@hjeppley I had really bad plantar fasciitis. I have a job where I am on my feet all day, and the pharmacist there told me about Alegria shoes. They really helped me out without having to spend tons of money on orthotics. I don't know if that's an option for you, and it doesn't help with running, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

I know this is super late but congrats to @ariceroni for the marathon finish. Nice photos!
I think I've figured out my butt/leg pain - I think it's my piriformis. Self-diagnosed but I found a description that fits perfectly: If you are sitting down in a chair and lift your knee on the affected side straight up toward your same side shoulder and there is no pain doing that, but then if you experience pain while moving that lifted knee towards the opposite shoulder, it is a good chance it is piriformis syndrome.
So, I'm taking a few days off, icing, and doing the recommended stretches. It already feels much better. I'll try a run on Sunday and see how that feels. I'm getting a bit panicked that I'm missing all this training time.

Nice thing about trails, is that they are a bit slower and a lot more fun!
@greenolivetree and @skippygirlsmom @shanaber (I think). Stomach still very unhappy. Thank goodness I have a strange leg pain that'll keep me from running today. Tomorrow being Friday the 13 I wanted to get a good run in, as it's usually a good day for me. Sunday the 15 not so much. ETA I feel like I might need some body glide on my ....3 -

I had a nice little run today. I decided to run at lunch since 81F seemed a lot better than 90F. It is funny a few weeks ago I would have thought 90F was a relief. For the most part my run was really good. Nothing really special, sometimes I just love the way I feel when I run.
There were two things that bothered me though. There is a stretch of road with no houses that runs next to some factories and is just outside the city limits. It's usually kind of nice because it feels like you are out in the country. For some reason people have decided that it is a good place to dump trash. There were 3 sets of twin size mattresses and box springs, a recliner and several cardboard boxes. What makes it even worse is less than 1/2 a mile from this spot is the city dump where you can actually go and dump trash like that. I guess they didn't want to pay to dump the trash. I'm fixing to call the city and report it. I hope they will send someone out to pick it up. The other thing was some girl driving by yelled something at me out of her car. Between the wind, the traffic and my music I couldn't understand what she said. That's the first time anyone ever yelled anything at me when I was running.

Working on getting back in the rhythm. Used my new Garmin Forerunner 235 this morning to plan a workout, but it said it wasn't connected, phone said it was, etc., etc., until I'd almost run out of time for my run. When it works, I love it, but......
First self-planned workout on the watch. When I got to the fast strides in middle, it seemed like time was dragging, and I realized I'd scheduled 5 HOURS of sprinting in the middle of the run. My heart sank, but in the end, it made the 5 minutes seem a lot shorter!

I just started doing similar poses through the Gymnastic Bodies Front Split sequence two weeks ago. It really does seem to help but boy after staying in that kind of pose for 2 min has me wanting to scream. I think I heard someone say it is actually called the "screaming toes" pose!2 -

lol - it was pretty tough at first, like any good yoga pose but it does get easier over time!1 -

Managed a couple more miles tonight. Brought Stella, the terrier of mystery, with me and we did a lot of stopping and starting, with some walking along the way too. She started and ended well, but in the middle there was a lot of sniffing and squirrel chasing that interfered with our forward progress.
Ribs felt a bit better. Still tender and I was ready to stop after about 2 miles to not bounce on them anymore. Slow improvement is better than no improvement. I'm hoping to do a little longer run on Saturday if I can - so I can accomplish the AIM at Melanoma 5k. But if I need to walk part I will.

10/3 - 5 miles treadmill before weight lifting
10/4 - 8.15 miles
10/5 - 5 miles treadmill. Worst workout ever with serious BG problems. So bad that I skipped weight lifting afterwards.
10/6 - Rest
10/7 - 1.4 miles. Was supposed to be 12 miles, but it was raining and I had some GI issues. Ugh.
10/8 - 4.72 miles. Was harder than it should have been.
10/9 - Rest
10/10 - Figured out why I've been having GI/stomach issues/pain and difficulty breathing. Gall stones. Skipped run to try to flush gall stones.
10/11 - 5.04 miles - was supposed to be race pace. Some gall stones were flushed, but still having abdomen issues. Still, this went pretty well and was almost to race pace. Going to do the home flush again on 10/13 to get rid of any remaining gall stones.
10/12 - 5.53 miles. Went well, but will still do another gall bladder flush.

