Happy last day of June everyone. Don't forget to look for Barbie's new month link and bookmark it so you can find us again, newbies
Laying low today, I think I did too much on the elliptical cause my knee was really achy yesterday so taking a day off from exercise, maybe just a little walking.
Hugs to everyone NYKAREN1 -
Today is going to busy. Waiting for a doctor's office to open so I can make an emergency appointment for my older son. His sleep apnea mask has done something horrible to the area under his lower lip. Huge blister-like, but hard thing that is doing something nasty on one side (believe me that's all the detail you want). Then, if everything will be ok, we have an appointment to address wheelchair woes. And somewhere in there I'm supposed to make and deliver dinner to a church member who had double knee surgery. Oh ... and go to work ... not sure that's going to happen!

Happy Birthday Allie! I have a busy day ahead: getting ready for the kids! They are on their way!

TeRe in RVA, the Weimariners are so beautiful. One our walk this morning, a skunk crossed the street in front of us and it was all I could do to hold her back. Certainly don’t want a skunked dog.2

Beth (((hugs))) for such a stress-filled day. Hoping the mask and wheelchair fixes are quick and reliable, sounds really painful. Sending and strength. NYKAREN2

Good morning all! I have enjoyed reading all the posts! Let me introduce myself; my name is Rosalie and I .live in middle Georgia. I am 67, saved, married, 7 children (2 deceased), 26 grands, 9 great-grands, and I work from home part time. Currently, I weigh 233 lbs. (5'2), have CHF, RA, HBP, OA, and Reflux. As you can see, I need to lose weight for the sake of my health. I know God didn't mean for me to mistreat my body this way, but I forget that when I see foods I want or like!
Michele, I recently had to have my black Lab, Rambo, put down; since I live in an apt, I couldn't bury him in the back yard. Fortunately, my vet lives on a farm, and he has a place where he buries pets for his customers. That was a blessing because I didn't want him cremated!
I, too, keep my appliances on my counter. There's not very much counter space in my small kitchen, but I love cooking gadgets, so my counter top is full. Those I don't use regularly are in the storage room. By the way, what is an insta pot?
I love the picture of the black squirrel; I don't remember ever seeing one before. Our squirrels are grey, but last year, while visiting my son in Virginia, I say the prettiest golden squirrel! It really was beautiful!
Well, I must go now; I'm scheduled to work 3 hours today starting at 11 am. Be back later! Have a blessed day all!1 -
Pip: The day when you "just don't have it" far exceeds my best exercise day. You are an amazing athlete. :flowerforyou:
rparkerslim: Welcome to a great group. Tell us about yourself.
Michele: We leave our coffee pot & toaster on the counter, but other small appliances are kept in the cupboards. One of my counters has a row of cookbooks along the back. :ohwell: I'll bet your kitchen looks great.
Lenora: Congress of Buzzards is too good a decription. Too bad it fits. :grumble:
Machka: Vancouver Island is one of my favorite places on the planet. See if you can visit the Butchart Gardens & Chemainus while you're there. The art in Chemainus is fabulous.
Tere: I don't jog because of knee issues & I think you are wise to do other things that are easier on your joints. Bicycling, walking, swimming and yoga are all healthier for your bones and ligaments. I have two left feet so I don't dance but I suspect it would be wonderful for you--other than clogging.
Allie: Happy birthday!!! I love your new picture!
Mauitn: Weimaraners are gorgeous. I love most dogs. The ones that aren't on my love list are those with owners who don't teach them good manners.
I want to go to yoga today and to finish washing the deck. DH is sick. He sounds like he has a nasty cold. He was so noisy last night that I went to another bedroom to sleep. Poor guy.

