Carol - NOT me; I am not even sure how to actually post a picture; I know the icon to use; but, haven't tried it yet.
Joyce – I don’t know what color you thumb is; but, with the windows so low, I would put in a low, spreading (don’t know what it is; but, looks like a bonsai tree, if you got it small and trimmed it up; maybe come down the sides of the sidewalk with some flowers that will tolerate the heat (don’t know what Zone you live in, so can’t suggest any; maybe use that ‘reddish’ colored mulch around all plants and spay out at the street a little bit; maybe a fast growing narrow tree or bush at the ends of the corners of the house; just make sure you plant them far enough from the house that when they grow, you won’t have to cut them back. At the end of our steps, we have a plant on both side, I can’t think of the name but it starts with a “S”. Nice thing about it is that in the early spring it has the prettiest pink, star-shaped flowers and the leave are green. They do not fall off either; and, in the fall, they turn bronze.
Windows look nice. Windows World put our glass in the spaces where the screen used to be; the representative is supposed to call when he is almost finished with a job that he will be working on down here. They have to come from Tifton, GA. I hope they will do what we think needs to be done. I guess we will see when he comes. I live in Zone 8 and we can grow most things. Do NOT plant any Bradford Pears, while they bloom in the spring, the odor they give off is awful. Lot of places will try to sell people that, when they ask for a fast growing tree (that blooms). There are other trees that would do better; another thing about Bradford pears is in a high wind, they will split right down the middle. That is about all I would suggest; maybe a couple of trees in the yard away from the house. Check with the Arbor society; for about $10 they will send you trees to plant that will do well in your area. We’ve gotten dogwood trees, maples, and others which Louis has planted around our yard.
Are the pieces to you quilt that are extra big enough to make pillow, maybe? Or use the pattern in the center of a pillow?
Claudia – I don’t blame your husband for wanting to miss all the crowds on Cinco de Mayo. That would be Louis' outlook on it, too – or go in the mid-afternoon. That is what we normally do. I would not mind Mexican tonight; but, can’t have that many calories today. I am over my allotted amount by 57; so in a little bit I will be walking on the treadmill. Heck, I might go outside and walk since it is so pretty and they are forecasting rain tomorrow. The only thing about doing that is you don’t burn the number of calories even ‘if’ you walk longer.
I’ve tried on slip-on Sketchers and don’t like the feel of them. I have a couple of pair of Sketcher sandals and like them. But, the slip on, slide up and down the heel of my foot, which is pretty narrow and I have a very high instep. I can wear anything from a 6 ½ to a 7 ½; with the latter being what I wear most often. DDnL#2 gave me a pair of really cute sandals, we wear the same size foot; after getting home, I realized that the toe was a lot further out than I normally wear and the first and only time I wore them I felt like I had to ‘high step’ to keep from tripping over them. DMGD said she would probably never wear them; a friend of DDnL#1 said she would try them, I guess they must have fit, I did not get them back. They almost looked like they were 8’s.
I’ve seen some shoes (tennis type) that have velcro closings; but, I don’t wear tennis/walking shoes; because they hit my heel in the wrong place or they are too wide for me.
Kelly – When my oldest niece got to that age of “WHY’s”; my middle sister was taking care of her and no matter what she said, Jennifer would say “Why?” After a morning of this, she got tired of it and the next time she said something and got a “Why?” She said very strongly, “BECAUSE BLUE BIRDS FLY, THAT’S WHY!” She stopped asking “Why?”
Sharon - I’m almost afraid to ask; but, what are ‘breast shields’? Our DMGD has her ‘learner’s license’; but, she has not ‘learned’ to drive; she is now 16 and can’t get her DL because it means a car test with a stranger in the car, no parents. But, if she does not get her license by August, she will be 18 before she can; if not then, will have to wait until she is 21. Her parents are ‘not’ happy. I could solve that issue in a heartbeat; by taking away her electronics and drag her kicking a screaming in the car and make her drive down the 450+ miles of dirt road in the county. I could not WAIT until I was 16 and could drive a car. Daddy bought us old cars. Mine was a 1960 Baby Blue Ford Fairlane. It had a heater and a working radio, no seat belts and bench seats. I could and would pile in as many people as I could, even if they had to sit in someone’s lap. Of course, I guess that would now be considered ‘distracted driving’.
Lanette – I saw that same picture on FB. Weird looking; but, I could guess it could be earth. I think everybody ought to learn how to drive a ‘stick-shift’ although you don’t seem too many of them now-a-days; if you were the only one someplace, only had a stick-shift car, and someone needed help … you’d be happy to know how to do so. I learned 3 on the column from a boyfriend; and, 4-in-the-floor from another HS classmate. The first one was a 56 Ford; and, was like driving a tank; the other was a newer Jeep and we’d ride up and down the hills beside I-75 when they were building it. It was fairly hilly where I grew up in Forsyth, GA.
We still get calls from the same number that I reported; I guess they have more; but, if there is a call from out-of-the-area and I don’t recognize it, I answer, “Fire Department, where is your emergency?” That cause a slowing down of them. Someone said yesterday they answer, “Taco Bell, what’s your order?” I might change mine up. When we lived in Albany ‘one of the Pizza places had a number very close to ours, maybe 1 number off; I took pizza orders and told them we were having a “buy one large, get a medium free, get their address and told them we’d be there within 20 minutes, maybe 25 depending on traffic. If we weren’t there on time, to call back and we’d give them a special.” I think they ended up changing their number. Louis and the boys would just die laughing. When we get calls that the person asks, “Who is this?” I will either answer “Who DAT?” or “Who are you calling?” Never tell them my number and I don’t answer “Yes” to any question of ‘can you hear me’? It is a scam! Never have given out any personal information. Lady at Belk’s today asked a woman the last 4 digits of her card or SSN; she started rattling off her SSN and she stopped her immediately. Told her that only the last 4 digits was all she needed. Also said not to put the entire credit card number on the check; because way too many people see that check from the time it hits the store until it gets back to your checking account. I don’t do this and don’t give out my SSN. One day I got a call from someone saying they were from the billing office at the hospital and started asking questions. I said, ‘if you are actually from the hospital’s billing office, you would have all that information’. As soon as I hung up I called the office and told them I wanted to speak to a supervisor and told him what had happened. Apparently, I was not the only one that had complained about it, because he told me ‘that he knew where it was coming from’ and walked off.
Beggar lice are triangular shaped little seeds that sort of have a low pile Velcro coating that you get from getting into tall weeds. They won’t hurt anything other than stick to whatever you put them on. I usually have a piece of typing paper when I am combing Cracker. While you are at it you should also check for ticks; or check a couple of hours later. You can pull them (beggar lice) off; or better yet, comb through the hair with a tight bristled brush. At least that is what we do on Cracker.
TNToni – I remember when “Lithium” had been working for me, for 20 years; and, without doing anything different I became “Lithium Toxic” and almost die from it. But "Lithium" is now considered something I am 'allergic' to, so that nobody will try to ever put me on it again. They say, ‘if it ain’t broke; don’t fix it’ … but sometimes you do have to change medications ‘if’ they change another one or put you on one or take you off one. So far, my insurance has paid for most medications. IF they are ‘expensive’ I will get them through my mail order. I hopped all over my GYN for the asthma medication he Rx’d for me. 120 puffs … for over $60
Kelly – YUMMY! A hot pretzel, fresh out of the oven with MUSTARD! What’s your address? I will be right over!
If you stitch quilts by hand; you better have something protecting your hands; I would be pricking myself every 7 or 8 stitches. I’ve seen women sitting around a quilt frame and make tiny little stitches all over it. Talking and carrying on and never missing a stitch!
Heather – That should be an interesting conversation …
Becca – Either a jewel or some braided rope! Did he have bandages on his hand(s), too?
I think you have to be creative when writing out a resume; some things can’t be asked, and therefore there are ‘some’ things that should not be added. Easy to cull through them, for the good and bad. It’s the ones that are ‘questionable’ that you wonder about. Like you said, a face-to-face interview is best for anyone. My DOGD sells Arbonne, she really believes in the product. Today, I tried the protein shake; she suggested adding a banana and ice. It wasn’t bad; but, she said the vanilla was her favorite. I bought some frozen fruit to go in it. I don’t know if the added ice chipped up in it was what made me feel gritty; but, I am not use to that texture from the protein bars I get. But, I have thought about adding fruit to them. I can’t use Avon products for the same reason.
You’ll get there (goal); but, don’t count on a size 2 – we’d never see you again.
Dana – We haven’t decided what to do on our porch when we get it almost finished. I had thought about painting the floor; but, not sure we’d be very successful at covering the cracks between the plywood over the wooden decking.

