research. Sure, ask me anything about the Garmin. This is my third one in about 15 years. I've got nothing bad to say about any of them. I wear this one all day, and I love it! The only thing I don't like is that I was able to change alerts during a workout on the old ones, and this one, I have to stop the workout if I change my mind and the alerts are a little more difficult to change on the go. It means I have to plan my workouts in advance and have a backup workout I can switch to if I'm not up to the one I planned or run without any alerts.

    Think I need a rest day... 5k next Saturday. I plan on walking all of it. Figure if I taper and do some cross training this week I'll be no worse for the "race".

    DH decided he wasn't ready for the HM, so he switched to the 5k. I'm so competitive and wonder how close I can get to that sub 25 mark and kick his *kitten*. LOL! I'd probably trip myself and wind up with another busted knee.
