Joyce – Could be … but, for our small town, we had about 500+ early voters. I’ll just be glad when it is all over with; one way or the other. I’m just tired of politics and politicians which as in most cases … SNAFU!
Thankfully, living out in the country we don’t have Trick or Treaters, so I don’t have to buy any candy to be tempted with.
Glo – Growing up, we were ‘expected’ to do our own homework; and, Mother [a teacher herself] would help; but, only if we asked for it. She would check it and tell us which ones we had gotten incorrect. It was up to us if we corrected it or not. When my DOS decided to get our attention when in 7th grade when he wanted to attend public school, with the neighborhood boys; at his parochial school by making failing grades during the 2nd semester/quarter; and, I pitched a real ‘*kitten*’ about it. I thought that the school would have called and asked if something was different at home, since he went from making A’s and B’s to making D’s and F’s; but, when I went to the school the first thing I got asked was ‘did I do homework with him’. NO, because it is his place to do his homework himself’, I took him out of parochial school and enrolled him in public school and his grades shot back up to A’s and B’s. I also told the ‘nun’ principal that she had better NEVER call my DYS out of his class (over the loud speaker) without calling me first. That way I could go down and get him and bring him to the office myself. We had left him there because we did not want to move him in the first part of 5th grade. He liked his teachers and was making good grades. I agree that you have to give them enough rope to hang themselves is need be; if they are not ‘allowed’ to fall on their face during their lifetime, they don’t know what it takes to succeed. DOGD got DMGD’s attention when she was going into the 8th grade; that she’d never get into college if she slouched out about doing homework. In HS, they WOULD hold her back. Starting in 8th grade she was on the Honors Society and still is as a sophomore. My DH had told her the best way to get even with the snobby girls was to show them she was just as smart, if not smarter, as they are. Boy, what a huge difference that made. A change in boyfriends also made a huge difference.
NYKAREN – I put all my credit cards into a container with water and froze them in my freezer; I did not ‘close’ the accounts; because to do so affects my credit score; but, all the balances were transferred over to a card, which had no interest for about a year to 15 months; and, the only started getting interest charged on the balance at the time; at a much lower rate than most all the others. Certainly after I added up together what I was paying high interest on each one. The total payout I make monthly is less that what I was paying on each. I have not charged anything to the card since and I see the balance coming down very quickly. I do have another charge card, for clothes only. But, I never buy anything that is not ‘on sale’. Sometimes I buy something that I don’t have something to wear with it, specifically at the time; but, something I can interchange with other things in my closet. Then at the end of the season, I usually find something that it really goes with. I have the basic black, gray, brown, and off white pants and a lot of tops that go with all of them. I buy a lot of ¾ quarter sleeves that I can wear all seasons (and also covers a really bad scar on my left arm).

Hump Day? How about prevent lump day? Late start to my daycare today as I get the twins hugged and photographed. They work hard, they deserve it. The spend their days confined, yet supported by the Comte De Brassiere, they become objects of amusement by curious toddlers and a pillow for the babies; by night they become a playground for the Lucky One. Gotta take care of the girls. Taking care of business Wednesday. Remember friends to get your girls checked!6

Good morning all:
Katla: Safe travels
Rori: I'd like to know what Tabatas is too
Sherry: Congrats on 48 days smoke free! What an accomplishment!
Mary: Hope your shoulder starts to feel better soon.
Heather: Love the vibe of the new house. I have everything crossed for you.
Sharon: Too bad it was raining for Halloween. Your November goals should help to get you back on the path you want. Good news about your younger brother.
KJ: Prevent lump day .. I love the concept.
Lillian: Good morning...hmm didn't you retire recently (tongue in cheek)? I hope you find some time in your busy week for you.
I'm waiting for an appointment with a specialist. I keep getting different information about what is causing my eye issues. So now I'm on a new strategy which involves putting a salt soln into my eyes twice a day to try and get the layers of skin covering the cornea to adhere to each other and my cornea. And then I have to add hydrating eye drops...one seems to defeat the purpose of the other.
Carey - Northern Alberta

