Carol prayers for your son.

Our church is doing an activity where you have a decorated card board box that is place all over your house. The objective is to remind that god does interrupt our plans at times and shows up when we need a nudge.
I almost didn't take one because for me He has been nudging me constantly lately and I do not need a box as a reminder to that effect.
I took one decorated in hearts to remind me he is speaking. Listening is the hard part.

Up at 4am, then out the door by 5am, to arrive in Portland, for husband's procedure. Getting some lesions removed from forehead and temple area. Hugs my ladies!

Carol thanks for the tip about Hibiscus tea, I could use some anxiety (and cholesterol) lowering tea!!! I am trying to get my coffee drinking to a more modest amount--over 4 cups a day and it affects my sleep.

Hi, I am at my brother's house and relaxing before the party meal. My DSIL is in bed with a migraine. I hope she will be better by the party. My brother has gone off with my nephew to decorate the venue.
If any of you think you are untidy or cluttered you have to see my DSIL 's house! They have always been like that. I don't know how they can live like that.
Love to all. I will enjoy myself more without DH but I must not drink too much tonight.

Today was cardio and leg day at the gym. 30 minutes on the elliptical, then 30 minutes of various stepping exercises holding 3-lb weights, 10 minutes of bicycle, then wall sits, squats, and side lunges 3 sets of 20 each, then 5 more minutes of bicycle. Just to clarify, the guy I called out on the music was not an employee of the gym, just a personal trainer who does his business using the gym's facilities. The gym itself does not play music. People are expected to use headphones and the words across the bottom of the TV screen (what is that called? its driving me crazy that I can't remember the correct term). Sometimes our class instructor plays music but it is oldies or beach music, nothing offensive.
Hugs to all who are having health issues or whose husbands are sick. Carol, prayers especially for your son and the loved ones of his friend. Suicide is always tough.
Allie, sweetie, you need a break. I am so sorry. Rita, also thinking about you and whatever you are going through.

Husband back in for more cutting. Seems to be simple procedures. Looking forward to getting back home. Hugs

Got home from hospital last nite but can't say I'm "well". Still on antibiotics and you know what all that causes. Taking it easy today as not too steady. Have a soft diet to follow for 3-4 weeks. Doesn't seem too bad but I may gain weight. They weighed me everyday in hospital and I gained 2 lbs a day while on iv fluids.
When I got so bloated I couldn't' bend my fingers they put me on lasix (sp).
Re-I was so happy to talk to you. Sorry I wasn't feeling too great.
Charlene - what a great honor for your quilt to be selected.
Thinking of all of you. Keep on keeping on. I also have that finish the bag syndrome. But now am much restricted so maybe I will get over it.

SueBDew, glad you are home from the hospital and hopefully will be on the mend quickly. "Gut" issues can be scary.
Katiebug, thanks for the music clarification. I recall one time our gym actually blasted some "offensive" music throughout the place and immediately folks came up to the front desk complain. They said it was in the "mix" they just bought and hadn't realized it was in there. Well over half the members at our gym are 50 and older, I'd say--good music critics, lol.
Hopefully the trainer you had words with learned his lesson. Sometimes folks don't seem to respect boundaries including their "noise" others have to endure. Or maybe they are just plain unaware. It happens.
Carol, how sad about your son's friend. Been there. Sending good thoughts his way.
Rita, I am proud of your optimism during this rough time. Thanks for keeping us up to date.
Charleen, kudo's your quilt being accepted into the show! It's a lot of hard work that I don't have the patience for so I'm in awe of those of you who design and create them.