Today we did this routine 5 times.
Walk or run 1/2 mile on treadmill or elliptical; do 1 mile if using bike.
13 dead lifts as heavy as you can. Try for 1/4 body weight. I did two 20 lb dumbbells.
23 back squats using smith machine. Try for 1/4 to 1/2 body weight. I did 55 lbs (20 on each side, bar weighs 15).
It was a most excellent workout and took 1 hour and 15 minutes.
On the topic of job hunting, I have only been rejected for a job once, although I have applied places and not gotten interviews. I have been recruited several times and offered jobs I wasn't even looking for. I have turned down 4 jobs in the last two months, none of which I applied for. I am very fortunate to have chosen a field where jobs are in high demand (mathematics teacher).
Welcome to all the newbies.7 -
Lenora, thanks for the suggestions. I hate Bradford pear. I know so many people love them because of their uniform shape. A neighbor across the street has one and half is dead and half is alive. They hate to cut it down because it isn't dead. And you are right, they split so quickly in the wind. And we can get some high winds herein southern Indiana.
My Dad's Mom did a lot of quilts. after Grandpa died, she had a small apartment and had her quilting station set in the window. One Sunday morning, she didn't go down and meet the car to take her to church. Her ride knew how unusual that was so she had the super check her apartment. There Grandma was, sitting at her quilting table, dead. But she died doing what she loved so much and was her mission. When they cleaned out her apartment, there were boxes and boxes of quilt squares. Mom got all those boxes and for years enjoyed making quilts for so many people, made by her MIL and finished by her.
My oldest daughter Christina is the kind of person who could find any job. And she has gradually increased her skill levels with each one, adding what she learned form the previous onto the next. Her major and minor was music and psychology so the latter has helped her a lot and the music part has just generally kept her a very happy person. Right now she is a personal assistant to a lawyer who invests and consults in many businesses. In property management which she no knowledge of, she learned and excelled in bookeeping, learning Spanish on the fly, management skills, city codes and laws. She is adding so much more to that.
Temps today only in low 50s so windows are not open.

