@JessicaMcB the coach tells them all the time the importance of hills, she gets it, she doesn't love them but gets it. Saturday she said Mom I bet I passed 10 girls on the hill on the course. That's when they learn just how important hill work is. I love your daughter doing hill repeats at recess. Priceless
He likes to tell the girls "you run like a girl" so Skip and her friend Caroline had shirts made to wear to practice this week.

@JessicaMcB you had to mention Fat Dog, didn't you? That actually is one that works better for me. Fat Dog 120 in 2019? If this year and 2018 go as I'm hoping they will, that would be my next step.1

Got an text from Skip's XC coach yesterday that was funny. A picture of Skip doing hill repeats on her own, while school was closed for Irma. He wrote... "this is why she is team Captain". He was driving through the neighbor where they do hill repeats and she was there. BTW she invited the whole team of 38 to join her.
@skippygirlsmom She's such a champ!! Tell her that all your internet running friends are proud of her for being a bad *kitten*.5 -

Ok, I managed to read through a lot of posts. Way too many to comment on! So sorry to hear about the injuries/awesome job on races/distance PRs/you are all awesomely amazing people! Work has just been kicking my butt lately, hopefully I'll be able to be more active here soon!
Sunday was my first run after vacation. Unfortunately, I had several stupid busy days after I got back, and just wasn't able to get other runs in. However, Sunday was a distance PR for me. First, I met up with one friend and we did 6 miles, then a second friend joined in and we did another 3. Then we lined up for the South Nyack 10 Miler.
I wasn't aiming for any time goals, this was just a way to get some of my long run miles in, but I took 5 minutes off my finish at this race last year, so that's good! This was also the fastest average pace that I've done for these long runs. Usually, I do them as long slow runs, and average around a 10:35-10:40ish pace, but my overall average pace for these 19 miles was 9:59, so I'm quite pleased with that!
I had only had a half a piece of toast w/pb and coffee that morning, and ate two clif shotblok chews (totaling only 2/3rds of a serving size) over the course of the run, so I'm feeling pretty good about where I'm at. I also think the vacation break was much needed, as all the tired, worn out spots, little niggles, and aches seem to be mostly gone.
I did end up with a crazy blood blister between the big toe and the toe next to it, on my left foot, so although I have yet to lose a toenail I feel like I'm getting closer to officially being a runner I also seem to have developed a callous on that same big toe, not on the pad of the toe, but on the space between the pad of the toe and the ball of my foot. It's really kind of annoying, I'm not sure why I've developed it, and I'm not sure what to do about it, lol.
Post-race was an awesome brunch with my running buddies, which I think we all earned!
Monday was a rest day, and I my legs were definitely sore/tired from Sunday's miles. Today is a Daily Double. Did 5.5 miles at lunch at a general aerobic pace, and will be doing another 3.5 after work, before our county running club's monthly meeting.

@26kgtolose - Welcome! Just keep moving your feet.0

Praying for everyone, especially in Florida, Texas, and California. For those who can, I hope you're having good runs and good weather. Those who are injured, I hope you're healing well. The weather here SE Virginia has been scary nice! I've been trying to get in longer runs. I did 16 miles on Sat. It's been tough running wise. Every run, I hit a point where mentally I feel like I can't make it. When I finally finish, I'm excited for a minute then I think, wait 26.2 - 16 = 10.2!!! . It really doesn't help when you have some on here talking this 100 mile craziness.
I'm in South East Virginia too! The weather has been pretty awesome!! It sure felt like the heat and humidity would never end there for awhile - I feel like the fall-ish weather came early this year.
Nice! Yes, there were a few days of hell but I've been in SE Virginia 32 years (almost my whole life). This is the earliest I've ever seen the trees have started to change and I haven't had to run my ac in 2 weeks!! Unheard of! I think we're in for a wet/ cold winter though.

I am in SE North Carolina and the weather has been delightful here as well, that is until today when it was back to the mid 80's and humid. Quite a slap in the face on my run this afternoon. Pace down and Hr up. Oh well, fall is nearly here.

9/6: 2.7 miles
9/10: 7.2 miles

It was pretty warm when I ran my intervals today. I guess we are going to have more hot weather before fall officially gets here. It is supposed to be a high of 96°F tomorrow and 102°F on Thursday. I guess today's 91°F wasn't that bad after all.

I'm slowly figuring out the best way to use my new Garmin, by there are a few things that are still a mystery to me.
Does anyone know what the pie chart (3) means, from the Garmin Connect app activity screen?
(i.e. in this case wind from the North with 3mph?)
@_nikkiwolf_, that could be it. I'll keep an eye on it over the next few days and see if that lines up. Thanks!0 -
@skippygirlsmom That t-shirt is awesome!!!
Today's run was a simple recovery run; nothing special to it.

@skippygirlsmom I know what you mean! I was stressing a bit about what I was going to do about my hair for work tonight. Then I found out that the restaurant doesn't have power either. It looks like I'll be out of work for a few days more. More running! Yay!0

Not quite sure how I found the energy today given my toddler had a tantrum in the middle of the night last night but somehow I PR'd my 1km time--right at the end of my run. So that was awesome. I hit snooze an awful lot this morning so wound up running after work. Once my workplace moves to its new location I fully intend to run home from work a few times a week, weather permitting.
Found the discussion of CDR fascinating. I have family in Grande Cache so maybe I'll volunteer one of these years. I am years of conditioning away from being able to participate myself, especially since I have to travel 4 hours to find a hill to run up (or down!).
Upcoming Races:
9/24 Heartbeat Run 10K
1/1/18 Resolution Run 5K
8/18/18 Edmonton Marathon 10K

Tried my very first hill workout today. WOW, was it intense. I really powered up those hills. Feeling much better now after a really bad weekend of feeling like absolute crap.
Wound up getting a new mile PR too... 9:51. First time under 10 minutes! Guess all that sprinting up hills paid off. I have a feeling I'm going to feel it tomorrow, LOL.
Definitely going to keep doing hill workouts in the future. Absolutely loved it.
Total miles for September so far: 47.4 / whatever11 -
Did 3 miles after work, today. It was a wet, windy, woeful run.5

To all those Athlete's doing Hill repeats-runs

So, question.... I want to sign up for our very important run.... but if I sign up, and am not cleared for that far by then... I will feel like I fluffed out and didn't "earn" it. So I'm thinking it would be more appropriate to simply donate.... but I want to run it, particularly for the cause... so, I am very torn, and the date is approaching quite quickly, ugh.... input? Advice?1

@26kgtolose - welcome! Maybe give the Couch 2 5K (c25k) program a go - lots of people here started with that as a way to get going and have some goals to keep them progressing forward.
@skippygirlsmom - gotta love that Skippygirl out there running hill repeats! She could get me out running hill repeats! Amazing! Love the Mia Hamm quote too!
Also on the FB post - steal away! I am hoping between that and here we can get to $1500 - we are so close... at $1310 now I think, but there are only 2 days left to join the run/walk if you want a medal and shirt!
I am not sure if I will have another opportunity to post it again before the 14th.... so I am going to repeat it one more time here and encourage everyone to join in!And to belabor the point: Last sign-up day to be guaranteed the t-shirt and medal is 9/14:

@hanlonsk You can run/walk if that's what it takes. We all want to run all the things!! Running well sometimes means running less.3 -
Speaking of running less, today was my longest run since my first marathon on August 27. I did 10 km.
I felt like I had loads of energy, and the body did a fairly good job of keeping up. Nowhere near my PB. Not expecting to be in top form a for a few weeks yet.
In running years, I'm still not quite 2 years old.