Carey, that's so exciting to hear of your progress in October. Congrats!!!
Katla you have a long travel day today, but you will get to sleep in your own bed. So glad you were able to be there for the new grandbaby' s birth, but I'm sure your husband and doggy will be thrilled to have you home. Love the idea of setting the scale back.
Heather, love the Halloween pics of the grandkids. I miss all of that. Even tho you and I are the same age my daughters started young. My six grandkids range in age from 9 to 23. The new house looks perfect. Thanks for the maps showing us whete it's located. Perfect.
Re - I actually am a little tanned (for me, cuz I don't tan) from spending time in the pool and just being outdoors more in general.
Our plan is to leave Tampa in the morning and drive up the east coast, perhaps as far as Virginia, then back west to his Mom's in Missouri to spend Thanksgiving with her and then home around the first week in December. We leave December 27th to spend January and February in Arizona.
My oldest sister, almost 80, was hospitalized yesterday with a serious UTI. Unable to even sit up on her own. I worry about her. She is very very over weight and has pretty much lost all mobility.

Still haven't heard if our offer has been accepted.
Our friends are on their way from my ex's house.
DH took another car load full to the dump. We are making progress. Yesterday we threw out a whole load of old travel guides, language tapes etc. Plus a rug I bought 45 years ago. Plus, plus, plus. Hooray!

Your experience sounds so much like what we just went through with our move from Ohio to Texas. We've been here for 3 months and this morning I asked Mitch if there was anything he was missing from the boxes we still have stored. He thought for a second and I thought for a second and we both concluded the only thing we need to find is our heavier coats! So starting next week I will have him bring one box out and I will go through them again and whittle down our stash! I must say it is a very freeing feeling to scale down!
The very best to you on this journey!

Hello
Slow morning start. I have been eating lots of salads , kale, spinach, spring mix. Veggies no real starchy ones but I enjoy it everything ok. Today my system is saying no ugh! Not feeling good! I need to shrug this off get moving it will help.
Today is a day to catch up on paperwork, Tidy up the house, go to the Y. I need to wrong to the store at one point. Pretty basic but at this moment I am wrapped in a blanket .
I enjoy cooking in a slow cooker too. I love how the food taste, also how easy it is get the food in , clean up the kitchen and let it do its thing. Makes cooking so nice no worries!
Have a good day!

Oh and Janetr, thanks for the pics from Florida. They took me right back to the two years we lived in Miami when the kids were small. I just stumbled across a photo from that time. The picture isn't great, but here it is.
Geez, I was gorgeous back then (not to mention how gorgeous my husband was)! Why on earth did I feel fat?

Good morning everyone! Today I turned 59 years old! Now I can live with that number for another 10 years. As usual I was up all night and I caught my DH awake at 3 AM. When I went to investigate what he was up to I got my birthday surprise! Who can't eat a cupcake at 3 AM? At least he only bought 2 one for him and one for me. He tries to be very conscious of what I eat. We will be going out for supper tonight! Today I plan on walking and swinging my 30 pound kettle bell starting at week one of the basic five-week program. Tomorrow I will do my strong lift routine with the empty bar just to rehab my muscles.
Have a great day everyone!

Happy Happy Birthday Mary!
I for one, took my young and skinny years totally for granted. It was all my mother's genes, if not for my overeating + babies + menopause + overeating + sedentary lifestyle + overeating = I wouldn't have such an unhealthy weight gain over time. But no looking back in the rear view mirror (no pun intended) I can stay healthy, fit and active in my own way everyday.

KJLaMore – I don’t think I have ever heard that description about ‘the girls’ before; I go for the smash and grab session each April. Finally, told GYN, that his technician was usually rough and I did not like the entire deal. He looked at me and said, ‘Mmmm, that is the 2nd or 3rd comment one of my patients have said today. She was not there after that. With the modern 3- and 4-dimenstional machines they now have, it isn’t unpleasant and you don’t have to stand on your tippie-toes and place them on a hot, sticky plate to be mashed until they are flatter than a ‘crepe’. I had told him once, that before he said to a patient that it did not hurt, he needed to put his “Johnson” on the plate and then answer that one for himself. I remember years ago, he had to be in the hospital for a week. One of my friends was his nurse; and, she said he could be pleasant enough; but, not a really good patient. I figured as much; but, that was a humbling experience for him, too. Two sisters who are survivors of BC make me ‘handle’ mine whenever in the shower. If I feel a lump; then DH is able to also feel it; I call early the next AM and they will usually work me in. Thankfully, not had to do that in a while.
Mary from Minnesota – HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Tomorrow is DH’s 75th!
I remember once after having my first son; the OB/GYN told me he wanted me to weigh a certain amount; I told him I had not weighed that since I was first married. I weighed even less in HS - 116llbs fully dressed, soaking wet with tennis shoes on. But, I knew when I was about to top 200lbs; I needed to do something drastic quickly. Then same OB/GYN came up with a more 'reasonable' goal and I am now 7lbs away; it gets harder the closer I get to it.
Need to get off and go check CaringBridges.org to find out how DBnL is doing today.

