RITA ~ Happy Birthday! Glad you got to visit with your children.0
-
Rita - I hope you had a great birthday celebration with your family! I am excited to hear about your RV purchase and retirement plan. My DH and I are starting to plan for a very similar situation as yours. We have less than two years.

Katla and Sue, love the picture, it just is fun to see some of our group getting together. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks ladies on the sweet comments on our newest extended family addition. My oldest sister called me last night to tell me about her newest great-granddaughter. My sis will turn 80 in a couple of weeks, she's not able to get around or even get out of bed since she fell and broke her leg almost 3 months ago. She's at home, her youngest daughter (58) lives with her but it is not a good situation. Not sure how that will play out.
On a more positive note, five weeks ago I wrote down what MFP said I'd weigh in five weeks following my plan, which was 8 pounds. This morning scales shows down 6 pounds in that five week period. I'll take it.

Lots to catch up on! Gotta get ready for work but really quick: Welcome Hannah! Bea is adorable! Glad Olivia is doing better! Great pic of Katla and Sue -- who is who?
We were discussing Vitamin D yesterday, I take 5000 IU per day and have for probably 15 years on advice of my doctor. DH does the same.
I just saw an article about on NPR about how the Vit D test might be misdiagnosed in African Americans which might be of interest-- http://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2013/11/20/246393329/how-a-vitamin-d-test-misdiagnosed-african-americans
We got our snow, but it's all slush. YAY!
Make it a good day!

Taking a mental health day from work today. I have been working our entire department by myself since September. We were only two people deep and the other person quit. Why does it take so long to get a new hire in place in government jobs? I have been working for the same boss in different positions for the past 12 years. I like her but she is a frustrating person. She has wanted me to change positions for over a year now. We keep talking about it and I have turned it down 3 times. She told me two weeks ago, if I would take it then she would give me a raise. So I said I would, then last week she told me it was the same pay grade as my current job, so it would be a lateral move and no increase. ARRRRRRRGH!!! I turned it down again. I told her if I couldn't at least be raised to the same wage as the previous person that held the position (and just as a matter of fact I have two more degrees than that person) then I saw no benefit to moving and would stay where I am.
She has done this type this before. She had me interview for two other jobs over the years and then would give the positions to someone else. All the while telling me what a valuable asset I am to her department. A few weeks ago, she came into the office at a very busy point and had the audacity to ask me what exactly did I do in that office. My filter had a hole in it that day. I told her send me home and find out what I did in that office.
Now mind you if I had a subordinate to say that to me, I would have written them up. But she just backed up and said she didn't mean it like it sounded, she just needed a duties list for both positions for the job announcement. She added that she could see I was swamped so there was no rush on getting her the information.
Of course I was busy, we were ending one semester and beginning a new one. That is the busiest times of the semesters. Anyway, now we will see what she does, which is probably nothing. In any case, apparently I won't be changing jobs after all.
Sorry about the rant, but this situation just frustrates me to no end. I have Sunday night anxiety every freakin' weekend. I have to take a Tylenol PM just to get to sleep. So you see, I do need a mental health day. I wasn't even going in today and still didn't get to sleep until after 3 a.m.
Think I will try to get some semblance of organization going in the upstairs rooms today. My husband wants to make my son's old room his office and since my daughter married and moved out, the upstairs have been in a shambles. I am not supposed to climb stairs because of my knees (dr.'s orders) but its not going to clean itself and my Dear Husband is too overwhelmed by the chaos to make any progress. So It falls to me. Think if i get the old clothes left by the kids cleared out and off to Goodwill it will be a start. Then I may sneak off and treat myself to a manicure.
Have a good day ladies and thanks for enduring my rant.7 -
JOLENE ~ Hugs! Sorry you are in that position with your boss. I think she knows you do such a good job that she wants to keep you for herself.
JOLENE ~ By the way, I wanted to tell you that your pup looks just like my Pom. Mine is what I call a "Giant" Pomeranian because he weighs 16 lbs and is not the tiny usual size for that breed. He won't eat dog food or treats of any kind. I have to cook him lean chicken, pork and beef. Lately, he has been letting me add cooked rice and that makes it so much easier. Yes, he is a spoiled boy and has us under his thumb.
QUEENE & PIP ~ Love the pics of your pets. Had to look up Queene's cause I had never heard of that breed. Evidently, they originated in Japan.
I am over the moon today because two days in a row the scale has said that I have lost 5 pounds since January. I know most of you don't think that's much but I am very short (5' 1"). I have been eating a lot of protein and very little carbs and I think it is working.
Carol in GA7 -
Carol in GA, that's a huge success. Way to go. It's so encouraging to see/feel progress.
Janetr okc0 -
Janetr and Carol - Both of you, excellent job! :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:
Both of you don't have much to lose so that is even more wonderful. By the end of my weight loss it was creeping down at less than 2 lbs a month.
Kate UK - I wouldn't do anything until you have seen the doctor. He may have to give you some sort of form to say you are fit for travel. Go by his or her advice. But I know they can get very shirty and stubborn if they think they have a way out of paying up. Anything not declared is grist to their mill. At least you have the EHIC, but that wouldn't cover all of it and wouldn't cover extra travel costs or accommodation. See what the doctor says.
The hygienist visit was uncomfortable, but necessary. She says I still have some long term tartar to get rid of (they like to rubbish their previous colleague ) so I am booked to go back in 3 months for a top up. I floss etc regularly, but tartar runs in the family.
My DH 's favourite mushroom risotto tonight.
Sue - I hope your bowel obstruction isn't serious. Get well soon.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx2 -
Margaret: I hope your DH gets home ASAP! (((HUGS)))
Sequimtrim: Welcome to a great group! Stop by often for companionship and support. :flowerforyou:
Lenore & Becca: I love Endangered Species Dark Chocolate, too. I used to be able to buy single serving individually wrapped pieces at the local store, but they stopped stocking it & only stock bars now. I order my single serving 72% dark chocolate from Amazon now. I can really just have one. With larger bars, I don't have the discipline to stop until it is all gone.
Rita: Happy birthday!!!
Lanette: I'm the middle person in the photo, between Sue & her daughter, Molly. DH took the picture for us. It was really fun meeting in person. DH was good sport about being surrounded by horsecrazy females.
Carol in GA: Congratulations on the loss. In my experience, the closer we come to our goal, the slower the weight comes off. :flowerforyou:
Sue: Sending good thoughts your way. :flowerforyou:
I have to miss yoga twice this week. Today DH has an appointment to get the first eye checked. If it is healing well enough he'll get the second eye done on Wednesday. Please send good thoughts his way.

Katla and Sue- fantastic picture of you too! So glad that you guys could get together. It's nice to be able to do that with friends on here.

Hey Carol,
Yes we call Jasmine our diva dog, lol. She is a standard Pomeranian. She weighs 13 pounds. She is a spoiled girl and headstrong too. She loves chicken and rice. I make it for her and Eliza Jane (our Chiweenie) whenever either one is not feeling their best. Eliza has a lot of digestive issues. Really having them today, I think we may have to run to the vet in a bit she has been throwing up several times this morning.1 -
Hope Eliza feels better soon.2