Allie, I must have missed something. Happy Birthday!
For some reason I'm having trouble posting on here. My computer keeps cutting in and out. The black squirrel was in our back yard and I thought it was a kitten when I first glanced at it.0 -

Hello all!
Happy 4th of July long weekend everyone!
Just picked up hubs from the local airport from a 4 day biz trip to San Francisco and our son, Ben just arrived from Houston for a few days. To bad our daughter, Ros isn't here. However, we will see her when we vacay there at the end of the month. As well as Karen in VA!
Lost 2 pounds this month. Seems I am averaging about 2 a month since January. I'll take it. Current low is 173 lbs. I am celebrating NSVs. Being able to paint my toenails! Putting lotion on my upper arms with one hands width swipe. Looking down and being able to even see my toes..no more tummy impeding the view! Tweeking my eating here and there and working out with weights and cardio 5 days a week. Getting 18,000+ steps per day. CICO is not working here folks. I understand that with me and focus on the trend which is downward on the average and I will take that.
Following all your stories. Aren't we a supportive group of super ladies!!!
That's all for now. Quick update. I read your posts everyday!

cheri. Lucky you to have a meet up with a Karen, I'm jealous congrats on all your successes, it's not the lbs that matter as much as the trajectory you're on, and the fact that your BMI is going down is Fantastic very inspiring.

Tere ~ Happy Anniversary and sorry you are feeling blue.
Kelly ~ Love the picture! Have a wonderful visit. Is that you are your daughter holding Joaquin? Beautiful eyes!
Allie ~ Happy Birthday!
I have fiddled so much with my computer settings that I totally messed it up. So I tried doing a system reset to an earlier date and afterward it wouldn't boot up. After much trying everything I could think of, I did a reset to factory settings. Luckily, I did a backup of my files before. Now I am using Windows 7 instead of 10. And, most of my files are there.

Happy Birthday, Allie!
Not feeling it at work this week. I haven't accomplished very much.
My youngest and I leave tomorrow morning to go up to my mother's for the 4th of July. Hubby is flying into Seattle on Sunday, so we're going to take the ferry across the Sound from Bremerton. We have ferries around here, but they are very primitive, so I've had a fun time trying to describe to my 10 year old what a large commuter ferry will be like. We're still trying to decide what to do in Seattle while we wait for my husband's flight -- Needle (my mother says it's closed for renovation?), Wheel, locks and fish ladders, zoo . . . we haven't decided. We will leave my son at my mom's for the next two weeks. We always did this when I was a kid, but my husband didn't, so he's having a hard time not seeing this as "abandoning" our son. When I was a kid, I loved my 2-3 weeks with my grandmother. My son is also looking forward to his time. The last time we were at my mom's I bought an adult and a children's kayak, so my son and I are looking forward to some kayaking this weekend. (My mom lives on a lake.)
I've been working on my Butterfly at the pool over the last two weeks. My son has stopped laughing at me, although he still has a silly smile after I've done a length! Lol I've had lessons on it before, but it's been awhile, so I spent time last night watching youtube videos! It's such a great stroke -- really gets the heart racing.
KJ -- have fun with your kiddos!
Cheri -- congrats on the downward trend. Awesome.
Welcome, Rosalie. I don't have RA, but because of Celiac, I struggle with arthritis-type symptoms. I am especially stiff today for some reason -- couldn't have been that Butterfly last night!
Beth -- hoping you can get some relief for your son today.
Best to all today.