Lanette Love the photo of the Earth. So beautiful! Funny you should mention red poppies...for some reason I have been thinking about red poppies today. I love poppies.
Cheri Those are great choices for your reward for the 20lb weight loss!
Becca Poor hubby. At least he has a sense of humor...
Carol Now why would you want to make that adorable picture of your Pom with his new summer haircut smaller? I feel as if I could just hug that teddy bear right through that photo!
Oh Joyce! I love that story about your paternal grandmother's quilting squares and your mom finishing the quilts...it reminds me of some wooden carvings of water birds my mom was finishing/painting and left unifinished. My friend and I found them when we were cleaning out her house after she died. My friend asked if she could have them and later sent them to me, finished, and signed with both of their names...my heart still bursts when I look at them...
This is tough to read about, sad story about an animal, so just skip it if you need to:Yesterday I had dropped off my partner at the airport and was driving home. A very young momma duck with 6-7 tiny tiny ducklings was trying to cross the interstate. I pulled wide to avoid them but the car in the left lane either hit the mother duck or the draft from his car blew her over. I don't know what happened after that. I cried all the way home and can't get it out of my mind. It is eating away at me. So cruel. Gut wrenching.
On a lighter note, here is something my granddaughter made in school. Her mom just happened to notice it and took a picture of it for me...the funny thing is, she chose my partner's eye color, but my pink rosacea cheeks. Sort of a hybrid of the two of us. My partner does a lot of the fun stuff with her (the fishing, for example, and baking).
Thank you all for being here.

