Allie I feel for ya, together DH and I spent 1.5 on shoveling out the stairs, sidewalk and driveway. I got to push the "green monster " our electric snow blower, my wrists are aching. We followed that with hot chocolate-I had ginger tea and Aleve! Grumbling that we need to move to Florida the whole time !!
We will see how tricky the commute is going to be tomorrow, now the storm is pounding Massachusetts, stay safe chris!

Ginger - I love working out in the water! You can really push yourself and work against the resistance of the water. It releases a lot of endorphines for me. I work at a YMCA. Most Ys will let you come for a day pass for free. I hope you give it a try.
Heather - Congrats on the paperwork getting done and the invite to play with the kiddos. Can't think of anything I cook that would delight my hubby that much, you gormet, you.
Lenora - Giggled away at least 50 calories while that chicken was crossing the road! Thanks!

grogers511 wrote: »Toni - I want to do a water aerobics class. DH discourages me. He thinks I'll start and drop it - since I'm not much of a morning person. I think I'll have it to look forward to and will find renewed energy from it. I'm having trouble with arthritic knees and think it would be good for me. And.. if I start and drop it... who cares. At least then I'll know whether it's for me or if I need a different class. How sad is it - I've driven to the YMCA -3 times but never went inside? ;-)
I loved all my aerobic classes I have ever done! Presently we are not able to, saving money to pay the tax man and all that, but do it. Mornings are the best, and once you get in you hear and feel your body saying thanks. If they do water zumba that is a blast! If they offer a tai chi kind of class,(our aqua center had a warm pool), try that out too!

