I am doing a major backup/data removal from my old storage computer this morning. I decided I need to get that stuff off the old thing and onto a thumb drive once and for all as it's due to be retired and I would hate to get the dreaded "blue screen" and lose things forever!
I do backups every 6 months or so ... just in case. And the stuff that I consider particularly important (my bicycle log, my current homework assignments, etc.), gets backed up quite frequently.

I know how you feel. The first time I dyed my hair was back when I was about 18. I didn't leave it in long enough and it turned a clown-like orange/red. The next day, I had a wedding to attend. I wore a hat.
I've been dying my hair ever since, and it's a bit different each time.
A number of years ago, I dressed up as Catwoman for halloween, and dyed my hair black. I used a temporary dye and figured it would wash out in a month or six weeks like all the other temporary dyes I had used before. But it didn't wash out! I had black hair for the longest time!
Right now, I've got a 3-part thing going on. Dark brown underneath, which went really well. Then reddish on top, which turned much too much like that clown-like orange/red at first. But I put in blond streaks on top of the red and it actually looks all right.

Howdy one and all! Supposed to be sunny and rather glorious here today. Our bishop had been in Texas this past week and he told us a bit. THEN he said watch the weather, buy milk/bread, and be ready just in case (twice). I will venture into the attic later this week and figure out how to block the windows there. We lose about 1 of the 4 windows there each big blow.
Getting an early start today-kid is just awake and maybe we will have extra time to do something fun.
I love these sayings you share.

Terry in VT, One of the greatest things about the women on this thread is the wealth of experience. I have gotten so many good ideas to improve my eating, exercise, and other habits just by reading about what they do. I have also found books that have inspired me thanks to their recommendations.
Breakfast finished, meditation next, then dog walking. It will be very warm so I hope to get home early enough to work a bit in the yard before it's too hot. The house painter is coming today to do some prep work. I hope the heat doesn't deter him.

Good morning! Happy Monday (Labor Day for those in the U.S.)! Well, everything happens for a reason. As I was making plans to head up to the hospital to sit with MIL, I got a call from one of my sisters in law. All of the sibs cancelled their Labor Day plans and are taking shifts sitting with MIL. They also asked me to stay home, due to the fact that DH is sick and they don't want me to inadvertently carry any germs to mom. So...I have had the weekend off! It is kind of a mixed bag, because I do feel a little guilty not being there and helping. But I have to admit, even I was a little concerned about me spending so much time with her and possibly giving her what DH has. As I have said before, I hardly ever get sick, but tend to be a carrier of germs due to my day to day interactions with our smallest germ carriers. So...I have rested, cleaned house a bit, got some paperwork done, and rested some more. Thank you all for bearing with my little snit that I got in over this.
Marcelyn- Thank you so much for sharing that wonderful post about how to help! The piles and warehouses of useless items sent is something that has never occurred to me. I know most businesses in our communities are raising funds that are going to Red Cross specifically for Harvey Aid. Glad you and your family are faring well. As with the majority of the country, I am keeping those affected by Harvey in my daily thoughts and prayers.
NYKaren-I probably would have told the "helpful" guy behind me on the treadmills that "This is a light work out day". I do like Lanette's comeback about George Clooney! LOL!
Heather-O.My.Gosh. That sheep outfit! Adorable! Yes, it looks like a short jacket vest on Max, but a long shirt or dress on Bea! Half Naked Edie would fit in with my little group here. They are happiest in less clothes, and will begin to shed layers as soon as they can. I am sure you will help make Edie's Frozen party a HUGE success!
Chris- Love your photos! Looks like you had a really great time! You look wonderful and happy!
Pip- Love your nails! So excited for your race!
I haven't weighed in yet this morning, going to hop on now and peek at the damage.
Ugh! 3 1/2 pound gain! Good thing what comes on can come off. Time to focus and get busy making better choices!

Lol. The first time I used temporary dye on my hair was when I was a student in London in the 1980's. my friend Dana ( a natural redhead who had bleached blond hair) convinced me to dye my hair temporarily purple with him for a party. His hair turned it a brilliant pink and had to grow out. I had kind of a purple/pink hue for quite some time. It was the height of PUNK style around London at the time.
The coolest part was the London Punk crowd now embraced us as their own type of people and now they'd smile and talk to us. We easily got into a number of clubs we otherwise would have joined a long queue with the ordinary folk. Was actually perfect for the college London experience now that I think of it.

