The road to good health, fitness, and longevity is a journey, not a destination. Because it's a long journey, I don't want to go alone. Please join me so we can call encouragement to each other and be supportive along the way.
If you made goals or resolutions for April, how did you do?

April Resolutions (with end of the month comments)
* plank three times a week (too hard on my back, I'll try again in July)
*meditate daily (yes, but not as long as I would like)
*log food and exercise daily (I think I missed one day)
*putter in the yard twice a week (yes)
May Resolutions:
*putter in the yard twice a week
*meditate daily
*learn the dances for the county fair performance
*keep doing all the things that have been working
The reason most people fail instead of succeed is that they trade what they want the MOST for what they want at the MOMENT.

Hi Barbiecat
My goals and resolutions for May include twice weekly strength training. I have booked a personal trainer for 10 weeks once per week and intend to repeat the program she gives me on another day in the week. I have made the booking for 4.30 pm on Friday afternoons because this is usually a trigger time for me to forget all about healthy eating, drinking and exercise. I am two weeks in and so far, so good, although having just re-started on many of these exercises, I am suffering from muscle soreness!!!
Weight wise, my long term goal is to lose 10 kilograms and I have stuck on the same weight now for 3 months. My metabolism seems to be soo slow, but to be honest, I also find it difficult to stick to the plan consistently. So another goal is to stick to the eating plan consistently. May is a hard month because it is Mothers Day in Australia and also my birthday, so celebrations will be in order. So guess yet another goal is to enjoy these occasions without letting them sabotage the whole plan.
Looking forward to hearing about the goals of others.
Cheers
Margie11 -
Margie, How fortunate you are to be able to make use of a personal trainer. I have read so much about the benefits of weight training. I hope you see the results you seek. When I started this journey, one of my first tasks was to develop a plan for holidays and food related events. The same plan won't work for everyone, but once I had a plan, it was easier for me to be at an event where eating seemed to be everywhere.

Did 45 minutes of Cindy Witmarsh Ultra Fat Burn Workout DVD. I'm trying varying the time (I usually exercise for an hour) and the intensity. I didn't use as heavy a weight as I normally would. The plan for tomorrow is to do one segment of 10 Minute Solution Quick Tummy Toner DVD, hold my plank, then take the extremepump class. After exercising, I need to stop and get Loki's med.
Put Wet & Forget on this area by the garbage cans that had mold. I was very surprised that only a few hours later it was gone. Cleaned the water line in the spa (this happens over the winter) and made the supreme sacrifice of getting into the spa to clean it. Then cleaned the wall between the spa and the pool.
Nancy in AZ - what a lovely family you have! Thanks for sharing with us
Lenora - boy, are we ever glad you weren't named Autamia. What a different name!
pip - you and your friend look so nice together
Leigh - congrats on reaching the 50 lb loss and your great NSV
Jill - welcome
Re - glad you ate your veggies. Vince says that he sometime think I'm going vegetarian. Not that I am, I just like my veggies (and fruit)
Heather - what is AF? I'm sure I know, it just didn't immediately come to me.
I really wish Vince would get to changing this cabinet out on the porch. We got a new one at the Salvation Army since we don't need such a large one (since Charter went digital he can't watch NASCAR on the porch). Yesterday he wanted to do it in the daylight. I'll help him but I really want to go out in the sun so I'm waiting for him. I want to get it done today because garbage goes out tomorrow and we may be able to put it out.
Karen in VA - yup, the litter box cake is gross looking. I made one for Denise for her birthday last year. Since it's pretty big, I told her to take it to her school. She wanted to buy one of those cookie cakes at WalMart. I thought that middle schoolers would find a gross cake cool. But I knew in the end that she'd do what she wanted. I mentioned the scat mat to Vince. Now he said "how do we keep the bugs out of the house"? Really????? Get a piece of screen, since it isn't permanent we can probably use thumb tacks to put it up. How difficult can that be? I'm not sure why he's procrastinating so.
Yesterday I tripped on the step going into the house. My toe is hurting a bit. It was much worse yesterday. I couldn't do a proper burpee today but I'm getting there. Hopefully, I can do a proper lunge tomorrow. And if not, I'll just modify
LZ - you joined by posting! We're happy to have ya, too
Mary - welcome to a great group
Denise called today asking Jess if she wanted to go bridesmaid dress shopping tomorrow. Jess told her that she (Jess) really didn't have the gas money. I offered to go up to VA then we can go to PA, use my car so she wouldn't have to worry about the gas. My bet is that she won't go. Then she told Denise that she had to see about an experiment that they were doing. My bet is that she doesn't go. Which is fine by me. Then Denise said that she and Pete were going to stop at the reception place to give them more money. I truly think that his mother is paying for this reception. If they had this much money, they wouldn't be still living in that small apartment. His mother is very materialistic and wants things her way. This is her way of getting it her way. We purposely gave Denise the money so that she could have her wedding HER way, but now I'm betting it's going to be Pete's mother's way. She said she found a dress that would be perfect for her shower. To my knowledge nothing has been done about it. It wouldn't surprise me if Pete's mother is going to pay for it, too.
dana - natch you use a new box and scoop on the litter box cake. Personally I think the "turds" are neat. Wish I could think of a way to make it look like the cat peed in the box, but whatever I put in there soaks into the cake.
Well, Vince FINALLY decided to go one the porch and change out the cabinets. Why did it take him so long????
Say, does anyone know of a way to get rid of carpenter bees. Also, we have wasps that burrow in the cracks of one of the retaining walls (the one closest to the pool) Vince read that spraying peppermint oil keeps them away, but we don't know for how long. He did spray some today.
Becca - how do you make your sweet potato fries? I'm sure they're not deep fried. I don't seem to ever be able to get mine crispy enough
Karen in VA - I think I'm in love. What beautiful eyes and that mouth. Those cheeks just scream "squeeze me". Give her lots and lots of kisses and hugs from me.
Welcome everyone new!