Ah - not good news on my husband's wrist. Three breaks, one of them splitting the radius into a fork, basically, and a lot of damage at the thumb side of the radius, scaphoid and trapezium also fractured. For the non-medical, it's bad, but fixable. They're 90 percent sure it can be repaired with screws in the hand bones and screws and plates inside the wrist. Surgery will be Wednesday (press day, of course). All the pre-op testing and registration will be Monday.
The surgery is outpatient, and it's 90 miles away, so lots of driving for me. Thank goodness the thyroid meds are working. Two months ago, it wouldn't have even been possible, I'm thinking.
If all the plates and screws are internal, it will be two weeks before they start physical therapy (that's the 90 percent chance). If they have to stabilize with metal plates screwed in that are installed on the outside of the wrist and hand, six to eight weeks before he can even start PT. They expect a few months off work, either way. Minimum. Luckily, workers comp will pay all the medical--we just don't know how much of his paycheck he will get in the meantime.
My boss is sure going to be glad she took a week off this week--'cause next week's going to be tough on her.
And my husband.
I'm holding up better than I expected. A few tears this morning when I talked to his boss. Just fear and frustration. Apparently, I thrive under pressure.
And now I guess I'll have to be nice to him.
Glad y'all are here!
Love y'all,
Lisa in West Texas3 -
Hello Delightful Damsels!
Well, I guess I am going to have to verify my DH’s research before I make any reports... I finally googled the Alligator and the chicken...
“While most states look to groundhogs for their seasonal weather forecast, everything is bigger in Texas -- including Big Al.
The 14-foot, 1,000-pound alligator makes perhaps the most scientifically-sound weather prediction of any animal every year using his favorite food -- Kentucky Fried Chicken.
According to gator-rescuer and naturalist Gary Saurage, alligators are genetically unable to eat until all danger of winter's freeze has passed; their bodies cannot digest food until warm weather is assured.
The science is simple. If Big Al eats his KFC, spring is on the way.
This year Al passed on the chicken, predicting six more weeks of winter.”
A thousand pardons, my Texas Sisters... I have failed to report the weather accurately... Based on Big Al’s findings for 2017 – we do have some further danger of winter. Based on the MUCH chillier temps, today, I can believe it. I will formally retire my blue screen and my weather maps!
AND, if this week has been a busy one, next one promises to be more so...
Went with DH this morning to his annual check-up. He is 62 now – He is diabetic, with high cholesterol and high blood pressure... he has had strokes and DVT’s and kidney issues and, and, and... And there is a family history of Cancer, a plethora of heart issues. So... they want him to get another ultrasound on his legs – just checking for any more clot issues, and they want him to get a colonoscopy, and see a cardiologist, and, and, and... Ooookaaaaay. Sure. No problem.
But, right now, I am kinda busy, too... PT twice a week, full time job, taking care of him. (cook, maid, laundress, chauffer, man of all work.) All of which he knows. So why, my friends, WHY – knowing that we have not only my regular Tuesday/Thursday PT and my regular early day at work on Wednesday – but a visit for a Diabetic Study on Monday and his annual Diabetic eye exam on Tuesday – WHY did he let them schedule his ultrasound on Wednesday?!?!? *sighs* I swear – the man is trying to kill me. Next week is going to be just a smidge busy... and I don’t foresee a great deal of cooking going on.
And let’s not even talk about when the heck I am supposed to get to the gym when I have one or TWO early appointments every day next week? Grrrrr. I have been counting on getting at least a few calories burned, since I dropped my CICO goal to 1400. So, next week might be dodgy for me...
Fortunately, I have an oddball work schedule – I work from 11:30am to 8:30pm – which allows me to accomplish all of the above without missing any work... however – it likely will involve me missing some sleep. He scheduled the stupid ultrasound for 7:40am.. Thank God it’s only ten minutes from the house! And has anybody here tried getting to downtown Dallas by 8am? It requires a great deal of time, and effort... so, no sleep on that day, either.
For Valentine’s Day this year – I want a NAP. Tuesday’s schedule: 8:30 am – Diabetic Eye Exam – in Allen. 10am – PT in Richardson. 11:30 am – Work in Addison. I just don’t think that I am going to have a lot of energy for Nookie after I get home (around 9-915pm) and generate some sort of food substance. By the time said food substance has been consumed – say, by 10pm and we watch a couple of hours of TV – to allow said food substance to digest – it will be time to collapse into bed so that we can be at the Ultrasound by 7:40am on Wednesday.
And the man wonders why I get cranky? It’s a miracle I have managed not to kill him in 28 years, together. If I vanish off the face of MFP – it’s because I have gone to the Big House for Spousacide. (I know I could never get away with Murder – which is probably what has saved him, this long!)
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
SueBDew – You are hysterical “bumping” our thread... AS IF it would ever go stale enough to need a bump... LOL. How you doing, Sugar?
Cheri - You might want to hold off on that spring garden planting... it is still possible that we might experience that rare phenomenon in TX... Winter after February.
Charleen – Judge? I am jealous! My gym doesn’t have fans, and it would have been exceptionally nice if they did! Of course, I am riding the stationary bike, now, anyway... Darned knee!
