Kate UK - So sad. Sending warm thoughts.
I won't be taking photos in St Petersburg as my phone provider wants to charge £5 a day for any activity on the phone in Russia. I'm going to switch it off completely.
We are going on an orientation coach tour tomorrow morning. Then the Hermitage in the evening - a concert, sparkling wine reception and a tour of the building. The following day we have a tour of three cathedrals in the pm. The weather is going to be HOT!
We are currently sailing through the Helsinki archipelago. Loads of beautiful islands. You have to have a pilot to get through it.
I hardly slept last night, after my argument with DH, so I am hoping for a better night tonight. We have been good today. I think he feels a bit guilty for being such a prat. !!! Had a lovely long chat with one of the entertainers we met on the first day. Really sweet.
It's Elvis again tonight, middle period, but I'm not going to go. I will watch the bit before which features our dance teachers for the Swing and Jive. Then I will exit.
Barbie - I've been so enjoying the line dancing. We do 4 dances each half hour session. Today's included Blue Roses and Honky Tonk.
Much love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxx3 -
Felicia I did not spin today. I crept by the room and hoped no one saw me. I did Pro-Fit (8:30 class) and then had a set-up appointment with the Exercise Machine/Strength people. When I got done, the little child who helped me was very happy. The computer said I had burned 200 calories. Maybe. My boyo is 8 and today is his last morning at Fire and Life Safety Camp. I am going to wash my neck and put on smelly stuff so I hopefully don't just smell like sweat through his 'graduation'. He is very hard to drag out of bed so I am not sure the 8:30 class will see much of me.
Well, folks, raining and gloomy here. My area of Virginia is heavily military so the news today is worrisome. I think I will pray about it all--a lot of things turn out to be a tempest in a teapot and it occurred to me on the elliptical that maybe the president could just bluff us through this. I am not a real political person but it strikes me that all I know is life after the WWs. I am the mother of a son though and I think of how I would feel to see him go to war. And I think of the UK people who sent their children away from the city to safety in the country during WWII.
May we all be safe and happy.2 -
Good morning ladies!
Heather, I love your pictures of your trip! keep then coming! You look lovely!
Pip, I think you are radiant in both short and long hair! But like Rye in Texas, I am partial to the long also! I only wish I could look as good in long as you do!
I woke up thinking my vacation week was over and that it was Saturday this morning. I looked at my phone and it is only Friday! This is probably the only time I've ever been excited to have the day be Friday rather than the weekend! Still have 3 days before I go back to work! Whoop Whoop!!!
Today it is gloomy gray outside. I missed the news this morning but I'm guessing fishing won't be in our plans. Not sure what I'm going to do on this last day of my "staycation". Maybe shop for some work clothes. I really, really despise shopping for clothes but I've been putting it off for a few months, so I need to pull that Band-Aid off and just do it.
I have been working on simplifying and minimalizing a bit by getting rid of things I do not use or wear. Well, I went on a big cleaning jag in my closet and threw out almost everything I had hanging in there. Needless to say, it has made dressing for work rather difficult! ha! I plan to only buy blouses or shirts that are timeless and neutral so I can grab and go with anything and have it match. Hoping that will take some of the stress out of workday mornings.
I've been doing some research on natural holistic approaches to wellness and ordered some essential oils yesterday. I might go to the library and look for a book to learn more about those. I need a way to reduce stress and anxiety. I don't see it going away anytime soon between work and my GD who lives with us and has been getting in trouble. So, hoping to find natural ways to deal with it. I'm thinking maybe Tai Chi, Yoga, oils, meditation, nature walks, etc...
Have a great day everyone!