Good afternoon all!
We've nearly made it through another week.
Becca - Ooh, homemade rose water! What a luxury! Do you make it from your own roses?
Joyce - How wonderful that your nephews found the strength to fight addiction. They obviously have great family support.
Re - The soup thing is really this time of year, when it's not hot enough for air conditioning yet. I'll stick with open windows and fans as long as I can stand it, but once the A/C goes on, anything goes in the kitchen (although I do try to keep baking to a minimum).
Karen - So happy for the continued good news about Olivia - sounds like she is well on her way! My dad has a lot of mistrust for modern medicine. His mother and brother were the same way. But what I can't figure is why on earth if he was hurting badly enough to think of calling an ambulance, he wouldn't then do anything about it the next morning. If my sister hadn't insisted, he probably still wouldn't have called the doctor. That said, I'm very happy that he's still with us. We lost my mom at 66, and it was way too soon. She kept all of us, including Dad, in line.
Charleen - Congratulations on being a semi-finalist with your quilt!
Allie - I'm glad you're socking away some money. It's always good to have a little cushion, just in case!
Rita - I don't remember to meditate either. I know I ought to do it, but I just don't make time. It seems silly to have to make a duty out of relaxation, but we should probably set an alarm or something.
Carol - How sad about your son's friend. He'll never know how his choice affected the people who cared about him.
SueBDew - Glad you are home - now wishing you healing and a smooth recovery!
I've had a bad case of the don't-wannas when it comes to exercise, but at least I'm keeping my calories under goal. Now that I've got that back in hand, it's time to push myself to get back on the exercise.
My thoughts go out to everyone who is troubled or struggling right now.

Hello ladies,
Bright sunny day here. Busy with odds and ends around the house. Skipped water class and now regret that. I work tonight and need to get dinner in the crockpot so we'll have some dinner to come home to at 9:00.
SueBDew - so glad you are home. Sending you healing prayers.
Katiebug - words across the screen = closed caption. I "lose" the simplest words more and more lately. My friends and I joke that we have become each other's translators. If one of us loses a word, someone else often knows it and chimes in with it!
Speaking of "losing" thoughts - I've forgotten who is struggling with storm cleanup... (Beth?)... I have to confess that I slept through the storms here last week. I wakened enough to know it was thundering and pouring rain. Thought - "Okay, no water class this am" and decided it would be a great day to sleep in. Didn't hear the storm sirens over my white noise machine. When I saw the news later, I found out we had had several F1 tornadoes touch down in our part of the city. A marina was severely damaged with lots of boats underwater. Luckily no serious injuries.
I am missing Marni and Kim. Hope you ladies are doing alright.
TNToni off to fix a beef, cabbage and bean soup3 -
@suebdew i'm glad you are home and I hope that your body will get back to normal quickly!

Hey all! Babies finally asleep! It has been a CRAZY morning/couple of days. I/we (DH and I) have had a series of things happen this week. All of which, when compounded with my DH's wonderfully sunny outlook on things (that's sarcasm), has sent me into the "dark side". The light in my kitchen breaking this afternoon was actually my turning point. I got the kids down for nap and went to change a burned out light bulb. I had to take the glass "bowl" fixture off the light to get at the bulb and the bowl dropped down onto the table and shattered. Shards of glass, pieces, splinters, glittery glass dust everywhere. The bigger kids that nap on the couch were heading my way, so I jumped down and gated them into the living room and began cleaning up with much (quiet) swearing. The kids calmed down, I calmed down and fixed myself a big plate of pasta. Yes. I ate enough carbs to feed about four marathoners. As I carb loaded. I got to thinking. I guess it's not a bad thing that the light broke. Last week, I was just looking at flooring, paint, etc so I could fix up my kitchen; I would have changed up the light anyway. Problem flipped So...I decided to see if I could "flip" my way of thinking about some of our other "events" that have occurred this week. Here are my thoughts:
1. Daughter just got an estimate from the hospital of what her costs are going to be for having the baby and it is about double what she had planned. DH's first response was one of parent that feels obliged to send money (that will make our budget tighter). I am instead going to suggest that daughter and her hubby look at their budget, cut what they can, and contact the hospital and set up a payment plan. problem flipped
2. DYS received a promotion to department supervisor of the Home Depot he works for! Yea! Problem is it is about a 45 minute commute and will most likely lead to him moving out. DH's first response is one of stress and concern because he feels DYS is too young and not able to handle his own finances/budget/life. My first response, gotta admit, is how much I love this kid and don't want him to move out (yes, he's my baby). BUT...I really think that he needs to move out in order to grow and figure out life. Living at home with mama is WAY too convenient and easy for him. In me, he has a maid, cook, bank, buffer between he and his dad...the list goes on. He may fail miserably with his finances at first; but I think after a bit, he will figure it all out. (I know I did.) problem flipped
3. DH's employers just gave him a firm date on when he will no longer have a job. They also told him he can either move to the Detroit area and continue working for them or he may leave. No severance package will be given either way. I have to admit, although losing the health insurance is going to be a pain, I absolutely hate his employers. A company that for many years has chosen profit over employees. Cutting jobs so that the bottom line can look good to share holders and they can get a better cut of the pie. Many years of closing factories stateside and sending jobs to other countries and hiring workers for pennies on the dollar...Ugh. I know DH is crushed by this; because as an IT employee he has worked his *kitten* off for them for so many years. As they transitioned to new countries he has been creating programs to span language and computer imput barriers. The hours spent implementing all of this...Ugh! I think he is in shock from this news. I am not. A little voice in my brain would love to say "I told you so!" But I know that's not helpful. SO...To flip this, I think I need to convince him that he owes them NOTHING. He can stay, do his job; but the after hours of killing himself on projects has to stop. Work his 40 hours and that is it. Use the rest of his time to post resumes and find a new job. Then he can tell his old employers to STICK IT. I just wish I could be there to see THAT!! So...on the flip side of this problem, I get my husband back (I hope I still want him!) problem flipped.
Thanks for letting me rant! Writing it down helped make it all easier to digest, I think.
*I think I may need to go carb free for a couple of days to work off the pasta!
Carol- My heart aches for your son and his friend's family! Unimaginable. To think of the pain some one is in to take their own life. Sending prayers and lots of good thoughts to you all.
Sue- Oh no! HOpe you are feeling better soon!
Rita- Hugs to you! Hope you are also feeling better soon!

