Hot and humid interval run today... Busy at work, company arriving tomorrow and less than 3 weeks until my daughter's wedding. Is it wrong that I am really looking forward to being on vacation the week before the wedding so I can get in some running in the cool Seattle weather without the stress of needing to be back for work??? All the wedding stuff will get done probably more efficiently if I run first, I am sure!

@juliet3455 Haha sometimes when I'm legit climbing the top section, my garmin says like 1:00:50/mi pace. I should change the settings so it says "Move your *kitten*"!4

haven't logged into this for a while. Last week I was out of town for work, but the hotel we stayed in did have a fitness room with a treadmill.
09/5-25 minutes of treadmill
09/6-18 minutes of treadmill, I am unsure of the distance equivalence, but I would estimate it at 4.5Km.
I haven't ran since but really need to get back into a good rhythm.

See to me that is totally amazing. When I am trying to keep a pace this is more what I look like:
Only way I can keep pace is if I follow a pacer. It is just beyond me to pull that off I think. People that can keep pace are very impressive!

Excellent Track Tuesday this week! It was nice and cool to start (though dark... sunrise just keeps getting later and later) and my buddy and I changed out Hanson workout from 3x2 mile to 6x1 mile so we were doing the same workout as the rest of the group. The last time we did this workout ~4 weeks ago, it was almost 20F warmer and the slog back to my house afterward felt so much harder. Today I was running about the same paces but instead of feeling like I was pushing, I was surprised to be running the paces I was (except the last mile when we dropped the hammer in the last 600m and came in 20 seconds faster than any other mile... THAT felt hard!). It was fun to repeat the workout and see how much progress I've made. Plus the improvement with the weather doesn't hurt one bit!
Upcoming Races:
Sept 16: Baker's Revenge 10 mile trail race

I felt tired in this tempo run. Overall it didn't process well cause I struggled to keep the desired pace (although I achieved it). Runalyze page shows me that my training strain is in red scale and I arranged a 10k easy run for today. Don't know what to do. race is coming this Saturday.

Today's notes: Calves felt better today, so I was back at it. Got my 8 miles in in 1:34:30 for a 11:59 average pace, which is right in the normal range. Here's my issue though, according to my Garmin Wrist HRM, My Average HR was only 100, and I wasn't even in z1 for most of the run. This seems totally off, I mean, yeah, I hiked the up half of each mile, just to save my calves, but it seemed like more work than a mostly No Zone run. I doubt that I got in good enough shape that 2 days off wold mean a drastically lower HR on a familiar training run....
Might have to put on my chest HRM tomorrow and redo the workout... Of course, I'll be coming off today's workout so that will skew things.

Praying for everyone, especially in Florida, Texas, and California. For those who can, I hope you're having good runs and good weather. Those who are injured, I hope you're healing well. The weather here SE Virginia has been scary nice! I've been trying to get in longer runs. I did 16 miles on Sat. It's been tough running wise. Every run, I hit a point where mentally I feel like I can't make it. When I finally finish, I'm excited for a minute then I think, wait 26.2 - 16 = 10.2!!! . It really doesn't help when you have some on here talking this 100 mile craziness.
I'm in South East Virginia too! The weather has been pretty awesome!! It sure felt like the heat and humidity would never end there for awhile - I feel like the fall-ish weather came early this year.1 -

This was definitely my worst trail fall so far. I got the usual cuts and scrapes in the past, but never anything which hurt for so long. I'm now at the point where I can walk up stairs, but still have to limp down (or hop on the good leg - or admit defeat and take the elevator ). But it's getting better - yesterday I had to take a break halfway during the 4km bike ride to work, today it hurt less and I managed the entire distance in one go. I might try another short run tonight...
Your list of possible trail races sounds fun, but also really scary
@rusgolden The Turkey Trot would be 8km? Then I don't see any problems doing it four days after your HM, if you don't race it but treat it as a nice recovery jog. I did my first half on a Sunday, ran 6km on Tuesday and 12.6km on Wednesday afterwards, without any issues. Of course everyone recovers is differently - do you need to sign up ahead of time for the Turkey Trot, or could you also decide the day before, when you know how you feel?
@navygrrl Welcome to this group!
@PastorVincent I did this last summer - that involed using my hands to scramble up. Good thinh unlike @juliet3455 my watch doesn't have auto-pause, or it probably would have stopped all the time too
This one however is something you can still walk "normally" (while panting for air and listening to your legs scream, but it's still walking). So my line between walking and crawling is somewhere above 30% slope. Although it also depends on the terrain - slippery mud and gravel call for use of hands and knees sooner than more stable ground
I'm glad that it seems nobody here suffered any misfortunes in the hurricane!

@_nikkiwolf_ has anyone told you recently you are a beast? Cuz you are!

