Ah life. It floats us along then slaps us down to the ground, or underground. In everyday there is good and bad; we need to make sure we look for the good and keep our goals in mind.
It's been a little while since I have posted. The new baby had just arrived and she is doing well still today.
I had taken my daughters kitten and after two weeks I was able to return it. I think that her now-ex boyfriend had hurt it, intentionally or not. Kitty was in shock when I got her and slowly got better with the help of a vet visit.
Daughter and boyfriend broke up a week after I took kitty. In the process of that, my daughter was involuntarily detained for mental health evaluation as she threatened to hurt herself.
During this time I still had an obligation to my girls bowling team, who won their district championship and went to the state tournament. No win there.
Also during this time I got called to interview for a position. I made it through the screening interview and now I have a phone interview Wednesday. I really hope this is a fit for me and the company.
I had also taken my cat to the vet for a checkup and to look at some raised spots on him. The spots were biopsied and Duke has cancer. Still learning about that.
Had an overnight visit at my Mom's. She is being difficult and 'poor me' because she is having problems with a kitty fighting issue. It has her down.
In the last three months we have had three car accidents in the family. All have been the other parties fault. Now my husband is seeing an orthopedist, as his back is out of whack per the MRI and he definitely feels it. Not debilitating pain though. The cars are all fixable. I am afraid of what my insurance rates are going to be for the next few years.
I could use a week in the keys with some fresh fish on the grill and a drink in my hand. Since that is not in my immediate future I guess I better figure out what to do today - since it is noon already.
Just for today 11-5-2017- Clean horse barn
- Vacuum house
- Clean bathrooms
- Plan dinner for the week
- 10 K Steps
- 64+ oz water
- Log all food
- Wash Car
- Practice / study for interview
Sounds like you’ve been busy! And not for particularly good reasons.
It’s great you still come here though and post your goals, there’s just no stopping you!
I really don’t know what to say regarding everything that’s happened.
I’m sorry Duke has cancer, have they said if he would have to be put down or anything?
Will your husband get compensation claim? I would of thought as the accident wasn’t your fault your insurance shouldn’t be affected but tbh I’m not really clued up about insurances and stuff (that’s what OH is for lol)
And I’m sorry about your daughter. When did that happen? How is she feeling now?
Does she struggle with mental health generally?
It’s lovely you managed to help the kitten out and get it back to its usual self!
And good luck on the job interview! Sounds like you could do with some positivity!

@junodog1 Wow, when it rains, it really does pour! So sorry about all the situations, hopefully family and kitty are all on the mend. Glad you posted again. Good luck with the interview!
Recap Sat. 11/4 - No definite plans w/ hubby today, but rainy so no yardwork. Have grocery & sundry shopping to do. Maybe a movie later? = Slept in, felt so good to not rush into the day! Spent afternoon shopping & bumming with hubby, so fun. He had me drive his new used SUV to get used to the handling, in case I need to drive AWD this winter.
1) Call dad to wish him happy 83rd birthday...so glad I visited them last Sunday = done, had a great call
2) Walk dog if break in rain = walked 3.58 miles, lots of folks out with dogs taking advantage in rain break, happy & wet (from pavement / grass) dog Fitbit 16,837 steps, 250+ steps 9/14 hours, and 28 floors.
3) Net calories w/i 100 of green = Nope, red red red. Was on track, but got home about 6:30 & starving. Cooked Sam's Club pizza (ate 3 slices!) for supper.
4) Drink >10c water...something I'm not as good at when spending day at home = 12c b/c I kept thinking of JFT goal
5) Move clocks back 1 hour tonight = done
JFT Sun. 11/5 almost noon
1) Walk dog in afternoon
2) Drain rain barrels...they never got empty this entire dreary, rainy summer / fall

Ha -- thats what hubby tells me!! But ... I usually don't eat before I go to the gym. So I have to do something to distract myself from eating! Hubby's appt is at 1:30, mine is at 2:30 - so it will be a long day!1 -

Haha I know you don’t eat before gym! I’ve already told you that you should and now I know you haven’t been!! Naughty!
I was just worried because you won’t be able to eat after either. Wouldn’t want you to feel poorly by the time your appt comes x3 -
Yesterday
1. Green calories
2. 9 cups water
3. 5000 steps 4706
4. Go for a short walk it started raining as we walked out the door

