Saturday -- Eastern Shore Exploration ... we thought we might do a bit of exploring, a road or two we haven't ridden or haven't ridden in some time ... and also to check out the trail system in Clarence. We discovered that they've been working away at this and that and have been putting together quite a decent trail system. Much better than some of the other local councils, including our own!
But all this exploration ended up being hilly ... much hillier than I thought it was going to be!

I am new to the message boards. I had a death in the family in late June. It really knocks you back a step. I was doing really well, eating clean and walking about 10,000 steps a day. The month of July started off bad but I just got back on track this week. Goals for the month are low. Get back on track. Thanks for the inspiration. You don't know how much help it was reading this along with many of the replies.8

@tallee You have come to the right place for support and inspiration. A warning: we are very chatty, so come often and chime right in! These women are an amazing bunch. Each has a unique perspective; we don't always agree on everything, but we respect and value each other.

I helped a friend sort through her books because she is moving to an assistant living complex. I did get inspired to start getting rid of and shred old financial documents. Not the ones in the last seven years. I bought one of those super shredder on the advice of Frank Abagnale, he works for the government on fraud. Unfortunately it can't go in the recycle when shredded like that so I am trying to recycle the parts I can. That is where I am trying to declutter. DH is also been selling things on Craig's list. He is inspiring me too. I think I found someone at church who wants my old guitar. I keep telling myself I will try once again to start playing and it doesn't happen. If I play again I need to do it with our piano. I also have some clothes my mom saved from the 50's those are next on my list. I need to look into a vintage shop.

Thanks for the welcome ladies! I live in the Hill Country of Texas. I am on a journey to re-lose about 80 lbs. I am an emotional and boredom eater. I have known for years the weight was creeping back up, but haven't had the spark to stop it. My husband had some gallbladder issues that started us eating better to help him. That (and the nurse at the Dr telling me my weight, which was an all time high by 6 lbs) started my obsession with getting the weight back off. I tend to be pretty hard core, once the switch gets flipped for me, I am all in. I am a firm believer that there is no bad food, if I really want a slice of pizza, I have it. I just work the rest of the day around it. I look forward to getting to know you ladies and exchanging stories and knowledge with you all.

Welcome Okie and Talle!
I live Hot Springs, Arkansas, and have lost over 38 lbs so far. I want to lose 70 more. It's been slow going since back surgery last year, but I'm determined to do this! Not just for a smaller size, but to help my back and for better health!
What is your names and where do y'all live? Okie I lived in Austin for 12 years.
Margaret I'm trying to clean out stuff too. I found my shredder so I'm going to get busy on old papers and clear out my file cabinet so I can get this years stuff in there. I still have boxes in the garage I haven't unpacked yet since we moved in (Sept 2015). I would like to sell some stuff on eBay too. I've done that before and it does take some effort and time to get good pictures and be creative with your descriptions and the post. You really need an staging area somewhere in your home to do it.
I like watching the "hoarding" shows on TV once in a while. It makes me want to get busy! I'm nowhere near a hoarder but I do have my collections!

NYKaren: I really like Karen in VA's comments. She has very good thoughts on the matter of conducting. Good luck with your decision.
KJ: I agree that you're an exceptional daycare provider. Your young charges are lucky that their parents found you. :flowerforyou:
Felicia: The "little things" are tangible proof that we are succeeding. WTG!!!
Alison: Your brother is out of line. Letting his rants go to voicemail and then deleting them is an excellent plan.
Kim: DH has been requesting what you just suggested for years now. He wants to have our ashes shot off of the cliff from the site on the Oregon Coast where we were married. This spot is part of a state park. His full idea would be to mix our ashes before shooting them off of the cliff using some sort of fireworks. I worry about how they could be "shot" off the cliff. It is a lovely spot and the idea of being scattered from there has appeal but I wonder who would do it for us. Our kids might. They've only been to our spot once. My cousins had their folks ashes dropped into the Little Nestucca River from a friend's airplane. Shortly before his death my Uncle told my dad that he was preparing to leave his wife for another woman. He had an aneurism rupture unexpectedly and died on the way to the emergency room before he actually left her. My auntie lived for many additional years before she passed & the kids had their ashes mixed & scattered in the river together. :flowerforyou:
Becca: I hope your tests come out well. Kidney stones are reportedly very painful. Nice BP number!
Oke & Talle: Welcome to a great group!
Dana: Our neighbor is a retired attorney and has her records shredded by a company that comes around with a big truck. DH would like to have our old documents shredded that way, too. We need to ask her if she is planning to send more things off, and how to contact the shredder company. I hate having all this old paperwork filling up our garage. :grumble:
Riding lesson today! Yay!!!

