When someone asks for your 'secret'

Doesn't work. You need to fry them quickly while still alive(kinda like boiling a lobster). Otherwise they just crawl around all over the oven.
I use a beer trap to catch my slugs, that way they are premarinated for when I fry them. I found a nice dark stout tastes best.
Instead maybe I'll say I eat one like a raw oyster, which causes a nice purge and kills my hunger during the subsequent 3 day fast. Repeat every Sunday.
Sadly, I'm down over 40 lbs but nobody has yet asked for my secret.3 -
i used to try to explain cico, but had much of the same experiences as others. now i just say that i started paying attention. if asked to elaborate i'll say that what i pay attention to is how many calories i eat in relation to how many calories i burn. then i reach for the wine bottle while people shoot skeptical looks in my direction and one *kitten* will normally tell me that i can't lose weight and drink wine, which, if it was even remotely true would kind of negate the whole way the conversation started. if i'm feeling super snarky i'll tell them that i hula hooped for 18.45 minutes in order to accommodate 8 oz of pinot noir but if we're gonna have to have this conversation again i'll up it to 36 minutes.8

Lol.. really? I have cheese every day almost. I just don't want YOUR cheese.

I bet people will listen if we just refer to it as the CICO Diet and tell them to google it. Once it has a "diet" name attached to it, people think it's the new magic weight loss kick of the year.
On another note, I don't understand why people who ask for the "secret" say it's to hard to log calories or there is something obsessive about it. My own sister tells me she doesn't want to be a "calorie counter". Do we also think that people who run their finances on a budget are "obsessive"? No, we call them financially responsible. So, we should just tell people we are calorically responsible and end it there.18 -
Had it happen in synagogue yesterday. I answered "MFP. I just log what I eat and stick to the calorie limit they give me."
"Did you have to give up bread?"
"Nope"
"Desserts?"
"Nope"
"Anything?"
"Not really. I've had to find out what kinds of foods keep me feeling fuller and enjoy other stuff in moderation but... nothing's actually forbidden."
Cue wide eyes and a promise to check out this site. Only thing that would've been more perfect would've been had she approached me while I was still eating my weekly planned treat of 2 pieces of potato kugel and a piece of sponge cake. (Okay, I'd planned on a frosted cookie instead of the sponge cake, but I can't eat what they don't serve.)11 -
I usually say the secret is COMMITMENT! When you commit to your goal their is no question about who is accountable for attaining the action(s) necessary to achieve that goal! Not what people want to hear though.4

My husband struggles with the idea that it's as simple as CICO. He's got a bunch of buddies at work who have never been overweight but constantly give him "advice". I definitely want him to lose weight and be healthier but I also almost dread it because when he decides (for the 20th time) that he's going to lose weight he spends a ton of money buying special "diet" foods that he'd never eat normally.
I will tell him that it's just about calories and to just add a few healthier choices in but to eat what he likes only less. He'll nod his head and then the next day come home talking about how his buddy said he needs to be drinking special shakes and cutting out bread.

I'd say lots of protein, cardio, and CICO. People ask how I can eat whatever I want and stay thin and the answer basically boils down to hard work. I 'earn' it in a sense. It makes me upset when people assume it's just 'metabolism'.0

When asked I tell em Richard Simmons videos...13

For me, it's not about the "secret"... I keep getting asked "are you allowed to eat that on your diet?". Sure. I can eat a pizza, drink a beer, whatever. Hell, this very night I ate *5* slices of a *pan* pizza. I choose healthy(er) toppings than I used to. I choose to go light on the cheese. I also ate a very light breakfast and lunch because I knew I wanted to pig out on a thick pizza for dinner. People just don't seem to get the concept of actually thinking about what you put in your mouth and planning your consumption.
On an unrelated note: that's an awesome avatar, @katadx5 -
"Wow you look great, how'd you do it?"
"No junk food, no alcohol, exercise at least an hour a day."
Aaaaaand...they're gone.

I like to have a little fun with this. I've genuinely said to several people 'Kanye's Workout Plan' and walked out of the room.8

I'm in the don't discuss your program with outsiders camp. When people asked me what I was doing my answer was "old fashioned diet and exercise" and then I ran away. Less said the better.1

I mostly just say "I've been working out a lot" or "you know, move more, eat less," but this one guy wouldn't leave me alone about it and kept saying weird things, so I said "kickboxing!"
I really like your idea, though.1 -

I like this. I really like this. It goes against absolutely everything that is proper and good, so I think it would work very well.
We need to come up with the CICO plan

I've had a few people assume that I was starving myself then started telling me that I had lost a lot of weight in a short period of time and they were concerned. It took me two years to lose 2 stone.
Some people expect there to be some magical pill that'll make the weight go away or for it to drop off by itself but they don't want to listen when you tell them about commitment and exercise.4 -
Other than pregnancy/post pregnancy I have always been about the same weight so I don't get asked how to lose.
BUT along similar lines...The comment I get from women all the time is, "you just eat whatever you want and stay thin don't you?" Or "you can eat anything right?" "I wish I had your metabolism." These comments really annoy me. It totally discounts that I workout hard 6 days a week, that I have run marathons, and triathlons, that I read every food label, measure everything I eat.... People would rather believe that I have this magical "fast metabolism" and that I eat 3000 calories a day (not 1200 on the dot).
But like everyone here said, no one wants to hear about working for it.6 -
Along with the eat less exercise more, people hate to hear that I tell myself I'm GOING to do something and then I do it. Someone tells me, " I have no willpower" I say, "You have no willpower because you tell yourself you have no willpower." There goes the eye glaze...2

People always seem disappointed when I tell them that I just "eat less and move more". Not gonna lie, I enjoy their sad response because they are hoping I'm going to say some miracle diet/pill/procedure/workout. Nope.... just eating less.
In reality it's a lot more. I count macros/calories. I exercise hard. But they don't need to know that bit.0 -
I have to say that I've been that other person, glazing over and preferring to hear about an easy fix that involved following a 'plan' that would get the weight off sooner than was healthy and would mean that I could eat as much as I want. I was told about MFP and looked at it but just couldn't bring myself to bother with counting calories. It was too much effort and I am a busy person. I don't know why one day I decided that I'd give it a go....It took a few days to get into the counting but it worked and still is working. Now I glaze over when a person who clearly is not having long term success with their chosen 'quick fix' tries to sell it to me4
