Hello All,
I am in my first year grad school for a master's in mental health counseling. Part of this program is learning to self-care. After raising four daughters and going back to school I became so driven that I lost sight of this one huge aspect in my life. Being 58, with chronic asthma and fibromyalgia, just getting to class and doing all the homework seemed to take all my time. Well a B.A in psychology and now in my master's, I decided it was time to fine tune this body so I can do the work God created me to do.
I at one time battled bulimia nervosa and then anorexia nervosa and "dieting" and being pre-occupied with my body and it's weight was extremely dangerous.
My behaviors were always different when I was thinner and they were not all good. So I have been in the pre-contemplation stage of getting "healthy" again and maintaining a healthy life for about a year....today is the day. I just refreshed myfitnesspal goals and stats...ordered resistance training bands for exercise at home...always found that type of exercise to be very effective for me...taking all my supplements...doing about 4 miles a week of fast paced walking and cutting out sugar, breads, and processed foods. These last three are a must with fibromyalgia and it's taken me a bit to find the discipline to do it. I am very spiritual and will practice mindfulness, especially when partaking of food (gratitude, experiencing etc.) and mindfulness in exercise. I also do tai chi and hope to get back to that. This is my November beginning...and here is the main motivation...(besides health) to set an example to my clients that addictions and maladaptive behaviors come in many forms....I cannot ask them to set goals of health if I am not willing to set the example. I am otherwise healthy in all other areas of my life and this is the last piece. I encourage your support, accountability and friendships.

Heather – Happy you got the house you liked in Hove. It is a really cute house. I know you will enjoy it and any changes you make to it, and being closer to the DGC.
Re – Thanks! Jenn said that her Dad was really tired after a day or OT, PT, and having another MRI which still showed a bleed that they have been hoping to clear up on it’s own. They do not want to have to do any more surgery as it would be dangerous. Up and down and Suzanne does not like ups and downs. MD said that maybe it was because he had so much going on that day. Girls have come back home; Jenn might drive their car down so they’ll have a way to get home, if Tommy is released. But, that is not anytime soon. Suzanne wants to stay in Miami if he has to have any kind of ‘in-patient’ therapy. We are all so thankful that nephew told her to make sure they took her to Mt. Sinai instead of going to the nearest community hospital first. That probably saved his life. I have not checked CaringBridges.org yet today to see how his night went yet.
Cheri – We were pulling for the CUBS! Yeah, a great win after a dry spell of 108 years! Hope the little old lady they have interviewed on TV several times was happy with the outcome!

mujerita64 wrote: »Happy Thursday everyone,
I'm sitting here thinking how wonderful all you ladies are, how focused. You can actually take an entire month and set goals.
Here is the de-le-o, I need to make shorter weekly goals. I will keep the monthly goal, it is a splendid idea.
A month is a long time, so one week at a time it is for me.
This week:
eat good, healthy foods
exercise 3 times a week at the gym
drink my water!!!
fill out my food diary every day, remember to hit complete.
focus on positive, don't beat myself up for any slips I may make, move on
Love your take on weekly vs monthly goals! I tend to agree. I am using a Fitness Calendar found from http://sublimereflection.com/free-downloadable-fitness-journal/.
Steps this week. Drinking water next week.
Good luck with the weekly goals!

Oops...
Barbie- good for you going to dance class. I bet your feet were tapping to the music.
Heather _ great news. Envious of you getting your house decluttered
Juanita - super news on your hubby getting a new job.
Re-someone else said the exact thoughts I had reading your post about wanting to lose the weight now. My new daily plan is to eat mindfully. Think before you eat something. It is more about the quality of the calories you eat than the total for the day. Bless your heart, think about how far you've come. ((((Hugs)))))
Cheri- you figured the picture posting. Guess I am too old to learn new tricks.
Ok,ready to get on with the day.