Hello ladies: Women's meeting at church today. We had a potluck which turned out to be all salads and one lady brought a pie which was cut into small pieces. It was very nice. I had small portions of several salads and a piece of pie, water to drink. I was going to work in the yard but it is hot and extremely humid outside so I didn't last for long.
Cheri - Nice rewards!
Carol - Love the pom. He does look like a stuffed animal.
Katiebug - Sounds like an awesome workout.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA

Cheri- LOL! I saw your two pictures and my first thought, before reading the post, was "Wow! Cheri must be a hardcore seamstress! She wears work out gloves to sew!" You go girl! Nice reward!
Ha,ha! I do wear gardening gloves (ones with a rubber side), clean ones, to help push the quilt around under the needle when quilting!

Cheri, love the stand where you have your rulers. I always thought the wall between my sewing table was supposed to hold those things! I gave all my quilting things away to my sister's daughter when she started it up. She hand sews everything in her quilts since she doesn't have a quilt. She is trying to make quilts for all the kids in the family but she is starting with the newest ones being born. My teenage grandaughter hasn't got one yet, I doubt she knows she will be getting one. I made her one when she got her 'big girl' bed. I guess I need some how to tell her since her Mom would love to have that quilt. She made her Mom some quilted coasters for her coffee table but that is the only quilt she has made for her.
Karen, read your hidden spoiler. Such a shame people do that. Wonder what they would think if that was their animal.

Hi Barbie! I found your group tonight and would like to share. I'm committing to 3 times per week at the gym an walking my dog 3- 4 nights a week. I'm currently on Weight Watchers, but I'd like to change over to MFP and drop WW. I'm tired of the Smart Points system.4

Welcome, jag from another bug and WW convert. I love that MFP is free. You've found a great support group here.3

Well ladies we are home, and husband just has a small top of the head bandage. They shaved is little scalp "island" of hair, or they offered to wrap his head again. Husband said shave away!
Drove home, and I am bone tired. Came home at 3pm, dropped off husband, picked up laundry and headed to the laundromat. At 4:30pm I was home making beds, then filling husbands medicines. After I post this, its off to my next door neighbor and organize her pills. I am still trying to readjust my blood supply!! Haha!
Take care my ladies!

Barbie: We are having a glorious sunshiney day. It is the first really nice day in ages. The forecast for tomorrow is rain. :ohwell:.
Becca: I'm glad your trip into Portland was smooth and easy. I hope things went very well for your DH. Our trip to the eye doctor today was for me. I have to buy new glasses & insurance doesn't pay for them. :grumble: :flowerforyou:
Dana in AR: My prayers go out for the community of Pochahontis. :flowerforyou:
TNToni: Sending good thoughts your way.
Becca: YOur DH looks very good in a turban. I hope you get good news from the doctor.
Peach: I love the big picture of your Pom. What a charmer!
Jagbug: Welcome to a great group!
I had a busy day today and am a little bit pink from the sun. It reached 80 F today and was a glorious sunshiney day! The forecast says the same for tomorrow, but cloudy. It has been a while since the last sunny day and I've appreciated every moment of it today. I power-washed the upper deck, which is very small, and it took hours. The lower deck is much larger will need to wait for another occasion. I'm not sure whether I could take it on tomorrow even if the weather is good. I've got sore muscles nearly everywhere.