Beth – What type of mask does your son use with his C-pap – sounds like he is wearing a half-mask or full-mask which covers the face and all. I am way too claustrophobia to wear either; so I have a ‘wisp’ mask, which covers only the nose. It the mask gets dirty or has too much oil from his skin and isn’t sanitized to clean it that might be what is causing the blister. Lincare replaces my masks monthly and my tubing every 6 months and the filters. Water chamber needs to be washed, with hot water, every week to get the slime out of the bottom and ‘distilled water’ is the only type of water that should be in it
Michele – While I know that a ‘divorce’ isn’t in the mix; but, I had to think of you and another friend (classmate of mine) who was the mother of the bride and this happened to her. Mothers of the bride are ‘supposed’ to pick out their dresses first; and, then the mother of the groom picks out another dress that compliments the wedding parties. So here goes:
Divorce isn’t easy to handle. Not only is it difficult for the adults involved, it’s especially taxing on the children. It’s a messy situation that often does not end peacefully.
When one Dad married a younger woman, he thought it would be a great idea to bring his new wife to his daughter’s wedding. This seems perfectly normally in theory… but there’s just one problem.
The new wife wanted to make a statement to the mother-of-the-bride. That was the wrong move, and things were about to get real ugly…
With Jennifer’s wedding day getting closer, nothing could make the excited bride lose momentum. Not even her parents’ divorce.
Jennifer’s mom had found the perfect dress and would look like a beautiful mother-of-the-bride on her daughter’s big day.
But just one week later, Jennifer discovered that her father’s 25-year-old wife had bought the exact same dress as her mom…
So she asked her stepmom to return it but the young wife refused.
“No way! I look amazing in this dress, and I’m wearing it,” she replied.
Jennifer broke the bad news to her mother but the matron took it surprisingly well.
“Don’t worry, darling. I’ll just find a new dress. It’s your special day and this won’t get in the way.”
Just a few days later, they went shopping and found another beautiful dress.
When they got home, Jennifer asked her mom, “When will you return the other dress? You don’t really have another reason to wear it anytime soon.”
“Of course I do!” her mom replied. “I’m going to wear it for the rehearsal dinner the night before your wedding.”
RITFLMAO!!!!!
Rosalie – Where in middle Georgia do you live? I grew up in Forsyth … as did Carol (peach1948) – 25 miles north of Macon. But, neither of us stayed there. We were transferred back to Macon about the time my DYS was due; stayed 2 years and got transferred back to Albany only for him to be 'laid off' within 6 months. I probably would have preferred to have been still in Macon since I have reconnected with a lot of my HS friends, some who live in Macon. But, it wasn't to be. But, we are back in a small town about 25 miles NW of Albany, GA and I am in town 3 or 4 times a week. Go to MDs there and I do my shopping there. I do go to Macon for one MD appointment 4x a year. We get together and have lunch on the days that I do.
Allie – HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!
Carol – I use Windows 10; took me a while to get used to it; I think Windows 8 was the worst. My computer automatically updates, so that is how I ended up with Windows 10; but, I use Windows Outlook 2013.
DDnL#1 is going on a job interview. I let her borrow the car; they are using it to go see friends in PCB, FL this weekend. Says that Madison has been signed up for ‘Driver’s Ed’ classes; so maybe she is starting to realize that her being able to drive is important. I can understand her ‘not’ wanting to get in the car in which I am the driver; but, I could drive to the school and pick them up, and, she could drive home. That’s what Taylor did when she was 16. She also could NOT wait to be able to drive. I’m the one who taught her how to drive down a mucky, muddy, wet dirt road. She did what I had told her (before we got on it) and did exactly what she needed to do and kept us off the sides of the road (where ditches used to be).
Welcome to all the ‘newbies’ here. Barbiecat will be posting a link to take us to July; make sure you bookmark the page when you get there by clicking on the outline of the start. It will turn yellow. After that all you will have to do to find us is click on the gray star between the bell and gear. It will have a drop down that shows you all the other pages you might be on and the newest of the WOMEN 50+ for the month of July.

Taking a breather ... son now has oral antibiotics and topical antibiotics. He's not going to be able to wear his sleep apnea mask for a while and that's going to be problematic. He'll become narcoleptic within 2-3 days. But at least the infection should heal. Lenora ...my son has been having issues with his masks for the last couple of weeks. A change in masks because of leaking and quick mask deterioration gave him a nose that looked like he'd been in a bar room brawl. So they gave us a mask that didn't involve the bridge of the nose ... a full face mask ... looks like something a scuba diver would wear. It had incredible high leaks and aides have been tightening it too much. Clean skin is an issue as well. We do all the things you mentioned, but it's time to see people who know what they're doing. I suspect poor fit along with poor care is our culprit.
Dinner for the recovering church member is almost done. Made beef stew, ended up buying crusty bread (was going to bake) and made a strawberry pie. Doubled up on everything so we'll have some for our dinner.
Won't make it to the wheelchair appointment ... hoping the aide with my son is smart enough to read my list right.
Younger son has been helping me out today and was all set to make dinner until he discovered I had to cook anyways. He's promising a feast for tomorrow! Lol!
Kelly ... sweet photo ...