Paula from Manitoba! Thanks for the location. I assumed you must be somewhere north with all of that snow as we haven’t been having so much right now in the states. Just wind, wind, wind.
Drkatiebug … Paleo … well I think there are pieces of it that make a lot of sense, but as I recall, the average life expectancy for those in the paleo era was not particularly stellar!
Katla … My husband’s doctor has been pushing some kind of diet or another for years. He frequently asks my husband why he needs to eat meat? And to a meat and potatoes man this is more thant he can take at times. But I do know that my husband is not thrilled with his current health status and if I gently introduce things that are good for him … like kimchi … he will comply. I do think I would like more clarification on the Korean diet though from his doctor. I will share if I hear something interesting.
Charleen … congratulations! Care to post the photo of the quilt again for the new people? I’d like to see it again too!
Pat … sweet pic of the great grandson.
Rita … I’m a firm believer in God’s providence … hang in there!
Carol … so sorry about your son’s friend … and what a horrible impact this will have on the poor girl who witnessed it all …
Sue in Texas … rest quietly and heal quickly ….
Allie … just thinking of you ….
Kelly ... I found the Egyptian Licorice Tea (Rori Yogi Brand). It was on sale and I am looking forward to trying it tonight when my nightly sugar craving kicks in!
We are still without power and still intermittently running the generator. I'm getting very good at it now since DH can't do much with his back. Hoping it will be back on tomorrow though as I plan to travel to Cleveland, OH to see my parents as well as pick up my son from the airport. He will be home for a week of spring break although it won't be much of a break with his dad's surgery and the yard clean-up we have ahead of us!
Thinking of you all today.

CHARLEEN- Your quilt! I forgot to congratulate you on your semi-finalist (soon to be winning) quilt!!! Well, you are a winner to me already, regardless of whether your quilt wins. But it should.4

Sue DH is on a soft diet for at least two more weeks. I have been cooking veggies to the consistency of wet noodles and sometimes even puree them and add to sauces. Today I took beet juice and added a tablespoon to the omelet I made him. Since he is also on low sodium I use more spices. I am adding turmeric and pepper (good for cancer) and what really made the omelet taste delicious was adding rosemary. Again the omelet was golden in color and you could not taste the beet juice. I also use the more expensive free range eggs. The yolks are definitely richer in color. I have to use veggies I can peel because the skins have too much fiber. I am also trying to find a way to have beets in some form daily because of the health benefits to the kidneys. He now only has one.
Beth glad we could share a laugh
Kelly love the attitude.

Kelly! I LOVE the tea! Decided to try some now since this is usually my bewitching hour for carbs in the form of crackers and bread. The licorice tea really does taste sweet! So much so that I went to see if there was sugar in some form in the tea bag! Thank you for recommending it!
Also, Kelly, the reason you are such a wonderful caregiver to the young charges in your life is because you inherently know how to "flip" situations. Your optimism and realism is such a gift to your family, your young people and to us.