Karen in Virginia - On an interstate in the left-hand lane; they probably did not see them. It'd be horrible to know something happened and 'yes'; if it were my pet I would be upset. Even 'if' they saw them might have been going too fast to stop (on an interstate) which could prove deadly for all involved. Sad as it is; it is sort of like a 'deer', the worst thing you can do is to 'swerve' to keep from hitting them. Airbags and a softer hit vs. an immoveable object, such as a tree. That is one thing my DH and sons have drilled into my head so much that I think that maybe I would remember it. Deer will continue running and leaping and you might be dead or wish you were. My hairdresser's wife swerved to try to keep from hitting a deer one evening while following him home and deer ran out in front of her - she swerved (which is a normal reaction); hit a culvert, flipped over several time, crossed the other lane of traffic, hit another culvert, flipped over on the top and skidded several 100 feet into a oak tree. She lived; but, was just a 'shell' of the person who had been his life for close to 50 years. I felt so sorry for him, they only had each other. He passed away a couple of months ago, waiting for a lung transfer up at Emory in Atlanta. She is still in the nursing home down here. So a Guardian ad Litem will have to be appointed for her. I've hit a pet before, never saw him running between 2 cars; thankful it was not a child. Was not going over the speed limit. The people harassed me about paying several $1000s; and, when they made the mistake of calling me at work; they ended up talking to the attorneys from the company I worked for. In Georgia, for a large part of the Interstate system, there is a concrete barrier less than 10' from the left-hand lane of traffic - fast lane, passing lane. Sorry; but, that is my take on it. Gut-wrenching, yes; but, cruel? - it wasn't done 'on purpose'. It was probably just as gut-wrenching to them.
We've seen deer that have been 'hit' on the interstate; but, not killed. Call the State Patrol or 911 and it will be transferred to the nearest law official's department or Sheriff so they can come put it out of its misery and get it off the interstate so that it won't attract buzzards. Now, that is something that is a real danger. They don't move out of your way. Even on a country road, as soon as I 'see' them, I will blare my horn. Sometimes they only hop off a few feet from your car. Nasty, don't want to hit one. They will take the deer to a taxidermist to have the meat processed and donated to soup kitchens in the area.

Have read about half of the Handmaid's Tale and I am really enjoying it. I won't see the movie, but will probably watch the TV show.
I live in Northern Manitoba, Canada. Most of these people do not chew tobacco, but they do spit a lot, even the women. I think it is disgusting.
Hugs to Everyone.
Paula Y.1 -
Paula - Your spitting comments remind me of the old days in the Paris metro. The notice in the trains used to amuse me no end.
"DEFENSE DE CRACHER" Forbidden to spit. I think my grandfather used to spit occasionally in the street (born 1892) , but I haven't seen it in ages.
I will get DH to ring up the Hove estate agent today. He's much better at those conversations. I'm pretty sure they will say we have come to the end of the line with the house. It's been over six months that they've been holding on for us.
Will take him up a cup of tea in a moment. He had a freezing cold day/evening at the cricket and came home early when it started to drizzle. Poor lamb. Hampshire lost.