Hello All
I've been in a bad spot for a couple of years now. Gained back the 75+ pounds I lost and recently was diagnosed with arthritis in my spine and fibromyalgia. But life is good, as is God. So onward I go.
November goals:
7000+ steps
Follow doctors orders to rest
Embrace life as it is

I'm BBAAAACCCCKKKKK!
Well, as you know, I've been super busy with the Halloween social. But in that time I have kept up with my exercising (did it every day) and for the most part decent food. I've been posting short updates about me on my homepage so people will know that all is OK, I've just been super busy. But know that you all were always in my thoughts
I admit, I'm going to skim. Please excuse me if I miss anything.
KJ - I've never had the pleasure of working out with any of the Beachbody DVD's
We didn't get much from the hurricane. We're too far inland. We're at the foothills of the mountains, almost to TN. Thank you everyone for your concern
pip - I need music for motivation, especially when I take the water aerobics class. It's so simple to start going slower but having music makes me push myself harder
Welcome all the returnees and new members
Awesome pics
Lenora - glad that workout worked for you. Is it only 12 more days to go?
Glo - so sorry to hear about your son
There are three buildings in our condo complex in Titusville. One of the buildings (not ours) had roof damage.
Lisa - congrats on your election
Re - I wasn't in for a while because I was VERY busy getting ready for the Halloween social. I'll post some pics of the indoor decorations. I did try to post on the newsfeed what was going on
When I had my flu shot, I at one point got so hot it was pathetic, Then I got so cold. And my arm was really sore for a day or two
One day I woke up and Apple in its infinite wisdom had installed Windows 10. I never asked for it.
congrats on all the NSVs and losses so my sympathies to those with personal losses
katla - congrats. What a gorgeous baby you have there
What was up this year? We had about 1/2 as many trick or treaters as we usually do
I HATE the time change
Thanks for the reminder that we are in November now
I like the setting the scale back. Now that's a setting back that I can live with. LOL about the midnight snacks
Happy Birthday to all those who had birthdays while I was gone
Well, I guess the big news is that we won't be going to Mexican Train any more. A few years ago when it was first started, the gal who always wanted it at her house, her house is small. People were telling me that they stopped going because there wasn't room. That's when I offered that she could host in my house. I offered twice, she never took me up on it. Well, she just now decided that her house is too small so she's moving it to the airport. The airport is part of the city of Hickory and if we purchase food from the restaurant there, we get the room for free. Only Vince won't eat their food, I'm not at all crazy about it. So, in essence, we'd be paying $14 for me to drink water. I don't think so.... They said that we could come and pay $3. So I get to pay $6 (not to mention gas $$ to drive there) for what?
Jess was in Charlotte at a conference so we went & had dinner with her yesterday.
I HATE Windows 10. Sometimes I just lose the curser entirely, and that just happened to me

Wow, Michele, all this is how you decorate the inside of your house???? I know you have huge decorations out for Christmas but WOW. So do you throw a huge party or is this all for yourself.
Joyce,, Indiana1 -
Lisa: Good news that your boss is hiring help to make your workload more reasonable. You are valued. Yay!
Mamatiger: Your grandson is adorable! My grandson also looks like Bamm Bamm, but doesn't need a costume for that role. He wore a different costume for Halloween. He was a tiger.
Mary: Happy Birthday! Shep looks wonderful. :flowerforyou: I love the lady turning the clock back. I wouldn't pick 20 for myself. If I did there would be no kids and no grandkids. If I could LOOK like twenty and not lose any of my life experience I would give it serious consideration.
Liz: Your friends gave you a fabulous "get well" gift. A clean house is so restful!
Cheri: Our best solar light died and we haven't replaced it yet. I'm telling DH I want another for Christmas—early. :grumble:
Michele: I am amazed at all the things you do. I'm sorry that Mexican Train is being high-jacked. Could you offer to host it at your house? Perhaps there are others who would step up for an occasional gathering at their homes for Mexican Train and people could take turns. (((HUGS)))
We are having a new door added to get into the storage area under the stairs. It is a big space and Harry Potter would have had a comfortable room there when he was still staying with his horrid Uncle. So far our project is coming out very well. YAY!!!!!!!