i can't remember what was going on in my life yesterday but I don't think I posted at all, or read for that matter. So I had like 7 pages to read. No way I could remember what was written. All I can remember is that we have several new members! Way to go. Nancy had the largest 'get to know me' post I think I have read here. What a nice picture and family. Let's see. I think it was NYKaren that had the most beautiful tree I have ever seen. Well I think Dana had a gorgeous tree also. More Olivia and Jaqueem. those two might get married!!!!!!
Barnie, we have a young 4th grader that has been in the news. She organized a dance at ehr school for Chemo Buddies and raised almost $5000. I just love how people do that. The caps are so pretty. When my sis had her chemo, she went bald if she was at home or with family. She bought a real nice beautiful wig before she started her chemo and her beautician shaved her head and put the wig on before she started it. Then she started trimming the wig and ruined it. But it served her for the time she needed it.
I have really felt like a failure today. It started out by me getting up with the alarm, trotting across the hall to the bathroom, going back to my bedroom, and going back to sleep. Woke up at noon. Then I ate leftover hamburger helper and carrots for lunch. Carrots were fine but the hamburger helper was full of pasta. Then I started eating cheerios. They are the thorn in my side. Then Charlie went to the stor to get the things I didn't get yesterday because 'I went to the wrong Walmart'. When he goes by himself he gets ice cream. So what do I do after I ate a nice grilled chicken salad? A big, well not as big as his, bowl of ice cream. So everything has gone wrong. Except tonight. I am sitting here with the window and patio door open enjoying the most wonderful spring breeze. This is what I spent $7000 for!!!! This breeze is awesome. $7000 awesomeness.
tomorrow the other two windows come if the weather permits. We were predicted to have terrible storms tonight and we don't so I don't think our local weather man knows how the Big Guy does it.

Happy May (a bit early ) everyone!
Barbie, I love your goal to putter in the garden! I do that daily and there's almost always something to do. Tonight I found little yellow puffballs (the flowers) had burst out on my tiny (about 40" high) new Leatherleaf Acacia tree! The tree has little silver discs for leaves. It screamed, "Take me home" when I was at the nursery a couple months ago.
I have not even been back at the plan for a week yet, so I will say April is done.
May goals:
Make more concrete meal plans that I keep on hand and are a few simple choices. For example, 3 breakfast choices. I have a favorite dessert choice( one date and 4 pecan halves) but need a few more. I think that will help so much, since part of what made Medifast meals make weight loss easier was there were only a few choices.
Walk 6 days per week. If I am really tired, goal is 10 minutes, but I usually end up 20-30 those days, anyway.
Stretches every night.
Vitamins daily.
Quiet time in nature every morning.
Consistent bedtime (within half an hour).
Creative time daily.
The last one is hard for me to keep, because it feels like a privilege, when it should be an essential.
Love seeing all your pictures!

