Oh my. What a difference it makes. I shouldn't have eaten the ice cream yet (IBS is still flaring), but the difference making it in that from making it in my old Oster was like night and day!
Yay! Happy early Birthday!
So, I pulled out my full Ninja set after the discussion about blenders here. I only ever used the small jar/blade or medium jar/blade. For some reason, I always thought the tall jar used the same blade as the medium (maybe because they use the same lid). It noticed that the tall one actually has a different blade that would do a much better job on the ice! So anyway, I tried it last night and it crushed/blended the ice SO much faster! Making the ice cream was a million times easier!!! Super pumped.
Sorry you have to eat like a normal person today, @nowine4me !
That's awesome! Which Ninja set do you have?
Ahhh I see. It has the full size blade for the tall one which is the exact one I have in my Ninja too. Good thing you discovered that! I like the idea of having those different size cups and blades for various things. Very cool set0 -
I apologize if I missed this - but to those of you blending the ice - are you using strictly water ice cubes or has anyone tried stuff like coffee ice cubes or almondmilk ice cubes?0

Thanks! Yeah, I'm so happy I pulled it out to see. That middle-size blade was getting it done...just taking a while!
Now I can whip up a batch in less than 5 minutes!2 -

OOhhhh. I see. I don't know why I thought they were just little things.0

Have any of you volume eaters ever made any desserts made by the guy who runs The Flexible Dieting Lifestyle? Some of his creations look insanely delicious, but then others seem kind of out there haha.

This is the first I've seen of him and most of the food looks awesome! Where are the actual recipes?
I don't have/use Instagram..so maybe I'm just confused.0 -

The ones through that link are all behind a paywall from what I can tell. Here's the link to his youtube recipes:

Mrs. Dann- You asked for some volume suggestions for meals- I like to use three or more veggies and a lean protein and this is great because it is a lot and the veggies make it lower in calories. You could also do soups or stews and my absolute favorite- stir fry- just various the veggie and or meat- the possibilities are endless-- also mushrooms have a meat like texture but I STILL love my meat- but I do use like half mushrooms and half meat in my soups or stews to give more volume and less calories.2

Thanks, @ElvenToad !1

@MrsDan1667 my go-to lunch is a bag of steamed broccoli w/diced peppers, 1/2 cup black beans and sprinkle of feta with sriracha sauce. Or a huge zucchini diced over cottage cheese and topped with a handful of nuts3

@crazyravr, your pictures are what I miss most about raw vegetables/salad. The sheer beauty of that volume and the convenience of bagged salad.
Well, I'm all over my flare thanks to having raw veggies out of my system, and had some protein ice cream last night with no digestive issues from it, so I am loving life with my Ninja.
I think I'll go out today and pick up some cookies and cream pp to try the chocolate chip/mint flavor ice cream for today, unless my mood changes towards salted caramel later.
Oh, and last night, I had CRAZY volume. I put some frozen strawberries in with the ice and made snow with it all before I added the almond milk and syrup. I blended all that then added vanilla protein powder. The strawberries added 50 calories to the recipe and a nice subtle strawberry flavor and the whole batch filled up the entire Ninja pitcher.5 -
@crazyravr You take great photos, they always look so delicious and professional!
@GottaBurnEmAll That is great news! I'm happy you get to enjoy your ice cream again and yummo with the strawberries. Crazy volume is where its at!
I experimented with making the Shamrock Shake protein ice cream with french vanilla pp and peppermint extract and ohhhh my gosh... I may never make another flavor again it's phenomenal! Topped with fat free reddi whip and it just melts down into the ice cream and together the combination is just heavenly. Spot on Shamrock so thank you @kellyjellybellyjelly for giving me the idea!

I just had the mint chip ice cream for dinner. I had it with a lot of the Koala Krisp cereal so I am stuffed full. I can't even decide any more which is my favorite flavor. It's nice having so many options that I can have moods and be happy with all the different choices.
I must get some Fat Free Reddi Whip. That's genius.3 -
Went to GNC & bought sample packs of Quest's Vanilla, Cinnamon Crunch, & Chocolate to try on my protein ice cream. Of course had to buy some protein bars (after these are gone I'll just stick to buying protein bars at Big Lots when they have good ones or whenever I have a good coupon/sale at GNC).
I went to Weis today & bought two Enlightened pints of Red Velvet & found I didn't care for it as much since I started to make protein ice cream & would rather eat that or Edy's slow churned. Now Halo Top is still awesome & I have two coupons stocked up for when the new flavors are released.
I'm also starting to think I have IBS. I already know I cannot eat beef (bad stomach gas) & every now & then it seems that broccoli/cauliflower seem to give me bad pains right under my rib cage. The one that might have triggered the pains today was the bag of Birds Eye Sriracha green beans I ate yesterday.1 -
don't you just hate when a veggie starts to give you some stomach pain or issues- I CAN eat a large salad for lunch-- but not for dinner- in the evening- my stomach just gets all gassy- and I promise it is the SAME salad- oh well-2