Hello all! Little ones chilling a bit before nap, watching Snow White. That really is a twisted little fairy tale. First one done by Disney and it is dark. I really don't think he initially intended his movies to be for really small kids. When you think of it, fairy tales in general (think Grimm's and other original authors) are dark and kind of twisted. As an adult, I love them. Disney really prettied most of them up.
Kate- So sorry to hear of your friend's son! Breaks my heart! Will keep her in my thoughts and prayers.
Heather-Bummer! No pics of St. Petersburg! Sounds like they have you pretty busy during your stay there, though!
Glad you and DH have kissed and made up! Let him know that there are only a couple of trolls on this site, and I am one of them! Trolls are what the citizens of Michigan's Upper Peninsula call those of us that live in the Lower Pen. Our two peninsulas are connected by the Mackinaw Bridge and we live under the bridge (hence the troll reference). So glad you were able to book a spot on the last cruise!
Tracie- I was having a time earlier this year, when I was becoming very depressed and negative about everything. A few people mentioned a gratitude journal (Barbie was one). It seemed too simplistic and unlikely to work, but I bought a special little journal specifically for listing things I am grateful for. I list five things each day. That is all I write in it. It has helped immensely!
Pip- LOL! Your comment under your pic said "shirt or long hair"??!! Obvious now, from the replies that it was intended as SHORT or long hair; but I spent a good deal of time trying to figure out why you thought the shirt didn't go with long hair! Bahahahaha! I love your hair either way; but I adore seeing women in short hair if it looks good on them. It just exudes confidence and power to me! If I didn't have a hubby who is more attached to my hair than I am (probably bc he is bald) I would be wearing my hair pixie short and with lots of vibrant colors! If you are not sure if you want to go short, try a different medium length style! Or add a flash of color! Maybe a highlight or two of pink to match your curtains! Oh! btw, ABC nightly news had a segment earlier this week "Made in America" and they featured the makers of Airstream trailers. Thought of you immediately!
Felicia- Congrats on the promotion! Getting ahead always feels good! Even if the monetary payoff isn't what you expect, the knowledge that your work is recognized and valued is AWESOME!!
I know I am missing some of you, replywise...thinking of you all! Oh...as far as the slightly suspicious hubbies in regards to our "online friends". Like Lanette, I just tell my hubby about all of the womenly issues we talk about and how it is nice to just have some one listen to you drone on about the little things that make like hard, or better, or more special! (That's all of you ladies) Women's 50+ is the millenial version of penpals!

Heather - those are SOME statues in Helsinki! Those hammering guys have terrific muscles. WOWSER! The other photo of you was nice too! Glad you are having good weather! Neat that you were able to book the cruise for next year.
Kate - sorry to hear about your friend's son. Prayers for her and her family. Hope your cataract surgery goes without a hitch!
Joyce - so glad Charlie and Mr. Mozart are playing well together. Mr. M is really adorable! I can see why you fell for him!
Carol - sorry to hear Pom isn't doing well. Hope the blood tests show something that is easily treated. We once had a pup with borderline Cushings - tho they never did really diagnose her as having that. She did well for many years with TLC. How old is Pom?
Tracie - how nice to have another day of Staycation! Good luck shopping. I just looked at my too-full closet and thought... I had so many "nice" tops I bought for work and never wore, and probably never will. Same with slacks. Tho I'll keep a couple just in case I need to play dress up, I do need to box up a lot of them - other gals who are working can surely use them. One of the churches has a free clothing bank with mainly dress up and work clothes for gals going to interviews, etc.
Hope everyone is having a great day! HUGS!

