Welcome running pilgrims. It's November, and this month most of us will be turning our clocks back. Take a turn in your fitness journey and join us for this month's running challenge. You set your own pace and distance for the month. We will all be doing it together. This is your virtual running group to keep you accountable and enjoy a virtual coffee with your fellow runners after you run. Make new friends and learn a few things.
Hi everyone. This is a continuation from the October 2016 Running Challenge which can be found at:
http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10463158/october-2016-running-challenge
Anyone can join in. New & Old. And if you found this thread late, you can join in at any time.
We have members that are total beginners all the way to Boston Qualifiers and beyond. We are a friendly and encouraging bunch.
Here are the details from last month that applies here again.
Anybody want to join me for a running challenge? Set a goal here and mark it every day here. OPTIONAL: You can post your progress by creating a ticker at http://www.tickerfactory.com (If creating one seems difficult, then don't let that stop you. Just type in your daily miles here.)
You can run, walk, or do treadmill. Just be consistent. I am setting a goal for 200 miles (I will be tapering for a couple of key races). Don't let my high (or low) goal intimidate you. Some can do 25, 50; whatever you like. We can help motivate each other. What do you say? If you are new to running, set a low goal. (You can also log your miles in km's if you choose.) Also, if you rather log your process by time rather than distance, you are free to do that as well.
You can set your goal now but wait until Tuesday November 1 to start logging your runs.
Also, don't forget to join our group which can be found at:
http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/21182-monthly-running-challange
There you will find lots of good info, and it's a place where everyone can talk to each other for further motivation. It's also a place to find help when there is a problem with this thread.
After you run, come into this thread and post what you did. (don't forget to hit the star in the upper right corner to bookmark this thread) Keep a running tally of what you did this month, and interact with the others. Many folks come in here and chat it up even on their rest days or while recouping from injury. This is a very social group and we talk about many things to include running. Very friendly bunch here so don't be afraid to say hi (even if this is your first time). Talk about a recent race or one coming up. Ask questions, provide answers, or just learn. Participation is what makes this group successful.
Not quite sure how to log your runs, follow what many other people are doing. Even look at last month's thread that I posted above.
*******OPTIONAL TICKER*************
Info on tickers since I know there will be questions. Sign up for an account http://www.tickerfactory.com and create your ticker.
Then you need to update it after you do a run and post it here. Here is what you will need to do.
After setting up your ticker, you will need to make note of the weblink they give you so you can return. An example would be:
http://www.tickerfactory.com/exercise/w6K1EiX/ <<<< the last part will be a part of the image link (explained below) that will be supplied to you after you initially create your link.
When you return to TickerFactory with the weblink, go to your settings page. Make sure you type your pin in that you set when you created your ticker account.
Then where it says "Your current cumulative value, there is an add button. Just add what you just did and the cumulative value automatically changes. Then hit next.
Now after you added your new miles (or km's) to your ticker you need to post it here.
After you hit next, it will give you a bunch of codes suggesting on how to display your ticker.
Use the one at the bottom where it says Direct Image URL:
It will look something like:
http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png
To display that correctly in your post, make sure you place the img tags around that link. So it will look, (removing the spaces in the img tags):
[ img ] http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png [ /img ]
^^^^^^^ Don't forget to remove the spaces between the brackets. ^^^^^^^^^^
Some key things to pay attention to when posting your ticker.
1: Use the link that ends in .png
2. Remember the [ img] and [ /img] tags go in between the link
3. remove the spaces in the img tags before posting
4. YES, there is a / in the second /img tag
Good luck! And happy running (or walking or treadmilling, ect). If you have any trouble or have questions, please feel free to PM me.

I was going to be safe, but I'm gonna go for ambitious. Going for 150 miles6

Month 4 here for me now, and not sure I'll be able to top October where everything seemed to go right and I smashed all my PRs and my challenge distance.
Main aim for me now is to start doing some mid-long races to get that experience - may not do any this month but definitely sign up for some, including at least one Half Marathon. I'll aim at 160km for this month to try to beat last month (159.2) in one less day!

I'm in!! I exceeded my goal for October...so I am going to add on to my goal this month.
I will aim for 95km. That is 20km over my October goal and 4km over my actual for October!0 -
I'm in! Shooting for 75 miles in November - 25 more than my October goal and 6 more than my October actual.1
-
My October goal was to run a marathon - 26.2 miles but I didn't get there as I found out I had damage to a tendon connecting my hip to my knee and I've been told to take 'er easy.
So for November I'm in for at least 26.2 miles, ideally I'd like to hit 30.