Gas X people. You're welcome!
I'm getting a little bored with my standard heaping bowl of veggies for lunch so I'm mixing it up next week. I'm gonna do big Bento boxes with this: 1 sliced red pepper, 1 large zucchini (cut in sticks), 1 Apple, 1 babybel light, handful of grapes, 4oz hummus, hard boiled egg. Maybe add a single serve cottage cheese and some pistachios. I know, super exciting!6 -

A lot of veggies and cottage cheese sounds exciting to me! I have to eat mine now on top of cooked veggies. It's really good with butternut squash.2 -
I finally tried the ice cream again, ie fluff with ice cubes and syrup and now I got it to work.
It was great - it fluffed and was pretty creamy (more so than my in between version). Tbh, it didn't feel like actual ice cream though. It had the taste and the creaminess of soft serve ice cream but just wasn't cold enough. But I also understand why... I make it in the food processor and not a highend blender, ie I can't make ice snow out of the cubes. I can crush them in there but I just need much longer for that so it will ultimately create a milk/ice slush which works but is just not as perfect.Gotcha. Yeah if the blender can't crush up ice very well, its definitely going to be a struggle to make ice cream. Mine will crush an entire tray of ice cubes in 3 seconds to snow which is pretty impressive to me. My old blender would just struggle and I would end up with quite a few large chunks of ice mixed in my ice cream boo.
I think quite a few people are using a food processor very successfully for their ice cream so that sounds like it might be the way to go for you too. Good luck and let us know how it turns out next time you decide to give it a go!
I don't have any chunks of ice in my fluff as you described but I do have some splinters occasionally because my food process just can't create ice snow so it's a balancing act between keeping the machine going to crush the ice cubes even smaller or making it into a soup.
But it's all good (for me at least) because the consistency is great.I bought a tub of Pure Protein French Vanilla pp awhile ago on Amazon but I didn't really like it that much as a shake or in my cheesecake recipe so its just been sitting in my pantry. I decided to give it a go as ice cream (inspired by @nowine4me with the chocolate syrup and sprinkles). Annnnd holy crap, it makes delicious creamy freaking ice cream and I feel like an idiot for not trying it soonerI apologize if I missed this - but to those of you blending the ice - are you using strictly water ice cubes or has anyone tried stuff like coffee ice cubes or almondmilk ice cubes?
I should add one observation: ice cubes out of coffee are not as hard than out of water. So they crush differently and work probably better for lower-powered devices like my food processor. The ice cream version I made with coffee ice cubes was definitely even creamier than with water ice cubes and it had zero ice splinters. Thinking about it, I even wonder if you can make snow from coffee ice cubes with a highend blender - would be interesting to hear from someone who has a Ninja or something comparable.
I never tried making ice cubes out of milk but that gives me an idea. If it works I'll report back.
To talk about something else than just protein fluff/ice cream... I made one of my favorite stir-fries yesterday, so I thought I'll share:
Chicken breast with bell peppers, tomatoes, champignons (mushrooms) and zucchini noodles:
The entire pan in the picture came in at 436 cal. It was more than one plate and you could probably split it into 2 meals but I was really hungry so I ate it all. lol14 -

I have an industrial strength blender (specifically designed for commercial bars and handling liquids) and it can make snow. That presents an issue for me, though, and I can't make this ice cream. The RPM is so high that ice cubes are sprayed on the walls as snow within 2 seconds. Even if I push the snow back down around the blades I it doesn't blend and center stays empty due to centrifugal force, so need to add enough liquid for the ingredients to touch the blades while they're rotating, and then it's a shake not an ice cream. No speed control on this thing, only pre-installed programs which is sad. It's awesome for soups and sauces, though.0 -

Have you tried using double the ingredients? You might not be able to eat it all but it might work.
In your case "softer" ice cubes (like out of coffee) might work perhaps? Not sure but perhaps worth a try because they def break differently than ones out of water.

It's worth a try. I may give it a try on Sunday. I'm out of powder and won't be buying more till Sunday. Here is my blender in case someone has a similar one and made it work before I waste twice the ingredients?
Edited: Never mind. I know I'm not going to waste anything. If it doesn't work I will just add a bit of ice cream and turn it into a frozen shake. Beats the point of eating for volume, but it would still be delicious.1 -
I should have taken a picture, but I ate it all before I thought about it. Tonight I made carrot noodles with my little (crappy) hand held spiralizer. Most of two ginormous carrots filled a large frying pan with carroodles (just made that up...). I steam/sauteed them for a few minutes and then added a few tablespoons of peanut satay sauce. I may turn orange tomorrow, but I don't care. It was delicious (and a great workout for my forearm!)7

This will be my favorite thread. I need 3000 calories daily and never seam to achieve it!0

Didn't take a pic of supper, but made a yummy and quick Greek zoodle salad. Two zucchini, pint grape tomatoes, black olives, feta cheese, EVOO, salt & pepper.
Then this awesome ice cream fluff (best of the 4 I had today) with PEScience peanut butter cookie, a sprinkle of sea salt and cocoa nibs.
ETA: it's not that big because I ate half before I took pic).4 -

Update: I Had to add so much liquid to make it work that it turned into a shake, but a very big and delicious chocolate caramel coffee flavored cold shake. Not disappointed.3