SW WA State.... where we might see a few sprinkles today!2 -
Dana: Congratulations on the loss! WTG!!!
Felicia: Congratulations on your promotion!!! Marion Berries are delicious. We rarely treat ourselves to Marionberry pie, but there is a restaurant between here and Astoria called the Berry Patch that makes fabulous berry pies, jellies, and mustards including Marionberry mustard. It is our traditional day after Thanksgiving turkey sandwich mustard. Regarding gyms-- Mornings at my gym are a mix of ages, but the majority are 50 plus. Younger people filter in during the summer and when school starts in the fall they're gone again. I think the younger folks are there primarily in the evenings after work year round. The place is busy from morning until closing at night.
Beth: Marionberries are bigger than blackberries and have their own unique flavor. I'd say it is not quite as sweet as a blackberry and has a flavor profile that is all its own and quite delicious. :flowerforyou:
Becca: (((HUGS))) The best news is that your middle son plans to live within easy visiting distance. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a successful apartment hunt. On another topic, I'm sorry to hear that Owain is questioning his place in the Navy, but I suspect a lot of recruits are questioning their decisions to enlist. When I went off to college a zillion years ago many of the freshmen in the dorms left before the end of the first trimester. It seems there is a rite of passage for young people leaving home for the first time whether it is to college or the military. What advice do his older brothers give you? I think letters from them & his dad would mean the most to him. Could letters from a multitude of strangers end up embarrassing him?
Pip: You are gorgeous. I love the photos!
Heather: I love the photos. Keep them coming!
Lanette: My healthcare supplement pays for my gym membership and I am sure they are saving large amounts of money by helping us stay healthy.
Kate: I am so sorry for the loss of your friend's son. She will need all the support she can get now and in the future. I'm sending prayers her way.
Beth: I love your recipe organization ideas. I have recipe cards in recipe boxes, and also a binder for 8.5X11 recipes I've downloaded and printed. Then there are the cookbooks. The most frequently used cookbooks are on a kitchen counter & the others are on a bookcase above my desk in our office. I donated some to the library a while back. A few others may join them.
DJ: I loved the visit with my friend and meeting her husband. We may meet again for lunch on future occasions. The timing is easy since all four of us are retired, and lunches are so much less stressful than dinners.
Heather: I'd skip the Elvis performance, too, if I were in your place. (((HUGS)))
I had a wonderful time meeting my old friend for lunch yesterday. I am so glad we were able to reconnect after all these years. She was my maid of honor at our marriage in 1970 & hadn't seen each other from that day until yesterday. We're planning to meet occasionally for lunch again in the future.
Gripe #1. Dinner out after having eaten lunch out with my friend was a mistake, and both of us spent many hours awake with gastric distress last night. I suspect the dinner meal caused the trouble. We both ordered separate seafood dishes, & the crab salad I ordered seemed like the crab was old and wilted or came out of a can. I won't be ordering seafood there in the foreseeable future. :noway: Even if I hadn't ended up with an upset tummy, the taste and texture of the food was below par for the high price. :grumble:
Gripe #2 & 3: The neighbor who was put in charge of the community landscape keeps using our private water to keep community landscape plants she has put in watered on a daily basis and she doesn't coil the hose up correctly to come off of the holder in an orderly way. It is a hassle for me to get out and use when I need to wash down sidewalks after the dog has made a mistake. I end up having to take most of the hose off the holder to get it to stretch out and reach what needs reaching. The messes are less than fifteen feet from the water spigot but I have to take off nearly 60 feet of tangled hose to use it. There is an in-ground automatic watering system that the President of the HOA has turned off. We pay fees for this and if it is broken, he needs to get it fixed. We shouldn't be spending additional personal dollars to pay for the community landscape plants to be watered & shouldn't be inconvenienced by a tangled hose.

Well Katla, I kind of forewarned him telling him I might have my ladies send him cards. I think more the merrier. Little snippets of happy, positive things!
Becca1 -
Katla: That situation raises my ire, big time. That neighbor would hear from me OR I might just get passive aggressive and disconnect and move my hose into my garage for the time being until neighbor got the message.
Yeah, I'd probably go passive aggressive option, but be ready if neighbor said anything - then I would respond that the tangled hose and extra water bill was not what I signed up for so the neighbor will have to come up with alternative way to meet her responsibilities.
I get so mad when I think someone is taking advantage of me, my husband is the laid back and level headed one usually. So of course my DH would not want me to do that - but he probably would take a stand if the water bill was significant.

Kjlamore lmao!!!!! I used to, highlight, layer. Style my hair all the time. Just don't like the grow out of it and having to redo it. Kirby wouldn't b my final decision for the length of my hair, he isn't the one dealing with it. He allows me to pick how he has his hair because he doesn't care. Right now I'm having him grow out his hair cuz I miss his long hair. I am also not having it colored or highlighted cuz I wanna c how gray he gets.
I live my life with helmet head and sweat which is y short is so easy. I don't like layering or a style cut because I live my life in a helmet. And I'm growing out my bands too which is driving me nuts!2 -
Becca Don't cry. It's just been a few months since you've seen your son.
I haven't spoke to my son in California for 2 and a half years. The last time his girlfriend put him on the phone and it lasted for less than a minute. He's in a biker gang and if he's in jail I'll hear from him. So, no news is good news, you know?
Just be happy knowing you can talk and receive letters from them.

My hair getting long! I just let it go, and do what it needs to do. No nothing done like curling irons, ( in my mind invented by Satan himself!!).
Going to a one year opened anniversary for our local butcher shop! Country music, and free kielbasa! I will look for painted rocks as well. Should be fun.