Lanette – I went back to Joseph for my ten year high school reunion – ages ago – but have not been back, since. Just for giggles, I did go take a look at the city website, today... I know that when I lived in Joseph, it was a blue collar kind of town – with a bunch of tourists that poured through in the Summer months because of the Wallowa Lake State Park and some “Summer People” that had cabins at the lake. The year-round people were practical, hard-working red-necks. They REALLY didn’t like Californians – who had started to flood North for the dirt-cheap property...(yep, my family was part of that wave.) In general, the highest ambition of the males in my graduating class was to get a job at the mill, take over Daddy’s farm, or drive a logging truck. The highest ambition of most of the females was to marry one of the males. It would appear that not a WHOLE lot has changed – although now the tourist season may be extended due to the foundries and bronze art scene and the ambitions for either sex might now include a job at the foundry. The population when I lived there was under a thousand... 960 or something like that. The city website lists the current population at 1054 – 34 years later. I imagine the limited growth is due to the Art people and the foundries. ~ My fence is a basic privacy thing. Everybody has them, here. Gratz on the consistent and low blood sugar! The “Pre-Diabetic” diagnosis last year is one of the things that drove me back to the weight-loss trail... 20 lbs and regular exercise nipped that diagnosis in the bud.
Marni – Sorry about your slip... Your “Breakup” sounds like what is happening to my thighs right now... they're melting and flowing like mud... *sighs* So not attractive.
Joyce – LOL. I HOPE none of our bellies are blooming! Most of us are a wee bit old to be having babies... LOL.
Sherry – I might be able to fake up a “before” picture –as there is still a large portion of the fence that is in its “original” condition – although, mind you, it’s the part that was NOT falling down.. I fixed the worst of it, already. Man, I want a box of spare cats! I miss having my fur baby.
Sarah – That fence is a project and a half. Trust me, if I could have afforded to get someone in to do it for me, I would have already. Interesting about the swearing... I guess I don’t have to feel quite so guilty about it, anymore... LOL. And Honey – SMARTEN UP! That food will NOT make you feel better – you do not need it – your body is just trying to trick you into giving its fat back.... Stay Strong!
NYKaren – At least she is responding with a smile...
Nancy – The sore knee and the weight-gain are probably related... I know when my knee was hurting – it was swollen... the whole leg was a little puffy. Mine was mostly better after about two weeks of no exercise. The cortisone shot just sealed the deal. (yeah, two weeks... sorry.)
Karen/VA – Hugs and healing thoughts for you and your little grandbaby! Poor little tyke! I hope she gets out of there, soon.
Rita – Ah – yes... the stress. This, too, shall pass. Gratz on selling the house!
Yvonne – Your fence guy is probably just like me... Too beat to consider taking on a massive amount of work on a weekend. You could be right about the materials, too... Those metal pipes are pretty expensive – but SO worth it. I figure it will take me about 5 or 6 months to replace my fence – there is a lot of it – but, once I do... it will be good for a long time to come and I won’t have to worry about it anymore – as one way or another, I will sell that house and move before it needs another fence.
Becca – My Sisters and I have often spoken of just such a thing... buying a four-plex or some land and living in our own separate abodes – but as neighbors – sharing a pool and a yard and whatever other incidental “stuff” that you only use part of the year. We dealt with the men issue by just deciding we wouldn’t have any – at least not any permanent ones – living with us. Since our hubbies are all of a more advance age than we are – we just decided we would be widows, together. Of course, we can’t decide WHERE the compound should be... LOL. Some of us favor a warmer, drier climate, others like the north, either in the east or in Oregon. So... it is likely our little Utopia will never come to pass... Oh well – I guess we will have to have more than one compound for the 50+ thread... I am pretty sure there are enough gals here in TX to start one.... :] Lunch looks yummy!
Michele – The Pelicans look great!
Tammy - I did Cindy’s Christmas Challenge – I lost 24 pounds in 24 weeks – thru the holidays. It made me stop to think before I stuffed that extra slice of pizza into my mouth – which is all it had to do. I liked it so well that I joined up for the Summer Challenge, too... I am hoping to get another 24 pounds off before the really hot part of Summer in TX. Besides – at 190 (down from an MFP start of 260) – my silhouette will look pretty darned good. Naked? Not so much – but, hey – whatcha gonna do? At least I will look good in clothes. And like Barbie said, the number at the end was significantly lower than at the beginning. Truly, just finishing puts you miles ahead of the people who drop out.
Heather – Hurray for your up-coming Bea Fix... ALL those kids are adorable. I would want to move closer to them, too.
Kelly – ((Hugs!!))
Charleen – EEEEEK!!! NO notice? I would be in serious trouble with the law – as I might NEVER look at my driver’s license!
Lenora – Gosh, between you and the other chicken post, I am thinking about chicken strips... LOL.
Ginger – GO TO THE YMCA....GO INSIDE.... GET INTO THE POOL... I promise, you will love it.
NEW Gals: Tailwaggers, Ccinep, Ravjit2, WhispersII, Honeybunny4 – Welcome... we post a lot, we talk about everything, and you never have to be alone, here – as our gals are flung across the globe. We try to catch everybody – but there is only so much time, so... try not to be hurt if we don’t specifically talk to you. Just chime in where you feel so moved and enjoy.
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Today, we had DH’s annual check-up at 8 and I had PT as soon as I could get there – which was 9:45 – and so, it’s pizza for dinner. Fortunately, I have planned and pre-logged for said pizza – so as long as I don’t succumb to a meatball or some of DH’s food, all will be well... AND I will get to eat pizza! LOVE that stuff. Since I have my workout clothes with me, I think I will stop off for a 15 minute hard pedal before I go get the food.
Hugs for Everybody!