We don't have upper cabinets in our kitchen ... upper cabinets are rare in Australia, although it is possible some of the newer houses are including them.
However, this is what's above our china cabinets ... I did mention earlier that we have a lot of bicycle stuff in our place.

Machka I like your pictures of the Eastern Shore ride and your bicycle stuff!
My husband is a big collector too. He has been collecting American Indian artifacts for 50 years. Some Paleo points are 10-12 thousand years old and the Mississippian pottery about 800-1000 years old. I love them too since I always bought American Indian (Navajo) turquoise jewelry. I also collect some Indian dolls and baskets too.

Dana - LOVE your DH's collection. That is sooooooooooooo my kind of thing! My DH can't understand my fascination with all things ancient, but they speak to me. I only have a very, very few things though, mainly Ancient Roman. I have one small piece of a Sabatean bowl. Very envious of the bowl.

Is that from the Crow Canyon area? They are SO tough on people looking for artifacts on public lands now in SW Colorado. We stick with private lands but even then many people won't let you pick up or take finds.

Dana - love the collections! Your home is perfect for displaying your treasures! When I was a kid growing up in Northern Indiana, we'd find arrowheads, spear heads, axe heads in the cornfields. We have them tucked away here. I think when we "get old" I'll see if the county museum or an Indian tribe from back there would want them.
Out here in WA State, when there's a public works project, the city or county has to hire state archeologists to examine the area first and make sure there are not unusual artifacts or Native American burial sites at the location.
Machka - love your little bikes! What a neat way to display them. Also loved the pictures of your neighborhood. I may have to put the Oz area on my bucket list. Any US Ex-pats living around there?
Regarding shredding - our credit union has "free shred" day once a year and will take up to three banker boxes. I can jam a lot into three boxes. The event is coming up next Saturday. The gals there told me if I have a little that needs to be shredded in the meantime, bring it in and they'll toss it into their big shredder for me. Sometimes the county transfer station offers a "free shred" day as well.
Have a great weekend ladies!

I listen to podcasts by The Minimalists and just finished the audio book, "Lose the Clutter, Lose the Weight". Listening to these things has given me tools to release things that are taking up space in my house and my mind without contributing to the vision I have of my life. Jake and I are in agreement that we don't want to make money our stuff and would prefer to give things away either to someone we know or to a thrift shop that supports a cause that is important to us.
This weekend is the Lavender Festival in Sequim and there will be thousands of visitors in our small town. Jake wants to go to a few lavender farms and take photos and then go to a favorite place for lavender ice cream. This is my rare occasion when I eat ice cream.
Allie, if you have caller id and know that it's your brother calling, don't answer and then delete his voice mail. There is no reason for you to accept that abuse. If he is a recovering alcoholic, then it is clear that he is not recovering and he needs some help either from a program like A.A. or a professional.

Shredding ~ My DH has been going through papers for the last few weeks that dated back to the 1980's. When he gets it all boxed, we will call a company to shred it. So far about 300 lbs worth. At least he found our college certificates, his mom's original adoption papers, our son's birth certificate, etc. So glad he didn't just pitch it all.
I am bagging up all my vintage jewelry into gallon bags. So far, about 10 bags and a book shelf full of boxes to sort through. Loved seeing some of the pieces that belonged to well known vintage designers. Do not know what I will end up doing with it.
Becca ~ This is for you! The grands have learned about the rock finding game.