Good evening!
I'm looking forward to May and working towards my goals. I was just telling my DH that in early March after having steroid injections in my back, I was using a walker and fell twice at the back door. Now, I'm using the exercise peddler and walking! (We walked around the antique mall today)
In April I lost 4 lbs. and exercised more.
I'm making wiser choices in food and eating more fresh fruit and vegetables. When eating out, I don't go crazy and order whatever I want! That is a huge feat for me, since I was so accustomed to eating Mexican and BBQ!!
I also decided to quit drinking beer. It's added carbs and calories! I love the taste of an ice cold beer so once a month for a special occasion will work!!
So, for May I will continue what I'm doing and I plan to lose 5-6 lbs.
I belong to the free YMCA Silver Sneakers Program so I plan to utilize it!! They have a full gym, indoor pool, yoga yurt, and various classes. I have felt so fat that I didn't want to go, but now I'm feeling a whole lot better!
Get outside and putter around the yard.
I'll be in Cheyenne visiting my DD#1 and I plan to go grocery shopping for special stuff before arriving at their house.
April - lost 4 lbs and started walking and bought exercise peddler.
May - lose 5-6 lbs and go to the Y for more exercise. Get outside and putter around the yard.
I think these are reasonable goals!
((Hugs))

For my sweet potato fries, they were more rounds than fries. I just put the oven on 380' cut them pretty thin, drizzled our thick pizza pan with vegetable oil, then put in pan, drizzled more vegetable oil on, and baked them. I have a small plastic bottle and I poked some holes (with a corn on the cob holder), on the plastic lid. Then I fashioned a folded paper towel around the veg oil bottle with a rubber band because it catches any drips! DIY queen that's me! So I checked on the rounds every couple minutes, until light brown. Then I sprinkled with a bit of cinnamon and sugar!

Happy May Day!!! When I was a little girl, I used to make a basket, pick some flowers and put it on my neighbors front door knobs. Usually I made the baskets from paper plates folded, with a ribbon.
Flowers to my favorite ladies!!

Hi Gals,
So I made no April goals, I was not liking missing all of them, and am not sure about May, I am feeling like a mouse on a wheel, like have not been able to get anywhere, I am working really hard – easy 26-38 hours a week of gardening and I get home physically exhausted. So I am not making the best decisions about how to spend time when I get home – there are about 15-20 hours a week of embroidery to do sometimes more sometimes less – and the result of puttering around on the computer or house is I don’t put my nose to the grindstone on the embroidery and end up working every day of the week. Sometimes as I have been lazy in the afternoon, I end up working on the embroidery into the evening and then getting 5-6 hours of sleep (I am someone who needs and can easily get 8 if there is no alarm dragging my bum out of bed) … so I think May is my month for being honest with myself about time management… and I’ll report my thought processes as I go along with hopes for a plan by June 1
Barbie – thanks!

April has not been my best month. I have missed too many yoga classes becasue of medical appointments for DH and over eaten a bit too often. :flowerforyou:The good news is that his eyes are fixed and he can now take himself to his own medical appointments when they are simply routine.
April 2017 Resolutions:
1. Log every bite and swallow; Done, but I chose poorly some days and ate a little more than the ideal amounts. My weight is up a couple of pounds.
2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week. Work on strength and stamina. Not as consistent as I would like. Too many yoga classes were missed due to medical appointments. I feel the difference.
3. Have fun every day. Made it most days. This certainly keeps me in a better frame of mind.
4. Drink at least 3 glasses of water a day. Usually quite a few more.
5. Monitor sleep. Average 7 or more hours of sleep nightly. The sleep goal is a big help for me and I meet it consistently.
May 2017 Resolutions: (These will look familiar. They work for me.)
1. Log every bite and swallow;
2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week. Work on strength and stamina.
3. Have fun every day.
4. Drink at least 3 glasses of water a day.
5. Monitor sleep. Average 7 or more hours of sleep nightly.