Hello all: Finally 54* here today. It rained and melted most of the snow. Horse paddock is a muddy mess. We went into town to the bank and to get groceries and there was water over the road in three places. Will finally make it to the YM tomorrow I think. Dog got groomed this morning. Groomer comes to us in a specially equipped van. She looks gorgeous now.
Lanette - Hope you continue to stay high and dry.
Joyce - Thunder snow is awesome. We had it twice when we lived in SD. The lightning when it is snowing is spectacular.
Karen VA - Sending healing angels to the DGD.
Katla - Glad your DH is doing so well. Glad that the next one is scheduled.
Ginger - I love water aerobics and Yoqua. I participate in both at the YM. I taught arthritis range of motion classes in the pool for over 30 years. Also worked 20 years in hospital rehab pools so I am a major proponent of water therapy. It was the absolute best for rehabbing after knee replacement. I was in the water 2 days postop.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA3 -
Karen ... Olivia is precious! Prayers said for her.
Prayers for Reid as well.
Kelly ... hugs.
NY Karen ... my friend's daughter (also a freshman) was having a snit with my friend ... cool if not downright rude, ignoring texts and calls for three weeks ... my friend was heartbroken. Then she decided not to do anything more and stay silent herself for a while ... lasted less than a week and daughter was back to calling and chatting like nothing happened. Just a thought.
Husband's x-ray did not show signs of vertebrae destabilization, but his pain is not normal nor is it explainable so they've ordered another MRI ... I see more surgery in his future.
I traveled (from Buffalo to Cleveland) to be with my mother today who had her surgery for uterine cancer. We've been up since 4:00 am. Fortunately the snow sort of swooped past this area. None yesterday as I was traveling and then just a little last night and early this morning. My mother did very well during surgery ... they've kept her overnight due to her age. Total hysterectomy at 85! We had her laughing 1/2 hour after she was in her room. Tough lady. My dad, 88 decided he wanted to drive to the hospital although earlier he had asked if I would. Changing his mind and driving was not a good decision and, while he drove to the hospital, I drove home. When we stopped for dinner, I had a very difficult conversation with my dad. He's agreed to discontinue driving on the thruway ... he had pretty much stopped anyways and why he chose to drive today, I'm not certain?? This morning, he made several potentially deadly errors on the road. Fortunately it was early and traffic was light. I'm sure we'll have this driving conversation again, but at least he's agreed for now. It is so very hard not being able to "pop in" on my family. Four hours is too far away when your parents are aging ...
Going to bed.