Unlike some of you lovely ladies I've never been skinny, I've been ok, strangely I was quite slim after first baby but that didn't last as had second soon after.
Was quite naughty yesterday, DH and I go to town, meet friends and drink, so had wine (won't say how much) and had 'chip butties' bowl of chips (fries) and 2 slices of white bread
Back on track today 30 minute cardio this morning plus my physio exercises then trip to town shopping so am over 10,00 steps already. Healthy evening meal, chicken, lots of veggies 2 small potatoes followed by small jelly which is only a few calories
Has anyone used slim noodles or pasta made with konjac flour?

I went to the advanced line dance class this morning. I brought my pillow so I'd be comfortable when I sat and watched the dancing. I got out on the floor to walk through the dances. There was a new dance and review of some newer ones that I don't know well, yet. I stuck to my plan and didn't dance. I felt great and have high hopes of being released to dance next week. I took a short walk before class this morning and my walking friend is coming over soon to walk with me this afternoon.

Carey - Thanks! It's been a long time coming. I have been a smoker for 40 years (yes, that means I started smoking when I was 10) and have tried everything from the gum, patches, prescription meds like Chantix and whatnot, all to no avail. Then I found the herb Lobelia and it worked! It made it soooo easy! This is my 10th time quitting and this time I think it will stick. I have no cravings anymore! I love being smoke free! Everything smells better, including me, and everything tastes better!

Carey - Thanks! It's been a long time coming. I've been a smoker for 40 years (yes, I started smoking when I was 10) and have tried everything. This was my 10th attempt and I think this time it will stick. I found an herb called Lobelia and I started taking it and within a week I was done with cigarettes. I no longer have cravings for them either.

Caught up on reading! As you can tell from my earlier post, I was having my mammogram done this morning. Got home had time to make myself a cup of coffee, and some zucchini noodles with hollandaise (lite version) and a side of cottage cheese and the kids arrived already fed and ready for crafting. Whoosh! They are napping now and the house is quiet. I love all of the pictures of the Halloweenies. We usually get no trick or treaters, which is disappointing for me. I am using the candy that I bought as a treat for the kids. If they are "helpers" during the day (good sharers, toy picker-uppers, meal time clean up, etc.) they get a star on their star chart AND a piece of candy. They don't really need it, and I don't like to give it, but between six kids being helpers; my day is less stressful, toys get picked up at the end of the day by some one other than me, and the candy will be gone/eaten by the end of the week (by some one other than me)!!
Welcome new girls!
November goals for me:
*Get back on the high protein diet
*No "treats" for two weeks
*plan all meals and prep for them
*stick to the diet
*log everything
*walk/exercise 30 min daily
Having the crud for four weeks wasn't good for me. My eating was everywhere! I ate what I felt like I needed or sounded good because I didn't feel good. Unfortunately, when ever I feel sick I turn to "comfort foods" which tend to be rich and creamy. Time to make some soups, tomato, chicken soup with beans or wild rice, butternut squash, mushroom soup, vegetable beef (with pot roast leftovers). I find it easier to stick to good eating habits if I can fill up on soup.
Heather- The house looks and sounds ideal. And yes, to agree with Allie, a coat of paint will go a long way!2 -
Oops! That's kinda strange! I thought I lost that other post! But there it is! WTH???? Sorry about the double post ladies!

Hello,
My name is Judy from Wisconsin and I am new to MFP. I started about a week or so ago. I am taking it slow trying to accomplish one goal at a time to get healthier. I recently had knee surgery and to reduce the stress on my knees I decided to try to find an affordable way to become more healthy. Yes, I have been on numerous plans before with success just... well... didn't maintain it.
I needed a program that didn't have a cost but was easy to understand and navigate since I am using my phone knowing that I am not tech savvy...AT ALL, . Also I needed a program that wasn't too restrictive with the types of food or times to eat.
November goals are:
Consistently drink water, at least 1 gallon a day with Lime and Lemon
More veggies instead of meat during the day
No eating after 8pm (current MFP challenge)
Lose 5+ pounds for November (current MFP Challenge)
Looking forward to the motivation and meeting everyone.
