@karllundy and @lporter229 At 1st I was thinking I just wanted to stay close to home, but then I searched fastest marathons. #19 is in Hamilton, Ontario not far from where my brother lives, and Im pretty sure he'll be running that one. However, I only have 2 vacation days that aren't already accounted for and I'll probably want to use those around the holidays.

#50 is in Milwaukee...my home town!! The Lakefront Marathon! So, I can stay for free and won't need a car, just gotta buy my plane ticket. It looks like the route is mostly along Lakeshore Dr, which should be pretty, hopefully with autumn leaves. It's the 1st weekend in October.

Should be nice and cool in Milwaukee that time of year. Fall marathons are great for PRs because you train in the heat and humidity of summer and running in the cool fall weather is like a breeze!

And it's plenty hot here in Texas that time of year so the break from the heat will definitely be welcomed!

To preface this, I have a appointment set with my Primary care physician who's a DO....Question for ya'all, could tight quads cause pain near the top of my shin? I notice it most when going up and down stairs. When I run, it goes away after a while. The reason I asked about quads, is I did some stretching at my desk, and I noticed that my left quad is a lot stiffer than it used to be....

50 miles managed - final mile completed tonight despite really not feeling it. Not going to set a goal for March until I go to the physio next week to find out what is up with my hip

No run today so the month ends with 90.8 miles out of an initial goal of 70, revised to 90.

I will see you all over in the March thread. I don't have a goal in mind yet but will ponder it on the plane tomorrow to sunny Arizona! Probably no run tomorrow so my month will start on Mar 2.

Congrats everyone on a great February.

@skippygirlsmom - so happy that you won't need surgery and I hope the non-surgical treatments are a great success.

February total to date – 203.01

Nominal Challenge Goal – 225 miles
Real Goals: Survive travel to and from Bend. Train well toward Boston. Avoid injury.

Today's notes – Final February report! Today's assignment was 2 x 3 miles at T pace with 3 minutes recovery, then 4 x 200 at R pace with 200 recovery. The nice indoor track was closed because it was set up for a non-running event tomorrow, and the setup was prior to 5 PM. That canceled evening use of the track, even though the facility was not in use for the special occasion during the evening. Grrr!

So I ran the interval workout on the outdoor track, because the weather was nice enough to run outdoors and I hadn't brought my headlamp. With the headlamp, I could have at least run the 2 x 3 miles at T on the roads instead of doing laps on the track. But I expected to be indoors. Oh, well. I substituted 4800m for 3 miles and called it close enough, though Garmin autolapped the miles before 1600m. Huh. The first mile, I had to pass some people; the rest of the time, I pretty much had the dark track to myself. Add a 2 mile warm up and a 1 mile cool down, and I got over 10 miles in this evening.

So for the month of February, I'm over 200 miles but short of the nominal 225 mile goal. I knew this was coming, as I missed too many running days in the disaster of travel to and from Bend. As far as real goals, I'm running very well right now. I had the stamina to run the 2 x 3 miles at T tonight, I ran the 200s at R faster than I thought I could (39, 39, 40, and 38 seconds), and I'm feeling pretty healthy. So I'd say training toward Boston is right on track, and I survived the travel to and from Bend in decent shape. Real goals were met, and I'm not going to fret about being short a few miles for the month.

Finishing up February with with a run on the treadmill tonight. 3.4 miles in 37:37. Warm up walk, 5 x 5 mins run/2 mins walk, cool down walk. This was my first run on the treadmill post-injury but it wasn't too bad since I was doing intervals. The flat and even surface of the treadmill makes me hyper aware of my gait and running symmetry. I can tell I've improved a little bit but I definitely still have a ways to go. Tomorrow evening is my much-anticipated gait analysis appointment and I'm very interested to see how it will go.