Becca - Fabulous on the BP!! Drat those kidney stones.... if that's what it is, can they do anything so they don't try to "escape" and cause all that pain? Had one once... thought I'd been kicked in the back. Luckily it passed quickly. Amazing they can be the size of a grain of sand and feel so HUGE!
Beth - golly girl, you DID have a strange week. Hope all the events are done for a long time - checking account "invasion" like that makes me nervous - hitting that deer could have been nasty - glad the funnel cloud missed you! Hope the fundraiser goes well today.
Here's another "human remains" story. There was an old gal in our county whose husband died. Rather than call the coroner, she left him in the "shed" for a while. Decided he needed to placed elsewhere so tied a rope on him and dragged him down the state highway looking for a better place to park old Earl. Of course, he lost a few parts along the highway before the deputy caught up with her. I don't think she was charged - had been having some mental issues and this made sense to her. I have a hunch she needed his social security so she probably had them to contend with.
On that note, have a wonderful weekend!

Carol in GA. How cool the grandkids getting involved! Its fun to have a rock painting party! Each city does it for the most part. Just look up "( insert city name) Rocks" on Facebook and see. Some artists post hint pics so you know kind of where to take a walk and hunt. Etiquette dictates that you don't take more than your share ( like 4), keep for awhile to enjoy, then rehid
e or paint new ones to travel. Many artists like to know if their rocks have been found, so post the rocks on the site if they are labelled on the back. Some artists have friends from far away, and periodically exchange rocks with each other. Some groups get together and exchange that way. Any excuse to have a potluck with friends in your city right? Lol!
These are pics from a rock group where my son lives in Whidbey island, WA! Amazing!

