Another 6 miles in the books. 4 miles scheduled for tomorrow. My kids are running a "fun run" to raise money for their school. It's a small private Christian school so they do a big fundraising effort once a year. They are running 30-35 laps, at first I was horrified- there's no way my kids will run 7.5 miles! Then I found out a "lap" is 1/16 of a normal lap. Ok, then yeah sure they can do that3 -
9/1 = 5.5 miles
9/2 = Rest Day
9/3 = 16.5 miles (run/walk intervals)
9/4 = 8.5 miles and a Hatha yoga class
9/5 = Camp Gladiator class
9/6 = 6 miles and 45 minutes strength training
9/7 = 10.5 miles
9/8 = 7 miles
9/9 = rest day
9/10 = 13.5 miles (run/walk intervals with running group)
9/11 = 8 easy miles and 30 minutes strength training
9/12 = Vinyasa yoga class & 3 mile walk with the puppy and hubby
9/13 = 8 miles
So very behind on posts from not checking this thread for two days......
My stupid i-phone started glitching out on me half way through my run. It now looks like I turned into superwoman on Strava and ran a 4 min/mile - LOL. Either that, or I managed to teleport myself 1/2 mile instantaneously.
I really need to get a running watch. I want something that will play music (so I can get away with just running with wireless earbuds and a watch). I also need something that has a battery life long enough to last a marathon distance at a turtles pace. I was looking at online reviews and thinking of this one.... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HZPJRGK/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I1RISMBWBPQ193&colid=DGA4R06JZYWU

Thanks for your input @seanevan10 and @midwesterner85. It sounded like junk science to me too. But RW picked it up. Shame shame shame on them. I remembered a few here were well versed in the topic of BG.
I can still eat cheese without killing my pancreas. Hallelujah.1 -

And because it felt so hard, I'm now wondering what in the world I was thinking to sign up for a half marathon. Part of me reminds myself that on Saturday I ran 10 miles. I can do this. But the clouds are low, it's drizzly, and I really could use a day to sit and read.
Sorry for the pity party.
Yep. So with you today! I have 17 days until my 1st ever race and had the worst, slow horrible run this morning. But, You are right! You ran 10 miles! You can do this.
I was super high after running my 10k at 'record speed' and then my Monday run was a real *kitten* show.3 -

As I tell my teenager, good judgement comes from life experience, and life experience comes from poor judgement. I got some excellent life experience today, and now I know how to walk the rest of the way up the hill and then resume running. Pretty sure I still don't know that no good comes of an open box of cookies, though. That's a much harder lesson to learn.

So, we survived the hurricane and although we don't have power, I do have Internet! How, you ask? Well.. we got a generator a couple days ago. Then, we hooked up the router to it and the wifi worked, but no Internet because the provider didn't have power. Today the provider got power!
I will be off school all week. Still no power at school either. It seems like most of my friends are getting their power back but mine street was told "on or before Sunday". I hope it's sooner than that!
We only lost part of our fence and a ton of tree limbs. Today we went to a store when they opened at 9am (they had been closed since Sunday because of no power until then) and we got a window AC unit. So I am sitting on my bed, with AC, for the first time since Sunday and have Internet access. That doesn't mean I can read the last 265 messages.
I did run once since the hurricane and plan to do so tomorrow! And did a long run prior to hurricane where I got dehydrated and nearly passed out. So stupid on my part. I know much better than that!
The neighborhood is full of massive piles of tree limbs and debris. The run yesterday was like running hurdles! I think tomorrow will be the same.
Anyway, I really can't complain .. all my family on the coast made out okay too. They still don't have power either. I told my family that we got a free "tree trimming". Our big oak out front needed trimming so bad and we put it off ... well the storm did it for us!

I'm back from my fabulous vacation in Utah. No running, but plenty of hiking in Zion, Bryce, Capitol Reef, Canyonlands, and Arches.
@PastorVincent - you asked about the Red Rock Canyon Half Marathon. It's on February 24th 2018. Looking at last year's results, it seems to be a fairly small race, but the location is beautiful. I'm sorely tempted even though it's a five hour flight to Vegas for me.
https://www.halfmarathons.net/nevada-red-rock-canyon-marathon-half-marathon-5k/
Hope my Floridian running friends stayed safe. Marco Island and Naples are a couple of my favourite holiday destinations (I'm a bird-watcher when I'm not running) and I was horrified at what I was seeing on the news.2 -
@Orphia Yes, it's getting a lot closer now. There'll be no race report until I get back and can write it up on the computer (not gonna do it on a phone), but if there's a link available to track runners, I'll make sure to post it beforehand.
Today's run was a nice easy run, so nothing special. At the end of it, I happened to bump into the slower runners of the running group that I meet up with, so I slowed down and ran and chatted with them to the end of the run.

