RE: Dogs off leash. Phoenix law is dogs not in a fenced yard need to be on-leash but people with ankle biters seem to think this doesn't apply to them. I was chased and actually had my ankles bit by one and the owners were laughing like OH, it's not that bad! I mean it wasn't but come on! Then I was running and these people that live near a green space had their dog off leash in the green area and she tells me I need to stop running because her dog will attack. I said *kitten* that and kept running. Ok, I thought that but I did yell out we have leash laws as I ran by. I saw her in a field a few days later and she made sure to leash her dog. She could barely control it on a leash. She should not have been out with them. I know I can't control both my dogs at once, so I walk them one at a time. And they are good dogs, just big (and black and look scary). A few weeks ago I was running through a different green area and this woman was walking a dog bigger than her. I cleared my throat, called out on your left and apparently, she did not hear me coming (she had two earbuds in) and could barely control her dog as I plodded along. People need to be more aware of the surroundings. I have made noise and call out, yet still, everyone is surprised someone else might be out!
This past week got busy and I got one workout in. I am off from my day job this week so I've plotted out my workout schedule and business schedule and WILL get everything done. LOL2 -
32 miles.
Bossymom15
12/2 - 4.5 miles
12/6 - 1.3 mile - ran till it was too dark. Our roads aren't so great, don't want to fall on my face. Looking forward to Saturday. the weather should be perfect.
12/9 - the weather WAS perfect! I went out to run another 4 miles and ran 6.5. (It was downhill the last two miles, so after I got up that hill..... so 12.3Miles this week.
12/14 1.5 miles
12/16 4.5 miles.... 18.30 so far...
12/23 5 miles.... it was a little over 30 degrees, not much wind so a good run. But now...it's 10 degrees outside and dark when I get home, and highs in the 20's for the next week. I'd still rather run in 30 than 90 degrees though. The heat just kicks my butt.
23.30 so far this month.

"I'm not dead yet. "
But weak as a kitten. Now I'm dreading the task of starting all over again. Anybody have any good suggestions for resuming their running after being very ill? Not sure I'll be up for it until January something.3 -
@WandaVaughn - I haven't been sick in a long time but have had to come back after surgery and injury and I think it would be similar... I would say most important is to start off slow and easy, don't try to jump right back to where you were before you got sick. Chances are you will be back there though pretty quickly. Also important - get LOTS of rest and recovery. You don't want your body to get run down and get sick all over again.3

The biggest lesson for me, was to find the comfortable distance and pace, and not trying to pick up where I left off.
I've come to really enjoy the slower shorter runs. Er, any run!2 -

It was cold and drizzly and I'm sure anyone who knows me personally would think I am nuts, but I went for a short run this morning. I got a Garmin FR35 for Christmas and I really wanted to try it out. The run was surprisingly invigorating. So far I am liking the garmin. There is a bit of a learning curve going from fitbit to Garmin. I hope I have everything set up correctly. My run synched over to Strava without any apparent issues. I only need 1.8 miles to hit my goal so I am almost there.

@kgirlhart
I started with a Garmin because they are waterproof and I am an accident waiting to happen. So I can't compare it with a Fitbit, but I would get another one in a heartbeat.

12/26 10.1 miles
As of today: 2085.23 miles for 2017
December Goal: 226.06/200
Temperature not too bad, hovering around freezing. I know my January goals will change a bit since the temperatures will go even lower soon. January 1st is predicted to be 3*F/-16*C....yeah, no, I just don't think I am up for that. Anyway, I have been thinking about my monthly goal and looked at last years mileage.....I only had 48 miles for January 2017. Hopefully, I will get a few more good long runs in before it is too horrid out there.1 -

@WandaVaughn - Lately I've done poorly coming back too fast. I think the best I did was after healing up from stress fractures in my left metatarsals. I did one week of 3 days run 2 minutes, walk 2 minutes. Then a week with 3 days run 3 minutes, walk 1 minute. Then a week with 3 days of an easy 3 miles each. Then a day with 4 days of an easy 3 miles. Then I let myself run 4 miles a day, and built gradually from there. It felt like *forever* building up to distances that were like what I had been running before; but I got there, ran my second half marathon a couple months after I started the process, and ran my first full marathon 7 months after that.
I think the key is paying attention to what you can do *right now* instead of focusing on what you remember being able to do. Somehow, I find that psychologically easier when I've been totally derailed from everything than when I've "only" been too injured to run, and not so injured that it affected walking.5 -
1---swim
2---5.69
9---5.0
11---2.33
17---1.0
18---3.25
26---3.01 uh, 7 days no running? New niggle. My right knee has complained just a bit before I left out. It did not get better as I ran. I'd hoped for 5 miles and was smart enough to stop at 3. Think I'll email the PT and see if we can nip this in the bud. I'm sure it's the other IT band. Grrrr! Maybe the pool will open soon and I can start complaining about my bum shoulder.