Mary: Sending prayers for a safe journey and a happy life in AZ. :flowerforyou:
Allie: Let the good times roll! You deserve a LONG streak of happiness.
Karen in NY: I waver between "Thanks for the tip," and silence as an appropriate response to the guy in the gym. Maybe he was attempting to flirt. :ohwell:
DJ: Thanks for the love & good thoughts. Back atcha!
Joyce: I hope the colonoscopy goes well. I had one, but do a less invasive home poop test instead these days. It is gross, but has the advantage of no surgery and no colonoscopy prep.
Michele: I respect your no artificial sweetener stance and also embrace it. The stevia I use isn't an artificial sweetener. It is natural, and only a little bit sweet. Once in a while I use a teaspoon of sugar in my coffee, usually at restaurants.
Machka: Congrats to Kate and William.
Kelly: I'm sorry that you can't sit with DMIL in the hospital, but I don't see anything to feel guilty about. Perhaps you can visit by phone with her or one of the other visitors and get the message to her that you wish you could be there but the germ risk is too high. (((HUGS)))
Pip: Sending good thoughts for dry roads for you and all the riders. Thank you for your efforts to help end MS.
Happy Labor Day!

Good morning and a happy Labor Day to those of you in the U.S.!
If you've ever enjoyed weekends, lunch breaks, paid holidays, sick leave, vacation, 40-hour work weeks, etc., thank a labor union!
Heather - Thanks for your kind words! I used to take off by myself all the time. Time and money constraints have prevented it in recent years, but I'm committed to reclaiming those trips even if I have to stick a little closer to home.
Joyce - I agree with you - stubbornness and persistence are two sides of the same coin. I suspect being too stubborn to quit has seen any number of marriages through a rough spot or two!
Cheri - Oh, that football game... our Aggies are experts in snatching defeat from the jaws of victory! But at least the first half proved they've got what it takes if they can just keep it together.
DJ - Mmmm, chocolate bran muffins! Sounds delicious! I do muffins a lot when the weather is cooler. Right now I just make lists of recipes to make when I feel like turning on the oven.
Being a freelancer, today is a regular work day for me. So I guess I'd better get a coffee refill then hop to it. Whatever you're doing today, I hope you enjoy it!

Reminder to self, pulling a big RV really uses up fuel! We are on the side of the road or at least I am waiting for John to come back. At least shepherd got out to go potty and drink and eat a little bit! I back on the road again! Thanks for all your good wishes and prayers!
Mary from this side of the road soon to be back on it!5 -
Hi everyone! I have to go back and read pages 1-6 but will have to wait until later. I was so lazy this weekend that I have to get all my stuff done today before returning to work tomorrow! I must have needed the rest...I've been working 50-60 hour weeks and just kind of crashed this weekend. I felt like i needed to listen to my body.
So, today I need to run to the grocery store and prep lunches for the week. Planning to start using my NutriBullet again, so will buy some greens, berries and maybe pears to add with them. I like to pre-package the baggies and freeze them so I can grab one in the morning, mix with some almond milk, and there's my greens for the day. I'm not a vegetable fan, so it's a good way for me to get those healthy greens in.
My DH is up north today scouting hunting land. Bow hunting opens soon in Wisconsin and my husband is an avid deer hunter. I know some of you might not agree with or like that, but we do like venison and it does not go to waste.
Anyway, I love having the house to myself. With him being retired now, and me still working long days, I never seem to have alone time, and I really need quiet time to re-energize. So I plan to enjoy today!
Hope you are all having a nice day.

@fanncy0626 Mary, I didn't realize you were moving to AZ! Leaving Minnesota? My dad (lives near Brainerd, MN) has a winter home in Mesa, AZ where he goes a few months every year.
Safe travels to you and good luck in your new adventure!

Good morning, all. I am at work today -- the students have class, so we have to be here, too. We get an extra day off over July 4 to make up for it.
I don't mind working, but I am really, really tired this morning. I think the wildfire smoke is starting to get to me.
I am really sore today. We had a substitute yoga instructor yesterday afternoon, and she had us doing a lot of one-legged balance poses. Yikes.
The kids start back to school on Wednesday this week. We are all ready for the school routine to start.
I am thinking of signing up for a 5k trail run in the middle of October about 30 minutes from here. Even as I am typing that, I'm shaking my head that it's a crazy idea. I just really want to do it. I know I would end up walking a good bit of it, (I am currently running 10-12 minutes/walking 2 minutes) and I'm okay with that. One of my trail running strategies is to walk the steep climbs and run the rest. It has served me pretty well. Something to think about.

Mary Safe travels!
Felicia So sorry that you are tired. Are you a teacher?
Tracie I understand how you feel about needing alone time. Hubby and I are both retired. He sleeps a lot during the day and then is up really early. So by the time I get up, he is ready to do house tasks and I just want to enjoy my coffee and read the posts here.
Going to do jury duty in the morning. We drove to downtown Marietta this morning so I could figure out where to park. I don't mind doing jury duty but get really anxious about the traffic and parking to get there.
Still doing the exercises to strengthen my the leg muscles and wish I had known about them before. I can still feel my knees with each step but it is not as bad as it was and I can actually walk quite a way and not be in severe pain.