I had my phone appointment with the surgeon's P.A. today. The good news is that I can ride my exercise bike, lift 10-15 pounds, and drive (also bathe in a tub, use a hot tub or go in the pool, none of which interests me). The less than good news is that I have to wait for clearance from Physical Therapy about dancing and dog walking. First the referral has to go from the doctor's office to local Physical Therapy, then they have to call me, then I have to make one or more appointments to go in for whatever they want to evaluate or prescribe. I am trying very hard to not be bummed out by that. I guess I got ahead of myself and my expectations got me in emotional trouble. So I rode the exercise bike for 15 minutes and I'll see tomorrow if I have any ill effects from that.

Hello everyone! What happened to October? I fell of the proverbial wagon but am back. Today is day one of tracking again. The last couple months have been a series of setbacks- some minor, some bigger, but I can't let them keep me off track. My biggest challenge is the short dark days of the northwest winters. Love the long days of summer, but I really struggle with the darkness. And I want to eat all the carbs! The gym has a maintenance program that is an extension of the structured program that I did last year. I have to admit that I can't do it on my own and just sign up and pay for it. It is expensive, but, it is more expensive in other ways to not do it. At least that is my rationalization. I just set an alarm on my phone to remind me to call and sign up tomorrow- didn't realize that the gal who I need to sign up with is only there until 2 pm. Hoping if I call first thing in the morning I can start tomorrow.

Barbie You got good news and good things to get back to, including bike riding and lifting weights again. It's a bummer you've got to wait for dog walking and dancing, but such a wise thing to not overdo until you're fully cleared. You are moving forward, your expectations are just jumping too far ahead of your healing. You are headed in the right direction
Heather did I say congrats on the new house? What exciting news. The outside of the house is fabulous, I think it's what we would call a twin or semi detached? I love houses built mid century, our house was built in 1924 with an addition added in the 70s and we are taking our time fixing it up. The bathrooms had to be gutted and remodeled before we moved in, they were not in a livable condition.
One more grocery app to find more $$ every month, it's called flipp and basically consolidates your grocery circulars so you can comparison shop.