@WandaVaughn I think @MobyCarp’s suggestion for coming back a good thing. However, as you are coming back from being ILL and not injured from running it’s possible you may be able to get back up to speed sotospeak quicker. I’d still stick to that basic plan though. Or do c25k swapping weeks for days.
You’ll know what works for you and how strong you’re feeling. Key will be rest when you need to. Just REST dammit!!!4 -
Managed a Christmas Day run yesterday morning, doing a run around the town I spent my teenage years, running past pubs I used to go in. Most no longer existed, and clearly at 8am the favourite haunt of mine wasn’t going to be open!!!
Slightly reluctantly I also took the dog out later in the day. Lost a glove in the process (one of my new running gloves as well!) but we had a nice walk (mostly off-leash but he’s well-behaved)
Felt I deserved my Christmas Day meal and presents - a load more running socks and a long-sleeved running too were the running related items. Need it to turn cold again to be able to use the top!5 -
So, I keep forgetting to post, but if anyone would like to add me to a friend's list, I would greatly appreciate it. I could use some folks who run, or even just have a pulse is good to.3

Got up at 5 am and left the family behind in the hotel room. First went down to the gym to crank out my PT stretches and strength and my 2 week strength program for the day. Then put on (a lot of) clothes (18 degrees F) and went out to run 4 mi on the dark bike path near the hotel in Wheeling. Then off to sit in the car all day. Glad I got it out of the way early! We found an awesome Indian buffet for lunch on our way through Harrisburg, PA, so that made me happy! Only about 7 miles to go to my stretch goal for the month!

Merry Christmas to me- made my December goal and resultingly exceeded my annual goal of 5,000km or 3,125mi despite this time last year having just had emergency surgery (with January mileage that reflected it ).
I especially appreciate it being -38 while I was out there banging out the tail end of my annual goal. The hard is what makes it great and whatnot
And yes despite constantly wiping the freeze in my lashes away so I didn't wreck myself getting blinded they kept coming back. Apparently it was cold or something

Today's notes: Of course I have to follow @JessicaMcB Got in my assigned 1:15:00 trail run today for a total of 6.66 miles. My temp was only -11, so nothing super, but still cold enough. I'm now 14 miles away from meeting my justdecided on goal of 1800 miles for the year. Not a huge goal, but one I'm pleased with and something like 500 miles more than I ran last year, so there is that.
Hope everyone had a Runderful day.

Did 4 miles on the treadmill yesterday after the kids opened their presents. Christmas was hard for me this year with my husband being deployed. I was pretty bummed Christmas Eve. It’s a real bummer living so far from family and the holidays without my husband around makes it feel even worse. I was really hating on the military Saturday- haha.
We made it through Christmas and today I dragged the kids out of the house and we went to the gym. I did 4x 1mi at race pace with 2 minute rests. I managed to run 8 minute miles!
Then we drove all around town running errands. Back to real life!

Hey everyone! Hope you all had a great Christmas with family & friends! Just seeing if the January Challenge has been put up yet?

Normally end of the month. Maybe check over the weekend for the January challenge0 -
12/26: 5k and my little running person for December reached her flower!
There's a nighttime fun run through Shelby Farms on the 30th, through the Christmas lights, and I'm considering going. On the one hand it sounds really fun and on the other hand it's supposed to be about 20 degrees. So far, every time we've run it's been in the daylight and above freezing. Since my husband's asthma hates the cold, I'm not sure I want to try our first sub-freezing run during a race. Also we would need to buy a second headlamp.
I got a nice UA water bottle for Christmas - I like this one which is solid metal because it's both light and really solid. I feel like I could beat off an attacker with it if I had to! Also, it's a groovy shade of green and makes me feel like my water is a magic elixir.5 -
I guess I am not doing this right lol .Everyone seems to put a lot of info o n here. I will try to put all my Dec runs up .I have to go and get them in my app.0
-
@ralphone There's no wrong way. It's whatever you want.
I started off my week with Back & Chest. I had to drop weight a few times but I felt like a badass after. Now I'm pacing to get a few more steps in before I get back to working on my biz. Been sitting most of the afternoon and gonna sit some more while making some art. Or attempting to
Trying to get ahead of the game and start 2018 with a bang! *kitten* anxiety lol1 -

Next Races (more as I find them):
02/10/18 - Valentine's Day 15k

05/06/18 - Pittsburgh Marathon - aiming for sub four hours.

Non-running check in. Next run probably will be the 31st or 1st.0 -
I have 7 years worth of data in RunKeeper, and looks like 2017 was a really strong year for me in running...
Realy, going by that, easily my best running year ever.
I am at 1950 miles for the year. Shame I am on the road currently otherwise I could have gotten 50 miles in this week... ah well, that will give me a 2000 mile target for next year I guess9 -
Today my daughter and I went on the local trail (it's just a paved trail, not a trail like some of you talk about).
Anyway, she set out for 10 and I set out for 5. I ended up doing 6 and she did her 10.
We both commented how perfect the weather was for running. It was 48 when we started.
Looks like I hit my goal today. Although I don't know why I had a set number with this streak.
I'm LOVING this streak this year!
Need to get back to lifting tomorrow!