Eh called off running today. Felt good, maybe a tiny bit stiff. I'm probably just being overly cautious haha. 13mi cycle instead. 46min. Now watching UTMB race recaps on YouTube. Oh how I wish I could run the alps.
Hope everyone's training is going well!
@kgirlhart Thanks!2 -

It was a hot run today. 95°F was really tough after a few days of cooler weather. I ended up cutting about .5 miles off my run because I just couldn't take the heat. I'm not sure if I will run tomorrow or reschedule to Friday or Saturday. It is supposed to be 102°F tomorrow.

09/13: 10.05 miles- 1.5 mile warm up; 10x800m with 400m recovery; 1 mile cool down
Total: 81.41 miles
Notes:
Last round of Yasso 800s is in the books! 1.5 mile warm up; 10x800 with 400m recovery; 1 mile cool down. Splits for the 800s were 3:54, 3:49, 3:49, 3:50, 3:51, 3:48, 3:44, 3:46, 3:50, 3:46. A little faster than true Yassos should be (I'm targeting a 3:55 marathon), but they felt strong and controlled. This is my fourth time now doing 800m repeats, more each time, and this is probably the easiest they have felt. Counting down the number of hard runs left before the marathon! Hint: it’s not many now
Upcoming Races:
- Chicago Marathon, 10/08/17
- Space Coast Half Marathon, 11/26/17
- Excalibur 10 Miler, 03/18/182 -
K, i signed up for it. We will see if I get to actually run it.
Tried to do a mile with a friend, her little threw a tantrum. So it was a mile traveled, not sure how much running. Was probably for the best. So 2.5/10
I still find it fascinating how 30 minutes of balancey exercises with the pt hurts way worse than heavy squats and deadlifts. 165lb deadlift, no big deal. Stand on one leg on this squishy thing - um you've got to be kidding, right?6 -

@skippygirlsmom@runningmischka I get up at 5:00 am every day, if I’m up at 9:30 Skip is convinced I’ve lost my mind. If someone calls me at 8:30 they apologize and ask if I’m still awake. It’s sad really, but I don’t care.
Yep, I go to bed by 8:00 pm, and am up at 5:40 am these days.
I run early and lots, and sleep early and lots.@Orphia Very exciting to see so many first time marathoners! I'm sure we all can't wait to join the "marathoner" club and compare notes! With my race getting so close now, I'm starting to get really nervous. Not about finishing, I know I can do the distance, but about finishing within my goal time.
@ariceroni My PT friend (and quite a few others) help me realise something at the same stage of the process you're at.
I needed one main goal - finishing. They all said that's all you should ask of yourself for your first.
One stretch goal - which was run all the way.
Bliss goal - Under 5 hours.
Insane goal - 4:30:00
I got the first three, but I'd had time to adjust to the idea of being over the moon about just getting #1.
@ctlaws44 28 October, woo hoo!! You're on THE LIST!! Where?

Regarding the battery life: I only bought it after my marathon, so I didn't test it there. But for the few years before I used the very first version, the TomTom Runner Cardio, and that lived at least five hours with optical HR measuring and GPS tracking.
In case you don't know the DC Rainmaker website yet, there's a test of the watch there.2 -
I had to take almost a week off after my fall last Friday. I ended up falling on the right side of my chest (as well as scraping up my knuckles and knee) and I think I had some deep bruising. It hurt to breathe too deep and running was painful. I was able to walk, so I did a lot of that over the last 6 days.
But, today I was able to get back to it with just some mild discomfort. So, did 27 minutes for 2.5 miles. Hopefully I can get back on track (and stay upright).

This was a tough one. Our first week of three doing 12 mile tempos (1 warm up 10 @ MP minus 10 seconds (ish) and 1 cool down) and it kicked my butt. I was up way too late last night (11 pm) getting dinner and drinks with my roommate for her birthday, and by the grace of God I wasn't hung over this morning. Never have I been so happy for a bartender to go light on the booze in a cocktail!
However the weather wasn't favorable today either. Last week was lovely with mid-50s, low dew point, etc. Today it was 68F with a dew point of 68 thanks to 100% humidity. The fog was so thick in places that my head lamp did almost nothing since the fog was just bouncing the light right back into my eyes. I am not a great humidity runner -- dry heat is OK but humidity is the kind of thing that my lungs just hate and I overheat very easily. 1-2 months ago, I would have thrown in the towel halfway through in these conditions. Today I just slowed my pace and finished the entire workout. So even if the paces weren't right, the mentality was there, so that's the real progress, in my opinion!
Now for a quick pre-work nap since I'll have a late night tonight going to/from Philly for a concert. So glad I'll be sleeping in tomorrow. Thank God for rest days!

Sept 16: Baker's Revenge 10 mile trail race