Had a skim through posts
ALLIE- Happy Birthday and keep strong, sounds like you have a good lawyer
LENORA- love the story about the brides mom and the dress
MARY - sorry about your problem with your hairdresser
HEATHER- your son looks so proud of his beautiful fur baby, animals are so good for people aren't they, they love unconditionally. I would like another doggie but DH not keen and we do go away a lot so wouldn't be fair. I get to walk the dog when I go to DDs and also pet a chicken ( they used to have 3 or 4 but only 1 left now she seems quite happy as she used to get bullied by the others)
Welcome to new girls
Got to go now as Fri night I have my friend over for a chat and a drink. She is 85 and loves to talk we don't always agree on things but have known each other for over 40 years. After 60 years of not too happy marriage her DH has dementia and is in a care home. She visits him everyday ?? sorry don't think I would as he's not a nice man but I think she pities him now. Her son lives with her but he is bipolar and great in some ways but not practical. My DH has to go and fix things or assemble stuff they buy

I didn't want to be fat and 50, now I'm 53 and need to lose half my body weight, which came as a shock when I bought some scales. I don't think its a diet more a change of life. No biscuits/cakes unless I've made them. Once the 'naughty' thing are gone out of the cupboard I'm not replacing them. If its in the house I will eat it !!!!!!!5

Allie. Happy Birthday friend! Love ya!
To my friends that are also on Facebook, you probably saw my drama filled day yesterday! Well it's blown over, amazing how sleeping on a situation gives you a new perspective! I won't go into the specifics but I was supporting my middle sister with some decisions. while her daughter decided to mentally throw her under the bus. Anywho, I think the rollercoaster ride is done, thank goodness!
Spent all day yesterday traveling to Vancouver WA, so son could speak with the Chief at the recruiting office there. Part of my sons last 30 days until he goes into the Navy. But waiting 3 to 4 hours for him yo be seen was a bit much! Finally my own Retired CPO said " enough, I'm taking my son home to the coast. You may contact, visit our home for any additional information you need"! As it was our son had seen the Chief, and was in the process of doing the monthly mentoring side of the meeting. My husband also called out a recruiter walking from his car to the office that he needed to set the example and wear his " cover" ( his cap). The Chief in my husband almost used his " Chief's voice" across the parking lot, but decided to walk to confront the recruiter instead. You can leave the Navy, but you can't take the Navy out of a man.

Machka: Vancouver Island is one of my favorite places on the planet. See if you can visit the Butchart Gardens & Chemainus while you're there. The art in Chemainus is fabulous.
I haven't been to the Butchart Gardens, but I've been to Chemainus 2 or 3 times. This time, we had a cycling event from Duncan to Victoria, and then we cycled back up to Duncan the next day. Then we headed for Port Hardy at the top because I hadn't been there before.
These photos were on a cycling tour we did there in 2011. On the second page are a number of photos of the murals in Chemainus:

All of that behind me (a slightly heavier me, I see) is one of murals in Chemainus ...

Cheri: Congratulations on your success! Two pounds a month is sustainable and excellent progress. WTG!
Allie: Add me to the friends wishing you a happy birthday. :flowerforyou:
Kate: Enjoy your criuse!
Becca: I spend a very little time on facebook these days so I missed your drama. It sounds like things are okay now. I hope so. :flowerforyou:
Yoga was full of students today. I don't remember seeing so many people in class before. It was a good class and I'm glad I went. I also finished up power washing the deck today and put the furniture where it belongs and the pressure washer away in the garage. Now I have free time. DH is down with a bug and is sleeping in the living room. I have a job for him when he is feeling better. It looks like I nicked a water pipe in our watering system while I was planting some new flowers. We will need to splice it & DH is the guy with the skills.
Have a great day!

