I am doing three runs in 24 hrs as prep for this upcoming weekend. I probably should have thought of this sooner, but I didn't. Anyway, just did a nice 4.2 miles on my lunch hour. It was a really nice fall run. Yesterday after work i went to do my run and my garmin was dead. Not sure why because it had a full charge when I put it in my bag in the morning. It was nice to run without it, but I had to do it on the bike path because I am very sure of the distances there.8 -
@PastorVincent the mud here in AZ doesn't smell. Nothing rots out here and the dirt is very course/sandy so it makes for a very clean mud.2

Gone for four days and we're on page 24?! You people are rock stars
Got 20 min of run/walk/run planned for after work today! Its chilly in OKC (esp. for a Tampa native) so I'm quite looking forward to it.6 -
1---5.00
3---3.44
6---3.46
7---6.23
10---2.54 I forgot the route I needed to get 2.5. I'm sure I'm going to be all Alzheimer's at some point. My daughter tells me stuff I said and i have no remote recollection of said topic. She smokes pot, so it maybe is her (adult kids these days). Another runner was out (Ashton) and I was trying to figure out if that was her and why she was in capris and a jacket! Lol! I was ready to pull my shirt off after a mile. So I forgot where I was goin'.

I've been MIA so far this month, mainly due to race nerves and a few really busy days at the beginning of the month, but things have quieted down and I am back! Thank you @katharmonic @amymoreorless @Runningmischka @cburke8909 @PastorVincent @garygse @Elise4270 @WhatMeRunning and @lporter229 (and anyone else I may have missed!) for the good wishes and kind thoughts! Abbreviated race recap (and a few pictures) are below; I posted a much more thorough recap in the challenge group here, if anyone is interested!
First of all, I did it!!! This was my third shot at Chicago (bad lottery luck in 2015, stress fracture in 2016) and I'm so proud to have finally ran a marathon!
Obligatory medal photo:
Overall the race went really well! My goal was to finish in less than 4 hours, with a "stretch" goal of a 3:55 finish. I'm happy to report that I beat both goals, with an official finish time of 3:54:35! Like a typical newbie, I started out way too fast (~8:20 pace) but managed to feel great all the way until mile 18!
Obligatory race photo:
Miles 19-25 were pretty awful, my legs kept cramping and didn't want to work well, plus I developed a giant blister on the ball of my foot and I could feel the fluid inside squishing around with every step. At this point I just completely dissociated from the pain and started walking through the water portions of all the aid stations. At the mile 25 marker, I snapped out of it and realized I could finish under 3:55 if I picked up the pace a bit, and I was even able to sprint a bit during the last 200 meters! Overall I had an awesome time and can't wait to (hopefully) run it again next year!
Obligatory blister photo:
This is how the blister looks now. I popped it already because part of the blister actually extends up between my toes to the top of my foot, and with each step the fluid would gush up into that section creating a really really uncomfortable sensation.
I did some gentle walking yesterday to get my legs moving a bit, and surprisingly they didn't feel bad at all! A little bit sore, but not achy or cramping like I expected. I ran a nice gentle two miles this morning (9:33 pace), and aside from the blister everything felt great! I'm planning to take things really easy this week while I recover from the race, then it is back to the grind for a few weeks to train for my upcoming half marathon. At least I know the distance shouldn't be an issue!

2.7 on elliptical this am. Easy work as I am in a taper for marathon this Saturday. Weather is not looking great. Should avoid the rain but 70 degrees and 70% humidity is not what I was hoping for in October. Could there please be an unscheduled cold front? Or perhaps a good drop in humidity? at least it won't be 90.5

@ariceroni Congrats on your marathon and on meeting both of your goals! Love the race pictures!0
-
YAY! @ariceroni ! I don't desire the marathon distance, but it looks like so much fun (and @kristinegift even though you didn't run it) I may be up to it some year!0
-
@ariceroni Congrats and super pictures. I'm off to read your longer report. BTW I had to giggle at the guy behind you in the medal photo, he looks to be in a bit of pain.1

Confession time: I totally played hooky from work today. A cold front blew in overnight and dropped the high from 91 to 70. It was sunny, breezy and absolutely perfect. I just could not resist running away from home (and work) with my puppy to get lost in the woods.
73/175 (September goal miles)

@ariceroni CONGRATS!! So awesome to meet you goals. I hope the blister heals soon.0
-
@amymoreorless I like playing hooky in order to get lost! It was a nice drop in temps today. Wish it would stay that way around here.2
-
@ariceroni yowzer! That's one heck of a blister. Kudos to you for keeping going. And you look so happy too. I always look really miserable in my race pics. My profile pic is the one exception. The photographer told me a really crap joke as I ran past and I couldn't help but laugh.0