@midwesterner85 Is the gallbladder flush a homeopathic remedy or some medical procedure. I had my GB out about 10 years ago. No stones, darn thing just quit working. Apparently it's just the way it is on my father's side. So now I have IBS, or maybe I always have and just didn't know it. I hope your GI troubles line out soon.
If you have to have it removed, it's not a horrible experience for too long. Rolling over was the worst. Air gets trapped and omg hurts so bad moving around. But I had to keep rolling over often because I thought my organs were gonna dry out. I mean, they might right? Lol! I had mine out on a Monday and by Friday was push mowing, shopping and cooking with minimal discomfort. Darvoset or something of the like helped too.

The acidic substance softens and breaks down stones while the lubricating substance helps stones move more freely (obviously) to get through the bile duct. Several years ago, it was lime juice and olive oil. I remembered it was alternating every 15 min., but couldn't recall the quantity.
This time, I did lemon juice because that is what it was supposed to be (I used lime juice last time because that is what I had on hand and needed to use it up anyway) and extra virgin olive oil (which is what it was supposed to be last time, but I only used virgin olive oil last time... again had to use it up). Since I couldn't recall the quantity and couldn't find it again online, I just went with 1/4 cup each time. It's every 15 min. for 4 hours.
Some details that are a bit unsavory:When I did this years ago, I had asked my dr. first... he didn't know if it would work, but he didn't think it would hurt me. That was good enough to be worth trying because I was having flare-ups about every week at that point. Afterwards, I had none until the past week. The last time, I only got barely more than an hour into it and stopped because drinking olive oil was too disgusting (I vomited). Yet it still worked well for sludge.
For this round, I started Tues. at 4:30pm and finished at 8:15pm. At about 3:45am Wed., I had the first BM with lots of visible gallstones in it. Throughout the rest of the day, there were several more. I'm still going to take another round tomorrow night and not run on Sat. Obviously I suggest staying close to the toilet for that time and the next day. I also observed quite a bit of oil in the toilet.
I really want to avoid having my gallbladder removed. I eat an extremely low carb diet (almost no plants, except coffee, tea, and some sauces and seasonings); which is great for my BG control as a type 1 diabetic. However, having no gall bladder would make that diet somewhat more difficult.0 -

Real goals: Get healthy enough to run 5 days a week. Avoid re-injury. Build base.
Today's notes – Went to club practice this evening. Most people were doing very light speed workouts, because they'll be running XC in Boston Sunday. I thought about it, and decided even one 400 at T pace was more than I wanted to do because this is the first time I've run 3 consecutive days since coming back from injury. So I got in my 2 mile warmup, then ran 4 junk miles around Genesee Valley Park. I got some distance on roads and paths, and some on the grass on a marked cross country loop; couldn't do repeats of the loop because several organized kickball games were either adjacent to or overlapping the route. I manage not to disrupt any games on my pass around the loop, then avoided the parts of the course that were close to games.
Came home, and the ankle didn't feel like it needed icing. Iced it anyway; it might not help, but the only down side is 10 minutes of boredom sitting around with my foot in a bucket of ice water. I can deal with that.

I don't find meat to be a problem, unless it's fried. Carbs, sugar, dairy and soy get me. I can eat steak all day and have the most digested bm's. Vegetables are hard for me to digest. Fruits are pick and choose sparingly. Most the time it's " oh look lunch" before I flush. I think I was a T-Rex in a past life. I don't like chicken tho.

Oh, this treadmill is going to ruin me... I'm having too much fun with it.
I did a nice, easy 90-minute run on the mill tonight. I was listening to the Cubs/Nationals game and just kind of got carried away. That happens when I listen to or watch sports while I run. And I was just just feeling really good, so I just kept going. I can totally see myself doing a double digit mile run on this thing.
No knee issues this time around. I wore my newer shoes this time, whereas last time I wore my older pair and my knees got sore. Sooooo... I guess it's time to retire the older pair.

10/12 - 4.01 miles - went for a bike ride also for about a half hour and then for a faster run - at least for me - trying to get back down in the 9 minute mile range - hit 9 and 1/2 minute today

I grabbed the handles on the treadmill every now and then to check my heart rate (I don't have a heart rate monitor) and I only got up to the upper 180's instead of the 190's. (Have I mentioned I'm horribly out of shape?)

Managed to stop my Garmin midrun tonight for about a quarter mile before realizing it. I was able to start it again without having to restart the whole run but the Garmin didn’t count that quarter mile. Continued on as per usual on my route. I have run this route dozens of times and know the distance to within 5/100 of a mile, but I just couldn’t not have the Garmin show me my regular distance, so I had to add a half mile loop to make sure.
Kinda sad to be such a slave to the Garmin.

@RespectTheKitty Glad to hear that the dreadmill is working out for you - and that you recognized that your shoes were the cause of the discomfort. Watch out for those long games as you might accidentally run a HM or a full Marathon.3
