And with a vengeance

Those bats are mega sized!! We have little ones around here and I love going out at dusk in the early fall to watch them during feeding time. When I was little, we had them living in a shed of ours; when they'd fly in and out I tried catching them with a net. Never got one and most likely a good thing. I would've screamed bloody murder.4

Is it odd sounding to hear a 50 yr old man refer to his girlfriend? Is there another word to use for older prople, Significant other sounds stuffy to me.5

Call her your beautiful woman. Hugs and Butt Smacks
Be sure and tell Daryl that I said, Hello, won't you? Give him my best regards.

Just call her your treasure π
That's what I'd like to be called.
Guaranteed to be getting *kitten.* Kitten actually applies here.
Sorry I haven't grown up yet...too early for that π
Funny... I struggle with this too. Girlfriend and boyfriend seem so immature... And yet lady friend manfriend is just... Odd.
I tried using partner, but people assumed it was an LGBTQ reference.
In the end.. Sweetheart often was the go to. Now I just call them all my ex. Lol7 -
After reading the Christmas tree thread, I realized I was wrong to put down artificial trees. I think I did it in here.
I shouldn't have pooh-poohed anyone's holiday spirit.
I'm sorry.6 -

It does sound odd to me when I hear it, but I don't think it should, at least not for me. I want to shake the oddness out of hearing it because I want to lose those ageist sensibilities. It's like, why does it have to sound odd? People in their 40s, 50s and beyond should be able to have partners they aren't married to and I should be able to call those partners by the same descriptors as I would for a younger person.
I've never liked the term significant other. Next time I'm in a couple I'm definitely going to refer to him as my boyfriend, until it feels normal.

For me it's the whole "boy" and "girl" nomenclature. It feels childish. I don't tend to refer to grownups as boys or girls.0 -

I get this.
Until we come up with something better, the alternative would be man/gentleman friend or woman/lady friend.
But I usually think of these as terms older people use to describe either their friends of the opposite gender or maybe people they're dating. So it seems like there's an age category for those, too.

Umm are congrats in order? π
I think girlfriend sounds totally normal regardless of the age.
If you canβt get used to it but like having her around, you can always change it to fiancΓ©e π5 -

My uncle has referred to his SO as his "Ol lady", since he was like 30... π
Out of every thing I've ever heard, I still like that one the best... And that Dude is probably the cockiest machoist Latino I've ever known... π, he's also the funniest...
I really gotta get better at catching up with people π2 -
What I found more odd is when my mother was dating and I would say , " mom & her boyfriend "0

Well that depends on the seriousness of the relationship. If it's just a female you know it won't last, girlfriend seems appropriate. If it's someone you're looking into a future with, fiancee, wife, love of my life....
In truth, whatever name you choose to refer her to as, she will be happy with because she'll have you1 -

Maybe just call her by her name ? Do you have to qualify who she is to others ?
Congratulations in any event.. going to be in the dad bod thread soon? π0 -

@reenieHJ - thank you so much for the kind words about my song.
I just finished work for the day! YAY finished early, and they're letting us off the hook for more work tomorrow, so I'm done for the weekend. I am so fried mentally from this week that I just want to sleep... but really need to do a workout and actually feed the kids, so maybe just a quick nap. lol

When I was young and skinny I thought I was overweight.
Now Iβm old and overweight and realize how much time and energy I wasted when I was young fretting over my body and looks.
Itβs a real kick in the butt.
Thing is, I could explain this to a young woman who feels the same as I did and she wouldnβt believe me.
I wish I hadnβt wasted that time being unhappy with my body.7 -

Well lets just say its a hypothetical relationship. π. So lets just say im talking with you and i say, me and Xiomara went to dinner last night. You say, who is Xiomara? I say, she is.........darlin? That is no good unless im speaking with her.....but what about when i talk about this theoretical female to you? I think i will be stuck with girlfriend.....
Good thing this is a theoretical situation π2
