I have jury duty coming up and my boss has given me a predated written excuse to get out of jury duty because she doesn't think "regular people should have to serve on that level of jury duty." I'm offended in so many ways that I didn't ask what she meant by the statement.

    Good grief. 😳😳
Sorry that happened or was ever said. 😞

That kind of mindset is so infuriating.

I'm sure you're valuable, capable and doing a great job at what you do regardless of what people like that ever say.

completely outrageous. i'd rip up the paper and find a new job. *ideally*.

seriously though. absolutely inappropriate. you have every right to be offended. if i were a lawyer i'd fight for you to do this jury duty.

Well in England, they have professional jurors...
It's like they regular job, so in many respects, not a trial by peers...

Maybe that's what she meant, but tactles nonetheless...

No, whichever case you get assigned to. You get a summons in the post and you have to respond or you get fined. There are discrepancies in the way courts are run across the UK, ie I think Scotland and Wales have bigger or smaller juries. I don't think we have 'professional jurors'... *heads to google* 🤔

This makes me wonder about a “jury of peers.”

Do people with titles (do we still call them aristocracy?) get a jury of the same?

Is there a (nowadays theoretical) difference in the juries of nobility versus commoners?