Pip I like your hair short or long. I think it's the bangs that makes it work either way! Love it! A beautiful face!!
Allie My ex accused me of changing my phone # so I could sell his stuff! Not true. My phone died and way back when ATT made you get a new # when you bought a new phone.
Hang in there. When is the final date or has it been filed yet? When I was divorced in Colorado, I filed in August. I flew up to go to court and when I walked out of there I was a free woman!!
Here it is August 11th and there are 25 pages of posts here! Wowser!!
Have a good day!

hellllloooooooo! I may have found my home! I'll be 55 in less than 2 weeks and not loving at all the crepey skin and wrinkles. speaking of wrinkles, am I the only one who still gets the occasional zit too?!?!??! what the heck, pick one or the other mother nature! Really no other complaints on the menopause front, I actually feel really good. One goal completed by posting here- quit lurking and start participating. another goal to go through my closet and get rid of stuff (just because it fits doesn't mean you should wear it) and to incorporate some HIIT into my YUCKercise routine at least once a week. Thanks for reading my rambling, hope your day is terrific!8

Heather -cityjaneLondon wrote: »DH and I had a "disagreement " this evening about this site. Stayed arguing in the restaurant for ages, but we are still friends. I think he thinks you are all weird Internet trolls. Some of you might be, I guess. Glad we talked it out though.
LOL! Some of us may indeed be weird internet trolls. However, I choose to believe the vast majority of us have come here to present ourselves as we are. I feel being genuine is the only way I can get the support I need from this group. After all, if I present a fake face, the advice will be to the person I present as and won't be as beneficial as it would be if given to the person I am.
I had the same argument/discussion with my DH over a different website many years ago. The group decided to get together in person and DH was quite concerned as to how that would turn out. I took a lot of books in case it turned out that I had no connection to anyone in person. There were 27 of us who met at a retreat site. One (just 1 out of 27) woman turned out to be a nut-bar in person and in retrospect the signs were there in her postings. Everyone else was as genuine in person as they were on-line. It was a wonderful experience and we got together annually for 12 years. The group has disbanded now but I remain in touch with a handful.

Joyce, Indiana -My sister in law had a lap band and she couldn't keep up,with the weight looks because she didn't keep with the supplements. She lost a huge amount of weight but was no longer healthy. She had no energy so she laid on the couch all the time , got large pressure sores on her tail bone because she was pretty much skin and bonejust less than a year after her surgery. She almost died and was in ICU many days. She had to have her lap band removed and of course regained all of her weight loss. She has now lost some weight the right way.
You mention what I consider to be a very important point... She didn't follow her doctor's instructions and keep up with the supplements.
I had gastric bypass surgery and consider it the best decision I could have made for myself. That being said, I give speeches for my surgeon's office on what surgery is like from the patient's perspective. I always say that it isn't for everyone. It is a tool and not a cure. The prospective candidate must be willing to follow the doctor's instructions. At best it won't work. At worst, they can have serious health issues.

Mia, well said and thank you. The "right way" for one person is certainly not the right way for us all. We are all different, we differ in our likes and dislikes, the amount of exercise we are able to do or even willing to do. We all have to find what works for us and then "WORK IT".
Nice to see you
Janetr OKC1 -
Rye in TX: My DH agrees with your idea for the water hose completely. He also wants to put the hose in the garage. My problem with that idea is that I use it daily, more often than once, to be sure that my dog doesn't leave disgusting messes that impact our next door neighbors who are 10 feet away at the nearest point. Our homes are built with a bump out for kitchens and are slightly offset from one another so the space between homes seems adequate for privacy and we don't see directly into each other's windows. We share the same sidewalk, which is halfway between our homes, and the dog sometimes makes a mess on it. I consider that my responsibility & I want easy access to my water hose. :ohwell:
Becca: I'm glad you're feeling a bit better.
nanahana: Welcome!
I'm having a quiet day at home with is no riding lesson. My teacher has to work at her part time job today so she is unavailable. She is a very busy woman. This is a good thing for me today since I don't want to be away from my restroom in case last night's tummy trouble kicks back up. :ohwell:

Every Friday morning I wonder why I took on teaching the beginner line dance class and at 11:30 I am so excited about how much fun we all had.
Tracie I meditate every morning soon after writing in my gratitude journal. Both those practices make a huge difference in my responses to what life hands me.
Allie , your staying with Faith is a winning plan for all of you. I know you are all grateful.
Heather , Line dance and great scenery-'who could ask for anything more?
Today Jake talked to a guy who will come over next week to give us a bid for doing the concrete patio before the end of the month. Much better than the guy who couldn't do it till October.

