Allie I watched the weather channel last night too. Your right best not to watch it right now. Little you can do. Things can be replaced not people. I didn't think you were down in Florida right now. If you are leave. The hurricane is scheduled to hit tomorrow. (Sunday)
Lenora good to see your post. Be safe. Prayers for Florida. If you have to leave too prayers for safe journey.

Pip - have a safe ride! Breakfast looked great = carbs! Kirby is something else! I wish you two many, many long, happy and healthy years together.
Joyce - please post when you can. Love hearing about what's happening in your world. The last housecat we had did the same thing with splashing water all over.... I finally a large plastic bowl of water in the bathtub and dropped a marble in it. She'd spend hours in there "fishing".
Cheri - have a good visit with your son! Hope things are getting put back together in Houston.
Machka - sounds like you had a brisk bike ride. I like hearing about winter weather, lol. In about three months I'll want to hear about your spring weather!
Heather - sending you healing thoughts for that dratted cough. Some folks get coughs so bad they break ribs. Have fun making the birthday cake - can't wait to see a photo of how it turns out!
Allie - hope the FL property survives with minimal damage. I am the type to stew and fret and drive myself nuts imagining the worst - your response to Tom was good - there's nothing you guys can do about it. Has it ever been through hurricanes or bad windstorms before? Also, have you heard from any of your neighbors down there? I keep looking at all the different models of the hurricane's track and it's so confusing - and aggravating. The serenity prayer is appropriate for all of the circumstances in your life right now (and probably for all of us!)
Smells like fall and I saw a flock of Canada geese. Have 2 crockpots of applesauce going for the freezer, and still plenty of apples left over that kept well in the garage and handful left on the tree. Will start dehydrating some tomorrow.
Will close for now-have a good Saturday!

The interstates from Florida through GA are overflowing with evacuees! People/Companies in GA are doing a great job of offering the visitors places to stay. All the state parks are offering free admission and disaster relief plans are in action. We are expecting heavy rain gusts, wind, and possible tornadoes as a result come Monday or Tuesday. All the local news stations are posting updates every few hours. It is difficult to imagine what may come as it is a gorgeous Fall like day here.
Alison ~ Hope your home gets through the storm!

Several years ago when my mom got sick, I left my job and took care of her for many months. Aside from some temp work, I have not been working since then. It is hard - VERY hard to get a job when one can't drive and lives in spread out TX.
The job I heard about (walking/biking distance from where I live) has been posted publicly (yesterday). It is only part time, which probably is a good thing for me since I'm just re-entering the work place - and it is not a stand on my feet all day long job. I applied this morning. I so very much want the job. It has been financially very tight the past few years, and without this job I don't know where we will get the money to continue to contribute to my father's care and meet our own recently drastically increased expenses (home taxes increase of 33+% )
Please send any good thoughts you can spare my way, this job would be such a blessing right now.

Heather: It never occurred to me to order spices from Amazon. You are a far more adventurous cook than I will ever be and it makes sense that many of the spices you need are hard to find in the village.
Pip: Have a good ride. Thank you for riding to help those with MS. The photos are fabulous! Thanks for sharing them.
Michele L from NC: Welcome. I was older than you when I found MFP. Age was not an obstacle to losing weight. Bad habits were the problem for me. I was successful because I was determined and kept on trying. Two keys to success: Log every bite and swallow and move more. You will probably need some tools to measure your portions so that you know how much you are eating. Guessing doesn't work very well, especially in the beginning. :flowerforyou:
Mary in AZ: You'll have to bite the bullet one of these days and climb on the scale but your clothes still fit and you feel good, so there isn't any reason to panic. Log your food, count your calories and get settled before you face the scale. (((HUGS)))
Lanette: I hope you'll be content in your home.
Allie: (((HUGS))) The serenity prayer is powerful. Wait and see is the most difficult task. :flowerforyou: I've also been watching the weather channel but haven't had the TV on yet today.
Rye in TX: I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. The job sounds perfect. :flowerforyou:
DH's High School class is meeting for lunch today at an Olive Garden restaurant. It is the same one where I met my Best friend from Junior High and High School a few weeks ago. I'll order something different this time.

My Instant Pot mini arrived. Boy, it's a lot different than my Nesco. It will take some getting used to. I feel like I'm loading my counter top with gadgets!4

Carol your IP is same size as mine, got it 2 weeks ago when my rice cooker went kaput! There are YouTube clips on setups and things to try first, like the boil water test. I watched them instead of reading the manual Have fun with it, hope you like it.

I am sitting outside on my front porch! I have never done that in the 40 years we have lived here. It is a wonderful late summer breezy 82 degrees. I just met my neighbor who we have thought she was kind of snooty but she isn't. Charlie doesn't like neighbors, he is afraid they will do something that will make him feel obliged to return the favor. This lady is a niece of the lady who owns the house. She has dementia real bad now and in a dementia care center. So the niece was renting a lease running out and the family offered it to her. She does have al little Yorkie that cares for no one but his owner though.
I am sitting in my Cracker Barrel rocking chair which I got for a steel and it is wonderful!