Walked on the treadmill for 45 minutes (to use up time before the class) the took the HIIT class for 45 minutes. i'll be very sad not to be able to take that class. But hopefully I can talk Vince into coming down here in July and I can take it again. It gave me lots of good ideas. The plan for tomorrow is to do some yoga and then there is a step class. But the lady said last week that she wouldn't be there, someone else will. I just hope its not the person who does a zumba-like class. That's something I don't like.
Stopped at the store, got dinner ready then went in the pool. Boy, when we get back will I ever be itchy to open ours
Charleen - congrats on being accepted!
katla - is kimchi very salty? Very happy for your hubby
Mike's mom - you're getting it now. You're on a roll. Congrats!
Carey - great choice of colors
It always surprises me that gyms will play any music at all. Not everyone likes the same thing, and most people use an ipod or something like that anyway.
Lenora and everyone else - if you know that you are going to be away from your computer for a while, log just one food, anything, for the day and it will count as you having logged in.
Carol - how very sad for your son.
When I cleaned out the cat's litter box this a.m. I threw out the dip that our friend had made. I know he felt he was doing a good thing -- but honestly I didn't want it. I just didn't tell him that I was going to throw it out, but I did
Margaret - the hard part for me is when I ask God for something and He says "not now" or "no"
Becca - I know you'll take care of your hubby. But be sure to take care of you too
Toni - the day after we got here the SpaceX went up. All in the paper was about the sonic boom it made. Both Vince and I were here at 9 and neither of us heard it. We're right across the river from the space center. You look out our backyard and you can see the VAB
KJ - so sorry for your hubby but I understand how you feel
Beth - I feel a LITTLE meat is in many ways good. There are certain minerals (like heme iron) that are more readily absorbed by the body when taken in the form of meat. Then there's B-12
SueBDew - healing thoughts being sent your way

Carol GA: My heart breaks for your son because his friend killed himself. This has got to be so hard on friends and family.
Becca: I hope your husband's surgery goes well. :flowerforyou:
Sue: I hope things go your way and you feel good soon.
JanetR: I love the Emerson quotation. I am also thankful for our friends here.
Kelly: I hope your husband ends up in a better situation. He deserves better treatment. :grumble:
Michele: I have never tasted kimchi. I don't respond well to spicy foods. The jar says 270 mg sodium per ounce of kimchi. Enjoy your time in Florida. :flowerforyou:
DH went in to the eye doctor for a check up this morning and things are going very well. He can see better than he has in a very long time, even though needs a new glasses prescription. I'm really pleased with his attitude and the improvement to his ability to see.

Am watching last night's episode of the start of the new season of Survivor. They all look so clean!!!!
We ordered our exterior doors today. I also talked to Charlie today about changing our order for the patio doors to ones that have the interior mini blinds in them. I guess he had never seen them and when we went to the home store to order the doors I showed him as example of them. He liked how easy it is to open the blinds and to raise them. Our cat can't bite or break them. I have called the company and left a message but they haven't called me back. Our federal tax return will cover the difference in cost.

It was a very emotional day as word spread quickly around the hospital and community of my leaving my program. Lots of different reactions, my staff are having a hard time and I now have lots to do to transition to the new job but it is very interesting. I will be working on a project that helps families/caregivers of persons with mental health and/or addiction problems be involved in developing their own support services. Step 1 will focus just on getting recognition for these people as caregivers are often left out of treatment plans for their loved ones. This is social work at its best and I am going to love this. I offfically start in June.
Really drained now. Have a great night everyone!

Got a fraud alert on my DH's debit card. This is the second time since Christmas that either of us have had that happen.

Margaret- I guess I missed the post about your DH's surgery but I also only have one kidney. I lost mine about 27 yeRs ago. I was very interested in the soft diet you prepare for him. My DH is trying to cook but I think that will be my job very soon. Good health to your DH.
Kelly - you know how to make lemonad out of lemons.
Katla -glad the eyes are doing well.
Michele - I would love to see a space shot. My sister taught elementary school and took her class to see one.
Thinking about peeling apples and cooking them like Cracker Barrel does them. Hope it works.

Yvonne in Texas. I have yet to make rose water, but I wish to when summer comes! Saw the video on it and it looks fun! I have many gardening friends so l shall try to get roses from them. They say not to use florists roses because many use pesticides.
