I am kind of scared of chemicals in diet soda. I heard that the have this new Diet Pepsi & cherry Diet Pepsi that's supposed to have less chemicals. Honestly if coke is preventing you from snacking on other sugary things than go for it.15

It's not new. It's just re-branded Pepsi Max. The "chemicals" (artificial sweeteners?) are there just the same as they were before. It's a different combination of artificial sweeteners from diet, with a different flavor.2 -
I had only ever tried Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi and hated them. But then I tried Coke Zero. And Diet Dr Pepper. And Diet A&W. Friend! BFF!
I turn to them when I feel snacky but not hungry. Probably averages out to 1 a day. Artificial sweeteners are the most studied food additives and there is still nothing definitive showing they do anything except give a minority of people a headache. I buy a 2 liter a week for around a buck or so :drinker:5 -

"Probably" worse than sugar. You don't actually know, but you're willing to commit to a high probability that it's worse than sugar...based on what, exactly?
It's from a lab, not nature. Haven't you learned that anything from a lab is bad???????????
My parents said I came from a lab, but they still love me.
Awwwwww. We love you too5 -

I also noticed that Pepsi Max has Gingo in it? Or Ginseng? I can't recall, but I was like "noooo thanks on extra boosters to the caffeine". Is that the difference to the "Diet" vs "Max"?1 -

What do you all think?
I lost 50lbs while drinking 3-5 cans of diet soda a day, and also improved all my health markers during that time-including normalizing a high glucose number. Since then I've continued to drink diet soda daily, have maintained my weight loss for over 4 years now, and have continued to see excellent blood work panels/health screenings. I drink less diet soda now than what I used to drink, but still have at least one can a day.6 -
I love it, but save it for special occasions or when I'm traveling. I have IBS, so I have to be careful with things that cause bloating. There are some clinical studies about aspartame, but nothing has ever scared me badly enough to get me to stop. Also, have you tried flavored carbonated water, like la Croix? So good, no calories, no sweetener.2
-
I drink La Croix Strawberry Pineapple. They're very refreshing and tasty.0

OK gotcha, thanks. My significant other is unfamiliar with soda, too and accidentally got me Pepsi Max and I was reading the Diet Cherry and Max trying to discern the difference. I definitely don't want extra caffeine. On the "whoops" side, my son was so excited to see soda in the house that he asked to have the Pepsi Max and I told him to go ahead because I didn't like it. He'll probably be on a 3 day bender.1 -

I used to drink that like crazy, but now I seem to have developed an allergy to an ingredient in it.Other sodas are fine. Not sure which one, though it's almost entirely a Dr, Pepper/knockoff specific phenomenon. My tounge and throat go numb, and if I had more than a few sips, my lips will swell. Pecans and walnuts are the only other consistant items that cause that, and even then I need way more than could possibly be in a few sips of soda. So weird. It makes me sad, not to drink it anymore0 -

well diet coke, diet pepsi, regular coke, reg pepsi, diet dr. pepper and reg dr pepper ruined my kidneys. I drank so much of it as a kid and while dieting. I pray every time I get my blood work my kidneys didn't get worse. These products effect everyone differently.6

Tell your husband to consider how many millions of gallons of diet coke that have been consumed over the decades it has been available...If it actually caused any of these issues, it would be well documented and people would not buy it. There would be nothing to debate. Also ask how something with zero calories would make you gain weight.

Worse in what way? Why do you think either one of them is "bad?"

Diet sodas contain many harmful products and should be avoided at all costs.
I run a diet soda disposal service out of my house. PM me and I'll tell you where to send it (Cherry Coke Zero is the worst--for your own good, send me all you have ASAP).22 -
I'm a Diet Pepsi fan myself, but there are no calories. No calories means it's literally impossible to gain weight from drinking them.4

I drink 2 or 3 a day to help reduce migraines. It has almost as much caffeine as a mountain dew kickstart.0 -

Yah. You may think nothing is wrong when a 3rd of all american adults are obese.
LMAO oh yeah nothing is wrong14 -
It's just processed sugar water. Won't kill you, but if other things are off, it will kill you
As I said before.

Because of excess calories.

Apart from the fact that diet sodas have almost no calories.....
That is a really silly statement - for starters, all the obese people may or may not drink diet sodas - so why choose diet soda out of all the other possible connections - why not bread, milk, meat, fruit, vegetables - I mean most americans consume them.
Not sure if you are into history - but King Henry 8th was very obese by end of his life - and he consumed all the things on my list but I dont think he consumed diet soda.
You know, dying as he did in 1547.11 -

Other factors too. But it's a part of the problem.
Diet Coke isn't directly responsible inmo but it is indirectly certainly responsible.
Haha so yah millions of people are fine because millions of people drink it, right? I don't think so.
Thing is. If you're healthy and you drink diet Coke once in a while, it's fine. If youre not healthy, you crave sweeter things and you become addicted to the artificial sweetner.
I have no problem with people drinking diet Cole because we'll... YOLO but this is what happens, ... Yes with a 0 calorie sweetener19 -
I can't drink it because the aspartame gives me headaches, theres been some stuff I didn't think had it in it that I instantly knew to check the label after consuming it because I got a splitting headache after eating or drinking it.1