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .
Good Evening My Dear Friends,
Katla, glad to hear things went well with DH’s surgery.
Joyce, I hadn’t seen the shower commercial but it looks cool.
Marni, I love having our own personal “Ready Reference” right here in the group.
I’m wayer behind that I was before. May have to skip some but since the weather is supposed to be terrible tomorrow maybe I can catch up. Who knows. Congrats to all with victories and NSVs. ((((Hugs))) for all that need them and prayers for all of us.
to all the Newbies. Come often and join in the chat. This thing works!! Please sign your post with what you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to respond to you. Also a location is great, be it specific or general. We are happy to have you join us.
I’m so excited!!! My cruise buddy has worked it out so that she can come to go on the cruise with me in April. That is the best birthday gift I could get.
Sending love, good thoughts and sunshine to all of you.
I Love you

Karens: Olivia and Reid are in my prayers. Hope to hear they are out of NICU soon.
Rita: WoW!
Katla: Glad DH’s procedure went well.
Lisa: Ack. Sounds like many more hours in doctors’ office ahead for you. (hugs)
Charleen2: First time my Co license expired, it was pointed out to me by a TSA agent. I had taken several trips and rented a couple of cars before anyone noticed. Go figure.
Today I had the kind of day when my cheese was nowhere near my cracker. Is it a full moon?
Aw well, tomorrow is another day. Supposed to be 75 degrees here. Early spring? Or has Big Al eaten the chickens that were trying to cross the road? Gosh I learn such interesting factoids on this thread.
Stay well friends. We can do this.

Sasha, Bess and Floyd, you are very cute in your outdoor apparel.
Lisa and Re - sorry to hear about the DH medical stuff. Scheduling their appointments can be a wild time and yes, when you work and have your own medical issues and needs.....slipping DH a mickey sounds appealing. I'm just talking a nice nap! And them waking up in a better mood and more cognizant and appreciative of you.
Re, what exactly is ailing your knee?
Karen, Olivia is a sweetie .... sending healing thoughts her way and also for the family issues.
Marni, I cringed thinking of you slipping on the ice...and others of you who landed on their tailbones. When I was in high school I slipped coming down cement stairs and landed right on the edge....and a black and blue line across my tush right at the tailbone. I must have cracked it...anyhow it's very hard for me to ride an exercise bike (and other bike unless it has a "tractor seat") as my whole "sitting" area becomes numb quite quickly.
Beth, glad your mom came thru the surgery so well. Both my mom and my grandmother (her mom) had hysterectomies in their 80's then had to go for radiation as I recall. But both did quite well recouping from the surgery = piece of cake for them.
It looks like there will be moderate flooding in the county but not much on my side of I-5. Chehalis River on the west side will be flooding many roads tonite, the rain subsided quite a bit after lunch so it should crest early.
I have put "The Story of Us" on the Hulu list.. love it when I find one everyone likes so well! Tonite is the Alone season 3 finale on History channel and we'll be tuning in shortly.

Water Aerobics OK. I'll do it. I'll go to the Y. Go inside. And get in the damn pool. I even bought a new swim suit in anticipation of doing it this year.
...Ummm... I should probably sign up for the membership before I jump in the pool. Or ask them if I can try a class first...2 -
DJ (#1) I'm so happy your cruise buddy was able to rearrange her schedule, I was about to let Jack know I'd be packing for my first ever cruise. . Good birthday present indeed.

I figured out my knee issue is due to nerve damage. It is part of the reason it is taking so long to heal.

Toni - you know it'll go by the pool. Vince just put up more shelves in the garage for my ceramics. He said "you'd better stop making outdoor stuff or we're going to have to start putting shelves up there (pointing to VERY high)
Went to the Wine & Design. It was nice. Most people brought a cheese ball, some went to the store and bought some sort of pastry (gag), one lady did make hot chocolate. I took cucumber infused water (I can't get over how much of it was drunk) and shrimp phyllo tarts. When we left, I gave a box of 12 to the gal who runs the place. Actually, I really didn't need them in the house.
KJ - that's great that your pants are looser
Charleen - the same thing happened to Vince -- his license expired and he didn't know it. We usually do get a reminder to renew it, but something must have happened this time and they missed sending it to him. Great that you could put down your new weight. Bet that felt really good.
Vince put my new keyboard on while I was at the Wine & Design. It has a different "feel"
Lenora - from the highest point on the pelicans to the bottom of the tree trunk, it's about 18" tall
Welcome everyone new. For the lady who asked if there were rules -- the only rule is to be respectful of others. We're all on a different path. You can get some great ideas from the gals here
How I wish our Y offered water zumba. I can't do zumba on land -- too much impact. But it would be great in the water. I really like water classes. I can't believe how much water I drink in the class or how high my heartrate gets.
Lisa - so very sorry about your hubby. You, too, Beth
janetr - LOL chocolate! Thanks (and so true)
Off to take a shower.