Hello!
I'm in the hotel lounge, catching up with you all.
It was great seeing my two friends, though it was clear one of them didn't want to talk about the problem with the other one. Don't think the "intervention " is going to happen. Nice evening though.
I met up with my cancer friend for tea and she has at last come to terms with the fact that the cancer is terminal. She has told her sons and is turning her mind to thinking about palliative care. It was an odd situation, but I was a bit relieved that she is facing it. Hard thing to come to terms with. I do hope to be at least a bit of a sounding board for her.
Tomorrow my friends and I are meeting up at the Tate Britain gallery and then having lunch in the Rex Whistler restaurant. I am making my own way over there. I need the space.
Love to all, much love , Heather UK xxxxxxx3 -
Joyce - for Halloween we usually don't decorate the inside of the house, but we did this year because we had the party. We're still in the process of taking the decorations down. All the outside decorations were taken in on Tuesday so they could dry out before they were put away. Fortunately, we haven't had any rain. I'm sure we're not going to be that lucky with the Christmas decorations.
katla - I've offered to have Mexican Train, and wasn't taken up on the offer (twice). So right now I'm in a way afraid to offer since I'm afraid it'll be viewed as "oh, you've always wanted to host, now you're jumping at the bit". I remember once a few years ago she had to go to a wedding and said "no Mexican Train next month". So many people said "I'd like to play but I don't have the room" so that was one time I offered to have it at my house (in add'n to the other two times). Even other people said to me "boy, she really didn't like you hosting". What's the big deal? She was recently gone for 2 months and someone else had to find places to hold it. Do you think she'd ask if anyone would be willing to host? No. Another gal asked me and someone else. Do you think I was ever given a "thank you for hosting"? Plus, I really don't want to tie myself down to having it EVERY month. As it is right now, Vince being treasurer of Newcomers we're committed to going to the general meetings which are the second Wed. of the month and to the Board meetings which are the last Wed. of the month. Another thing is that this one gal is handicapped and she wouldn't be able to get into the house. I'm sure the reason they're going to the airport is because she doesn't feel self-conscious going there. I remember her hubby telling me that they'd come to Mexican Train early and leave late so that she didn't feel like she was putting anyone out. It would be nice if people would take turns, but one of the guys in charge of finding another place to have MT said right out "we don't want to go to different places". That's another reason I'm sure they're going to the airport. It's his wife who can't get around. But the thing is really she's not doing anything to help herself. She's continuing to get cortisone shots in her knee. She isn't trying to lose weight so she can get knee replacement. And you should see what she eats at MT! Veges she never has, and very little fruit. But creamy sauces and deep fried food -- oh yes. She ALWAYS makes a dessert for MT. Her hubby was really trying to get people to vote for paying $3 and having them provide desserts and drinks so that his wife wouldn't have to make something. But people voted to pay $7 for a dinner and drinks. Personally, Vince and I don't care for the food that's served.9 Vince just got a cortisone shot and the MD said that always getting them promotes the deteriation of the cartilege, so the MD is hoping Vince will get 6 months to a year out of that shot. Yea for your project working out
Warning: RANT to follow:
I guess I'm feeling a bit peeved right now. When we had the Halloween party, I arranged to borrow a wheelchair for her to get in the house, and once in the house she can use one of our walkers to go to the bathroom. But she opted not to come. Yet, we have to go to the airport because she feels comfortable there but that is going to exclude us. Well, really the exclusion is our decision. But it appears no place else was looked at, just the airport.
Enough.....
Alison - and I didn't post any of the pics of the outside decorations. Wonder if I can post a video we made?
barbie - you're on your way, give it time
Margaret - yes, I did have fun. I also had fun looking on Pinterest for ideas. Vince just now was telling me how he has this idea for a tree topper. He saw something on Pinterest about it.
janetr - cute boats,
I'm going to try posting a video, hope it comes thru

Hi
Deb here, I've lost 130lbs over 10 years my goal is 160 but would be happy at 170. I currently weigh 192. Been a struggle, not lost anything in 2 years.
I'm from ft Wayne IN1 -
Linda here. I am posting here since we have a new monthly post. Checking in..... I am in maintenance now. 5'6" 155--160. Age 62. I lost 41 pounds or so in about 8 months time. I was still trying to lose weight when I was at the high end of my weight range. So really I have been maintaining 4 months.
I know I would of been very frustrated if I wanted to lose below 155 pounds. My weight range is 155--160, I am able to eat out at least 1x week, have my snacks and enjoy my new life style change without being miserable.
The only exercise I do is walking. I have been slacking on the walking lately.....so, this is my voice saying "Get walking tomorrow!" I never did walk the next day. I have been tired and sleeping later in the morning.
Also, I am taking care of my invalid bedbound Mom....maybe this is why I am tired. Mom is becoming more demented and confused at night. Emotionally it is draining at times. Mom has been here for 2 1/2 years. I really do not think she will last another year. Thanks for listening.2 -

Michele, I love your decorations, especially in the arm hanging out of the toilet tank...thanks for posting them for us to enjoy.....someone told me that you have to upload your video to YouTube before it will post on MFP...one of the reasons I have a Facebook account is that I wanted to see the video of your outside decorations a few years ago.
Deb, I hope you keep coming back...this is a great place to get support, encouragement, and great ideas to help you on your journey.
Linda, it's great to see you posting here...I hope you come back often....there are several of us who have reached our goal weight and come here for the necessary support to not lose track of where we want to be.
Thank you for your encouragement when I was feeling sorry for myself earlier...I am usually the one who goes right to gratitude and I slipped into whining instead....I did help myself by going for a walk and that made me feel much better.