Hi all!
Had a treat this evening. DH cooked dinner. I heard him say the other day that he hadn't cooked in ages. He used to cook a couple of times a week, but with my calorie counting I preferred to know exactly what was going in my food so i did nearly all of it. But he was obviously missing it, so I asked him if he would like to cook tonight as he was doing the food shopping this afternoon. He was shopping because he will be out at cricket for four days taking our only car and needs lunches etc. plus veg and fruit for dinners, breakfasts. I suggested he make one of his best dishes - stir fry - and we had a very nice chicken and veg dish. I needed extra salt on mine, but otherwise it was good. I prepared some shiritaki noodles earlier for me so he only had to put the heat under them for a couple of minutes.
He will be at cricket all this week, so I can have my "funny" food for lunch. On Thursday my friend is coming for lunch and it is all prepared apart from the hummus. I haven't made that because I have completely run out of freezer space. I have two big freezers, but they are bursting with our home grown fruit at the moment. No room to make Edie's birthday cake.
I've been spending far too much time looking for a birthday present from DH to me. He always gets me little surprises to open, but the main present I usually tell him what to get. I was thinking of a sparkly dress/top for next year's cruise, but I can't make my mind up. I might just buy something really cheap and cheerful from Amazon as I won't wear it often, if ever again. Then I decided on real gold earrings as I am sensitive to other metals, but haven't succeeded in locating exactly the right pair on line. I am very fussy. We will be in Hove for my actual birthday, so I think we can trawl around the shops together. Brighton is famous for its jewellery shops in The Lanes, so I think that is the best idea. My ear lobes were quite painful on the cruise when I was wearing earrings all day, every day.

Happy Labor Day to all!
Hugs to those who are struggling.
High fives for those who are celebrating.
Wishing happy grandbaby thoughts for Lenora.
Loved reading the gym comebacks; I'm stealing Lisa's.
We are off to see The Hitman's Bodyguard at 3.
Take care, Meg from Omaha where the weather is nice but the air is hazy from fires.2 -
*sighs* 4 days into September and already 8 pages? Love you guys, but you are killing me, here.
I am alive and well, North Texas is remarkably unscathed in all this, aside from the fact that the Dallas Metro Area is pretty much a "Fuel Free Zone" right now. I was fortunate to be able to fill up my car on Thursday evening, so, I am good for about a week. After that, I am hoping that the situation will be resolved - or that my boss will authorize me to work from home until we can buy more gas. It's a tiny consideration in comparison to the poor folks down south who have to get to work by boat, if there is any work to get to!
I am still fighting the battle of the bloat... the removal of the blood pressure meds has seriously impacted the scale. Where I was at 188 before, even after taking some herbal water pills and trying Dandelion Root - my scale is reading 193. There was a day when it actually topped 200 - so, I am happy enough to see 193, today.
I will just have to keep on chipping away at it. I still think I am better off without the meds - since I never needed them for actual blood pressure, anyway. And hey - being this puffy, I can actually wear my ring on the correct finger, again... lol.
Other than that, the only news to report is, my company has blocked MFP on my work computer. It took them a long time to respond to the whole picture upload incident - but this appears to be it. At least I am still employed.
However, it means that I literally can't keep up with your during my lunch break and such - so, I will be much less present than I have been. I have skimmed thru the end of August... and I will try to keep up going forward - but, I make no promises. The moment I get home, I have a billion things that need doing, and my DH demanding my time, so... you probably wont' see much of me.
But, I will still be logging my food and all like that. I just may not be able to keep up with all that is happening, with you wonderful ladies.
As for goals, I did pretty well on calories under - I think I made that one every week in August. I failed every week on either Strength Training or Planks - mostly on planks. I have decided to modify my goals in September... the calorie thing is a good one - and I need to do that most of all, so I will keep that - and the strength training is really important, also, so I will keep that - but, the planks - I am switching out for Kettlebell, I think. So, on my non-strength training days, I will try for 4 sets of ten kettlebell swings. **I can do them without lying on the ground - which seems to be my main aversion to doing them.
So far, I have done nothing... but, I am off to the gym, now.
September Goals for the week of 9/3 - 9/9
400 calories under budget 5x: OOOOO
Weights/Abdominals 3x: OOO
Kettlebell 3x: OOO
Love you guys! Hugs for Everybody!

So just the exercise stats:
2500 meters swim + 400 meters kick practice. Crawl and breaststroke in reasonable shape considering, now adding backstoke ( much tougher for me) to the mix.