6. Plan for the week ahead started on it but ran out of time
Today
1. Green calories
2. 9 cups water
3. 5000 steps
4. Go to BodyPump class
5. Start homework3 -
Recap Sun. 11/5
1) Walk dog in afternoon = Short walk 1.83 miles around neighborhood, after all the yardwork done & happy dog
2) Drain rain barrels...they never got empty this entire dreary, rainy summer / fall = Collected 10-12 gallons for watering houseplants before drained remaining rain water & stored barrels for winter. Plus did some raking & hauling branches / brush to curb and put few more things in shed. More than I planned or thought would get done.
3) Drink > 10c water = 10c but should have been more with all my activity & sodium
4) Net calories green / it's meatloaf, squash & parsleyed red potatoes for supper - yum! = Beets instead of potatoes, and tried lemon zucchini cake for first time...pretty good, had to guestimate calories for food log. Unfortunately, I caved in evening when hubby got out tortilla chips & salsa con queso. Usually when he snacks I can ignore his eating, but not this time. Can you say sodium? Net calories red > 500 even with activity logged. Ack!!!
5) Bedtime & TV off 10:30 even though it will feel really early = Exhausted from busy day / no problem.
JFT M 10/6
1) Walked dog 3.43 miles before work, actually had daylight to walk in with time change & happy dog
2) Move hourly & stairs breaks at work
3) Net calories green
4) Drink extra water to flush sodium from my system
No bedtime goal, although I should really have one with time change. But, Packers play Lions on Monday night game, and I have to watch the game! No dog walk planned before work Tues.1 -

Maybe just this once, skip the gym so you can feel ok until doctor appt.
I usually schedule my annual physical months in advance in order to lock in an early morning appt. I would be a basket case otherwise, I eat breakfast every single day. I don't eat before 6 a.m. dog walks, but always eat after.1 -
I missed you all-crazy times at our house.
I'm going to focus on the minimums today. Scale was up a lb so I need to get back to honest tracking (who am I fooling w/my lack of effort last week?).
Walk dog in hilly park, 30 mins even if it rains.
Starting some productive morning rituals (share soon).
Drink 11 cups of water.
Track meals & snacks.
Ab crunches, plank.
Plan suppers for week.
Prep for mom's visit.
My husband and I occasionally share this quote...it's kind of a reality check for us.
"I will not live like I'm waiting to die".
Wishing you all a great day!

@Bex953172 , et al my lovelies on JFT- My Duke Cat will be with us for awhile. I just don't know how long. We will likely not treat the cancer, but will euthanize him when the time is appropriate. I am debating consulting a specialist just to get an idea how widespread. It mostly external MAST cells, but it could be in the internal organs.
- Husband will be with me for a while too. For the first time ever after an accident he is working with a law firm. I think that injuries can be more, well just more, when you are older.
- My Daughter has never before had an indication of mental illness. We will keep an eye on her. She was in a relationship that we had no idea how toxic it was. We actually liked the guy. Now that we are hearing more of the story of their time together a different picture emerges. She is resistant to the idea of counseling with someone like a psychologist, but I think I can get her to talk to a "life coach" who will help her set goals and find her direction.
- And little kitten is doing so well! She is a wobbly little love and I am so glad she made it! I got to visit her at my daughters on Saturday.