Hi everyone!
Nice to be back in May! Thanks Barbie
Today is a Bank Holiday in the UK. (Public holiday)
Have we seen Dr Katie around recently?
Arm slightly better, but still a bother. If it is a tiny crack I'm hoping it heals by itself. The bruising on the upper arm is quite pretty, but makes an unsightly bulge. It's my lymphodema arm, so swells up easily. I'm struggling to keep my calorie burn up without the rower, but have managed it so far. I hope to wash my hair today for the first time since the accident. Been using dry shampoo.
Ordered a Minecraft T shirt for Max yesterday. I'm hosting his 6th birthday family party later this month. I also ordered finger sandwiches and wraps for on the day. With the family arriving in the morning I won't have time or inclination to be making stuff.
Hate getting flustered. I am making a big chocolate Pokemon cake, but that will be done the day before. The actual cake is in the freezer and the decorations have arrived.
I emailed DDIL about a couple of science books, but he has already got them. I hate buying toys, so will have to look for more books.
It's also my brother's 65th and I am cooking him a special meal for a present. I can't get any sense out of them about when they want to come. I think they have a zillion different celebrations to fit in. He has 6 children and 11 grandchildren. Plus all the in-laws. I only plan to feed him and his wife!!!!!! It would be nice if they could stay over.
It was at his 60th birthday party (delayed to June) that I finally made the decision to lose weight. So nearly my 5 year anniversary. I couldn't stand the way I looked/felt at the party and refused to go in fancy dress. I was miserable all evening. So my brother's birthdays have a big role in my psyche.
Michele - AF is alcohol free. I am having more AF days and they are no problem, but last week was full of alcohol. (Vacations) I am going to monitor the days I drink alcohol more carefully and track my units for the week/month this month. That is my resolution for the month. Plus lose a pound. Today is AF.
I think I will adopt a chart system for the units. Put it up on the fridge. Be accountable.

Morning, all, and thank you, Barbie, for keeping us moving forward each month.
April goal - lose five pounds. I gained two pounds, instead.
May goal - lose that pound, plus one more. Just going back to my determination to "be lighter."
Coughing kept me awake most of the night, until I finally just moved over to the recliner, which did the trick. I would have been restless anyway, so not too awfully worried about missing out on a little sleep. First night jitters and all... . Will be glad when this lingering cold finally moves on.
Excited to finally begin this next step on my journey--and even more excited to have our Air Force son coming home for a week next Saturday. Love that boy, been worried about him, and ready to hug his neck. It's been far too long.
Love y'all,

I dont want them stuck in the house for to long without getting out to do there business.. well gonna hop in the shower. and get my day going5 -
Heather happy 5 year anniversary on this successful journey of taking care of yourself. I am approaching year 2 and of course there are ups and downs but it feels great to feel great most of the time doesn't it?
I will have to take some time to post May goals and reflect on April, will post later.

last months commitments
Keep up low sugar, so far so good
log all food, yes
keep working on uncluttering house, very slowly
continue cooking, yes
reduce carbs below 150g per day did for a while
increase veggies to 450g per day, yes
get confident on the heels. work in progress
had my appointment with the dietician today, we
agreed I would try low glycemic index, cause low
carb doesn't seem to be working as far as the skin infections
are concerned.
so new commitment is to work on low gi diet.
won't worry about amount of carbs as long as low sugar and low gi.
had a private dance lesson today, I'm off work for a week and I
decided to take advantage of the available time, learnt a lot about
why I am having trouble with following, so I have a lot to work
on.
Lost just over 10 pounds in April, I'm now down to 201.5 pounds so should be below 200 before next month.7 -
Happy May Day to everyone!
April was another good month for me. I hit my 50 pound loss mark and I went for my first 45 minute hike in years. I am feeling really good about things. Still having pain in one leg, but made an appointment with a doctor to get a prescription for an osteopath. It really is ridiculous that you have to spend extra money in order to get to see the doctor you need to see, but that is the way it is!
May will be somewhat of a tough month. My DH and I are joining a group of friends coming from the USA for four days of their trip in the south of France. As you might imagine, wine tasting and gourmet meals figure heavily in the itinerary they sent us. So, my goal for the month is to stick to my calorie count as closely as possible and try not to gain too much. I know I can handle one special meal in a month, but am not certain how three or four are going to work. I have been losing at a rate of eight pounds per month, so will shoot for six in May.
Dana: Congratulations on your weight loss!
Heather: Congratulations on your fifth year your journey to being healthy!
Joyce: The good thing about bad days is that they are soon past. I wish you a better day today and a lovely week ahead!
- Leigh in France6 -
Hooray! I have printed off a calendar for May, which I will stick to the fridge. For now I will pencil stuff in, but I have ordered lots of stickers and gold stars to keep track of my alcohol consumption. I want to be in control of it and not it in control of me.
First gold star will be today!