Ginger - so glad you are going to try the water aerobics. My friend convinced me to go with her (I was petrified in deeper water) once I got in, I absolutely loved it. Such a good work out with very little stress on your knees or feet. I even managed to get into water where I couldn't touch bottom.
This is Us. Best show in a long time.
Olivia is a beautiful baby. Prayers for her and Reid too. Hopefully both will be out of NICU soon.
Re in TX - totally understand how you feel about "spousicide" My DH suffered a minor stroke 3 weeks ago and is off work until the doctor gives him the OK to return. I know he means well, but there are days when those thoughts cross my mind too. Thank goodness I do not have to drive him to his appointments.
Tammy in Montana - some times it feels like "13 months of winter" here.

Sending Hugs to all. Take of yourselves and have a great day tomorrow.

Lisa, all that surgery will be outpatient?????? All I can say is WOW! I'm glad I am not working as a nurse anymore. It would make me so nervous knowing I not only had to take care of the patient after such an extensive surgery but teach the caregiver also.
Re, can you call the place that will be doing the venous study and see if it can be moved.
Am watching Project Runway Jr. It's amazing what these teenagers can make in one day. The youngest is 13 years old. I was still nervous going to summer camp at that time.
Barbie, love the new fashion.

Hi everyone -
Lisa - so sorry to hear about your hubby's injury. Sounds like quite a challenge is ahead for you two.
Ginger - be careful - you might become addicted to the water! I have done water aerobics off and on for 20 years. When I had my first knee scope I hobbled to the pool on crutches as soon as the surgeon said I could. When I had a replacement I had to wait 6 weeks. It nearly killed me.
Beth - thinking of you and your mom tonight.
Barbie - love the doggie coats!
Pip - your Floyd looks so sexy!
I have been forgetting to post my BP and BS. I have missed a couple of days. Tonight BS was 130 two hours after dinner. My BP was up 153/79. The only thing I did differently was exercise - go figure. Thanks for keeping me accountable!

Hello all, I got WAY behind on reading the posts. I've been reading for a bit, but still have a long way to go. But I hope to catch up soon. Just wanted to check in.

• Calories and Tracking. I overdid the calories today. Sigh... but I still tracked it. And I won't eat anything else today since it's after 9pm and I'm not hungry. Que sera, sera. Tomorrow is a bright shiny new day.
• Fiber. And I got my 30g fiber too.
• Walking. And... I'm determined to get my 30 minutes today. I've got another 10 minutes to walk... and I need to do one session with Leslie Sansone.
• In 2014 - i averaged walking 4 miles daily and getting an hour of active Fitbit minutes. (Those count after you move at a pace for 10 minutes minimum.) I regularly joined Fitbit challenges and my highest day was 36,000 steps in one day. I would love to get back to 10,000/day.
Thank you all so much for being such friendly supportive folks. Honestly - I've run away from another group (not MFP). Posting daily accountability helps me build those habits again. And maybe... just maybe... I can help someone too.

It is our understanding that Olivia will be "rewarmed" from hypothermia therapy tomorrow and they will begin assessing her neurologic status. The fact that she is stable enough to warm her up is good news, though she is still a very sick baby. Thank you all for your love & support.

I don't think you can live with someone for nearly 30 years without having the occasional thought like this... And yes, Joyce - I could reschedule... except - there just isn't that much of a better time. I figure I will just suffer through this one week of hell and then move on.
I was just so frustrated that he didn't even THINK to move it out a week or ask me, or whatever.