Don't kill anyone at work4 -
*sigh*
My second night on the sofa!
All down to this stupid cough.
I’ve nicked one of my partners inhalers. Which is helping keep my airway more open so it’s easier to cough.
Just wish I could stay in my own bed!
Although I do get a completely undisturbed sleep down here it’s just the sofas not very comfortable! I can’t stretch out fully!
Gonna try drink more water tomorrow! Need to get the cold gone and more fluids should help right? Somehow..
Sorry you're under the weather! Feel better.
And beautiful name choice!2 -
Yesterday
1. Green calories Barely, but I made it!
2. 9 cups water I think I left my cup in the car
3. 5000 steps I keep getting close and not finishing out the day!
4. Go to BodyPump class I survived, and I'm feeling it this morning.
5. Start homework I didn't start last night, but I did the whole thing this morning so it's already done.
Today
1. Green calories
2. 9 cups water
3. 10000 steps (Zumba this morning)
4. Have house clean before leaving to be ready for 10am meeting
5. Work with mom this afternoon (assuming Zumba the day after BodyPump doesn't kill me)
Love reading everyone's accomplishments each morning. I know I don't respond much to others, but I'm reading and cheering you all on!5 -
I got a little caught up on past postings....
@Bex953172 Hope your cold is getting better (and the girls are letting you rest ). The inhaler can give such great relief. I use mine whenever I feel it getting into my lungs.
@junodog1 you are so strong to stick to your goals given the challenges you're going through. It's so painful to watch a child struggle & I pray she's getting help & doing better. Lucky to have a mom who cares for her so much. As for the ex BF...Karma. I hope you get a break from these challenges, you deserve it.
@joan6630 how did your day go at the doctor's? I can't get out the door with something in my stomach! I love seeing your progress report-it's so inspiring.
Kids are home today as it's an Election Day.
Walk dog in neighborhood. 30 mins.
Listen to newest Half Size Me webinar while walking.
I've planned most of the meals for the week which takes some stress out. Shopping is done!
Tracked meals/snacks for day.
Stay within 1600 calories.
May go to gym if I can convince youngest to come too.
Drink 11 cups water.
Afternoon snack is veggies.
DH has a diverticulitis flare up so managing that for next few days. Not the best patient.
Clean house-when my house is messy it does trigger me to "procrastin-eat"
I need to stop thinking that every time I have an ache or pain that it's something catastrophic. Have to enjoy life!
Welcome to all our new JFT members.

@brittk2013 you've got some terrific goals!
2 -
I am recommitting after being on again off again wishy washy and gaining and losing the same ten pounds three times in the last year. Prior to that I had a very small, very steady weight gain of 1/2 pound to 1 pound a month, and well....here I am. I am 5'10 and in good health, just starting working out again.
Highest Weight: 267 (2011)
Low Weight: 158 (2012)
Current Weight: 209
New Goal: 170 (190 by years end, 170 by March 1.
My goal today: Workout (done!), 80 ounces of water, stay in calorie goal. No alcohol during the week, and if on the weekends, has to fit calories.3 -
Recap M 11/6
1) Walked dog 3.43 miles before work, actually had daylight to walk in with time change & happy dog
2) Move hourly & stairs breaks at work = Fitbit 14,887 steps, 250+ steps 14/14 hours (boom) & 41 floors
3) Net calories green = Much better than prior two days...net calories red 12 and sodium green.
4) Drink extra water to flush sodium from my system = 15c water & daily w-i better
JFT T 11/7 - non-dog walk day
1) Move hourly & stairs breaks at work
2) Net calories green
3) After work, finish 4-6 items on to-do list / so far behind
4) Unwind 9:30 / floss & retainers / bedtime & TV off 10:152 -
1. drink water only until 2:30
2. after our appt, don't eat like crazy. I will be hungry, but make wise decisions Just went to the grocery store deli and had dinner - had chicken, green beans, and popcorn in the evening
3. go to the gym in the morning And didn't pass out or anything
4. get back on here - be accountable.
Doctors appt went well - and I was surprised that I could go until 3:30 before eating!!! The doctor was pleased with my weight loss -- I was down 17 pounds from when I saw him a year ago. (actually down 30 from a year ago, but after we saw him in Sept, I had gained a lot of weight during the holidays!). But ... the doctor told me just 10 more pounds and I would be in the "healthy" range -- out of the overweight! So .... got to keep going, no matter how long it takes. I am realizing that, unlike when I was much younger, the weight does come off much slower!
SO JFT, Tuesday
1. log all food
2. going out to dinner with a friend - make wise decisions
3. drink water in the evening
4. minimum 8 glasses of water today. This is still the hardest goal for me to meet for some reason -- I just keep forgetting to drink water!!
@cschmitz110515 -- do you really walk 41 floors!!!! WOW! I use the stairmaster at the gym, and so far I can only walk 11 floors (started at barely able to walk 4 floors!) Great exercise!
@Scarlett_S - welcome! We are able the same height, and with the same goals! (I am 5'11"). Welcome to the group - we have the most motivating people on here. We are all going to be success stories! If it were not for this thread, I probably would have given up a long time ago.
@Saragirl2 - we missed you! Good for you for planning meals so good. This is another thing I struggle with doing. I just don't seem to make the time to sit down and plan, but I know the weeks I do, it makes such a difference (and makes dinnertime so much easier!)
So many posts to respond to, but I'm running late again as usual, and need to get back to work! But I love reading everyone goals!5 -
@cschmitz110515
41 floors!!
I can barely do the one floor in my house and that’s like 12 steps.. and I know them stair masters are much much harder!
@joan6630
Well done on all your goals
10lbs to go eh? Well you will have lost half of that by January won’t you?
Is it 4 you have to lose from now til jan to achieve the 5lb Oct challenge?
2 -
Is it 4 you have to lose from now til jan to achieve the 5lb Oct challenge?
I am hoping to be at 186 by January 1st - (I was 191 on Oct 1, so 5 pounds from that would be 186).
Boy, wouldn't I love to have those 10 pounds off by Jan 1st - but I always gain between 7-10 pounds between halloween and New Years. I LOVE to bake cookies, etc. It just doesn't seem like Christmas if I don't bake. Every year I tell myself, no baking, as we don't have any family anymore to distribute all the goodies. But then I think..... little grandsons need sugar cookies to decorate ... and thats my son's favorite cookies! So I end up baking a double batch of sugar cookies, and I probably eat half of them. Hubby will eat sweets if I put them in front of him. So I have to figure out something else to do besides Christmas baking -- or try and find recipes that are good but lower in calories! Any ideas you guys - besides Christmas baking??? I already to a lot of sewing, so thats not a substitute for me.
So for me, even if I can just stay the same for the October Challenge, it will be a win win for me!
To get to be in the "healthy range" I need to be at 178 pounds.4 -
@cschmitz110515 -- do you really walk 41 floors!!!! WOW! I use the stairmaster at the gym, and so far I can only walk 11 floors (started at barely able to walk 4 floors!) Great exercise!@cschmitz110515
41 floors!!
I can barely do the one floor in my house and that’s like 12 steps.. and I know them stair masters are much much harder!
My stairs are a combination of things, no stairmaster involved:
* Elevation changes when I walk dog...I use MapMyWalk for my routes, which shows elevation.
* I work on the third floor of my building. Enter on first floor at start of work and lunchtime, and skip the elevator. Take stairs breaks hourly down to basement and back up.
* Hubby and I have two story house, bedroom is upstairs, and we use basement for storage and pantry. Many days I am up and down both sets of stairs multiple times.
Last year I started taking stairs breaks at work because we don't have a break room, and I was spending all day at my desk. I wanted to start moving more. When I started, I was puffing big time when I got to the third floor, but now it's no problem.
A few months ago, Fitbit added tracking of 250+ steps for up to 14 hours, so I have the setting at 14. I like to get the "boom!" message when I manage to move all 14 hours. Just a little competitive.