I'm doing ok, but in somewhat low spirits.
So, I prob won't be adding my pic to all I'm seeing here as I am hating the way I look - but I keep holding on to the fact that I am much healthier and look better than I did in March.
So my current schedule is Swim approx 1 hour/1 mile (I'm quite slow) M, W, F, Sa. Aquafit class on M &F and on W if I feel like it (W instructor not great). Bodyweight strength exercise program on T, Th, and Su. October there is a cancer research charity swim I'm planning on doing - I now feel confident I can complete the swim without making a "kitten" out of myself.
I've been eating well and within calorie allotment since April -- and I'm proud of my progress, but it seems like minimal progress for a lot of work, and that depresses me. At this rate I won't hit my target weight (the weight where my BMI is 'normal') until next summer. 20 pounds took over 5 months to lose and the next 30 seem like I'm digging a hole with a teaspoon instead of a shovel.
It is getting so much harder, I'm hungry ALOT, and I don't dare eat less than the 1100-1200 I am generally having. ( The calculators all say I should be losing almost 1 pound a week 1200 cal/ sedentary but that was not the case) Still, I calculate myself to be in about 5000 calorie deficit a week - so why is my weight loss barely coming in at 1/2 pound a week? WHINE, WHINE, WHINE. Seriously tho, I'm worried because those 20 were so hard to lose- I just don't know if I can keep up this exercise pace (around 14 to 15 hours a week) and minimal eating.
As always, the hot flashes are very bad.
But, today I'm grateful for underwater safe MP3 players. Swimming laps with music is much more fun for me. And I'm grateful my mom insisted in getting all her kids swim lessons. So grateful - I can't imagine not knowing how to swim (really swim). And I'm grateful for cool swim pools to keep the hot flashes at bay. Oh, and swim caps. I'm very grateful to whoever invented the swim cap.

Rye in TX, Do not be discouraged. If you are losing, then you aren't gaining. If you are eating only foods that nourish your body, you are contributing to long term health and fitness. Also consider adding a few nutritious calories on days when you workout more. Your body needs fuel to operate. How great to have an mp3 player that works when you swim. I listen to music, podcasts, and audio books when I walk so I can walk for hours and the time flies by.

Rye - It doesn't matter how slow you are swimming, you are making purposeful movement and that is all that matters. Are you sure you are eating enough with all your exercise? I know that is seems counterintuitive, but sometimes eating more can kick you over the hump. Hang in there and let us know when you need encouragement.4

Afternoon ladies. It is in the upper 70's today. I sure wish these dark cloudy skies would go ahead and rain. But the temp in wonderful.
Ok gardening ladies. One of my new plants has these holes in the leaves. What could it be and do I need to clip off those leaves. When I water everyday I do make sure I water not only the roots but the leaves I case there is some kind of bug on it. I am enjoying the flowers that some animal decided to clip off one of the plants. They are thriving here in the living room. I like it the way plants seem to seek out the sunlight and that's how they grow. We should all seek out the sunlight. Safely but I'm the sun light.
Kate, I can't imagine loosing a child. How old was this child? I know losing my children at there age sometimes happens to people who are 40 but I can't imagine a young child. I do wish that I remembered my sister. She died when she was 20 of cancer. I was 16. I guess I was so much into being a little kid with my younger brothers and then the closeness I had with my sister that is 18 months older that I don't remember much of Donna. Don't we wish we could turn back time.
Heather, you look so photogenic. Have you ever sent us pictures of what your cabin looks like? Who are the naked dudes in your second picture?
Pip, of course your hair is your choice and your lifestyle has a lot to do with it but I lov your short hair. I can't remember who said it but it does excuse confidence. I also like Kirby's short hair. Just so much more sexy!

Awe sorry you aren't in touch with your son! I haven't seen my eldest since last Christmas, and that seems like a long time.. Yep I guess no news is good news in your case. Just because he's in a biker gang doesn't mean he can't still appreciate his Momma though! Even the most scariest bikers still have a soft side! We had a lot of bikers at the nudist resort we attended in California. Once a year we had a car and bike show. The motorcycles in the parade, with nudey people on towels riding! Haha!