Looks like folks have some awesome goals for November! You guys are awesome!0

I'm in for 100 miles.7

Since I am going to be transitioning to some more cross-training / strength work, I am going to say 88.3

First challenge so I'm going to start with 40 miles....eeek!7

Hi everyone! I'm finally back to running (kind of) after a few months off to heal up from a tibial stress fracture. I'm currently on week 2 of a four week return to running program, so this week and next week are walk/run intervals and then finally back to continuous running after that! Once I finish up the return to running program, the next step is a 6-8 week program of running every other day while very very slowly increasing the distance of the runs, and then after that I can add one set of back to back running days each week. It's going to be a very long recovery but I'm just happy to be running again, regardless of the distance or speed!
My tentative goal for the month is 35 miles, including the walking portions of my walk/run intervals. So happy to be back!!! I have missed the inspiration and camaraderie of this group!8 -

you got this!
@mnlittlefinn thanks I need to get myself together. You set yourself an aggressive goal, can't wait to see you smash it!1 -
I'm in again this month I was going to go with 30 miles but after reading through the thread I'm going to challenge myself to 40!!!!
If I manage this I'll be very impressed as this month contains my birthday and a trip to Wembley for Scotland v England.5 -
I'll try this again, came up short in October because a family emergency had me on the road for a week...I will try for 30 Miles for November. Ticker to follow shortly.3
-
Thanks @Stoshew71!
@MNLittleFinn - wow! 150!
@skippygirlsmom - you deserve some time to get yourself together. It's awful losing a parent. You will be racking up the miles again! Blowing me away!
I'm in for 80 this month! I hoping for a much cooler November/December than we had last year in Florida. I may do the Holiday Streak again and it was not fun when it was in the 80s last December.
Upcoming races
11/30/16 - I/ITSEC 5K
2/5/17 - Daytona Beach HM
2/26/17 - Disney Princess HM Orlando

I'm in for 100 miles.

Thanks, @Stoshew71!
Good luck, all, with your November running!
October was about base-building, but November is the beginning of a progressive training program leading to a half marathon in January. I'm challenging myself to run 60 miles in November (all that's on my schedule), plus at least 5 of the 9 scheduled strength workouts (baby steps!).
Training for:
1/15/17: Key West Half Marathon

I'm going to work toward 60 miles again in November and adding in one non running workout a week. Elliptical, yoga, biking, whatever.
@Calvin2008Brian; @Marissaxzxzxz - looks like we're similar in goals
We've got this!
Good luck everyone on your personal goals!4 -
Thanks @ddmom0811 I think once all the lawyer stuff is settled that will help0
-
So my year has gone like this:
Jan 42 comeback miles post-2 month injury recovery no running period
Feb 48 miles
March 72 miles
April 35 miles - due to injury
May 60 miles
June 71 miles
July 90 miles
Aug 25 miles - injured again
Sept 32 miles - still injured
Oct 60 miles
So.....I think sticking with 60 miles is my best bet. Maybe all the personal stuff going on right now will keep me from pushing it too hard and running more. This whole getting injured every 3 months thing is getting annoying. I just want to run4 -
two goals.
run 2x at least a week. it's such a hard habit to get into again for some reason
hit 30mi7 -
I'm going for 30 miles in November.
6 -
First challenge, I'll start with 40 miles.6
-
This is my 1st monthly challenge but I have a 5K & a 5 mile Turkey Trot in Nov. I'm going for 50 miles6
-
I finished my graduate degree, which is what was holding me back from more exercise. I don't want to start too fast and do too much, but will go with 30 miles for Nov.5
-
Whoa. I have fallen so far off the running wagon.
Trying to get back into it this month, so I can slog my way through the annual tradition of our Thanksgiving morning 5k. The past few years, I've gotten a bit slower. Lately it's been tough eeking out a mile. I know I can do it, between weekends and the gym, but I have to COMMIT.
This will be my first month joining in here, and by the end, I may very well be running through snow!

Hi, all, started this once before but couldn't stick with it but really need some motivation to get going. I have really fallen off the running wagon. My goal is going to be to run every day. Some longer, some shorter, but at least 1 mile every day to try and get a streak (and a good habit) going again.
So, run at least a mile every day for Nov.4