Just checking in to say hi. The struggle to get my head back in the game on the fitness front continues. Between being crazy busy and traveling for work, a typical, overloaded September social calendar and a minor health issue for which my overly cautious doctors have me running around for lots of unnecessary testing, I am struggling just to keep my sanity. So once again, the fitness plan has taken a back seat. I have been squeezing in whatever workouts I can when I can and popping in on MFP just long enough to log them. I hope this insanity ends soon.
I do want to take a minute to send my prayers out to our Florida and South East US friends. I have not been able to keep up with the thread, but as far as I am able to tell, I think most of you have survived relatively unscathed aside from the inconveniences of clean up and being without power. Sending you all my best that you are able to get back to normalcy as quickly and painlessly as possible.
Also wanted to let @HonuNui , @shanaber and all of the other fabulous organizers know that I signed up for the Aim at Melanoma virtual race. Glad to support a wonderful cause. I will be running my Bourbon Chase Ragnar relay that day and will be thinking of you.
At this point it's once again looking doubtful that I will make my September goal (and it started with so much promise!). I will check in when I can and hopefully will be back to being a regular participant on this thread again soon. Good luck to you all on those fall races and crushing those running goals!4 -

Got an text from Skip's XC coach yesterday that was funny. A picture of Skip doing hill repeats on her own, while school was closed for Irma. He wrote... "this is why she is team Captain". He was driving through the neighbor where they do hill repeats and she was there. BTW she invited the whole team of 38 to join her.
Great news @1TheQueenB I’m still waiting to hear from my brother, he was going to his house today
@garygse that 2017 goal is crushed!!! Fantastic
@BettyM1017 glad you are safe and sound! During the tornadoes in 2011 I was without power for 9 days. I kissed my blow dryer the first day it worked ha ha! I had completely forgotten what a hot shower was.
@honunui I love that picture
@shanaber you can’t be happy and efficient if you don’t run. I loved your post on FB about the run, I might need to steal it
@lporter229 sorry to hear you have so much going on. Hang in there

I posted a similar topic in the LDR group, so please excuse forgive the double post. With winter approaching, I am looking to replace my well worn Saucony running shell and would love to hear what you guys all wear. My main requirement is that it must be water resistant and light enough that I can wear it in a cool rain, and also loose enough to wear it over my base layers in the snow. I prefer to have a hood and some reflective accents, but those are not musts. Please tell me what you wear and what you like and dislike about it. Thanks in advance for the help!1

Total 12.55 of 30 miles
Well, we did it! My daughter & I completed the C25K with last evening's run. I have to admit this is the 1st time I've completed the entire 8 weeks after many attempts over several years and did EVERYTHING that was prescribed. Yes, I'm slow (hello, 14:00+ per mile) but the most important points are that I'm taking control of my lifestyle again (13.5 lbs lost since August 1) & am being a positive role model for my children. I'm so happy K. has joined in this journey with me!
So we're going to continue with our gym routines of 2-3 evenings per week of upper body/HIIT type workouts which we both love. I just logged back into Runkeeper yesterday for the first time in 3+ years. I'm taking a look at their "Running 4 Fat Loss" plan which will build up mileage & add in some speed workouts. It looks like it's manageable. We'll also do a trail 5k October 21 & then possibly a trail 5-miler in November. Of course, we're in the flatlands of northeastern NC so it's not like these are trails with lots of ascents & descents ... just beautiful trails through state parks with lots of roots, rocks & a few small hills.
I want to thank everyone here for posting as much as you do. MFP has been wonderful for getting me back in the proper mindset to watch what I eat. This message board group in particular has rekindled my love of running. Thank you!14 -

@MNLittleFinn as ever you know I am game to run horrible, awful, magical things. Also open to meeting up at Fat Dog instead if it works out better since I need that one too for the plan.
@juliet3455 its always the short girls that are dynamos haha! I honestly love the appeal of LSU's ridiculously bad conditions weather wise. The first place woman/second overall this years' race report was amazing- I am fully prepared to stalk their website on reg open like normal people lie in wait for concert tickets
@_nikkiwolf_ Ouch! I have done that too though running mountain pass with men from our trail group- I can pace or pass on ascent but on the flats they are generally faster and my inner competitor is an angsty soul haha!
@skippygirlsmom I love that Skip was out running hills by herself- the girl has grit!
@HonuNui I haven't forgotten about signing up for the virtual, just need to be able to get on the computer to get it registered. Love the new picture of Steve
Today has been rough just on a personal level. I got up late at 4 so I only banged out 20 and then had to get everybody ready for Emma's first full day of classes (kindergarten is 8-3 here). Emma was fine but Kate, our middle girl who is just a year younger, lost her mind when she realized her sister wasn't coming home with her. Tears for Kate and mommy!
So I took Kate and Mia out for lunch a few hours later and as we walked back I noticed the kindergarteners were out for recess. And where is my red sweatered oldest child amongst the swinging, sliding children of the playground? Running up and down the hill on repeat like its her full time job. Its hard that she has to start to move towards doing her own thing but its also pretty amazing how much she's absorbing from what she is seeing and that what I'm doing might actually matter for her...