Heather – DDnL#2 wants to give Will a baby so much ‘it hurts’. Going to a specialist is really, really expensive because they either have to go to Jackson, MS or Baton Rouge, LA every other day to be checked out to see if any eggs have dropped. Her fallopian tubes are almost totally blocked, so having one naturally is going to be something short of a miracle. They would have to go during the months that Will can leave whenever he needs to (which means before the middle of September). I think they have just ‘given up’; but, every month she has a period, she knows she isn’t pregnant. Because they turn 39 in August, they are getting to the age that they are not considered good candidates/ They decided to start looking for a house or property to build on (they want to get on the lake). I laughed and told her last year, all they’d probably have to do is ‘buy a house’ and she’d find she was pregnant, jokingly of course. She is already upset that it seems like she won’t be able to give him a baby. I tell her that is NOT why he married her (and Mallory), he did so because he was ‘head over heels’ in love with both of them.
Childcare here is a ‘minimum’ of about $75 per child per week, maybe more since we no longer have children in daycare. If you keep several age groups you are required to have a certain number or working watching out for them. Insurance, all other sorts of things and you are expected to ‘teach’ them to get them ready to pass a first grade test.
They expect to be paid for the upcoming week; and, you had better NOT get behind or you’ll find yourself being told, ‘you need to find a different daycare’. Most of them stay at compassity.
Beth – I am also meticulous about my checking account and I want to balance to the penny. When I buy checks, it drives me crazy that they don’t tell you when they send them how much they’ll cost, they just take it out; so I put that they have taken out $40.
I’ve wrecked my car twice since last May; both times it was my fault. So when all of a sudden my right passenger stopped sounding like a heavy car door slamming and started sounding like a tin can (without any insulation) I took it to my Agent and he called for an adjuster to come look at it. Then I was told that ‘maybe’ I shouldn’t file a 3rd claim within a year; so I took it back to the body shop and told him they weren’t going to pay as they had suggested that I not file another claim. I did hit a curb when I had my first wreck; but, he told me and the adjuster that they would have noticed that the running board had been bent when I brought it in for those repairs. We were surprised they did not total the car. Over $16K worth of repairs. So he told me that depending on what it took to fix it, he’d help me out on the deductible. So Louis and Trey went to pick it up, Trey drove off in it and Louis said that Mr. Perry never mentioned a price while they were talking about it. Apparently he was able to put a block on it and know the bow in it out. Now the door sounds like it should when I shut it and it isn’t binding when it is closed and opened. Of course, I guess he could always bill us. He’s been in business for 40 years, at least; and has fixed other cars for us and we used to recommend him and 2 other body shops to clients. They said that it looked like someone had hit a curb (run over it). I know I haven’t and Louis says he hasn’t, Trey’s says he hasn’t and the only others who have driven it is DDnL#2 (and I did not like it), and DOGD. DDnL#1 never looks me in the eye when she is talking about anything, including the weather. She did not admit nor deny ever running over anything. I’m sure DOGD would deny it, too. Pisses me off, in a way – but somebody did run over something to make that running board bow up. At least it was NOT the frame!
Margaret – When I get ‘junk’ mail and it has a return address and it has postage prepaid, a good friend of mine told me they don’t get charged for pre-paid postage until that response gets returned. So when I get something I cut it up in pieces and then stick some more trash that doesn’t have my name and/or address on it and then would take a bagful to the P.O. and send it back to them. It was surprising how few things of junk I get in the mail now.
Okie in Central Texas – All it took for me was get within 1lb of hitting 200lbs on a 5’4” frame. I looked quite dowdy at my son’s wedding, especially after I had changed into flats before the pictures were taken. I’ve lost the equivalent of an elephants’ heart and working on down to his ‘penis’ or more. About 60llbs total. It is a lot harder now that I am close to my goal. A LOT HARDER.
Welcome to all the “Newbies”. Congrats to all the NSV as well as those lbs. lost. For anyone else needing {{{{{HUGS}}}}}; here they are. Even those who have taken the wrong side of the hill to slide down, don’t give up; you’ll get there. This is a journey not a ‘diet to race through’. Slow baby steps on losing so you will have a better chance of changing your life-style in the meanwhile.

Oh I found a neat video on the bank that I worked at during the 1980's. Quite an extraordinary bldg! I was a lobby assistant, between my junior and senior year of high school. Then after graduating I worked on the mezzanine overlooking the main floor in the installment loan dept, as an insurance clerk. My father was the Main Branch manager, and I could see his desk from my desk. Comforting, but unsettling because my parents were divorced at the time. We met for coffee most every morning though at a restaurant next door. Great memories!

Happy Saturday, Ladies!
July Goals for the week 7/16 – 7/22
400 calories under budget 5X: XXXXX
Weights/Abdominals 3X: OXX
Planks 3X: OXX
I would have managed day 6 under goal, but, I spaced some sauces on my dinner last night... I remembered today when I had had some sleep. I was only 200 and change under yesterday. Bummer.
But, I have today to get in my last planks and weight training.
so... that's all good.
*NYKaren - I understand the frustration on being one of two... however it's one of those things that you can see from several different perspectives. Maybe they want to give the kids the opportunity to learn from two great candidates instead of one... Maybe they really can't decide and want you guys to get a long-term trial so they can make a decision for next year... who knows? But... how many original candidates were there? Obviously you are in the top of the heap - and that has to feel good. I would try to take the positive view on this - and go for it. The worst thing that can happen is that you find it intolerable to share and you feel the need to quit. Would that be the worst thing in the whole world? I am hoping for the best - that 1) you love teaching the kids... and 2) this other fellow becomes a friend and you guys can team up and work together to give the kids the best possible experience, ever. (Hugs!)
Becca - those rocks are gorgeous. I hope the docs get you all fixed up. I am a big wuss when it comes to pain.
Welcome to the new folks!!