Did an hour of deep water today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a 30 Minutes to Fitness DVD (probably do it twice, I think there are two different programs on that DVD)
Went to WalMart, exercised, on the way home stopped at CVS to get salad dressing for Jess (I only paid 50 cents a bottle, and it was a large bottle), then the Salvation Army then home. Vince says we will have to paint the front door (boo) so I think we'll go to WalMart, which is OK since I got sunglasses but I really want something bigger. I'll look at this WalMart, that's where Vince got his (or was it at the WalMart in FL?)
Lenora - I don't know if I want Allie to use a pic of TomCat as her avatar. My monitor probably can't take the abuse I would give it trying to "hurt" his picture. Yes, many times I buy the individual servings of something. It may be more expensive, but it's cheaper than having to buy a whole wardrobe. I really like Re's names too. I always look forward to them. No, she didn't put the dead cat in any sort of bag. Should some "critter" dig it up, I certainly wouldn't tell her. I would like to put my mixer behind some sort of cabinet, I've also seen where you can put it on this shelf which rises when you need to use the mixer. That would be cool. Isn't there a law that now outlets have to be spaced every few feet? I seem to remember that from when we had the garage built.
Joyce - oh, we had the animal graveyard, too. In case you're ever wondering, hamsters do freeze. We were living in the Poconos at the time and the ground was frozen so we couldn't bury it. So I froze it until the ground thawed out. When our first cat got killed, I planted daffodil bulbs on top of his grave so years afterwards, I knew where the grave was. Honestly, since we don't live there any more, the new owners probably don't know the significance of the flowers. The kitchen in our previous house wasn't well thought out, either. I swear it was designed by a man and the people before us "updated" the kitchen. they put in these nice cherrywood cabinets, but why they put a spice rack right next to the stove is beyond me. And the oven right next to the kitchen table so that if you were to slide your chair out, you had to be careful that the oven door wasn't open or else you'd hit it
Just got back from Lowes Hardware where Vince got a fill valve kit for one of the toilets. He heard it running. It was so small that I never even heard it. The only reason he heard it was because he happened to be in the bathroom at a time when the a/c wasn't running. We also got sample chips of paints that we might use on the door. Just have to decide which one. Then we stopped at WalMart and I got better sunglasses
Allie - happy birthday. Like your new avatar but would like to see more of the face.
Beth - good thoughts for your son. Try to keep your cool is all I can say. What gets done, gets done. Your first priority is your son
Jess is talking about going to a winery for the bridal shower. Personally, I think that's a great idea, something a bit different. The one thing is that the one cousin of Pete's is only 18. One winery said that no one, no exceptions, under the age of 21 is allowed. So she's going to look into it and see if maybe some other winery will let an under-21 person be on the premises.
Rosalie - welcome! That was so nice of your vet to let you bury your dog on his property. You can check on Amazon for a better description of the insta pot. Basically, it's a multi- function appliance -- some of the things are pressure cooker, slow cooker, ricer, yogurt maker, etc.
Jess just called. She's getting a new car, a Mazda CX5, 2015, from TN but they will transport it. To have it transported to VA would be $500, to have it transported to Hickory would be $200. Guess where it's being transported????? One of her absolute requirements is that whatever vehicle she gets has got to be a standard. And they're becoming harder and harder to come by. But this place in TN had one. Well, she hasn't seen it yet so technically she doesn't have a new car. They said that transportation will take 2 or 3 weeks.
Kate - loved all the pics. What an interesting shape for the pool. Do they have a Humane Society over there? At the Humane Society here you can take the dog for a walk and just spend time with them but you aren't committed to any time frame.
Lenora - after our wedding, my father came and went on and on about how I treated his wife. Honestly, I couldn't have cared less if she didn't come to the wedding. But she was upset because I wanted my godmother (my mother's only full sister) to be more of a mother-of-the-bride than her. Vince really ripped into my father. But everything was fine between them afterwards. It's interesting, I never liked his wife. I remember when I must have been about 11 he asked me what I would think if he asked her to marry him and I answered "I wouldn't think much about it". Well, he asked me again when I was about 17 and this time logic kicked in. "I'll probably get married, he should have someone". As it turns out my father, the REAL REAL religious person (went to church every day) was contemplating divorcing her. The only reason he didn't was because if he did, she'd get 1/2 of everything. I think she was thinking she'd outlive him and get all of his money (not that there was much). Didn't work out that way....my father outlived two wives. Jennifer's mom was a real hoot. Wish I could have been at that rehearsal dinner.
Becca - I don't go to Facebook much any more, but now I will just to find out about your drama.