[@cschmitz1105: Hoping your Reformation celebrations went well. Our organ recital was great---everyone loved it--six area organists played for 10 minutes either a Lutheran hymn or a Bach adaptation of same.
As you are a Lutheran, you might appreciate this little gem. One of the Lutheran churches in town contacted a local brewery and had a beer made following a recipe from 500? years ago; they called it 95 Nails, and there were pix on the front page of our local paper showing a group of Lutherans (what else) quaffing the brew. Too funny!
@Joan6630: Oh --- I wish I lived closer to go to this!! LOVE LOVE LOVE Organ music!!
So nice to hear that organ music is appreciated! As I noted above, our organ recital went very well. The church has a big four manual organ with 4500 pipes, so we had a lot of choices. In addition to the organ selections, the pastor commented on the connection between Luther and Bach, and the congregation sang Mighty Fortress, and another hymn that Luther had composed. It's so exciting to be singing and playing music that was created 500 years ago. The reception that followed the event was great---way too many good cookies, so now it's back to the real world of logging and posting goals.

@Joan6630 @cschmitz1105 @asclepsia
I love the thought of an organ recital. My dad grew up as a pianist, but learned to play the organ in the chapel at the Naval Academy. Big old pipe organ. He built his own electronic theater style organ in the 70's. It had two rows of keys. In the 80s he took the family down to Tampa and surprised us with dinner one night at a restaurant called J BURNS PIZZA AND PIPES. (Closed now) It had an awesome restored pipe organ. In Gainesville, I loved to attend concerts of the University of Florida pipe organ. Ah, good times.
@Bex953172 - Lovely name you have chosen. Keep up the good habits you are practising.