Tell us about any goals or resolutions you've made for May.
April went very well.
http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10549261/april-highlights#latest
In May, my plan is to focus on strength and speed.
To that end, I went to my first spinning class in ages tonight, and it went well. Then I got on the rowing machine for a while. I could be a little bit sore tomorrow, but that's OK.
Oh yes, I also worked in the morning, then walked to the university at lunch and attended classes all afternoon.7 -
hey peeps and welcome new ones, peeps that is5
-
Oh, Heather! Thank you for missing me.
I'm here reading every day, have just been feeling a little unsuccessful and down so nothing much to say. I'm still working out for an hour every week day, but not getting my 10,000 steps, logging but going over on calories. It's a new month and a chance for a fresh start. I got up all gung ho to to get back on track, went to make my lemon water but both lemons were moldy. I hope that's not an omen for how the month is going to go.
I will set goals in my journal in a bit.6 -
Happy May Day!
Last month's accomplishments:
1. Joined Mary's Keto Challenge
2. Renewed my commitment to Jazzercise 4 days a week
3. Renewed my commitment to logging my food
4. Got my garden started
This month's goals:
1. Continue Keto Challenge
2. Keep calories around 1300-1400/day
3. Keep going to Jazzercise regularly
4. Improve sleep hygiene
Thanks for all the Olivia comments. We think she is phenomenal. Some of you may remember that very first picture that I posted the second week of February with a spoiler alert in case some of you didn't want to look at such a desperately sick baby...she has come a long way, hasn't she?

Yay! Excited to join this group!
My goal in April was to branch out and try something new...Tai Chi...and I did! Went every Saturday...it's slow, but I feel good afterwards.
For May, I have several:- Participate as much as I can in my daughters' activities
- Be present more
- Continue to focus on good health and drink less!
That's it...and that's enough! I'm a busy married mom...work ft, with two athletic teenage daughters and a big, lovable black lab.

Hello all! Happy Monday and Happy May Day! Becca- You will be happy to know that my daycare kiddos are making May Baskets today and we will be filling them with flowers and baked things and hanging them on neighbor's doors! We do this every year. Usually contains, flowers, muffins, and perhaps home made dog treats for the doggie owners.
Barbie- Thank you for continuing our thread!
My May plan is to
*keep up with the water intake (April went really well)
*log daily (Also did well here in April)
*walk daily (so-so in April)
*add some strength training
I have been holding steady, but I really need to push myself to lose. My goal is to lose a minimum of five pounds this month. Definitely achievable; I just have to use my word: Action. xoxoxo love and hugs to all! KJ (Kelly)5 -
Mayday! Mayday!
Thank you Barbie for getting us set up.
I had pretty hefty goals for April, and other than walking average of 8,000 steps per day, failed in many of them.
So, to be more realistic:- Walk an average of 8,000 steps per day. Hopefully more!
- Keep logging!
- Eat my calories each day – I think part of my downfall was going too low, getting hungry after supper then going way overboard. Haven’t been eating my exercise calories but might be a good idea if I’ve had a lot of exercise.
- Keep more healthy snacks around: avocado, cheese, apples…. Things I’m not so tempted to overdo.

How many of you take a multi-vitamin and if so, why – doctor or other professional recommended? Because you thought you needed it? If you do take one, do you think it helps?
I got a free sample of Irwin’s gel multi vitamins for women at the health food store, it’s packed with all kinds of good things. Supposed to take three per day. Well, since I eat a pretty good diet with lots of fruits, veggies, beans and all kinds of nuts, I think I get a lot of the trace vitamins despite the fact that many soils are depleted.
Anyhow, I liked the vitamin just fine. I know Weight Watchers recommends taking one.
So the plan is.... I’ll take one with supper in addition to my 5000 of D3. I’ve started to take kelp also for the iodine since I don’t eat a lot of ocean seafood and I’ve switched to Himalayan pink salt instead of Morton’s iodized.
Scotch eggs…has anyone ever made them? I saw a recipe in “That Sugar Book” and they look good – basically peeled hardboiled eggs coated with ground sausage and baked. I was wondering what the best type of sausage would be – pork sausage at the store is generally coarse ground plus I don’t like the flavor of a lot of pork. Chicken might be good though.
Everyone have a wonderful week!!