Leigh - Great NSV. Isn't it wonderful to run up the stairs without effort?
NYKaren - I think each job we have teaches us something.
Allie - Make sure you tell the attorney everything. Positive thoughts and prayers winging your way.
KJ - I have always eaten my eggs basted as well. I'm not sure why.
Karen in Virginia - Thank you for the Lily of the Valley photo.
Cheri - You picked some great rewards.
Carol - I work as an assistant manager in a Toy store.
Your Pom is very cute.
Toni - You are a strong woman, sticking to your goals while waiting for that shoe to drop.
Lenora - The "breast shields" are exactly that to be used with breast pumps. It's against Health Canada regulations to take anything like that back. Besides - YUCK! who wants to buy those if the package has been opened?
I remember the days of seeing how many we could pack in my friend's VW. Yup, I think that would be considered distracted driving. Lol
Went to see the psychologist today. He tells me to listen to my body as it is trying to tell me what to do. I know I need to get out before I give myself a stroke or heart attack. Now, the question is how to exit and which can be accomplished the easiest. The quest for a doctor because of mine taking a medical leave is getting exhausting and frustrating. The sister clinic which has a doctor taking patients won't allow me to go with her as my doctor will be back at some point in time (maybe). I have been a patient at my clinic since 1997 and I know that going forward I need a primary care doctor (they say there is no one to cover her patients). It was a long and heated discussion with the clinic manager. My daughter is going with me tomorrow and we are demanding that they come up with a plan for me. I don't care if there are "thousands of patients that find themselves in this situation" Really, is that comment useful in any way to me? I still do not know the results of my Xrays because so far there is no one to deliver the results. GRRR and Ugh and a bunch of bad words.
I picked up my little sweetie and took her to dance. She was very talkative on the way home. The daughters were in pre-school except Elsa who was in Kindergarten because she can make her own lunch. Harmony's "babies" live a rich and varied life. Tonight she was going to take Pumpkin out to see the sun set. She kindly explained that was when it wasn't daytime anymore but you could still see part of the sun and "it's absolutely bootiful" Also sometimes her kids need a pacifier so "they can calm themselves the heck down". Grandma learns a lot every time we have these conversations.
Larry took care of supper. By that I mean he took me out for late pizza. We will eat something healthier tomorrow.
Feeling exhausted, frustrated and a little bitter.

Hello, my Dears..
I am so late to the party, this month! I had only one goal in April - and I can't say that I was stunningly successful at it...
Leave a minimum of 500 calories a day (average) on the table.
I had many days when I couldn't quite make 500 - but, I did enough to FINALLY make it to ONDERLAND.
Hallelujah! So, in April, I lost 6 pounds, 1 inch of my waist and 1 inch off my belly/hip area. You know, it seems like the losses are SOOO slow - that nothing is happening - and then I look at my stats for the month - and oh, gee, it was six pounds - more than a pound a week - which is all I am scheduled to do. *sigh* Our brains are crazy things, aren't they?
Also, I have met the very first, not quite ambitious enough, goal that I set when I first logged into MFP AND I weigh less than I did after my first year of college - ending in Spring of 1984. 33 years - It's like time travel.
Now, on to 183 - half my highest weight.
I am going to not set any major goals in May - this is the month that I take my vacation to see my folks in Tucson, and with road food and such, I can't imagine managing to behave very well. I will be THRILLED if I have the same result this year that I had last... I lost 4 lbs. while I was there. But, not going to hold my breath on that, either.
I am just going to go, and do what I did last time - which is swim in the pool, cook a few meals and hit the gym every day for a full hour. So long as I don't GAIN - I am fine with that.
But, Ladies, I must go to sleep, now... PT in the morning.
Hugs for Everybody!!
Re in TX9 -
re onederland (insert dancing line of emojis here). That is terrific! If I remember the last time you went to your folks you did great with all the swimming--you've got this!!
I am trying to pack food for my road trip so I don't eat my trigger foods. So my cooler will have great foods that help with that--protein like eggs and nuts, bananas which always suppresses
My wanting to eat. I'm even gonna use a thermos for coffe so I won't have to go near the food stalls, just gonna stretch my legs. My 6-hour drive is Friday after work so I've go time to make a plan!!
Strategy is stronger than will power and not punishing my body when I'm stressed or sad is a better choice that I'm learning to make. Sometimes I need to remind myself of this over and over again when tested!

Been to Doc this morning I have to be referred for further investigation as I have gall stones stuck in bile duct. Think it means camera down the throat uggh I can't even hold a pin in my mouth (when sewing) without balking
Second day back at the gym hooray
